So, when it's cold and or rainy I sometimes get the craving for a steak and cheese. I grew up in Boston and there were basically pizza places on every corner. The places down in Texas just aren't the same, and there wasn't a good place to get one near me so I went to Yelp. Freddy's popped up and it was 10 mins away so I said "why not"? The place is pretty busy and it looks like a very popular place for lunch. It's kinda dark and noisy. Perfect for eating solo. I got the Texas Cheesesteak with the seasoned fresh cut fries. The sandwich was great, nice soft and crispy sub roll, good ratio of veggies and cheese to meat (I hate when they murder you with cheese). The bread didn't get too soggy, just on the edge but it held. The fries were also very good if not a little less crispy than I like but great flavor. This was our 2nd attempt to eat here. We walked in & no other patrons were there... except us. They were all busy and would not wait on us and looked at us as if we had 3 heads. We asked if they still serving breakfast and the lady walked away saying... "let me go ask her". You could tell they did not want to wait on us, so we left. Nice cozy little place which might be a bit hard to spot from the main road. It pretty much caters to the breakfast and lunch for the offices near by and closes by afternoon. The interiors are nice and the staff was courteous. Once it gets crowded, might be a bit hard to find a table and also hear your name being called. In terms of food, the choice for vegetarians is very limited. And there was nothing delightful about the veggie delite I tried. In the end, i just forced it down my throat. New job in the area has me checking out local venues and Im really glad I swung into Freddy's tiday for lunch. Nice open table area, not too jam packed like some places do. Clean, nice looking, open to the grill so you can see work area and it looks well kept. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Menu/prices were all up on a big chalkboard and on menues... decent prices for handcrafted grill/diner style food. They do breakfast and lunches. I snagged a chicken strips and fries basket, with a fountain drink... all told about $12ish. Food only took a few minutes to make, hand cut fries and seemingly hand dipped tenders (maybe made to order?).... barely had time to answer a few email while I waited. Food tasted great, tenders were crispy ouside, juicy inside and the fries had just the right amount of salt. Came with choice of dipping sauces including gravy (which I got... needed more pepper, but that's personal preference easily fixed at my table). All told, great experience, will definitely be adding to my building list of local "regular" haunts. read more

Breakfast tacos done right! Yes Jesus... Perfectly cooked tortilla goes a looooong way in the prep of a grand bfast taco! And Freddy's is on point. I hate to review a restaurant on one thing but when it's done so divinely, how could I not. This place would hands down win for the lousiest curb appeal but try it anyway. Def my go to spot heading into the office, there's some good food behind those doors. UPDATE: have now tried the cheesesteak, burgers, salmon burgers, pastrami...all very yummy! Everything is made to order in an open kitchen and the staff is very friendly... I'd CAUTION against two items I've tried though...the fish & chips (I don't care too much for the batter and frankly it's a mystery kind of fish you don't see often) and the chicken goat cheese wrap. I've passed by this place plenty of times and I've always thought that it was a weird place to have a cafe. Despite their location, their food and variety are both great. My boyfriend and I decided today that we wanted wraps (I've been nagging that I wanted to eat healthier). So Freddy's was the first to pop up on Yelp and I am definitely not disappointed in our decision to try it out. Their menu has such a wide range that it was hard to choose. "Wraps, Hanna, you're here for wraps!" We both got the Greek Wrap, with fruits and fries as our sides. The wrap was huge, filled with veggies, grilled chicken, and other goodies. Fruit serving is also big and sweet as well. Fries were alright, nothin too special. We'll be back again to try the Grilled Chicken with Goat Cheese Wrap that I was eyeing. Or maybe I'll have a cheat day and try something off their "From the Fryer" section. A good first experience and I hope they get more customers! read more

The counter service is a little bristly for a mom and pop joint but the rest of the experience was top notch especially for a lunch joint. We had the tuna melt, fried mushrooms, onion rings, and the beer battered fried chicken sandwich with fresh cut fries. I think the prices are fair for the quality and portions of food. You can make your meal a combo with a side and a drink for just $4. All the fried stuff definitely hit heavy but that was pretty expected. The fries were seasoned well with salt but the chicken sandwich could have used a little pizzazz; there's a tray of condiments in the dining room for that purpose. The chicken breast on the sandwich was nice and thin but still juicy and battered well. Everything we saw people walk by our table with looked great, definitely trying a salad next time I go! Place was pretty busy when we got there but it was emptied quite fast by the time we sat down. The service was alright. Not bad, not great. Cashier wasn't too friendly though nor was, I believe to be a manager in regards to a Groupon I had purchased. It said I could buy up to 4, so I did. Manager said they'd have to ring each order up one by one to get the discount but it was like "cheating the system" by doing that. Well we were just down visiting and wouldn't be able to use them any other time, so I said "I guess go ahead and do just that." She walked off abruptly and seemed a bit annoyed. Nonetheless, we ordered and all of us got our food under 15 minutes. Burgers were pretty good along with the chicken strips but all of us left most of our fries, they were just too greasy. If we're ever in Houston again, we'll likely go eat somewhere else due to our first impression. read more

I could hear her servicing in the background. Didn't apologize for the hold. Told me it'll be 30 minutes for food pickup. Food was lukewarm and fries not crunchy and stale by the time we picked it up. My son couldn't finish his burger and fries because of the taste. They are also charging $1 more for burger due to beef shortage. We had great experience the first time for food pickup but it was not great this time around. I hate it when restaurants are inconsistent with service and quality because that'll be the cause of losing customers and businesses will eventually close. A mon I love their philly cheesteak and curly fries. I cannot say enough about the food and friendly service. read more

Day two of my Houston trip started off with a bang. This little place was located nearby the training center I was in and got good reviews, so I figured I'd give it a shot. They have a pretty big menu but everything seems to be made to order and came out rather quickly for being busy during the lunch hour. The staff was nice and friendly. I got the grilled chicken and goat cheese wrap with a side of sweet potato fries. The fries were thin and crisp, and were probably some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Kudos to Freddy's. The wrap was delicious. The only small thing I will add as a "complaint" is that there was too much lettuce and not enough chicken in the wrap. But that doesn't warrant one less star. It seems like the burgers were a hit for others, so next time I'd probably try that. Overall a delicious lunch and worth a shot if you live or work nearby. read more

The food was great but halfway through breakfast a guy with an untrained Pitbull came inside, ordered food at the counter, and sat down next to us. Didn't seem to bother the owners at all. All honesty I was eager to give an awesome review UNTIL......... But first, let me touch bases on why I first liked this location. The location was in a very odd place tucked away in a business office strip. Once entering we received a warm greeting. Patrons are very friendly and welcoming. We order two Freddy's omelets which come with hash brown and toast along with two coffees. Omelet was very good. and coffee was just as we like it. Food and prices I would say were about what is expected for a little cafe like this. we got ready to go and went to refill our coffee for our long drive back home. Now I know cooks test their food and the ladies were doing it in a sanitary way fresh item to test. BUT....... As soon as they were done and walk away the man on the grill turned and with his bare hand (without washing beforehand) stuck it into what looked like a large pan of taco meat while dropping some of it in the pan stuck his hand in again and scooped up some of the meat and put it in his mouth. My mouth dropped. As the owner greeted us I told him that was very gross. Thinking he saw what this other guy had just done. But not sure. As I explained that was gross. I was so disgusted in what I just saw all I could do is walk out. Three alarm breakfast tacos are hands down the best breakfast tacos in Houston. I've been searching for the best breakfast tacos and finally found it. Lunch is also delicious. First thing I tried was the buffalo burger and it had so much flavor! You can tell the love they put into making their food by the quality of every bite you take whether it's the breakfast or the lunch. I highly recommend Freddy's Cafe for genuinely delicious food.
