First of all, let me tell you about my waiter. If I remember correctly, his name was Keyshon. He was phenomenal! He went above and beyond to make sure I had an amazing experience. His customer service was everything I needed it to be and was for sure the best part of my visit. The food was good too, but it wasn't something to write home about..if you know what I mean. I requested we be moved to another table and it took a minute for them to accommodate, but we were moved to another table towards the back and we had an excellent time. I wish I could remember our waitress's name, because she was so knowledgeable about the menu and hyped us up on our choices. She was extremely attentive and upbeat to boot - probably the best waitress I've had at a Cracker Barrel. But about the food - I was honestly shocked at how well-cooked and seasoned (almost) everything was. I got their homestyle chicken, mash, mac, dumplings, and gravy with their cheese bites to share for the table. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. The mashed potatoes were smooth, fluffy, and buttery, the Mac was cheesy - a little overdone but still yummy, and the gravy was perfect for dragging my chicken and mash through. The cheese bites were yummy. I've had better but they were still nice to have. And the BISCUITS for the TABLE? So tender and buttery. My only disappointment was the chicken and dumplings. I was very surprised to get a breakfast that was so bad. The biscuits were under cooked and still wet in the middle. The sausage gravy was a thick paste that tasted like pure flour. Inedible. The hash browns looked more like a scoop of mashed potato's. The eggs and bacon were fine and I ate those. I have to say I hate writing these reviews. But I was sorely let down. Went for an after church breakfast for dinner day with my friend. They immediately sat us down but they took FOREVER to acknowledge us and then another won to come take our drink order. After a while of waiting for our drinks then the wait for the food also took pretty long. Once we were at the ravenous point it came out and great deception. Everything was bland. They didn't have some of the stuff ordered and kept it on the ticket when they brought the check. The 2 stars are because the guy at the front discounted the food. This place has gone to shit since I was here little over a year ago. We decided to have dinner here last night and I was envisioning the same good food and service like the last time I was here. However, I was deeply disappointed with the service and the quality of the food. From the moment we sat down, it was clear on the face of the wait staff that they didn't want to be there. They seemed disengaged, uncoordinated, and uninterested in providing even basic service. It took far too long to get a wait staff to take our order even though there were like 5 or more of them, but who was responsible for our table no one knows because I had to get up and ask the hostess about who was suppose to serve us. When the food arrived, things only got worse. The fried chicken looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for hours -- dry, rubbery, and clearly reheated in a microwave. Any trace of crispiness or freshness was long gone. For a place that promotes itself on quality and flavor, this was a huge letdown. Overall, the lack of attentiveness from the staff and the subpar food quality made for a really poor dining experience. The food was horrible: I went in for the Thursday special of turkey and dressing. I should have known something was off as there were hardly any cars in the parking lot and at 4:30, usual dinner hour for the over 55 crowd, the place was almost deserted. I had to open my sack to inspect the food but only after they ran my credit card! Usually it is the other way around as that is the purpose of the cart next to the registers: to make sure order is correct then purchase it. I should have know when I saw just one Slab of turkey, usually there are 3 pieces of meat just cut off the turkey breast, then the driest dressing I've seen due to lack of cream gravy. The second vegetable of carrots was heated up right out of the number 10 can with no taste! All in all a very sorry replica of what used to be!! Now I know why there was no one having dinner. Since when did forks require managerial clearance? Eventually she returned, victorious, with plastic utensils from the takeout counter. At this point, I was just impressed that she came back at all. The kind of meal that makes you say, "Yep, that's food," before immediately forgetting what it tasted like. The bathroom was truck stop clean. Grime on the seats and the smell that could peel paint. It's been a while since I've been to Cracker Barrel, and I don't think I've ever gone for breakfast. I had forgotten that they have a little country store that sells everything at the front. If you have kids, this is a great way for them to stay entertained and for your wallet to feel a little lighter when you leave. For breakfast, there was a decent crowd, but the space was big enough to where we didn't have to wait. My favorite thing about this place is the value of it all. I got the pancake plate that comes with 2 pancakes and a side, thinking that I wanted something small and it was only $7, so why not. I could not finish the meal! The 2 pancakes were decent sized, and you get a small side of protein! It was such a good deal! To be honest, I probably could split it with someone and still feel satisfied. My husband got the country boy plate that that was $14 and came out with way more food than we had expected. He got a seared ham, with eggs, and 2 sides. We definitely had leftovers to bring home. Went for dinner tonight and it was maybe 1/4 full in the restaurant, so not very busy. I was really looking forward to the food and service I remembered. However, the young lady waiting on us never came around after taking our order, a side dish never made it to the table, drink refills seem to be a very rare thing. The food was okay.... Had to ask the hostess for a to go box and had her get our check for us. The wait staff seemed to be having a really good time in the kitchen area but not tending to the few folks in the restaurant.
