PATIO, PATIO, PATIO! Who doesn't love a patio?!?! Not to mention, a perfect patio. Shaded, dog friendly (everyone go ogle at my cutie schnauzer), and an ideal spot for drinking wine. We went on a Tuesday evening and bottles of wine were $10 off. They also have trivia on Tuesdays!!! We ordered the brussels sprouts and meatballs to start, along with a delicious New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Shoutout to my kiwi cousins. The brussels sprouts had a distinct pickle flavor to them, and a deliciously spicy aioli situation on top. Great starters. The meatballs were simple, yet scrumptious. Ideally moist, good red sauce, great flavor. I am in no way Italian so my options on red sauce are moot. Seemed good to me, though. We ended off with the pepperoni pizza, which had the CUPPED ronis. If they're not cupping, I'm not calling. Great pizza, crust not too thin or thick, good flavor. Service is a bit slower on the patio than the rest of the restaurant, I'm guessing. We're harder to see. That being said, if you're on the patio (how many times can I say patio?), you're there to be leisurely. Service went at the exact pace I wanted it to. There is also seating indoors, and on a covered porch, for those patio averse.

We came here for dinner one night on a work trip to Birmingham. We weren't expecting much but Java our sever was super kind and gave us all the top recommendations. We got a few sides and mains. The deviled eggs were just ok but our mains were absolutely delicious. My favourite picks were the Brie and onion burger and my colleague's stuffed peppers. Java went out of his way and provided amazing service. Thank you!

The drinks were great! The food was great! The place itself had a cozy vibe and Alec is the best waiter! Will definitely be back!

This was the perfect spot for apps and drinks before dinner on our anniversary. Our waitress was the MOST delightful human and we loved chatting with her and her service. They have a wide range of wine, cocktails and beer as well as appetizers and food. In a great spot with wonderful ambiance, parking can be a challenge but it's worth it! Can't wait to visit again!

Freddy's has delivered again!! I hosted a group there last night. They have a nice private dining room with AV. Stellar service, food, and drinks made the meeting a success. These folks are doing a great job.

Freddys was fun! A good atmosphere. We came to get drinks before our dinner. I got the lavender haze and it was very vodka forward. Not the best drink I've ever had. A friend got the espresso martini and sent it back. There was no kahlua, like the menu stated. Very disappointed in this. This was a Saturday night and they were out of a few drinks we requested. Would've thought they'd be fully stocked on a Saturday at 5pm. It was a good atmosphere but we're not dying to return.

I stopped by here about a month or so ago with friends. It was late so it was close to when they would be shutting down. Some items on the menu weren't available but my husband and I found some things to eat and drink. The ambiance was nice. The decor is cool. My drink was decent and the charcuterie board was good, but I've had better. Ultimately, we had a good time with our friends. I'd come back and try them again when it's not so close to closing time.

Came to Freddy's before our Bottega dinner reservation. Always a hard time to find a parking spots in this area so we did have to walk a few blocks. We sat ourselves outside per the sign and were quickly greeted by a waiter to get our drink orders. I ordered a Hugo Spritz off their cocktail list and my husband asked if he could order a Ranch Water (tequila, soda, lime) but the staff was told by the owner they could not make off menu drinks anymore. He ended up ordering a scotch neat from the menu. We enjoyed the patio and ambiance, but it got super windy and was about to rain so we snuck inside to finish our drinks. The vibe inside was just kinda of mediocre, the patio is definitely where you want to be! We did not get any food but we will definitely be back to try some soon. I wish I could remember the waitress's name because she was amazing!

I came with a group of 10 for happy hour. Everything was lovely. Great wine selection and food! The people that preferred beer were pleased with the options. I'd definitely recommend

I'm not too sure how this place has such high reviews or maybe it was just a bad night for Freddy's but mostly everything I had was not good at all. Maybe I just chose the wrong items?? The one thing that was slightly good was their take on the Caesar salad (which comes with ice burg lettuce and pecans.) Not to insult the chef but I literally could have vomited from the texture and flavor of the meat balls which consisted of veal, pork, and beef. The Gnocchi "Mac and cheese" was strangely seasoned and the truffle roasted tators were not crispy at all and lacked flavor. My fiancé ordered the McRoy chicken sandwich and said it was okay but wasn't pleased. I'm giving three stars for the service, the atmosphere, and the drink "Gin and Berries." Our server could tell we didn't like our dishes and offered to take both the meatballs and the chicken sandwich off. My fiancé decided to then order a burger and once again he said it was pretty decent. I tasted a bit of the goat cheese burger and it was cooked nicely and seasoned fairly well. Will not be back but I really do appreciate the kind and understanding service!

Sadly the food is way prettier than it tastes. The espresso martini was also beautiful but not good. Cute place, go elsewhere for food.

Loved everything about it! Duck fat potatoes almost made me move into the place. The charcuterie board was also amazing! Will definitely visit again.

What's left of brisket flatbread. Delicious!

This place takes forever to order and close out tabs. The prices are above and beyond what would be charged at a other fine wine bars.

The Sweet and the Absurd: A Birmingham Creamery's Baffling Economics…read moreTo step into Big Spoon Creamery in Birmingham is to subject oneself to a masterclass in both artisanal delight and bureaucratic absurdity. On my visits--a pilgrimage undertaken reliably every month and a half--the front-line staff have never been anything short of exemplary. They are the cheerful stewards of a deeply baffling system, executing their duties with a warmth that almost distracts you from the institutional quirks around them. I say "institutional" because the management themselves are entirely phantom. They are never seen on the floor. Perhaps this is a calculated evasion; if they were ever present, they would surely have to field a relentless, exasperated inquisition regarding the tragic and ongoing absence of their finest creation: the "Magic City." Why an ice cream parlor would willingly suppress its undisputed masterpiece remains an enduring mystery. Even if the economics of its ingredients demanded a premium surcharge, "Magic City" ought to be enshrined as an immovable staple on the menu. Instead, the menu is a restless, ever-shifting carousel. I concede that a relentless churn of novelty is a virtue to a certain type of customer, but the soul of a great neighborhood institution relies on the comforting reliability of a few anchor flavors. At Big Spoon, just as you develop an affection for a flavor, it vanishes into the ether. Then, we must examine the rewards program, an endeavor so poorly conceived it borders on the avant-garde. The mathematics are punishingly flat: one point per order, regardless of whether the patron spends a single dollar or one hundred. The rational response to such a broken incentive structure is, naturally, to weaponize the system. To extract any genuine value, the savvy customer is forced into a theatrical display of micro-transactions, paying for each scoop separately. It is a loophole that needlessly punishes the very staff who make the establishment shine, forcing them to run the register three or four times for a single family's dessert. Finally, there is the creamery's bizarre pricing taxonomy. A close study of the board reveals an accidental arbitrage opportunity: the customer is objectively better off purchasing two distinct pints of ice cream and two empty waffle cones to assemble on their own time, rather than engaging in the straightforward, intended transaction of ordering ice cream scooped directly into a cone. Whoever is pulling the levers behind the curtain at Big Spoon clearly fancies themselves a clever operator, disrupting the traditional ice cream parlor model with dynamic menus and gamified loyalty. But in their pursuit of perpetual novelty and labyrinthine economics, they have embodied the old proverb perfectly: they are entirely too clever by half.
