I had 2 keys that said Do Not Duplicate on the keys. The locksmith duplicated both keys for $4 no questions asked. The locksmith was super friendly, cheap and fast. I couldn't be happier. I agree with an earlier posting that you can't find this locksmith without the Yelp reviews. There is no sign in the front and all you see is a fish market from the sidewalk. I haven't written a Yelp review for months. I'm on a roll today. I needed some keys made, and was around North Beach. I yelped and noticed this odd place in Chinatown. It's inside a a collection of businesses, straight from an asian cinema flick. You have to pass through a fish monger to get to the business counter. An elderly Chinese man will get to work on your keys. Behind the counter is this butcher shop, where I saw pig-parts nestled inside a glass case. A bored older chinese lady sat behind the pig-parts reading a newspaper. Next to the key shop, there is a quail-egg business. I hear children laughing. Odd. The service was quick but the smells. The price was very inexpensive, so it was even-stevens for the weird experience of getting keys made. read more

The owner of this booth is rude. I asked him to make a key, he keeps saying it will not work. Obviously he is wrong because I made the key somewhere else and it is working perfectly. He should learn basic customer service skill. read more

Don't be discouraged by the chaotic fish and meat stalls one needs to pass to get to this locksmith; I provided my set of keys and was provided a quote and estimated completion time of 30 minutes; I returned 25 minutes later, waited a few more minutes and all three sets were completed consistent with the original estimate. Simple, colored key chains were provided at no additional charge. I was asked to refer friends, which I am happy to do so via the Yelp community: this locksmith was a friendly professional who clearly knows his craft! read more

This place is great. I went here with a relatively simple request: re-key a deadbolt and make 10 copies. The price was right: $22, and it was done in under an hour. The shop is a mess, and he doesn't speak great English, so I wouldn't use this shop for anything too complicated (unless you speak Cantonese). However, I got everything I asked for and have no complaints. And you can hang out and watch the live quail next door while you wait. read more

You have to walk by the fish market...but get over it. This guy can cut a key. I had a copy made of my house key at Lowes and I had to bring it back and it still didn't work well. I brought my key here and he did it for $0.90 and it works like an original key. Super cheap, fast and friendly. read more

After reading the reviews, I was really stoked to find a place to copy my do not duplicate key. I studied other reviewers notes and the fish market walk through was not confusing at all. After passing flopping fish, and dead or nearly dead turtles (I think), I stopped right across from the butcher who had a fresh whole pig draped across a table, looking really sad and really dead. I plopped my keys on the counter and sadly, the locksmith informed me he did not have my brand of "do not duplicate" key. I did not ask anymore questions because his English was good but seemed limited and after walking past all of the sad, dead, and nearly dead fish and sea life, and the depressing looking pig carcass, I might have cried right in front of him. So, it's possible my brand just wasn't in stock, who knows. It was the kind with the squarish top to it, says "Liberty" on one side and do not duplicate on the other. Anyway...I'm going to reconsider my anti-vegetarian ways and try to find another place to copy this darn do not duplicate key. 3 stars because the guy behind the counter was very friendly. Minus one for the depressing ambiance and another for not being able to copy my brand of key. read more

Great experience with this locksmith! Very Professional & fair. He does not gouge you because you are in an unfortunate situation like some of the locksmith sharks highly rated here on Yelp who instead take advantage by charging obscenely high rates during normal business hours. If it's afterhours, then yes, a person should be compensated extra for extra service, but not between M-F 8am-5pm hours. If you like to be treated fairly, then Fon Locksmith should be your first round draft pick! Leave those other crooks on the bench who offer same services at double the price of Fon's! There is a reason Fon's is rated #1 on Yelp for Locksmiths. He has earned it. read more

I recently moved from San Francisco to Redwood City. Since i'm back to the area I try to find a place with high reviews so If anything goes wrong I don't have to come back. Plus I don't have a car. The place is a little bit hard to find since it's located at a small market place in China Town. The locksmith work fast and he return my keys with just a couple seconds. ( I was like: did he even look at my keys and check all the angle and shit?) In the end, it works even better than the original one!! One thing he mentioned, "If the original key doesn't work well with the lock, it'll be really hard for him cause sometimes the problem is not the key" Just make sure you bring a key that works perfectly with the original lock so he can duplicate a bunch of babies. read more

Rushed in at 5:57, 3 mins before the shop closes so very sure I would be turned back and thinking of a fallback plan. Fon was having his dinner and he saw me and put the whole box of food to the side and starting serving me with my keys. 3 keys in total, took less than 5 mins. He said $3.50 and I did not believe my ears. The last time I made my keys , was in Walmart for more than $20.00. Not only did he make my keys, he put it on a tiny key chain, how sweet. Since the price came about 1/4th of what I expected it to be and how nice he was the whole time, I decided to tip him $5 from the $20 change he gave me back. He made a surprise(shocking) face and politely refused with a smile. I got desperate now and started to beg him to take it (no, I am not always like that, lol). He finally did me a favor and took 50 cents from the change and gave the rest back to me. I cannot believe in this day and age, there are people like him. I got a little lost because I didn't read the instructions to go into the fish market to the back. I'm glad I double checked. I had a perfect experience. The gentlemen was very gracious, he made my keys right away, I waited maybe 4 minutes for him to make 7 keys. Got out on the cheap a dollar a key. He even put the same color covers on the new keys to match the original set. Can't really get any better... don't look into the frog bucket in the fish market on the way out though- so sad, they're just waiting for the inevitable. read more

Locksmith was as advertised - you go through the fish market at 1135 Stockton St and find him on the left side after a few stalls. There was only one person ahead of me but it takes no more than 1-2 minutes per key for duplication. 3 normal keys were copied at $1/key. He was able to duplicate a DNC key for me as well, at $8 (my landlord was going to charge me $50). Overall, very happy with the result! read more
