Then he wrote back with some tremendously grand excuse about a domestic violence situation that apparently he was fixing the locks in the middle of. If that's true, I'm sorry for whoever was a part of that and don't want that energy in my home. If that's not true, which is where I'm leaning, that just confirms why this man should be avoided at all cost. If you need locksmithing done, call a person who actually values you, your time, and their commitments to you and your families safety. Eddy is the best! He has actually helped me before with a lockout! Just had Eddy install a deadbolt about a foot or so above the existing one because my German Shepherd- Dobie (a smarty pants with separation anxiety) has escaped one too many times! Alex is a true professional. Our building was built in 1936 and it has many of the original hardware, including door locks. Alex knew a lot about the history of the various locks, and worked very quickly to rebuild one lock, match another one to that one, and copy 2 other keys that were very difficult to work with because they had been copied many times over. I locked myself out of my apartment at 9:15pm on a Saturday night ‍. I browsed yelp and Nova Locksmith had the highest review count, so figured they'd be pretty experienced with my basic door knob lock. When I called, I was told it would be $185 for one simple lock. It was higher than usual because it's late/weekend and someone could be over in 20 min. They came 30 min later and it took 10-15 min to convince him the apartment was mine to access and 1 hr to bump/pick the lock (he says it took a long time because the lock is old/used a lot). He ended up charging an extra $25 because it took him longer than he expected (even though it was the same basic lock he expected when it was quoted), which I did not dispute, but think it should have been mentioned in the upfront quote.
