I reached out to Friendly Locksmith and Security to help me fix a broken 100 year old mortise lock…read more I had taken the lock apart and saw that the problem was a broken spring, but I didn't know how to replace it. Other locksmiths quoted me close to $200 to fix this. To my surprise, I got a speedy text response from Vsevolod. He told me that while he was happy to come out and look, this was an easy DIY fix. He explained to me exactly what to do to repurpose the spring to fix the lock. I decided to give it a shot and his suggestion totally worked, saving me an expensive visit. This was top notch service, and if I ever need a more serious repair, I will definitely be reaching out to these guys!

It was late about 2am, I was in a panic, called the 408 number and they said someone will return a call in the SF area in a couple minutes. Yani (who is a lifesaver), then rang me within one minute. I texted him a photo of the lock and he knew right then and there what to do. I personally couldn't use the "credit card method," because the door had a stripping around it and I could not even see the inside of the lock and the situation called for a locksmith at 2am. I was not going to break down the door. Yani, who has been doing this for ten years was very professional, accommodating, and sweet from the beginning. From the phone call til the end of the service, he had the best customer service and I can truly tell he wanted to be helpful. He arrived within 10 minutes after the call. All in all it took less than 30 minutes to solve this problem. Please ask for him the next time you need a locksmith in SF. I attached a photo of the type of door I had. Hope it helps.

Found out my doorknob had been installed backwards, making it impossible to open with the normal latch. Alex is the best -- honest, fast, and saved me hundreds…read more I almost got scammed by another locksmith who tried to charge me $600, claiming my used car's aftermarket alarm would prevent him from reprogramming a key. I ended up losing $180 to him before finding Alex through a friend's recommendation. What a difference. Alex was honest and trustworthy from the start. Even though he didn't know exactly what the previous locksmith had done to my car, he took the time to figure it out and made me a working pair of keys for my 2010 Corolla -- both ignition and doors -- in under an hour. And it cost about a third of what the other guy tried to charge me. I never write reviews, but Alex earned this one. If you need a locksmith you can actually trust, call him first and save yourself the headache (and the money) I went through.

I then tried to confirm who he works with and he told me he doesn't know the name of the employer because he doesn't speak English well. Did not allow him to break the lock down and replace. I needed a keypad upgrade to my residential security gate door, which has a tricky interior layout…read more Not made for anything much larger than a deadbolt cylinder, and pre-dated most keypad locks. I researched a bunch of brands online, but the nature of the metalwork on the door turned this into more job than I could handle. I reached out to a few locksmiths in town, some that I've had good experiences with in the past, but everyone had the same line: you'll need a metalsmith to make alterations to the door in addition to locksmith services. Turns out Alex is also a metal worker, and has a lot of experience working with San Francisco security gates. He talked me through what he referred to as a "light industrial" setup, explaining the benefits and lower energy consumption of this solution. I didn't really need a wi-fi compatible smart lock, just a dependable keypad lock that I could easily set up and add/delete individual codes on. He answered on my first call, took the time to explain what would work best for my situation, offered free advice on a second door that saved me from having to do a retro-fit, got me on the schedule only a few days after I called, and did the installation in under an hour. Will definitely call Alex/Nova Locksmith again, and highly recommend them.

I called him one time from a different number and he answered immediately saying I'll call you right back without knowing who I was. I then canceled the appointment and told him so. I also left a location after being there for two hours and 45 minutes without hearing from him. Then he wrote back with some tremendously grand excuse about a domestic violence situation that apparently he was fixing the locks in the middle of. If that's true, I'm sorry for whoever was a part of that and don't want that energy in my home. If that's not true, which is where I'm leaning, that just confirms why this man should be avoided at all cost. If you need locksmithing done, call a person who actually values you, your time, and their commitments to you and your families safety. This man seems unstable and most likely unsafe given the excuse he provided.
