First time here. Came here to have some keys made for my workplace. There's street parking parallel to the business. Got greeted right away by Ed. Ed was one real cool guy, knew what he was doing and was patient with me and all my Keys I need done. Service was great, fast and friendly. Cool AC blasting and really chill place for Keys. About 10 keys took about 5 minutes. I'd recommend these guys for equivocal and professional service. I'll update once I test the new set of keys out. Hope they are cut to perfection. read more

Very poor customer service. As a community manager I asked for an estimate and the community opted to pay for the estimate to for the company to come out. Older gentleman named Larry knew what the problem was but wanted me to give him the problem without assessing the issue as initially suggested. I played along until he wanted to see the manufactures. I guess the real lock that needed picking was Roy's attitude. This morning, I contacted Mainline Security regarding a key replacement. I spoke with Roy, and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I simply asked for a timeframe on when someone could come out to remake the key, but Roy was rude and unprofessionally throughout the call, he was evening yelling at his customer. And on top of that they are going to charge $210.00 just to change a lock, what a rip off. As a paying customer, I expect the basic courtesy and clear communication. based on this interaction, I will not be using there service again, neither should you. Do call ahead to make sure they are open. I went on a Wednesday at 4:30pm and they had already closed. Their hours say they close at 5pm. Their customer service sucks. I had called that same afternoon and left a message and received no call back. I waited 2 days and called again but this time during business hours and when I asked what time they will close that day, he replied, "we are open now." When I said I can be there by 4:35pm, he said he can wait but if I'm not there he will leave. I ended up coming in during my lunch break. There were about 3 other guys working there. I came to get a special house key and mail box key copied. It only took 5 mins. They accept credit cards with $10 minimum. My total was $17.xx read more

If you need simple keys copied, yes. However, re-keying a lock, no, they're overpriced from other places.

This is my go to place to have keys made, plus they have jets that the regular hardware stores don't have. Also, I've never had a key made that didn't work, can't say the same for the hardware stores. Last week I used your their lock smith services for installing a new mailbox lock at our apartment. They give you a 1 hour window when they would get there, Jared showed up on time and was very efficient and nice. Definitely recommend this company read more

I've been in here a couple times for key duplication and they've been great. But I've had a less than stellar experience with their service guy. I called a while ago to get my spinning bolt fixed and it took them over a day to call back and by then I was too busy to deal. Finally today I had some more time and I tried again, service guy was gruff on the phone. He was too busy to help me out and told me to call someone else. Not horrible, but I wasn't left feeling good about the series of interactions. I'll continue to use them for keys, but will go elsewhere for the on site stuff. read more

Locked myself out of my place and needed fast entry back in. The staff members I spoke to were not friendly to talk to at all and very unaccomodating to someone who just got locked out of their place. But I'm in a hurry, I can tolerate this. I was quoted that they'd arrive in 5-10minutes, didn't have anyone arrive until 20minutes later. Pretty annoying but still a rather minor issue. Finally the locksmith gets here, asks a couple questions about the lock and gets to it, it's a pretty strict business transaction at this point. The locksmith spends 20-30 minutes trying to get the lock open (very standard lock mechanism) and finally gives up and drills the lock open... *facepalm* He does re-do my old lock but it's pretty frustrating that every step of this process was met by poor professionalism and poor workmanship. For someone who is in an older profession such as locksmithing, you'd think customer service would be higher on the list of things to focus on instead of trying to gouge customers who have been locked out of their own place and are in a hurry (a horrible feeling). I CANNOT recommend this place to anyone as I've had the chance to speak to other local locksmiths and they have been pleasant to speak to, seemingly honest about their availability, and quoted me a slightly lower price with all of the guarentees. read more

I own a production company and over time we've grown in our building. We've taken over space here and there and consequently, being there at that building for almost twenty years, our expansion resembles the Winchester Mystery House. There are hallways and rooms in awkward configuration and it's just a general mess. Tried to be open-minded seeing as their location is right around the corner. Very old school business, no way to schedule, antiquated administration. Was just a tad annoying before. Something urgent came up and even though we've spent hundreds of dollars here, they said at 9am they'd call to schedule "or just come by" today. I called to check in at 3pm, the person who answered had no idea who I was or what was happening and was rude. He got the other guy to call me back, the guy said "I said today or tomorrow". He did not say tomorrow on the original call. He said today. I said it would be helpful to make an appointment time so we can avoid misunderstandings. He said, Fine tomorrow 9am! and hung up on me. I have had prior dealing with mainline Security and it was always very professional, and first class. All changed this time. I brought back a lock that we felt (per my installing carpenter) something was amiss. Turns out it was fine. But I was treated by the sales rep as if I was trying to scam Mainline Security. The manager was called in, and showed me where I was wrong. He was very professional. But the treatment by the salesman was offensive and uncalled for. He certainly did not try to solve the problem. The least I expected was an apology when I left, as i collected the lock to try again. None was offered. Do not treat your customers as if they were thieves, especially when you are not selling standard locks at the cheapest price on the market, it will only get you bad reviews and no repeat business. read more

I came here to have a key copied after reading a stellar review that they were good for copying keys. I wanted a color key so I can differentiate this key from other keys on my key ring. I know these aluminum keys are less durable but the convenience is worth it. They had a cheesy pair of one sports team key and an American flag key. Strike one. Fine. I just get a brass key then. At least they have Apple Pay. But there is a $10 minimum. I think this shop has missed the point of convenience and Apple Pay. Strike two. So I dig out my wallet, count out $4, and deal with having to keep track of change in my pocket. Whatever. But then I get home and the copy doesn't even work. Just sticks hard in the door and doesn't budge a millimeter after several tries. Strike three. You're out. Reference for management: I came here the morning of Tuesday, 5/8/18 around 9:30am. My clerk was a guy with dark hair. You probably want to vet that new people can properly duplicate keys before giving them the responsibility to run the machine. read more

Making keys is a pain in the arse. Everyone knows it, but its just one of those things that sometimes some people have to do. And having just moved, I was one of those people. It took about a week to actually attempt venturing to a key cutter, and they were closed ten minutes before we got there. Further discouragement. Finally, more than two weeks after receiving the original single set of keys, my roommate and I made a lunchtime trip to Mainline Security, where we suddenly found ourselves $14.75 poorer and five keys richer. Oh boy! The whole process took about five or ten minutes, in which time we muddled around the key rings and played with the auto-retracting key tether. Get your keys done here but AVOID them at all costs when it comes to contract work. Long story short: they did work on the wrong unit in a tenant building even though they were given the right info by our landlord and blamed US, the tenant, for it. When pressed for more info so we could understand where the disconnect was, they just got more defensive and dismissive. They are also horrible about setting schedules. You mostly will get, "I don't know. At some point..." from this group. If you're in for a cocktail of testosterone, Drunk Uncle, Justice Scalia, and apathy, you should give them a call. It sounds like they're fine for copying keys, but they're clearly in over their heads when offering security camera installations -- and instead of admitting or fixing the resulting problems, are petty, dismissive, and rude. To confirm David S.'s review, I'm also a volunteer officer of the condo building who hired them to install a security camera. We became frustrated right away from some delays in the installation, and their attitude. Our contract clearly stated that they would provide access software and training on all PC platforms, but the ended up handing us a CD that turned out to only work on PCs, and was not easy to use. With a lot of nagging, we finally got them to give us a link to download Mac software, which was completely unusable for a novice, and they would not schedule a training session for us (it became obvious they didn't know how to use the software themselves, and I also later figured out they didn't fully properly configure the DVR software). We postponed the balance of our payment as they hadn't fulfilled their agreement, and they were rude and uncooperative with our condo's management company in trying to resolve this, and changed our access password and threatened to send us to collections. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that there could be miscommunications, and assuming the owners would want to hear concerns directly from the customer, I attempted to talk to them. They were rude and dismissive to me from the start, and were not interested in "wasting" any more time with us. When I pointed out that they still had not trained us on the software, an owner told me that he heard that I had figured out how to use it on my own, and didn't care when I told him it was only the PC version (the other offices have Macs) and I could barely use it. In the end, we decided to just pay them and move on. I had to spend a lot of my own time figuring out how to use the remote access software programs and showing the other HOA officers, and also properly configuring the DVR system. I don't understand how small business owners can treat their regular customers like that. I guess they realized they weren't qualified for the job and decided to cut their losses instead of investing the time and resources to properly finish it. read more

This is both a positive review for Mainline Security and a negative review for OnGuard bicycle locks. I have a new bike and made the mistake of selecting an OnGuard Bulldog ATB 5011 U-Lock (instead of, say, a Kryptonite). After locking my bike to a bike rack in front of the 24 Hour Fitness in Potrero Center, I came out after my workout and attempted to unlock it. No go. The key turned 90 degrees, but no further. I tried for 20 minutes, to no avail. I then went to my office across the street and returned to the bike rack two more times during the day, heeding advice I had read on Amazon.com and from OnGuard itself (I spoke with customer service). "Tap it with a hammer," "Tap while turning the key," "Push the lock back the other way" -- nothing worked. Another gym member told me his bike was stolen from that bike rack just yesterday, so I did not want to leave the bike overnight while I figured out what to do next. I called Mainline Security. Terry sent John over, and John showed up 15 minutes later. He took a look, plugged his electric saw into his truck and went to work. Ten minutes later, the bike was free and I was stuck with the corpse of an inferior bike lock. Mainline charged me $103 for the service, which I was happy to pay because OnGuard said it would reimburse me up to $100 and because of my fear of leaving the bike there overnight. Three lessons: 1. Don't use an OnGuard bike lock. 2. Be careful parking your bike in front of the Potrero Center 24 Hour Fitness. 3. Mainline Security rocks! read more

These guys are awesome. They're very nice whenever I come in (which is a lot of occasions as of late since I needed to duplicate like 30 keys), and were very accommodating with my needs of looking up and duplicating a key to a cabinet that I had accidentally locked for which I did not have a key. Whoops. Also, in my haste running back and forth from Mainline Security to work, I must've dropped one of the keys I got duplicated on the street somewhere. Stupid, stupid, stupid! But guess what? They very kindly duplicated it for me for free, and also gave me the little green rubber key-covering thing gratis for my stringent rainbow color coding purposes. In other words, they're idiot proof! That's good news for me, I think. I'ma keep coming back to them even though there are other places nearer my work that I could go to get keys duplicated. Mainline Security is a definite Win. The only locksmiths that I will ever go to for anything ever again. Perhaps my newfound passion for their services is due to the fact that they actually did it right. I wanted duplicate keys for my apartment. This can be such an easy process if you go to Mainline Security. Unfortunately for me, I went somewhere else first. Cole Fox Hardware on 4th and Mission-ish. I won't get into the service or professionalism that I witnessed there. I will only say that I waited 20 minutes to spend $3.98 on 4 keys, none of which worked. At Mainline I was helped immediately and spent $10.85 on the same 4 keys...all of which worked. Personally I think the $7 extra was worth it! This review is long overdue. Last Labor Day weekend I was taking out the garbage while cleaning my apartment and having the back door open created a suction that pulled my front door shut. Right when it closed I realized that I was locked out on a holiday weekend when most of my friends are out of town in the desert! To top it off, my spare keys were sitting inside...Family is across the bridge, and my fiance was away on his bachelor getaway. Larry Thrasher came to my rescue!
