Really love this place. They duplicate keys really quickly and they are friendly. My friends had a really hard time getting the keys to their house duplicated because it said "do not duplicate" on them, no matter how many times they explained to lock smiths that they owned their house. Price for copying normal keys is pretty high. $3 +tax for each key (vs $1.50 for competitors). My fault for assuming that copying a standard door key would be the typical price point and not asking the price beforehand. The guy who copied my keys this time around was different than the guy from my first experience--this new guy seemed less happy to work there but was nonetheless still polite. New guy also didn't voluntarily tell me until the keys were already made and was ringing me up. 'Whatever,' I thought, 'just a drop in the bucket. Consider it a convenience charge for being semi on the way to Caltrain (this one time I actually need to take Caltrain).' The last thing he said was along the lines of...'if there's anything wrong with the keys, just bring them back and we'll fix it for free.' Thanks, but odd--isn't exactly reassuring. Welp, then I got home and tried the keys and--yep, you guessed it!--there was something wrong. 1 of 2 professionally copied keys didn't work. That's another thing to add to my never-ending to-do list: go back and get the key fixed. Hope it gets copied right in Round 2. read more

Key Copy story. I don't write a ton of reviews these days but Mainline deserves every one of these stars. All I wanted was to get two copies of my house key. I tried going to a couple of places (e.g., UPS) that will make keys but it is not their primary business. The keys made at these places did not work. I decided to go to a real professional and Mainline made 2 copies of my key in under 5 minutes for about $7. UPS, for example, charged $5 for one key that did not work. Extremely inflated prices. Got quoted one price on the phone and charged a higher amount when they came on site. The dude came for 5 minutes to rekey my lock and charged closed to $250 for labor plus keys. Maybe I don't know how much it costs to rekey locks but it's for sure no rocket science and shouldn't cost an exorbitant amount. read more

Great place but sort of hidden. I can't believe my 3new keys worked. I made a copy of my very dull key and it was made within 10min. I was a little worry it might not work because my original key was very wearable and a little dented. Just amazing all 3keys worked on my first visit. The staff at Mainline Security was super friendly and prompt. I accidently broke a key in half while opening my front door. In 15 minutes, they were able to take apart the lock, pull out the shreds of my old key, and generate brand new keys (that work much better than my originals did). I walked in today, ordered a key and had it done with a lovely demeanor, professionalism and speediness that made my jaw drop. Seriously, it all took less than 5 min, from parking my car to paying and leaving... *This is the SAME key that Millbrae Lock, whose been in business forever and a day, told me would take 4-6 weeks to make... one, single key. Plus, when I called this business to double check on the status of this magical key, the man informing me essentially called me a liar and stuck by whatever his owner had said/not said (even though said man on the phone with me was NOT present when I made the transaction with the owner). Would never give them business again. Really sad. And yeah, still waiting for that polite phone call from that business that the mythical key has been made... not holding my breath* Thrilled to have this done so well and so quickly. I needed copy made of a Medeco key. After going through a handful of locksmiths who weren't able to copy it I came upon Mainline Security. Apparently they're one of the few locksmiths in San Francisco who can cut Medeco keys, since Medeco keys are much more common on the east coast than the west. I spoke with Terry on the phone before going there in person, and from the get-go it was smooth sailing. He told me they probably could make the key but he would need to see it to make sure. He also mentioned that it would be $14 for a Medeco key so that I knew up front it would be more than a standard key. Terry ended up being able to cut the key from me. Took them 3 days to make copies of 30 keys. Then on the 3rd day I called to see what the status was of our keys and the guy on the phone said they were ready. I asked him why I didn't receive a call and he said they did call. I said what number, he repeated my number but I never received a call. I know he was lying because I said why didn't you leave a message? He said they "couldn't get through". WTF? Typically, you call again right? No, they're just lazy and they never called. When I went in, the guy that helped me was very nice and pleasant. He was a big guy, medium to dark complexion and he was really customer service orientated. The dude on the phone both days, which was the same guy I could tell, was lazy sounding, sloppy and sounded like he was munchin' on a donut like Homer Simpson. So my key goes into the lock for my condo and 1/3 of a turn and....the door does not unlock and the key is stuck in the tumbler. My phone is in the condo and I am practically in pajamas. Got a hold of Mainline through the front desk and in less than half an hour I was back in the condo. They needed to rekey the tumbler and cleaned and lubed the ($500 - who knew) mechanism. Took it to the shop and they returned in about an hour and reassembled the door. Tested it and made adjustments to fine tune it. Everything was back to working with a full guarantee for a few bennies. Tragedy averted. Fast, friendly and efficient. Just the way I like it. read more

I got a new place and would like to re-key my unit door. The condo HOA manager suggested mainline security. I called the place and the guy answered the phone was very nice to explain how did the re-key work. I made an appointment for the next day. 2 guys came over to replaced the mail box key, and re-keyed my unit door. It only took about 20 min. The cost was also lower than originally estimated. I went here to get some copies of my motorcycle key. I brought with me a list of all of the key blanks that would work, since not all locksmiths have a lot of experience with motorcycle keys. I showed it to the guy at the counter, but he didn't want to look at it; he said he wouldn't need it. He then made copies of my key using blanks that were not in my list. They didn't work, so I brought them back and asked if he was sure he didn't want to see my list; again he said he didn't need it. He did something to the copies and I went and tried them again; still no dice. When I brought them back again, they gave me a full refund. read more

We were neighbors a little while back and somebody maliciously jammed a key and snapped it off in side our gate lock. One of the guys came out and checked it (with the intent of cutting it off and us buying a new lock from him and the cost of the cutting), said he'll be right back, and then came back with some tools to remove the snapped key so that we could use the lock again!
