I saw some reviews about the key copying failing... should have gone to a more highly rated place. The key copying was fast and cheap ($7/key) but I got inexact copies so they only work with the perfect placement and pressure. It can take upwards of 10 tries to work. The customer is an inconvenience to them. Matt the manager is alway out of traveling or something. Which is unfortunate since according to Maryann and Eli Matt's the only one at that company that can access their order history/status and he can only do that when he's in the office. They are immediately rude on the phone no matter what you say. Ask them about a $3k order you have with them and no one knows about it. Here is an example, it took 5 months to get them to acknowledge that they even placed our orders. It's now been 8 months and they don't know where the order is and asked for us to send the order because THEIR order numbers weren't enough. read more

Venue: this shop is located in the basement (floor -1) of 60 Spear St. Didn't see any signs but the receptionist was kind enough to direct me. Once on the lower floor, signs will direct you to the shop. Service: I give them kudos for doing it quickly - I was literally in there and out in 5 min. You give them the keys you want to copy and they do it right there and then. Price was pretty good too - $12.31 for copying two keys. However, my complaint is that I brought two keys, and one of them was copied incorrectly (on a completely different key base than what was needed). If key copying is going to be your main business, do it correctly. Also didn't help that the man who helped me seemed somewhat disinterested in the transaction and I felt somewhat that I was being rushed out. For a key business, would have expected it to be done properly the first time, as I would not want to have to double check it myself. I was asking for a super custom job that lost locksmiths would turn down. They essentially had to cut and fabricate my key to fit into a switch blade housing. It took some time but it happened! Fast, friendly and...not easy to find. I came here to get duplicate keys made for my house. Walking down the alley, I almost missed the little shop tucked literally inside a garage. The two men working were extremely pleasant, smiling and happy - and my keys were done before I had time to read through more than half a page of the binder full of reading material they keep on the counter to entertain the customers. I've come here a couple of times when I needed keys made for the office in a rush. They are are not too far away so it was fairly convenient. However, they are very expensive in comparison to the average hardware store. I think I paid almost $4 per key as compared to $1-2 at other locations. The last time I had keys made here, a gentleman came in while I was waiting because they made his key wrong. A couple of months later I tried to get into my office one evening after my colleagues had left. I had forgotten my phone at my desk or something. It was then that I realized that the key they had made for me was also made incorrectly and I was locked out! Not a very good situation to be in. The service was fast and the man who helped me was friendly, but I'm giving this place 3 stars because of two things: 1. I almost didn't go in because it's on the basement floor of an office building and I thought I had the wrong address. They should definitely try to put out a sign or something 2. I've been going to this place in my capacity as office manager for a downtown nonprofit, since it's less than a block away. While they provide relatively quick service and have a lot of key paraphenalia for sale, there are three things you should know: * Their prices have gone from $2 per key copy to $3.30 in the last year or so. I don't want to think about what kind of a percentage increase that is. And $2 is not even cheap to begin with. * They profess to be open until 5pm, but you'd better not try going at 4:30, especially not on a Friday. * They botched my last set of keys (they made them too short, so they won't work on the lock). I am going back tomorrow. Will they remake them for me? That is the decisive question, in terms of whether I avoid them like the plague from now on. read more

I can only give them this many stars because of their location and how fast they processed my keys. It's in literally downtown SF in a little alley ... and they literally took my keys (told me I couldn't get the Hello Kitty ones OR any of the other colorful ones :'( within two seconds of looking at the "six prong") and then made two copies within 3 minutes. I paid them 3.50 per key and the bf said I was ripped off.. but I think it was okay since I paid for the convenience. Overall, I'd go back again if I just need one or two keys done. All the good things everyone else is saying about them is true. I went on my lunch break and needed a set of 4 keys duped twice. The gal said "ok", turned around to her work bench and had it done in less than 10 minutes while I checked email on my iphone. I got a couple color bands thrown in and total was about $30. Great place, not too hard to spot, it looks like a repair garage from the alleyway but they have a little standing sign on the sidewalk. They do operate quickly, but I woulnd't say they are overly friendly - it's not like we made small talk about the weather or anything at all. You walk past parked trucks into a tucked away garage-roll-up-door entry, where there is a counter with a wall of various keys behind it. Good if you need keys made on your break and work nearby. I called around to a few shops and learned that to come to my office they would charge me $60! Outrageous. That said, I see no reason a firm shouldn't charge me a 'convenience' fee, but $60! Really? Crappy place in a garage in an alleyway. Went there to get 3 keys copied and was greeted with a gruff "we don't do car keys". What kind of place copies everything but car keys? But they guy still wanted me to copy my other two keys! Like, if I already now have to go somewhere else I'm going to get only *some* of my keys copied with him. Yeah, I don't think so. I created a Yelp account just to review this place. It's things like the everyday basic services that we probably don't appreciate enough. I've used Complete Security twice and both times the service was no-nonsense and super fast. These people know keys. I was first referred there a couple years ago when they were still at the Stevenson location. Ace Hardware couldn't copy my keys which were some kind of non-standard security key, but Complete Security did the job and it didn't even take 2 minutes. Recently I needed keys copied again and again they did great. Oh, and they're nice people too. read more
