I am in Phoenix for work. And I have been looking forward to coming to flower Child for years. It was on my list and it did not disappoint. I ordered the avocado hummus with raw vegetables instead of pita. The hummus was nice and thick with great flavor And the vegetables were fresh and had the perfect crunch. I ordered the asparagus and quinoa tabouli which was delicious on its own. However, I mixed it in to my chop salad with ginger miso dressing (added tofu) Get the chocolate pudding. Flower Child fit the bill for all of us. My wife and I had entries. She had Tofu, I had Salmon. You get two sides with your meal. We had Cauliflower Risotto ( cauliflower rice, coconut, toasted bread crumb, lemon, parsley) 2 orders of Asparagus & White Bean (red bell pepper, summer squash, arugula, pistachio, basil pesto) Sweet Potato Fries. We thought the Asparagus and White Bean was pesto heavy and could have been hotter. The fries were good as was the Cauliflower Risotto. My son had the Mother Earth bowl. Ancient grains, sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, broccoli pesto, charred onion, leafy greens, red pepper miso vinaigrette, hemp seed. He said everything was fine. This place always has the most delicious food! My personal favorite is the Mother Earth bowl with shrimp. It is absolutely packed with flavor and is filling and nutritious. Over the years I've been a fan of flower child. However, in recent visits it's been subpar at best. It seems the portions shrink each time I go, which for the price is not ok. I'm talking a sprinkle of arugula, and a dash of sliced tomatoes for $15+. In my most recent visit, which was this past Sunday 4/13, I was turned off for good. I ordered the Mother Earth, which came with burnt, inedible sweet potatoes and chewy, barely edible tofu. Not only that but there was literally a sprinkle of red miso vinaigrette... my partner was able to flag down an employee in a red shirt who looked like she was being held against her will at this establishment. She did bring us more sweet potatoes but was incredibly rude while doing so. We thanked her profusely (why did we thank her when the food arrived inedible??) ((it's your job?????)) and she just rolled her eyes. I've worked in the industry for years, so I understand bad days but there are too many other restaurants in the area to waste my time and money here again. It was packed for lunch but we were able to snag a table in their patio and despite being so busy, our food came out at a reasonable amount of time. We got two separate dishes of their protein+ 2 sides. Salmon, curry cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts: salmon was cooked well-no special seasoning or flavor but still cooked well. The standouts here were the two sides. I couldn't decide which one I liked better but they each were packed with flavor and seasoning and I wanted more. Chicken, Gluten - Free Mac & Cheese, and Red Chile Glazed Sweet Potato: the protein again was cooked fine but no special flavor to it. The mac and cheese was pretty basic and standard but not bad. I just looooove Flower Child so much, it has yet to disappoint. I've been a big fan of theirs for how easy it is to eat clean, feel good, and have the perfect amount so that afterward I'm not regretting it. This time, we enjoyed a few plates. We're fans of being able to enjoy ourselves a protein and the two sides, except this time we added another side of protein to be protein forward and another side to get a chance to try something new. My partner selected the steak with golden mashed and broccoli (his absolute favorite broccoli) and I selected the salmon with glazed yams and cauliflower risotto. Y'all, the sides are SO GOOD. They're jam packed with flavor and you know it's absolute goodness. They taste so good and you feel how good it is for you too, as you're enjoying it! How is that possible? I'd never had the cauliflower risotto before and it's both creamy, the cauliflower tasted perfectly cooked and it has some form of bread crummies or something atop and it is delightful. The golden mashed just melts in your mouth, they are just divine. The yams have the perfect glaze, just sweet enough, but the added crunch of the other veggie in there (I know it's not celery but something of the sort) is soooo good. Great place for a healthy meal. The food is flavorful and fresh. The staff are incredibly friendly. That said, there are two things that I wish they'd change. The food is often delivered slightly above room temperature. It doesn't matter what it is. I have to ask to have the food extra hot to have it delivered hot. The Rewards Program is good for those of us who dine more frequently however there is one feature that that is awkward. They offer a Up to $15 reward for a bowl, salad or wrap. If you order a bowl for $12 25 and then add steak. The Reward applies only to the bowl. So it's not truly up to $15. They really should make the offer more clear. Covid really ruined so many things and unfortunately this location is no exception. I used to love Flower Child and was a frequent customer. But this last year especially, I've experienced an unfortunate change in quality, cleanliness and attitude. My last experience was really the worst and unacceptable in my humble opinion. We placed an order for two salads to go. It was placed about 45min before closing, so maybe they were angry? Who knows! All I know is I found a massive string that honestly looked like it was from a mop, but probably from some sort of rag. Again, who knows! What I do know is it was gross and for the money it was unacceptable and still gross. I sent an email and I was refunded my money but it was obvious that the women who responded didn't seem to think it was that big of a deal, since her response was, "Oh that's unappealing." Lady, that's an understatement! I'm pretty sure the health department would agree as well. I'm so disappointed. This was our healthy go to place and ate here at least twice a week until now.
