A few nights ago was the worst experience I've ever had here. I went in at 8:20. There was a family in front of me re-ordering their soup because it was cold. Eventually when I get to the counter the cashier with blonde hair and black glasses says "we're closed, we close at 8:30" I told her I got here before 8:30, I've been in line for 10 minutes. She then rudely asked me "what are you trying to get?" And proceeds to tell me that none of the burners are on and they've closed the entire kitchen already. So I left because they would only serve me cold soup. I don't understand this procedure. The website should really say they close at 8:00 if they won't serve anyone past then. Or lock the doors if you truly are "closed". And don't make me wait in line just for you to tell me you won't serve me. I want to like this place but the service is unreliable & I have a hard time saying so because I do love the chicken enchiladas - if I'm lucky enough to get them sense they are usually sold out. read more

What a great find! Shopping at HomeGoods and saw this on the corner and did a double glance. Aesthetically this place is restful, pretty, clean and cheerful. Great use of natural and modern design elements and has indoor and outdoor seating. They play a range of current alternative music. Great for groups or small gatherings and has a walk up order system, so you don't have to worry about splitting checks. Menu has it all. Small plates, bowls, sandwich wraps etc. great balance of dietary needs for everything. Definitely a place you can bring a friend who needs particular restrictions. Though, not nut allergies. The dessert options are more limited, so not necessarily a place for coffee/desserts. Staff are responsive and helpful. They bring the food to your table and clean your dishes up. Kid friendly with a kids menu. Has a changing table in the restrooms. I ordered the heirloom tomato toast which was super tasty. I also got the thai bowl but the thai flavors weren't strong. It was good tasting food, but I ate the bowl confused what flavor I was trying to taste. I also got the cauliflower curry small plate and didn't enjoy the flavors. They use some kind of curry blend that has cinnamon or something sweet in it that is not my favorite flavors. Also for me, the cauliflower was too under done. Otherwise, great experience. I met a friend for lunch here and was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of foods. Everything is made to order and you can really customize things to your liking. My current favorites include the kale, the corn and quinoa side. Their wraps are delicious too! If you like healthy food, this is a restaurant that you'll want to make part of your routine. After three visits to this restaurant, I can confirm the food is delicious, but the portions are small. At this place, you order your food at the counter, and they bring it to your table, but not all at once. Your food comes out when it's ready, so not everyone gets their food at the same time. This isn't a problem, unless you want to wait until everyone has their food before anyone starts to eat. Call it bad luck, but each time the same guy has been at the cash register when I order. He's totally distracted by his co-workers and friends in line. He quite possibly is simply ditzy or has impaired his short-term memory thanks to recreational products because my order has been wrong or missing an item during each visit. Lemme get the food part of this review handled quickly up front because the second part of this review (about the big business of modern American health food restaurants) is fascinating to me and hopefully to you too. Flower Child is a Boulder-esque looking version of True Foods in a fast casual setting. The food is absolutely excellent. Had one of their most popular dishes today: The Mother Earth Bowl. A truly delicious beautifully presented serving of ancient grains, sweet potatoes topped with a red pepper vinaigrette sauce, sautéed portobellos, charred onions, arugula and a dab of pesto. Just fantastic, and that's true whether or not you're a veg-head (and I'm not). All for under $10. Really a treat and really something you'll love. You'll find the ambience totally hip. Large open space, exposed ducting. Simple functional and comfortable seating. Lots of glass and light and high ceilings. High energy. A bit loud but not overwhelming and lots of happy looking millennials hangin' on both sides of the counter as workers and customers. That said here's what so interesting. This is not a one-off family-owned local business. This is a member of a chain of now 27 Flower Child restaurants developed by Sam Fox who's one of the most successful individual restaurant developers / owners in the universe. (Recently another Flower Child was opened in the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver where the old Safeway used to be). I ran into my first SF restaurant 3+ years ago in Phoenix around where he first got into the restaurant business as a college dropout many years ago. The place was called The Henry and it was a well-known and loved 5 star place along the lines of one of my favorite restaurants in the country, the Manhattan Beach Post in Manhattan Beach, CA. (I've written about both of those places if you're interested in what you'll be getting into with a visit to an SF restaurant). Fox has developed several chains of "concept" restaurants along the lines of what he's done with the Flower Child brand all over the country and in July 2019 he sold what was then a portfolio of over a 100 operations to The Cheesecake Factory restaurant group for over $350 million(!). (SF's sale also included his North Italia restaurant group. Bottom line: I'm a huge fan of Mr. Fox's and so far of all of the restaurants that he's imagined and brought to life. I think the guy's an American restaurant super nova and it seems to me that he deserves all of the immense wealth that he's worked so hard to accumulate over these many years in the business. Flower Child is a great place to eat lunch. They have a healthy but very tasty menu and have plenty of gluten free options for my family. I had the meat balls and the wife had the salmon glow bowl. Both of the entrees were on point and very tasty. The service was also very good. They overcooked the first salmon and we shared that with our hostess and she immediately brought an other salmon which was cooked perfectly. We had their gluten free mac and cheese on the side and it was absolutely delicious. Very cream and cheesy and the gluten free pasta had a nice texture unlike many of the gluten free pastas I have tried in restaurants that tend to the mushy side. Absolutely love this place. You can taste the quality in the food! Saw this place while shopping at home goods next door and wasn't sure what it was but was drawn to it bc of the ascetic! So cute! Saw the menu and knew I had to try it. Everything was so fresh and made fast. I loveeee poke so wasn't sure I was going to feel about vegan poke but the ingredients sounded so good I couldn't pass it up. And I'm glad I didn't! Delicious flavors! The beets were the star! Also got the watermelon and tomato salad. Good but small. But when you think about it perfect size as a side. My boyfriend got the rebel which was a steak wrap. I had a bite and it was very good! He really liked it and wants to go back to try more things. One suggestion: for guests that only get water they should think about getting reusable cups. read more

Wow, this was by far my favorite meal I had while visiting Boulder. The menu set up of this place is completely different than anywhere I have ever visited. They have an option to order one dish, or you can order off of the menu of smaller items and combine the smaller items to make one bigger dish. It is difficult to explain and will make more sense when you look at the menu. It is an order at the counter type of place. They give you a number to place on your table and the servers will bring the food to your table when it is ready. The interior of this place is just beautiful. They have a beautiful outdoor covered patio section as well attached to the main restaurant. There were little bouquets of flowers on the tables, interesting artwork, cool drinks, etc. It's the small touches that make this place so great. The food came out pretty quickly and OOOH I was impressed. The presentation of everything was lovely. I ordered the spicy coconut curry with tofu and it was one of the tastiest dishes I have ever eaten. I wish there was a Flower Child near me so I could eat here every day of the week. read more

Found myself in Boulder at lunchtime and was feeling like a salad. Hitch was, I had my decidedly non-salad-friendly family with me so I couldn't pick anything toooo crunchy. No fear, Flower Child was here. The aesthetic is all the charm of a mother-earth cafe with the polish (and budget) of a restaurant empire. Cool murals meets marble cafe tables. Perfect execution, no notes. The counter service was good - totally unremarkable. The food ended up being a big hit with my whole family. I got some sort of fall salad with chicken, roasted squash, and some kind of grain over a prickly lettuce. Exactly what I was looking for. The real stars of the meal were the sweet potato fries (with a killer Greek yogurt green goddess dip) and the Brussels Sprouts that came with my other family members meals. Super, super yum. Wow! I had a Turkey avo cobb (with avo ceaser dressing?) and wow! The best salads to me start with crisp fresh lettuces and this definitely had that. Not a single brown or soggy piece to be found. Next is meat without any gross parts to it and I have that as well. Then fresh crisp veggies and some sort of crunchy element and a delicious dressing... This had all of that and more. I mean really if you can make a salad fancy at a casual place this was that. Absolutely high-quality delicious ingredients and if I lived closer I would be there all the time. They've raised their prices quite a bit. That 3-side vegetarian plate I used to pay under $10 for when they first opened a year ago is now starting at $12.95 without a protein. On top of that, the incredible gluten-free mac and cheese I was raving about is now scooped smaller than any other side dish I've received (has happened twice, so it seems this is a new thing.) I come here FOR the Mac, so this breaks my heart. Luckily the flavors are still balanced and thoughtful, and there's still an abundance of healthy options, but the new increased prices and slightly smaller portions is enough of a change to make me opt for another restaurant that actually has wait staff. If you were to order a bowl or a dish that has a protein, you'd basically be paying fine dining lunch prices at this point. Also, good luck finding a seat at lunchtime. What madness! read more

Alright you got me flower child. Believe the hype. This place is legit and their service is second to none! They must really care about their fast causal service because our dinner was running late and two waitresses came out to apologize. It did feel a little long but I assumed it was my hanger kicking in. I'm not sure if it was the owner but she brought out our food and profusely apologized for it being late and comped our whole meal! We were so shocked and kept telling her it wasn't necessary but she insisted. So five stars alone on the service! It's definitely appreciated by customers. We got a Mother Earth bowl and the sweet potatoes are to die for! We also got a tofu entree with spicy eggplant and curried cauliflower. Loved it all and highly recommend the curried cauliflower! Note, the place is kind of a self-service place, but more organized. Came here with a friend for lunch around 1:15 PM on a Monday, it wasn't packed but the place was pretty busy. There were a couple of empty tables scattered and the patio looked very inviting but the heat was killing us, so we decided to sit inside. For lunch, I ordered the Mother Earth bowl and asked if I could substitute the avocado for anything else, which they were more than happy to do! I added broccoli but you could be creative and maybe add greek yogurt? Anyway, I also added salmon to complete the dish. Enjoyed it, loved it, and definitely not guilty of eating outside for lunch. Think I'm going to talking about this place for a while and making it a more frequent part of my diet. Flower Child serves up such tasty, fresh cuisine that doesn't break the bank. I got the "plate" including salmon, sweet potatoes, and green beans. The sweet potatoes had a bit of flare with the chili sauce which went perfectly with the grilled salmon to balance the heat out. It felt like a full sit down meal in a more fast paced restaurant. Always a factor in distribution of stars to a review, this one is easily earned when calculating cost correlated with portion sizes and foremost flavors. Star Five: Neat. In more than one sense of the word, the restaurant is absolutely organized, spotless (including the loo) and provides a traveler's anticipated Boulder experience without the stereotyped hippie sensations. The only downside of Flower Child is that my current place of residence won't allow for me to dine here more often because the combination of ambiance, service and quality products make for a value of the highest level and would motivate any Yelper to work their way up the chart and vie for Duke or Duchess in a matter of weeks. The avocado toast and the Thai Dye wrap (they bake their own wraps every day or sooner if they run out, never had a stale one) are my fave cold plates and for the three side plate, I love the glazed Brussels, the sweet potatoes, the Mac and cheese, the fruit cup, they all assort well and my husband likes some of the others I've never tried yet. I've been underwhelmed with the lack of love put into the food & disappointed in their to-go packaging, which still uses way too much plastic. In comparison, Sweetgreen in Boulder delights those looking for a plentiful salad or bowl that is not only so much more fresh & organic-it's seriously both healthy & DELICIOUS. LOL ignore the location, I clicked the wrong thing and once I noticed it was already too late to go back. I'm visiting Colorado from Texas for a week while I'm here I decided to venture out ( food wise) and found this place. At first I was scared it would be TOO hearty too leafy... If you will. But NO!! They've popped off, the meat was cooked perfectly & cut like butter. My favorite side was the gluten-free mac & cheese, runner up was the broccoli. Even the lemonade was really good?! Like good enough to mention right now Oh and the cookie ...the cookie was so SOFT? For it being packaged like that it was so moist and yummy! Definitely recommend this place to any and everyone! New to Boulder I went here because I heard many good things about their clean food.. I experienced it as very hip, Very very expensive, and not actually so clean. At their prices they really need to deliver at the top of the organic and quality food chain....(even the deliberate glistening and colored appearance of their shrimp was very disturbing) TI must be for people who don't usually eat clean to get the experience..If you do eat a lot of greens, you will find their multi-diner salads to be WAY too small. read more
