I would give Flippy's 10 stars :-) if possible. We tried Flippy's for the first time on our way back to the Bay, after spending the weekend in Yountville for a wedding. After a serious night of celebration, we were in a hurry to watch the Giants game and needed an awesome breakfast to finish off our mini vacation. We decided to stop on the way home, somewhere. Introduce Flippy's!! We were excited when we came across the small cafe and extremely pleased with our experience. My boyfriend was wearing a Giants jersey, and so was everyone else who worked there! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The walls are adorned with sports memorabilia - fun to admire during our brief wait for breakfast. We ordered french toast & the breakfast burrito. Before our food arrived, we received a surprise "SF" appetizer. All of the food was delicious. We were impressed with their food & service, so we left a $13 tip. Found myself visiting family in Rodeo this morning, cold and wet of course, and felt like grabbing a quick bite before some of us headed back home. After some discussion and many vetoes I mentioned Flippy's; I've seen this place on the main street many times, as I pass it coming and going, but strangely no one in the family who lives in Rodeo was familiar with it! Well, now we HAVE to go! The outside is rather plain, but with a bright yellow and green sign, and a small lot in front (it's on a triangular corner) and ample street parking around. The inside, when we walked in, was amazing! The ambience is colorful yet homey, with soft booths and lots of wood to make you feel like this place had been here a hundred years. The place sports tons of sports related items, including an amazing collection of felt banners (once popular in my youth!), with a variety of major teams. The oldest banner I remember seeing was from 1959 - a couple of years before my time, so to say. Other items include hats, photos - including really old local teams - towels, posters, assorted knickknacks and a wonderful baseball display with bats, balls, and even catcher's leg protectors, all beautifully mounted and displayed above a corner booth. I haven't even eaten yet and I feel at home! The far wall has tons of graphics and artwork, all apparently reflecting local business and activities of the past, and hand painted. Large and colorful, a must see. Oy - I need to take a break from nostalgia overload, and get to the food. The booths are cozy, with menus on a wall clip and easily accessible. Plenty of windows on all sides made a wet and gloomy morning feel warm and cozy inside. The restaurant features a small counter area next to the kitchen, for those dining solo or wanting some conversation with the staff. We ordered a variety of foods, along with a hot chocolate and iced tea. They arrived quickly, the chocolate hot, with whipped cream, and the tea cold. I would suggest they add Splenda, though, as an option - I'm a Splenda guy and I rarely find places without it! And this is one of those places; but, a pet peeve of mine, I survived with Sweet 'n Low. For food we ordered a French toast delight half plate with bacon and scrambled eggs (for full delight you get 2 sausage links and 2 strips of bacon OR patties). Lots of options for pancakes, French toast and waffle plates. Waffles are only served until noon, though. They also have a biscuit and gravy delight, but we tried the biscuits and gravy as a side order. They also have the "half delight" for the pancake and option. A petite plate, breakfast burrito and a nice variety of 2 and 3 egg omelettes round out the breakfast menu. I had the 3 egg Spanish omelette, with sourdough toast and asked for my hash browns crispy. We ordered a "soup of the day" which was Clam Chowder for today. The cup of soup didn't last (the 3 year old devoured it!) so we ordered another, in a bowl this time! They came with plentiful crackers (which were not as crispy as they could be - a little stale when eaten alone, but okay for dunking in the soup). The food arrived a little haphazardly: first the soup(s) which was okay as it was an appetizer, but then my omelette arrived a little later and after another short delay the other orders. Would have been nice to get all breakfast plates relatively together, but for us it was acceptable as we were able to share and nibble on other's plates; most people probably would want the food arriving together, though, to avoid 1 or 2 people eating (so there the food doesn't get cold) while others awkwardly waited. Only 1 cook, and it was an hour before closing but not many folks, so I'm not sure the reason for this delay. The food itself was good overall. The omelette was tasty, the hash browns nicely crisped, and the toast with enough butter (never enough for me it seems, but this was close!). The French toast was good, with scrambled eggs and bacon cooked nicely. The biscuits and gravy were a disappointment, though. The gravy was very thick and paste like (it stuck to a spoon held upside down!) and the biscuit was dense, almost like a white cake. So, wouldn't order again. Otherwise, the food was good. I can't see anyone coming from a distance for the food, but if you want good, down home cooking for a good value (we spent $35 for three adults and a 3 year old, and we all left happy) then this is your place. I can see the locals enjoying it, and I hope to return and try other menu items, like the special junior corner menu, hamburgers, specialty items (check out the menu!), soups and salads, fountain items, hot diggity dogs and - of course - Famous Flippy's Sandwiches. Plenty of choices for everyone. The service is great, quick and attentive (Thank you, Vicki!) and the ambience is what I enjoy. Both are 5 stars!! Aside from some minor "issues" (and none that ruined the meal), I would suggest you stopping by, if you ever find yourself in Rodeo! read more

A delightful diner like atmosphere and with a full wall mural showing the history of Rodeo and with a lot of sports memorabilia covering the walls, I liked Flippys. Although this throwback to 1950s type diner is close to my home I felt I was on a road trip, so I ordered by favaroite on-the-road meal, an artery clogging chicken fried steak. They receive extra points for replacing the eggs with sliced tomatoes. Despite the gravy being a bit bland I would order it again, because I enjoyed sitting at the counter, felt like I was on a mini vacation and also the service was friendly. read more

The 2 times that I've been here with my boyfriend it has been real good! The portions are just enough and not too over whelming nor too little. The surroundings of the restaurant have a lot of Giants and Niner memorabilia. As a SF Giants fan I LOVE how they put the LA Dodgers posters near the bathroom because they are sh!t! Moving on... This is a typical "greasy spoon" diner with good American fare. Very friendly service from what I assume is the couple that owns the place, dad at the grill and mom at the register. Helpful, cheery and fast service. I will continue to support this place as a local small business, but not a place I'd take my out of town guests. I had an omelette and pancakes. They were both good diner fare, the pancakes probably the better of the two - light, airy and tasty. Plus, they use real butter and not greasy margarine to butter the cakes. The Denver omelette used fresh ingredients and was passable. I didn't try the hash browns as I'm not a fan in general. Sorry to say we will Never go back there, service was slow and when we did get our food it was cold. I ordered waffle delight-my waffle I swear was 1/2 inch thick looked like a eggo box frozen one, it was stone COLD the butter wouldn't even melt, I asked for a new one she said she had to ask the cook-he actually put it in the microwave to warm it! It then was really nasty! I left it on the plate. When we went to pay the owner said "well you ate the egg and bacon so I'm charging you for that". Which is fine because I do not expect anything for free But you would think after our breakfast was totally ruined they would make it right. A Greasy Spoon without the Grease. Flippy's does what a diner SHOULD do and make perfectly medium eggs without all the grease. My wife got an omelette and it was healthy and light and not greasy. The prices are reasonable too. Overall glad we found this little gem. read more

I was starving and desperate for a classic breakfast before heading to Yosemite. Flippy's came up and I couldn't help but give the memorabilia laden spot a shot. So happy I did! I am a sucker for a good corned beef hash; nothing fancy, just griddle it up with some scrambled eggs and keep the coffee coming. Flippy's did not disappoint. This place is what one would expect for this area. The groceries are not high quality, the sausage and bacon have that dreaded discount grocer aftertaste but the eggs and coffee were just fine. My brother and I ordered the waffle breakfast (waffles, two eggs, two link sausages, and two pieces of bacon) and hash browns last Sunday. The Food: The waffles were great! Light, fluffy with a crunch. The only thing I would take note of is the size of the actual waffle since it is incredibly thin especially when you compare it to those served at other restaurants. The rest of our meal was very standard, nothing special about it. +3 stars The service: I think this is where they truly excel and why I added that extra .5 star to my rating. Our waiter, who I'm pretty sure was the owner, was very welcoming and attentive. It felt more like we were eating at my auntie's house more than it did at a restaurant, making our experience there more enjoyable. It was a definite pleasure being there! I'm going to be straight forward here. Chances are if you are reading this review from across the bridge, you will never visit Flippy's. It's just too out of the way for you and your zip car to travel. Even when SF tourist visiting Port Costa ask me where they can get a good breakfast to nurse their hangover, they give me a blank look when I say "Flippy's in Rodeo." One chick turned away from me annoyed, slipped on her I'm-still-drunk sunglasses, and said to her friend "uhhh, there's no breakfast here..." Seriously. It's not that far to drive up the 80 West, exit Willow 3 mins later and make a right. All your Sunday morning pewky regrets will be solved in no time. If you're a romantic couple visiting from out of town, you will enjoy ordering an OJ, holding hands sitting in the retro decor like "Jack and Diane." For years, you two will recall your brief stay-cation, repeating in front of your grandchildren "remember when we stayed in that cool hotel in Port Costa, got coffee in their quaint cafe in the lobby then ate a big breakfast in that dinner from the 70's?" But I guess we can't go out of our way, another 6 miles, to be bothered for such experiences. If I haven't made a case for your Instagram profile, then at least consider the cheap menu of eggs, and pancakes. The staff is nice, the food is good and, again, it's cheap. I had a great experience here with my family, on a quiet Monday morning. The woman who was helping us was incredibly attentive, and helpful, especially with my toddler. The food here was tasty and affordable as well (your typical breakfast fare). What I enjoyed most about seeing in this place are the regulars who spend their time here with their newspapers and friends. A great local space, that gives space for the locals. If you're looking for a traditional American breakfast and nothing fancy, this is the place for you. The menu consists of normal breakfasts such as 2 eggs with bacon, sausage, and toast. I had the french toast delight and my boyfriend had the chili omelette. The hash browns were probably the best I've ever had. My french toast was tasty, and I finished everything on my plate. I came in on a Sunday morning at about 11 and the place was packed. Good sign...so I thought. We took a seat at the counter. It was between five and ten minutes before we got water and coffee. The waitress was pleasant but overwhelmed. The couple nice next to us shared their creamer because they noticed we needed some. Soon an older gentleman came in, a regular. He says the food is good and the service is usually much better. We wait about 10 minutes before our order is taken. I know this because of the giant clock above us that was running ten minutes fast. Our food doesn't arrive until about 40 minutes after we sat down. My biscuits, gravy, two scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon were okay. The biscuit was covered in a mound of thick gravy that hid the fact that the biscuit itself was tiny. The price was reasonable. My husband had the chili omelette, which was also just okay. The restaurant itself is a no frills, friendly spot, decorated with a mural of Rodeo, featuring the San Pablo Bay, fishermen and the logos of local businesses. There are plenty of Giants decorations and sports memorabilia. Flippy's seems like a nice family spot. I want to support local businesses so I'll try it again to give them a second chance. read more

The BF and I each got the pancake delight and shared a side of hash browns. My eggs were perfect, though the pancakes were thinner/denser than I prefer. I've been coming to Flippys since 2000! I would come with my grandparents every weekend. It was a tradition. It's the only time they would let my brother have chili cheese fries and chili cheese curly fries for breakfast! Vicki & Joe have basically watched me grow over the past 13 years, and they have always been amazing with the customer service! I've never bad one bad experience there. The food is good, and the people there are great. Now that I have a little girl now, I take her there and it's by far her favorite place to go! I like Flippy's out in Rodeo and given that it is the only breakfast place there I better. Just like the "Hobee's" restaurants down south on the peninsula, if you plan to eat here, you better get there early because they close early. This is a breakfast place that caters to locals but just because Rodeo is literally "the middle of nowhere" it wouldn't hurt for the rest of us to stop in, now and again. Just follow San Pablo Ave. all the way out and you are there. The breakfast is basic but they do have root beer and orange freezes which I particularly enjoy. The decor and interior is homey, rustic and has a small-town kind of feel. "Flippy's" is family run and the owners are nice people. read more

Flippy's makes it as my 200th review! Been here maybe three times in the past and the breakfast and lunch is pretty good and staff has been always friendly. I gave up meat for Lent so last time I was here, I ordered a grilled cheese (cheddar) sandwich (must be sourdough). It's the most simple thing on the menu but sooooo delicious! And the fries came out perfectly crisp. This would be my go to spot if I was craving a grilled cheese. I would add another star if they served the grilled cheese with a creamy tomato soup. Recently ate here for breakfast. Ordered pancakes (3) and sausage patties. I loved the pancakes which came out hot and fluffy. The melted butter added to it's delishousness.The sausage patties were off the hook. It had some spicy kick to it. The only thing lacking was some toast. My brother had the french toast. Looked good. He ordered a side of hash-browns extra crispy. It looked like it came out too crispy. I have been here before and am now just reviewing this place because of it's pancakes.
