If you're looking for an old school, back to the basics breakfast experience, Flippy's is the place to go. I frequent Flippy's every Saturday morning. My kids love their pancakes. There are usually 1-2 waitresses working and 1 cook. You'll need to be patient but know that they are working hard and they have a good, organized system down that seems to work. The atmosphere is very small, calm and welcoming. The restroom and restaurant in general is very clean and organized. The waitress handles takeout/dine-in orders simultaneously and she does it very well. She's never been rude and I've always been understanding if she's tending to seated guests upon my arrival. There is no electronic ordering system at Flippy's to my knowledge, she writes all orders down and calculates them on a calculator just like we did a couple years back. They do offer an array of payment options which is nice. I don't mind the short staffing, I'm super understanding to the hit that all small business have taken during this Covid pandemic. Flippy's customer service and food has not wavered and that speaks volumes. Their food honestly isn't the best, but it isn't the worst. I've tried quite a few things and I stick to the pancakes and a patty melt if it's lunch time. This cute little diner full of sports memorabilia has been in the area for years! FYI the parking lot only has four spots, but there's tons of street parking. The staff was very friendly and walls around to fill up your coffee and water. No need to ask, they're on it. I ordered the mushroom and cheese omelette which comes with toast and hashbrowns. Updated review. Since we loved Flippy's the last time on our way from Napa to SFO we stopped again. Another great breakfast with great service (coffee & tea were always refilled), and great food. We had the half delight (sausage links, egg over easy and French toast) and a plate of French toast. The French toast was so delicious and perfectly cooked. The egg over easy was also perfectly cooked. This has become our new stop after visiting family in Napa on our way to the airport. If I lived in the area I would be here every week. Flippy''s has a down home comfort feel, that welcomes you as soon as you walk in the door. Definitely worth the stop. read more

I think this update is long overdue. This cafe is probably one, if not the only, best thing of Rodeo. The earlier, the better like maybe after 7:30am church. They have a lengthy menu with breakfast and lunch items (they close at 2p). This place is also very portion cautious, meaning they offer half orders which is convenient. The staff are very friendly and you can tell they get well acquainted with their regulars knowing their orders and making casual conversation. Great place for a quick bite, but come early. The waitresses were constantly coming to my table to refill my coffee cup and to ask me if I needed anything. It was a great experience. You walk in, grab a seat at the counter and order an unlimited cuppa coffee along with a typical plate of bacon and eggs. Everything diner-y is here except the mini jukeboxes at the tables. Flippy's does have plenty of sports pennants to show SF pride. My wife and I take a seat at the counter. A cheerful waitress welcomes us and pours two coffees. She brings out a dish with those small half & half containers. I use about 6 per cup. For my entire life, I've seen these mini sizes, do they make an XL size? I want more cream than the size of a thimble! I see "Linquisa" on the menu. I ask, what is Linquisa?? Oh it's Italian sausage. I mean, I'm from New York. I'm Italian. I don't ever remember anyone saying, go to the store, we're out of Linquisa! This is plate comes with two eggs, hash browns and Linquisa sausage. Think of Chorizo, it wouldn't be too far off. First, the negatives: when ordering soft drinks, expect them to bring you a large size Coke or whatever and charge you $3.50 each. If you're with someone, just contemplate that you have already spent $7.00 on drinks. And there is a small 2.50 size on those drinks; it's just easier for them to write "$3.50 x 2" on the bill. Just say no. Matter of fact, just say no to the Cokes altogether. You really come to Flippy's, open for breakfast and lunch; they close at 2. And from what I saw, it is literally a Mom and Pop establishment, a very 70s formica and vinyl chair kind of place. Mom runs the tables and the front while harried is manning the grill. That's it. Service? Well, the server came and kindly warned us that a big table had just ordered in front of us and to expect a slight delay. I ordered the bacon burger ($13.95) with a salad (I eschewed the otherwise excellent fries, which I was trying to steal off my companion's plate); my companion has the mushroom burger and fries. A Coke and a root beer. They brought out my salad well before my burger and it was actually very good --fresh, crisp lettuce leaves, thin carrot sticks and a wallopingly good ranch dressing. This being a diner, they don't really mix the dressing per se, but thankfully they didn't just dump a cold load on top of a few lettuce leaves. Let's just say they kind of 'frosted' the leaves and I was able to mix it in pretty well. This was a salad I would come back for. The burgers were solid --really well executed, neatly stacked with the onions and pickles, bacon crispy. Will need to come back for breakfast soon read more

One of probably three places Hubbers and I chose from for brunch. All three of them had similar menus, but this took the W because the prices were a lot more reasonable than the other two. Plus we wanted something more traditional diner-ish type. It was about a 10 minute drive from home. We didn't really have trouble finding the spot, but we did kinda have trouble finding parking. (They only have about 4 spots which were all taken.) Luckily, we found street parking nearby. Walked in and it's a nice quaint place. It holds an old-school charm which I found strangely attractive. I felt like I was taken back to a different era. We were seated with menus immediately. We navigated through the menu quite easily as it is simple. Ordered the chicken fried steak (gravy on the side) with eggs over-medium and sourdough toast. Hubbers ordered the Chef's omelette (aka "the works.) Everything was made to order so it took a bit of time. (We waited about 20 minutes.) In the meanwhile, there were a lot of sport paraphernalia to look at - from the walls all the way up the ceilings. They are definitely supporters of all NorCal teams, from the Niners to the Giants. I also noticed there were a lot of locals here. Many of them spoke to and greeted the staff by their first names. That says a lot. My eggs were cooked perfect. The chicken fried steak was a pretty good size and was cooked to a good crunch. Paired it with the gravy and it was perfect. Neither one was too salty or too bland, it was exactly as I wanted it. Took a bite from Hubbers' omelette and yep. It should be called "the works" because different flavors were just burstin' all over the place! That was impressive. Prices were fair. Service was good. The staff is really nice and warm. My son and I love this place; we come here every Friday before he goes to school and before I head to work. The owners are very friendly and are very attentive. The place is small and quaint, a good family friendly place. Vicky always take our orders and by the third time around, she already knows my son's order, Petite Plate, sunny side up with bacon, sourdough bread with hot chocolate on the side. She also knows my usual order. She is very attentive because I do not have to call her when I need something, she comes often and checks my coffee, asks whether we need anything else. The food is fairly decent; with the price, I won't complain. Point is, service is exceptional and food is good! read more

From the city of San Pablo, I am sure I have driven past Rodeo on the freeway a million times but this was my first time actually driving within city boundaries. I wanted to try a new brunch plus as options for going out for a proper American breakfast are limited in the San Pablo/Richmond area and Yelp took me there. This place definitely has an old-school feel and once you sit down you feel like you are in one of those diners you see in old films where the sheriff walks in to get coffee...I was greeted immediately and told to sit anywhere and the staff was extremely kind and attentive. The food: I opted for the Veggie Omelet but it was too dry. I didn't realize it didn't have cheese on it when ordering but cheese definitely would have helped. They allow you to substitute pancakes for toast as a side and they give you 3 LARGE PANCAKES! They come around often to fill up your coffee and it is typical diner drip coffee (if you only drink Philz/Blue Bottle this is not your place). Price: Definitely more reasonably priced in comparison to other options in the area. I think I paid around 13 bucks before tip as opposed to the typical $17-18 I normally spend. read more

Flippy's Cafe has been around only since 1986, but feels like it's older. It's a very good place for Rodeo. People from Southern California would probably think of Beverly Hills when they see that there's a town called Rodeo, and this town is very much NOT like that drive in the Golden Triangle. More rough-and-tumble and blue-collar. Yep, Flippy's fits right in. I don't know if Rodeo is wild about sports. But Flippy's owners are. Lots of pics of every pro sports team in the Bay Area: 49ers, A's, Raiders, Giants. Some memorabilia from the last 50 years. And if you don't care for sports, you can always look at the mural above the kitchen, which shows many historical businesses that were or are still in Rodeo. Nice. Flippy's is for the meat-and-potatoes crowd. Lunch is mostly burgers and meaty sandwiches, with some other beauties thrown in. Such as a chili dog, which I had. It was a good-sized doggie smothered in chili, onions, and cheese, taking up half the oblong plate, with chili fries taking up the other half. Thankfully, they provided the silverware. It was all tasty, even the fries, and I'm hard to please with fries. Overall, Flippy's is a comfortable oldish diner, the kind of place where locals would come regularly and become friends with the staff, ordering the same old thing every time and always enjoying it. Great breakfast diner, I've been coming here regularly since my friend introduced me about 7 years back. I drive here for breakfast from Alameda at least once a month and never have been disappointed. From the friendly waitresses to the fresh food, I always leave here with a smile and full belly. I can't pick a plate that's my favorite because everything I've tried has been fresh and delicious. Note that waffles are only available until noon. My boyfriend is a big fan of the corned beef hash plate as he says it reminds him of how his grandfather used to make it which just added to the warmth of this place to us. The ambience is cozy and although it seems most the staff is a Giants/Niner fan, I love that our favorite waitress likes the A's/Raiders like us haha. I've also tried their burgers and sandwiches and they are sooo good and juicy. The only semi complaint is that they're super busy on the weekends sometimes and since it's a smaller establishment there could be a wait but nonetheless it's worth it to me. read more

I would give Flippy's 10 stars :-) if possible. We tried Flippy's for the first time on our way back to the Bay, after spending the weekend in Yountville for a wedding. After a serious night of celebration, we were in a hurry to watch the Giants game and needed an awesome breakfast to finish off our mini vacation. We decided to stop on the way home, somewhere. Introduce Flippy's!! We were excited when we came across the small cafe and extremely pleased with our experience. My boyfriend was wearing a Giants jersey, and so was everyone else who worked there! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The walls are adorned with sports memorabilia - fun to admire during our brief wait for breakfast. We ordered french toast & the breakfast burrito. Before our food arrived, we received a surprise "SF" appetizer. All of the food was delicious. We were impressed with their food & service, so we left a $13 tip.
