Food was pretty good!!! Prices are higher than you'd expect but it's super clean and fancy inside. Our waitress was extremely accommodating and patient and took the time to explain everything we had questions about on the menu. Although I did ask for the biggest sized and most tender steak and was recommended one of the toughest and smallest ones I don't recommend the kc striploin especially if you like it medium well. The Delmonico was OUTSTANDING and super flavorful and tender, perfectly cooked to medium well. Smoked salmon and crab dip wasn't the greatest and the bread could've been crisper, as they were too soft to dip ,but the shrimp cakes were to die for! My wife and I ate at Flame 3 weeks ago on trip to the midwest. We returned this past week for a family funeral and tried to make reservations. We left 3 messages requesting a reservation and did not receive a return call. This was very disappointing since we recommended the restaurant to 16 family members who were going to join us for dinner. No return phone call?? Very unprofessional. My fiancé took me here on our first date, and with him being a chef and me not used to fancy restaurants, I was really looking forward to it. The atmosphere was very intimate and perfect for a date, first or hundredth. The food was wonderful. It impressed my chef, which is hard to do sometimes, because knowing so much about food can cause dining out to not be such a great experience ~ always critical. We always seem to try to crab cake, salmon cake, or in Flame's case, the shrimp cake everywhere we go ~ on a mission to try them all I guess. And Flame has a great one. The filet medallions were excellent, which we expected, and I am a fan of creamed spinach, so this one didn't disappoint. Had a reservations for a Saturday night anniversary dinner and were seated in the Red Room. The red room is not very nice, has a sports bar feel, and felt dull. We were absolutely over dressed for this room and felt uncomfortable. Would be nice if a restaurant could at least have set a basic dress code. We'll not sit down there again. On a positive note our waitress, Allyissa, was great and very attentive. Food: shrimp cocktail was excellent, Belle Glos Pinot was fantastic, KC strip was slightly overdone, filet medallions were dry and overdone, twice baked potatoes were great, apple crisp was very good. Ate here with colleagues while on a business trip (probably wouldn't have gone if I was paying on my own dime). The setting and decor is really yuppy (not really my style, but some people are into that. Definitely unexpected for Springfield, in comparison to all the other restaurants we went to). They take your jacket for you, there's water running down the walls, and the lighting is dimmed. I had the bistro medallions (what caught my eye was the "wrapped in sugar bacon"). Oh man, it was good. My meal was better than my colleagues' steaks. The sides are pretty big portions. They serve good bread in the beginning - they gave us both mini cupcakes (yes, like dessert!), and "regular" pre-dinner bread. The waiter was able to answer all of our questions, about the food and the drinks. He provided some good recommendations for drinks also. Recently came here to celebrate my little brothers 22nd birthday. Flame has been around in Springfield, MO for as long as I can remember. It's one of the top places to get a delicious steak that's well aged. I've only been to Flame once before this time and it hasn't changed a whole lot, which is nice. Their menu items are classic, consistent and quality. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgable on the menu as well as any questions we had concerning the steak. My brothers girlfriend and I don't eat steak on the regular so we had quite a few questions. We both wanted a flavorful, lean steak so he recommended either the filet mignon or the sirloin. We both decided upon the 12 oz sirloin. Everyone at our table ended up ordering steak, with the exception of two surf and turfs. At Flame, you really don't go for a pasta dish. It is a well-known Steak House like Ruth's Chris. These people take steak seriously! I would also highly encourage to ask your waiter for a wine pairing with your meal, as he/she will most likely be knowledgable and have a great recommendation. The waiters at Flame are highly trained in wine and beverage pairings. The sides at Flame are fantastic, some of my favorites include the potato lyonnaise, steamed broccoli with olive oil and lemon (yes, their broccoli is fantastic) as well as the flash fried asparagus tossed in salt, pepper and served with a house made hollandaise. On our recent visit to Flame I tried a bite of everyone's steak at the table and I would have to say my favorite was my father's, who ordered the Porterhouse. It was perfectly cooked, with just the right ratio of meat to fat. I highly recommend this cut of meat. It is a bit on the pricy side, but you're sure to have quite a few leftovers for later. If you end up getting the sirloin, don't make the same mistake I did. Order it medium-rare. I ordered it medium and it was a tad on the tough side. Order it medium-rare. Ambience is romantic, calm, and inviting. Perfect place for date night, birthdays, special family event, or anniversary. Be well prepared to drop a few dollars here. Staff I interacted with - the lady who took my order over the phone and the bartender who settled my bill - was all very friendly. The mussels were flavorful and came with the fluffiest sourdough bread bowl ever! If I didn't know there's a gluten heaven, I now know. Of course, I had to try the lobster mac 'n cheese and was pleasantly surprised at the lobster flavor. One area Flame could pay more attention to is cutting back on the salt. It was our first time at Flame! We went Downstairs to the red room and wow, certainly not disappointed. It was our 11 yr anniversary. The aged tbone steak was the most tender steak I've ever eaten. Add fried oysters and lobster spinach dip with an ending of creme brulee and it was the prefect celebration of taste! Our server Maddy guided us through the whole experience with ease, elegance and a wonderful personality that makes us want to come back for more just to have her serve us again. Without a doubt the best calamari I have ever had. Very different but they use the thinker, more meat. Shaped like fingers but oh do good. Steak was great, their style is it crisp up the outer skin and moist inside. Not my favorite style, but it is what they say and if that style is yours you would give it a five. We came here as a group, so my experience differs from the dinning room. The group events manager was great to work with and the private room was really nice, with it's own entrance, bar, and bathroom. I came late on appetizers and none were really standouts to me. I would've liked to try more of the mussels but they seemed difficult to deal with the way served. I like lots of broth and I didn't see a serving spoon. Staff seemed really nice and totally ready to help at all times. The steaks were really really good. The potato was huge. I'm not really a potato person, but it seemed dry. The asparagus was funny as there were only three spears. Most of us are pretty healthy eaters and would have much rather had more asparagus, but it wasn't that big a deal. There were desserts, mini-ones, served to each as an assortment. I don't really remember any as spectacular, but it was nice. Back to the steak. Food is almost always great and if you're unhappy with what you ordered then they're very understandable and eager to get you something better to make sure your experience is good. Not going to lie, definitely have had a few experiences where the waitress had clearly indulged in a few too many drinks or the food wasn't as great as normal but overall this is still one of my favorite restaurants in town. Flame is an unexpected treasure in a small college town, similar to Knoxville where I attended school. I arrived there after a long drive from Denver. Surprisingly, the incredibly knowledgeable and professional young lady behind the bar was also from Colorado. She was attentive and sheer perfection throughout the entire interaction. She displayed this knowledge by articulating the differences between the oysters, which I partook. They were served after the escargot appetizer with perfect timing. She was also knowledgeable about the wine and ideal pairings. I am unsure when I will return to Springfield, MO. However, when I do, I will certainly make a trip to have the oysters at Flame. read more

Flame is a long time favorite of ours. We go at least 2-3 times a month. The service is always outstanding. The restaurant is great for special occasions, but relaxed enough for every day dining, too. The Red Room bar in the basement has a neat vibe and a glass case there shows the steaks dry aging. The drink menu rotated frequently and are always good. It's a great place to grab a casual dinner, too. The wine list is thoughtful and extensive. The dry aged steaks are excellent, as is the seafood. The bone-in prime filet is best of a fine line-up. Don't miss the features! Last weekend I had the Farm 44 bone-in strip loin feature and it was terrific! The ahi tuna is my favorite of the seafood selections. King crab legs are also great. Appetizers are varied and top notch. The mushroom sage soup is not to missed, it's the best soup I've had anywhere. The steak tartare is outstanding. We get the fried portabello appetizer every time we go. If you want a delicious quick meal the sliders and smoked fries can't be beat. Salads are also very good. I prefer the wedge and my wife always gets the garbage salad. Meals are also served with classic popovers and different flavors of mini muffins that are irresistible! I went here with dear friends for a fun night out with good food and were weren't disappointed. The ambience of the "red room" is nice and it is a lot brighter than we thought. Getting into the downstairs room can be a bit of a challenge for people with physical limitations as the staircase is fairly steep, but once we got there seating was very nice. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive with a friendly and professional demeanor. The absolute highlight, however, was the food. The filet mignon was delicious, grilled to the spot and absolutely fabulous. I was a little bit disappointed by the lobster mac and cheese, but in all fairness that's just my expectations and complaining on a very high level - if I had not had the most amazing lobster mac and cheese at a Fleming's in Phoenix a while ago, this would have been the best I ever had! Overall, Flame is a pricy but absolute great place to eat and enjoy a good wine (their selection of international wine is impressive!). A definite recommendation! read more

I can't say enough about this restaurant. From the time we entered to the time we left, it was fabulous. The hostess seated us upstairs for the best view. The seats were comfortable and the table was set. Our waiter recommended a Mt Brave wine and they had the Veuve champagne we requested on ice when we arrived. The appetizers, steamed/raw oysters, calamari, and the Escargot was amazing! The bacon and lemon flavor with the mushrooms was dynamite. Now let's talk about the steak. I had the filet and my goodness the crust on the outside has so much flavor it was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection with a perfect medium rare. The popovers were also outstanding with the salt and butter. Everything was amazing. I was in town for a work trip but will definitely keep this place on my list for the next visit. Got there a few minuets early and they said it'll be about 5-10 minuets until our table is ready, no big deal. Been here several times and it is usually a 4.5. Tonight a little lower. Must have been an off night. In fact given the price, Texas Roadhouse May have been a better choice. Martinis were top notch. However wife's had to be remade as waiter spotted a floater. I ordered the MT Veder which is an excellent Cab. They were out so went for the house Malbec which was good Starters. Wife had the portobello and I had the blue cheese lettuce wedge. The portobello except for one went home to doggles. Looked and tasted like something from Sams. Wedge was good but a little shy on crumbs and heavy on dressing. Bread which was usually excellent was cold. Would have ask for a replacement but waiter did not return until the entire. Steaks were well prepared and flavorful. However comparing the bone in rib eye at TX Roadhouse with the rib eye here they were similar. The service usually makes up for the difference, but it was an off night. The saving of this visit was dessert. The Apple Crisp was excellent when accompanied by a fine glass of port. I had an absolutely fantastic steak at Flame. I ordered the 14oz bone in ribeye and it was cooked perfectly. Flame reminds me of Gibson's in Chicago, they both utilize 1500 degree ovens that make a wonderful seared crust on the outside and a juicy interior. For sides we went with the flavorful asparagus, the yummy cheddar jalepeno mashed potatoes, and the dont miss out...fried Portabellos, dont miss them! Our server was friendly and welcoming even though we arrived within the last hour of closing on a Saturday night. Can't say enough good things about the wine list with an excellent selection not found in larger cities. Had the rib-eye which was cooked perfectly to my liking. The calamari and portobello mushrooms were amazing appetizers. I was visiting from the Chicago area, so the prices were not unreasonable for a steakhouse with premium wines. We'd stopped in Springfield before and found the Flame almost by accident. This trip we literally planned around having dinner here twice (on our way and return). Our first visit, this trip was on a Wednesday. We'd made reservations as it was my wife's birthday which, turned out to be a very good thing as they had a large number of big parties. There are 3 levels. The upper is a catwalk above the main dining room. Stairs only. Most of the place has low ceilings. It's a dark space with an open kitchen. The tables are mostly well lit. There's a lower lever; The Red Room. It's open seating; full menu. Stairs only. We were seated on the main floor. Our server, Jim (always ask for him!) was a true professional. Attentive, but not obtrusive. Friendly, engaging and well informed. The Flame is a steakhouse. If you aren't looking for a steak; this isn't your place. I'm sure everything is good, but it's a steak place. Nobody goes to a Japanese restaurant for lasagna. I had a ribeye and my wife had a filet. Both prepared perfectly and were very tasty. She opted for the twice baked potato which was tasty and ample. She also had the asparagus with hollandaise. Delicious. I had the potatoes lyonnaise...tasty and imaginative. Better than the very best French fries! Thin sliced potatoes flash fried with onions and garlic. Ample. Menu is ala'carte and pricing is commensurate with the quality of food. Potatoes (sides) are all included, in any form. Vegetables, etc. are an up-charge and, at least with the asparagus, not really shareable. That's a bit of a miss. Most steakhouses, in our experience, make their sides ample enough to share. Since it was my wife's birthday, the creme brûlée was comped and was very good. Shareable. I ordered decaf with dessert and was served a cup well before dessert arrived and well after. Again, a bit of a miss, but seemed to be an issue with our back-waiter, not our server, Jim. Three days later we returned. We'd given Jim the heads-up, so our table was waiting and he greeted us with our drinks...nice touch! My wife had the sea bass chowder and I had a Caesar salad on this visit...I know what I just said about it being a steak place, but neither of us was terribly hungry and we'd already made the reservation and told a Jim we'd be in, so such is life. The chowder was different and delightful. Very few potatoes (an issue for me with most chowder) and the Caesar was perfect! We opted for the creme brûlée, again. Perfect. They caramelize it table side, which is a nice touch. Drinks are ample and reasonably priced (Kettle - rocks 7.5). We'll be back! read more

This place is great The business associate and I flew into Springfield about 10 minutes before they closed and we called, they let us put an order in so we walked in 2 minutes before closing and actually ate dinner there. If you want special drinks make sure Michael their bartender is working he was phenomenal he knew how to make a vesper martini and put himself in a very very small group of very talented bartenders. We went back tonight for another drink and the service is just phenomenal. They're very personable they're all about their customers and they really set them selves apart. Was in town and thought I'd try out a new place for me. Flame is wanting to be a premiere high end steakhouse for Springfield. With that goal comes great responsibility. A continued focus on the HIGHEST quality of product and execution. Execution by both front and back of the house. Upon entering the hostess stand is controlled by 1 person. The hostess is one of the more important positions in a successful restaurant. This position provides the first impression of the dining experience. First impressions can be difficult to recover from. As I entered the restaurant the hostess was on the phone and no recognition of my presence was provided until she got off the phone a couple of minutes later. An attempt to seat me at the bar for my dining experience was provided. Not my cup of tea if I'm going to spend $70+ for my meal. I was accommodated when I asked to seat elsewhere. I was greeted a couple of minutes later and was asked if I wanted anything else to drink besides the water that was being provided. I enquired about a wine and a taste was provided. When inquiring about how long the wine had been opened the server wasn't sure but gave a best guess instead. I ordered my wine along with my entree choice. Salad - The wedge was served and oxidation (browning) was present. The plate used was room temp. The blue cheese dressing had no flavor of blue cheese. It's predominate flavor was sour cream (part base ingredient). The blue cheese crumble was light in flavor (which could indicate older product). Main Entree - The filet was cooked perfectly (medium rare) but over seasoned with salt which masked the delicate flavor a filet provides. The twice baked potato, although flavorful would have been much better if it was warmer. Dessert - Coffee was served at 116 degrees (160-170 is best serving temp 180 being brewing temp). Creme Brulee presented table side to be torched at the table is a nice showpiece for presentation but proper execution is important if table side service is provided. Unfortunately the turbinado sugar was not properly caramelized. I didn't enjoy chewing on turbinado crystals. There was NO sign of actual vanilla bean being used (most likely vanilla extract used) to make this custard dish. Overall the meal wasn't the best. The dining experience was ok. My constructive criticism was expressed to the floor manager who seemed appreciative of my observations and she stated she would pass my experience on to the chef. The bill was presented and was not accurate. I clearly stated to the manager that I wanted to pay for everything that I ordered as I didn't want anything comp'ed. I give constructive criticism for the improvement of the establishment and not to get anything in return. After having the server correct the bill, I paid and left. I was thanked on my way out thusly ending my experience. Overall "Flame" is a good restaurant but if they truly want to be a cut above, the entire staff needs to focus on providing the best quality of products and services available. I will go back and give them another try in the future. read more
