At breakfast with eggs, hash browns and toast and at dinner with a baked potato and coleslaw. The steak itself was cooked to medium perfectly. It was tender, juicy with just enough fat to satisfy my inner carnivore (mmm, yes, meat good). Hash browns were crispy, sourdough toast was buttered perfection. My baked potato was tender and came with butter and sour cream on the side so I could fix it myself. Relaxing and family-friendly atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the Country Benedict with hash browns. The hash browns were crispy and flavorful, and the gravy was rich, creamy, and delicious. We also ordered the steak and eggs. Although we requested the steak cooked medium, it arrived well done, and the meat lacked flavor. Stopped here while visiting Springfield and ordered the Steak skillet that came with a side of pancakes. Not even 5 minutes after I placed my order, it was sitting right in front of me! I can't believe I'm admitting this, but the pancakes were actually some of the best I've had in a long time. The inside of the building is a little older, but it feels like home. We had reserved their spacious private room in the back, which easily accommodates 30-40 people--plenty of room for everyone to sit comfortably without feeling crowded. The staff couldn't have been friendlier; they handled our large party with genuine warmth and efficiency, making sure drinks were refilled promptly and orders came out hot. The service is usually very quick, even for larger groups. I have yet to have anything I didn't like on breakfast. Their food comes out hot and fresh, and usually very fast. The TVs inside are a nice touch, and the place is always clean. The space is homely and slightly outdated in some areas, but then again I'm not coming in for the atmosphere. This is not your usual generic, wore out Southern Catfish Fry (a fine treat but...). It's Friday and Ziggie's is offering AYCE Walleye. Walleye? Are you kidding me? Typically I have to to Minnesota or Canada (called Pickerel up North, eh?) to just hear a story about this marvelous treat. Walleye, IMHO, has a firm, white flesh that is as sweet as maple syrup (ok, exaggerating) but it makes Cafish/Tilapia taste like used motor Ziggie's presents their Walleye as 2 enormous filets, lightly breaded in a delicate batter resembling Panko coating. The chefs in the back cook it just right - beautiful to look at amd even better to taste. Each bite melts in your mouth with a subtle hint of brown sugar and butter but that's just how Walleye taste to me. These people do it RIGHT! I wanted to write this earlier but I could not stop wolfing these slabs of friend goodness long enough to write. I have demolished a small school of fish now, so wanted to share. They close at 2030 hours (8:30 PM). I have no idea if this is a daily/seasonal thing. Apologies. If their sign shows AYCE Walleye, turn in immediately and strap on a feed bag. This meal is not for the faint of heart. If you are novice fish fry beginner or an accomplished gourmand - you can thank me later by visiting. P.S. they have proper malt vinegar, homemade coleslaw that will make ur heart skip a beat, and homemade tartar sauce. Excuse me, going to try the Pecan Pie. Stop in for yourself. Service was great: efficient, courteous, and quick. I ordered a breakfast of scrambled eggs, corned beef hash and hash browns and wheat toast. My wife ordered a cheese omelet, fruit, and white toast. The wheat toast was certainly the whitest wheat bread I've ever seen! The toast in both our cases had the texture of toasted stale bread. The corned beef has seemed to be Hormel out of a can, certainly not home-made at the restaurant. Everything else, in both our cases, tasted fine. We did point out as we came to our tables that there was water on the floor near our seat, a safety hazard. Rather than mop or wipe it up, they simply put out a wet floor sign! As we were leaving, we noticed the same at a table near ours and they again, just put out a sign. From an ambiance perspective, I noticed the ceiling tiles at the cashier's desk (as you come in) had visible dust and dirt on them and my overall impression of the restaurant is that it was dingy. As you shiver and turn blue, wondering if they will find your body cryogenically frozen in a thousand years don't panic as you won't be there that long. You'll unquestionably get irritated and walk out in the next fifteen minutes or so after waiting to be seated, once you come to the conclusion nobody cares that you are there and you'll starve to death long before you are waited on. read more

'Have been going on here for years, mostly for breakfast, and have witnessed a steady decline in both service and quality of food. If you don't flag down the server, you get one cup of coffee. And you literally have to flag them down. They won't even look back at your table after they drop off your food until they bring the check. If you have drank your coffee down some by then, they may tell you that they'll bring more coffee. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. As far as the food, you can get your eggs undercooked AND burned at the same time. The bacon is so tough that by the time you cut it, the bacon and everything else on your plate is cold (couldn't have been very warm to begin with). If you're not cutting up your bacon, good luck biting through it. I've pretty much stopped eating at the Ziggy's on South Glenstone for the same reason. I guess I'll be looking for something other than the North Glenstone Ziggy's as well. read more

We're back in a food desert here in North Springfield! If wanting fresh healthy food makes me a food snob then so be it! Personally I would have given this place two stars but hubby had the steak and eggs and was satisfied. Good thing I was not too hungry so I decided to order the short stack, a good menu option since I can never eat three pancakes. But yikes - they couldn't even provide real butter so I ate them dry. (I always pass on syrup). The only reason we chose this place is because it was late and it was right next door to our hotel but had I read some of the other reviews about the cleanliness (lack of soap in the restroom which I hope has been rectified), I would have insisted on going farther to search for a place. read more

Ok so I was in Springfield for training for work and they gave us a per diam for dinner. I didn't want to blow it all, so my roommate and I decided to try this place since we both love chicken and the hotel shuttle driver said they have good chicken. It's a little diner type of place; a little dumpy but clean and everyone was super nice! We sat down and both of us zeroed I'm on the chicken fried chicken with two sides for $8.99. That's an awesome price! Plus I love saving money! Even better when food is delicious which it was! They brought out huge portions and man was it good stuff! Nothing fancy or gourmet, just fool ol' home cooking! The mac and cheese was creamy and the potatoes and gravy were perfect. The chicken was tender enough to cut with a fork. Wow!! Stopped in for dinner and ended with a wow. The food was amazing. I expected small town homemade comfort food (which I'm sure they have). But I ordered the smothered chicken. The salad was fresh and good, the roll was great so soft and fresh. But the star of the show was definitely the smothered chicken. So good and cooked to perfection. Our server was perfect also.
