    French dip

I've gone to this place for about 40 years....back when it was originally Steak & Ale..:.then they went bankrupt and changed to Jim's (he was the original GM to Steak & Ale. I'll be a bit of the homer for the place...as I love their salad bar. Now, they don't put the chunks of blue cheese in the blue cheese dressing...but it still has a great taste. And the options on the salad bar are all the same and just what you want. The food....like the prime rib etc...are generally good to pretty good. Now, that French dip....work get that...as it's so much bread compared to anything else in the sandwich. The au jus is not that great at all and some pre-fab stuff. When you go here....you won't be disappointed overall. But stick with the steaks, salad bar and soups are decent. Appetizers are decent.

Great food, service, and ambiance! That prime rib is amazing. The Mac and cheese I definitely wouldn't reccomend but all else was great!

For dinner on my last night in Springfield, I headed over to Jimm's for the prime rib special. I could not have been happier! Taking a seat at the bar, bartenders Laura (who bears a striking resemblance to Anna Kendrick), and Annalise were very attentive. Water and menus were brought without even asking, and they asked if I wanted any recommendations. I did not, as I had seen the prime rib special advertised elsewhere, and I am a huge fan of a good prime rib. Rubbed with garlic and onion powder and served with a burgundy au jus, I anticipated an ascent into heavenly realms. But first, wine and salad. I started with a glass of Primitivo and a wedge salad with bleu cheese and bacon crumbles, along with a loaf of freshly baked bread. As I was enjoying those, Laura took my order for an 8 oz. piece of prime rib ("As rare as you can find it," I asked) with a loaded baked potato. She recommended skillet mushrooms sautéed in red wine, and I happily accepted. The main course arrived and everything was delightful! The prime rib was excellent, and made even better by the au jus and the raw horseradish on the side. The loaded baked potato was also very tasty, as were the mushrooms (which I wound up sharing with another diner because the skillet was THAT generous). For dessert? Despite being tempted by the creme brûlée and others, I chose a second glass of Primitivo. All in, the bill was $61 plus change. A $15 tip for the excellent service I was provided and dinner was still in "bargain" territory. And the atmosphere was old-school steakhouse, with some retro vibe but everything kept up and well maintained. Jimm's has a wide range of beef and seafood offerings so, no matter what your preference, you'll like find something here to enjoy. Happy hour from 3 to 5, and excellent food and service all night long! Bon apetit!

If you're getting what they are known for, like surf and/or turf, you can't go wrong. I've been a few times and previously didn't order a steak. I was wrong and it was my own fault. This time I ordered a New York strip, loaded baked potato, and a Cesar salad. Everything was cooked/prepared perfectly. Everyone at our table loved their meals. We go here for my mom's birthday because she loved the lobster so much. Lots of GF/meatatarian options. The atmosphere is kind of old school; dark and moody, which isn't really my thing. But everything was nice and super clean so I can't complain. Service was a little slow. I don't blame our waitress, she was awesome. I think maybe she was taking care of too many tables. I plan on coming back cut all mom gift-giving days

LOUD AF on a Tuesday night with incredibly slow service…read more I like to eat in local places while we're on the road. Read about this place being historic with a beautiful bar and lovely tin ceiling. And that is all true. Walked in and could not believe how loud the single singer with an acoustic guitar was. There was a sound engineer, working a board, so he must've thought that level was OK. But you could not have a conversation at all. I was wishing for earplugs. When we first stepped in, I considered just looking at the carved mahogany bar and going somewhere else. But, we figured it should be fast and we could endure the cacophony for a short time. We were so wrong about it being fast. There was only one wait staff working that night, and she was also behind the bar. When she finally moseys over to us, she admitted she had forgotten all about us. She then took our drink order, and the drinks came quickly. But then she literally never came back to take a food order. Watched her go to all the other tables, watched her clean off the bar, watched her answer a phone call for a takeout order, and then I finally went up to the bar and asked her if we could put in a food order. Once the food was ordered it came out quickly. My husband's smashburger and candied pecan salad were both really delicious. I am a sucker for a local food item whenever I see it on the menu, and I made the mistake of ordering the cashew chicken poutine. The cashew sauce had zero flavor and was just overly salty. The chicken was fried very tough. At least the cheese curds were good. But I barely ate any of it. Nothing but regret about this choice.

I will not drag the competition, but Dublin's Pass was the clear winner. I won't use specifics, but you get so much more bang for your buck, purely from a financial aspect. Let me first say, the eggs arrive on a plate with a light breading that adds the perfect balance of crunch yet balanced with the soft egg. All brought to you with a mustard that is the perfect combination of pickled veg and punchy mustard. The meat was cooked perfectly. The combination between the meat, egg and mustard marry one another beautifully to lend to a flavor roller coaster in your mouth. What really sets these Scotch eggs apart is the attention to detail. They taste like they are meant for a flavor rollercoaster. Each element feels intentional. Whether you're a longtime Scotch egg lover or trying one for the first time, this restaurant sets the bar high. Simply put: these are the Scotch eggs other places should be aspiring. Eggs aside, we also had an order of the boneless wings. Not a hard thing to get right, but we had roasted garlic parmesan with garlic aioli, to die for. I am from out of town, and this place is absolutely a must. It will never not be on to do list.
