We try to eat at Jimm's every time we are in town. We went with friends last night and the food was wonderful as always. The salad bar was fresh and had a nice variety of options to build a wonderful salad. I could make a full meal there alone. Our server was prompt and our meals arrived quickly. DH is lactose intolerant and asked that his baked potato leave off all dairy. It was served with cheese on it but our server quickly brought him a replacement. Their steaks are cooked perfectly. My experience at Jim's Steakhouse & Pub was very enjoyable overall. The restaurant had a warm and comfortable atmosphere that made it feel relaxing and welcoming as soon as I walked in. The staff was polite and worked hard to make sure everything was taken care of, even though the wait for food was a little longer than expected. The steak was cooked well, full of flavor, and the portions were filling, which made the meal worth the wait. I also liked how calm and classic the restaurant felt because it made the dinner feel more special than an average night out. I've gone to this place for about 40 years....back when it was originally Steak & Ale..:.then they went bankrupt and changed to Jim's (he was the original GM to Steak & Ale. I'll be a bit of the homer for the place...as I love their salad bar. Now, they don't put the chunks of blue cheese in the blue cheese dressing...but it still has a great taste. And the options on the salad bar are all the same and just what you want. The food....like the prime rib etc...are generally good to pretty good. Now, that French dip....work get that...as it's so much bread compared to anything else in the sandwich. The au jus is not that great at all and some pre-fab stuff. Sever was not so knowledgeable about the menu.. maybe he was just having a bad day.. they sat four people at a 2 top to say it was cramped is an understatement it was mothers day so I understand them trying to make room but it was pretty uncomfortable! The stuffed peppers are very good! All of the different meals we tried were sub par. For this price go down the road to ocean zen try their Mongolian ribeye and thank me later! For dinner on my last night in Springfield, I headed over to Jimm's for the prime rib special. I could not have been happier! Taking a seat at the bar, bartenders Laura (who bears a striking resemblance to Anna Kendrick), and Annalise were very attentive. Water and menus were brought without even asking, and they asked if I wanted any recommendations. I did not, as I had seen the prime rib special advertised elsewhere, and I am a huge fan of a good prime rib. Rubbed with garlic and onion powder and served with a burgundy au jus, I anticipated an ascent into heavenly realms. But first, wine and salad. I started with a glass of Primitivo and a wedge salad with bleu cheese and bacon crumbles, along with a loaf of freshly baked bread. As I was enjoying those, Laura took my order for an 8 oz. piece of prime rib ("As rare as you can find it," I asked) with a loaded baked potato. She recommended skillet mushrooms sautéed in red wine, and I happily accepted. The main course arrived and everything was delightful! The prime rib was excellent, and made even better by the au jus and the raw horseradish on the side. The loaded baked potato was also very tasty, as were the mushrooms (which I wound up sharing with another diner because the skillet was THAT generous). For dessert? Despite being tempted by the creme brûlée and others, I chose a second glass of Primitivo. All in, the bill was $61 plus change. A $15 tip for the excellent service I was provided and dinner was still in "bargain" territory. And the atmosphere was old-school steakhouse, with some retro vibe but everything kept up and well maintained. Jimm's has a wide range of beef and seafood offerings so, no matter what your preference, you'll like find something here to enjoy. If you're getting what they are known for, like surf and/or turf, you can't go wrong. I've been a few times and previously didn't order a steak. I was wrong and it was my own fault. This time I ordered a New York strip, loaded baked potato, and a Cesar salad. Everything was cooked/prepared perfectly. Everyone at our table loved their meals. We go here for my mom's birthday because she loved the lobster so much. Lots of GF/meatatarian options. The atmosphere is kind of old school; dark and moody, which isn't really my thing. First time eating at Jimm's for our anniversary. Very young hostesses. Hostess did not appreciate our humor when she sat us at table 69. We asked if the booths next to us were available instead of a table. She said they were reserved but would check and come back. She never did come back. We found out they weren't reserved. I ordered the special which was a strip steak smothered with onions and bell mushrooms over mashed potatoes. Husband ordered the bourbon strip steak. We were both very disappointed at the steaks. Haven't been to Jimm's for a while and I told my wife, let's go to Jimm's for prime rib. We got there and had a round of drinks with my mother in law and then shortly afterward, we were seated. The waiter took the order and said that the prime rib was running a little rare and he would check back with us after a while but he never did. We ordered 3 prime rib dinners (check #279) medium rare and when they showed up, they were as close to raw as you could get and so tough you couldn't chew them and when the waiter did finally come back, we told him about it and also that we didn't get the wine that we ordered. He went and got the bill and the to go boxes, but didn't offer any assistance, like he was afraid to speak to the chef about it. We paid the bill, over $200 for the 3 of us and took our to go boxes and left. The next night, my wife tried to add a little more cooking time to the meat but it was still so tough that it was not edible. The experience was not good as the waiter acted offended and really copped an attitude with us after us politely voicing our disapproval. I told him that this really wasn't his fault as much as it was the chef's, but I would say that this was probably the worst prime rib I had ever had. read more

Jimm's has the absolute best salad bar. Weird, for a steakhouse, right? Not at all. It's delicious. I could literally go and just get the salad bar as my meal. They keep it clean, tidy, and well-stocked. There's always someone checking it and tidying up the bar area. And yes, they have the good Ranch. The staff are friendly and attentive. They are incredibly patient and helpful when you're trying to make the right choice for your entrees. We always have a great experience here. And they are so good with my kiddo. My husband ordered the Prime Rib steak and it came cold and dry (no juice whatsoever). When he summoned the waitress she took it back to the kitchen and stopped by the table to tell us her manager was taking care of it. The manger then brought the Prime Rib back, warm this time but overdone. The Brussels Sprouts were hard and undercooked and they were trying to serve us a wine that had been opened for 3 days. We will never come back to this restaurant again (this was our first visit and we drove 1 hour 15 minutes to get here). Do not recommend this place to anyone. My wife took me to lunch for my birthday at Jimm's Steakhouse at 1935 S Glenstone Ave, Springfield, Mo., we're on a tight budget so we only eat out for special occasions, I wanted to do an honest review. I wanted to stress, I have no affiliation with Jimm's, this is not a paid review. Some places in this group pay for fake reviews in a practice called astroturfing, to fool the potential customers with fake reviews into coming to their place for lunch or dinner. This is an honest review from a retired Marine, who detest that disgraceful, dishonest, illegal business practice. So please read this review to help you and others try a Jimm's Steakhouse & Pub, if you haven't already. We entered the business at 1:00 pm, we were greeted by 2 ladies at the podium in front hallway, very warmly, with smiles, who said hello, welcome. We told them we had a reservation we made only 15 minutes prior, they said of course and 1 of the ladies said follow me please. We were seated in an alcove which was perfect for the three of us. But a little chilly with the AC vent focused on the edge of the room, but still comfortable. Waiter Robbie, came to introduce himself and take our drink order, very soon after us being seated, but waited while we situated ourselves. Very friendly, and helpful. He brought our drinks back and we ordered an appetizer, peppadews, and our meals, My wife the Hawaiian chicken, my son a cheese burger, me the special black & blue sirloin. Robbie informed me 1 trip to the salad bar was included with my lunch special. He came back with bread in just a couple of minutes and informed us our appetizer would be up in about 7 minutes. I went for my salad at salad bar, lettuce was crisp, cold, there was fresh spinach, broccoli, peppers, macaroni salad, potato salad, and much more. I just got what I wanted, covered with a ranch dressing and went back to enjoy. Just as I finished my salad, Robbie brought our appetizer to the table, warned us it was hot, and informed us our entrees would be delivered in around 12 minutes. He asked if there was anything he could get us, poured us water and refilled my son's Dr Pepper, and then went to service his other tables in the room. The appetizer was absolutely delicious, hot at first, but delicious and for the price a great buy. Just as we finished the appetizer our entrees were delivered by a young lady who said they were very hot, and asked if there was anything else we needed? Would you like to cut into the middle of your steak while I'm here? We politely thanked her and said we were good. All of the entrees looked great, the presentation top notch. We started on our entrees, I cut into my steak which was medium. It was cooked to perfection, the taste of the blackened rub, combined with the blue Cheese crumbles was awesome. The mash potatoes hot and scrumptious. My son's burger and fries looked awesome, and he said the flavor was great. My wife said the Hawaiian chicken was good, however somewhat firm. Overall, everything was good. We ate and as we were finishing, Robbie came to ask how was everything? We told him great, and thanked him. He informed us that if we had any leftovers, he would box it up for us. I told him we enjoyed everything so much, and even though we normally have leftovers we weren't going to have any today. He asked if we wanted to try any of their deserts, I told him it was my birthday and I would have the brownie as my cake to go. He was surprised, asked if it was really my birthday, I told him yes. He said happy birthday, its mine too! We told him happy birthday, he thanks us, and informed us the brownie is normally served with ice cream so he would pack it with ice to go so we could enjoy later. I said you know what, lets just get it for here. Were full, but we will try. Robbie arrived just a few minutes later with a large Brownie covered with a peanut butter mousse, and a scoop of ice cream. I tasted it first, it was truly AWESOME. I told my wife and son they had to try it. My wife said she was full and couldn't eat any more. She tried it, and loved it. My son the same. This desert is a must try! Overall, a great experience, well worth the 100 dollars with 25 dollar tip. The steak one of the best I have had, my wife said the chicken was a little tough but good. My son thoroughly enjoyed the cheeseburger and fries. The food was great, service amazing, I would highly recommend going here for a good dining experience. Cons there were none. Update: Feb 4, 2025. The husband and I had reservations for 5:30. We arrived and were told by the hostess staff they had another party at our table at 7:10 so to be aware and implied they needed to know if we would be finished by then. I was very shocked and just said "I guess we can hurry, the other part depends on your server" The hostess replied she would give us a fast sever. Like, are you kidding? We did indeed have a fantastic meal again with a fabulous server named Shelby. She was friendly, attentive and very helpful. This was our last visit to Jimms because of the hostess problem. It's rude, it makes no sense to make a reservation, and we can just go to Char or Flame and not have to deal with it. read more

One word sums it up TERRIBLE! Avoid this place like the plague! Go to Metro! Manager horrid, steaks were cold service beyond slow....they need new training for managers. Unbelievable, we left and went to steak and shake. Just because the kitchen is backed up does not mean we need to wait 1.5 hours for a cold steak. Your issues are not the customers issues. The manager could have totally handled our dissatisfaction so much better for a positive outcome. She chose not to. It escalated and our Christmas dinner ended in frustration and disappointment. This was a heartbreaking experience. I have so many amazing memories there. After being seated everything was very slow. It took 20 minutes to get drinks, even water, like salads arrived before we had all of our drinks. Bread and salad without even a water for some of us. However, that's not why it was the worst experience we've ever had at a restaurant, especially Jimm's. My husband and I have been splitting prime rib there for 15 years. We always appreciated them splitting it for us but in the last 1-2 years instead of just cooking it and cutting it in half they filet a beautiful piece of meat into 2 very thin slices BEFORE they cook it. The problem is that it doesn't cook correctly. it's either bloody or ruined. (I'll attach photos of my serving that they boxed for me,) Upon mentioning the bloodiness I was told that it has always been like that. I wish I would have mentioned the way they butchered our meal while they just kept telling us that we were wrong. I've been a server, salesperson and worked customer relations, you don't treat customers that way. So after being triggered by the blood on my plate (PTSD from a near death experience), the server just kept saying I was wrong. Manager quoted her. No one said "we'll fix it," like they did when it happened the first time and we were able to enjoy thin prime rib. We couldn't grasp the idea of how they destroyed a steak. I had to leave the restaurant while my husband and our friend finished eating. I sat and cried in my car. After I left the staff were SO apologetic to my husband and friend and promised I would have a good dinner when I got home. What isn't in the pictures are my au jus and horseradish because it wasn't included. I won't ever eat there again after years, going back to Steak and Ale, of it being our go to for date night and for out of town visitors. There are many things that I'm leaving out but I am trying to be mature about this. Don't let them do this to you. Order what you want and if it isn't served as ordered and promise, send it back. Even if the server, manager and host (yes, he told me I was wrong too) insinuate that you don't know what you're talking about, you deserve a meal you can eat, hopefully enjoy. read more

We came here by a suggestion from a friend. We're in Springfield for a short work project. Our anniversary just happened to fall into this time. We had the filets. Man they were incredible! Cooked perfectly and the flavor was so so delicious! The sides were awesome, and Paula our server made our visit truly special with her super bubbly personality. She was really really great. My wife and I wanted a good steak and a nice meal, Jimm's did not disappoint. We didn't want to go to a chain restaurant. We called ahead and were put on the wait list. We still had about a 45 minute wait on the list. We took our time and arrived where we waited 5 minutes until we were seated. The atmosphere is what you would expect for a steakhouse. The server was great (I wish I remembered her name) she went over the menu and answered our questions. I got the 12 Oz Prime Rib medium with a sweet potato with butter and cinnamon. My wife got the Texas Roadhouse Steak with baked potato. They had a good salad bar, actually 2 , with a good variety without being ridiculous. Their potato and macaroni salad were very good. The potato salad was creamy and large potato chucks. My prime rib was excellent served with raw horseradish and au jus that the server kept warm with a candle. My wife's steak was very good and well seasoned. The sweet and baked potatoes. We decided to split dessert and opted for the crème brûlée which when brought to the the table the sugar was caramelized table side with a torch. My husband and I have eaten at Jimm's numerous times, celebrating different occasions. We've always enjoyed their food, atmosphere and service. Tonight we celebrated our anniversary at Jimm's, however we were both disappointed. We both ordered the filet. The waitress kept mentioning how thick the filets were and that medium would be a good temperature to cook them at. When she brought them to our table, they did not look like filets at all. They were thin pieces and looked like normal sirloin steaks. My steak was very dry and overcooked, as was my husbands. My mashed potatoes were cold too.
