Holy shizz, folks. I am a pessimist by nature, but our entire group of 4 was floored by their meals here last Saturday night. We took my parents-in-law out for dinner here. I was not optimistic because I am a gluten-free vegetarian and this was a seafood and steak restaurant. I was soooo wrong. I am drooling thinking about their tomato soup. I know. You're thinking "it's just soup, get over yourself". Trust me on this (you know, because you should TOTALLY trust a granola stranger on Yelp!). Anyway, I didn't even think I LIKED tomato soup, but it was a safe dinner option for me. It was to die for, and I rarely ever use that term! It was infused with gin, and it was so good, I want to make the trip back from the Tri-Cities just for the soup. I also got the mixed greens salad. It was good, but I prefer less dressing and should have asked for it on the side. My fault, not theirs. The rest of the group ordered the steak with a lobster topping, the seafood paella, and the salmon fetuccine (the biggest noodles I have ever seen in my life). EVERYONE cleared their plates. We even ordered dessert (creme brulee with strawberries on top, cheesecake with a delicious sweet caramel sauce, and brownies with ice cream). I ordered a Pepsi, and even THAT was good. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I love me some soda, and this did not disappoint. Even their ICE was great. It sounds dumb, but it is like small chunks that chill your drink but don't seem to water it down. I think Five Doors Down has magic ice. No, I'm not on drugs. I can't comment on the wines, dark beer, and cosmo that the rest of them ordered, but I know they all liked their choices. For the price range, the food is absolutely and utterly amazing. Our server was very helpful and ensured that my meal choices were safe for me to eat. He was friendly and there was a "bus-girl" who cleared our plates away as soon as she noticed we were done something. We were there just as the sun was setting, so we didn't see too much outside, but it is right at the waterfront and has an amazing view in the daylight. A few things to note, though they didn't affect how awesome the food and drink was: - It can get quite loud inside on a weekend evening, so not great for anyone with hearing issues - For ambience, the lights are turned down, but it might be hard to read the menu depending on where you are sitting (and if you need glasses to read) - The place was packed, so it's a tiny bit hard to move around, but really it's just a testament to how great the place is that it's that full I've never ever ever loved a restaurant as much as I did FDD. And I'm one pessimistic beyotch (just ask my poor husband... ). Well done you guys. I absolutely can't wait to go back. I'd love to get a 10-gallon pail of tomato soup to go next time. They don't have espresso and it is a loud restaurant. Service was a little slow as they were so busy. That said we loved our dinner here. The food was delicious, the atmosphere positive, the service great and the restaurant decor is fantastic. Definitely on our new favourites list for sure. Were served by Neil who was brilliant. Truly amazing view of the Christmas lights on Marine Drive of White Rock. There were 6 of us sharing so we ordered a wide variety of dishes. To start we ordered crab cakes, prawns and prime rib poutine. My favourite was the poutine, the flavour of the meat was wonderful (definitely cooked low and slow) and the fries were crispy. The crab cakes and prawns were delicious too but it's rare that I have anything as heart-stupid as poutine, but it was worth every bite. The Lemongrass Mussels are amazing. Be sure to dip the bread in the sauce. The spinach salad had goat cheese, beets and pumpkin seeds and the dressing was light. The best salad I've had in a long time. I felt the spinach made up for my over consumption of cheese and gravy. The home made tartar sauce for the fish and chips was delicious. I can't say enough about how delicious the lamb was. It was cooked to perfection. Every one at the table enjoyed each dish. Try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. read more

After a glorious time walking the beach, the boyfriend and I were trying to decide on where to eat in a sea of restaurants....I had read previous reviews of this place, and really wanted to try it. So glad I did. We were treated to AMAZING food, and great service for our first trip. Our server was fun, boisterous, and great...She made us welcome, treated us like friends and was very helpful. We talked so much, I think she forgot to order our appetizer (Calamari), but we weren't too disappointed because my Salmon pesto flatbread was to die for, and the boyfriend was in heaven with his entre. Great atmosphere, a bit pricey, but when you're sitting on a deck, with a view like that - who cares about prices when the food is that good! read more

Went back for dinner with a big group. There were about 15 of us and I think they did a spectacular job of accommodating everyone and their orders. Service was great and the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the carpaccio, oysters and their special Blue Marlin fish with black rice and veggies. We've been fans of Cielo for years but this trip to White Rock, decided to try their somewhat new sister restaurant, 5 doors down. Nice contrasting atmosphere and menu. Cool place, as evident, it was packed and the adjoining places not so. Both the prawn and the oyster appetizers were very good. 1st time I've seen pan fried oysters served on a half shell. All our mains were also good, the burgers, fish and chicken dishes were all enjoyed with no nits at all. Despite the crowd, service was 4 stars. If you haven't been to White Rock, it's a cool beach town just across the Blain WA border. The main drive is lined with cafes, bars and restaurants. Nice boardwalk and a popular spot in the summer. read more

What an amazing meal we had sitting on the patio watching the sunset while a Spanish guitar played in the background. The fish special was sole stuffed with crab on a risotto. The fish was fresh and tender and the flavour was incredible. Best fish dish I've had in a long time! My wife had the mussels and they were plump and juicy - - every one of them. My wife and I were also very tempted to start licking the bowl as the sauce was to die for! Service was outstanding. Prices were reasonable considering the quality of the food and the beautiful patio we were on. The menu has a wide selection of seafood items. I've had the pleasure of traveling around the world, trying different foods and meeting some unforgettable people. Sadly, Five Restaurant will not be a place where I would ever eat at or go to ever again as it was by far the worst customer service I have ever received. I generally am not one to complain when it comes to food as I love trying new things and appreciate the art that food is although today was different. My Mother in Law is in town from Texas and since it is her first time to Canada we really wanted to impress her during her stay therefore we thought this restaurant would be the perfect place to enjoy some fine dining. To start, there was a minor miscommunication between my Mother in Law and the Waitress when it came to ordering our drinks, being someone who has traveled I've learned the hard way that some things are sometimes not what you think they are going to be especially when you don't know any different. She ordered an Iced Tea, thinking it would be just cold Tea (unsweetened) and they brought her an Iced Tea (loaded with sugar). The waitress took it away and was apologetic but after that my Mother in Law just stuck to water. When it came time to order dinner, I ordered the Creole Chicken which described it as: "Cooked in creole butte, topped with scallops, lobsters, prawns and julienne peppers, served with new potatoes". Nowhere did it say that it would be (spicy) hot, therefore once I took a bite I knew I was going to pay for it later as my body does not process spicy food well so I tend to stay away from it therefore if I knew before I ordered I would have had something else. The vegetables were hard yet bland and the potatoes were dry, the chicken itself wasn't bad although the 2-3 scallops they placed on the side were delicious. Ultimately, I just wasn't enjoying it therefore once the waitress asked how we were enjoying our meals I decided to tell her the truth in the nicest way possible. She said she would do something about it, so she left to go talk to cook to either prepare another dish for me or something else for me as she didn't want me to leave dissatisfied or hungry. I told her that there was no need because I truly did not want to inconvenience or offend anyone; but she was very adamant. Once she came back, she explained that the guy she spoke with said that "it wasn't the food but it was my taste-buds" therefore she couldn't do anything for me. I could not believe I was made to feel like it was me for not liking something, that is not good customer service at least in my eyes. So she handed over the bill and said that she included two appetizer coupons, one for calamari or their cheese bread for when we come back. I guess they were supposed to compensate for the Iced Tea and Creole Chicken. I was absolutely shocked as I have dined at many upscale restaurants, from here to New York to Los Angeles and never have I ever had anyone blame my pallet for their food not being up to par or giving me a coupon for appetizers that they chose for us. I was and still am insulted, therefore I let them keep their coupons for someone else who would come back because I never will. read more

While the service was outstanding (Kim), I felt the Lobster Ravioli was deceitful. It is spinach and cheese Ravioli, with about a tablespoon of real lobster and a bunch of fake lobster (Pollock dyed red...ewww) on top. I expect better for $32. read more

Met friends for dinner and we had a great evening! The decor is warm, relaxed and inviting (being a stormy January eve we did not have the opportunity to enjoy the view). We went here for a birthday dinner and the service, food, and atmosphere is excellent! I called in to ask about any birthday surprises and was pleasantly surprised myself when it had actually been ordered in, even before we arrived. The servers are fantastic! They checked in constantly and made sure we are comfortable, and that we had everything we needed. I personally appreciated their attentiveness e.g. bringing a sample of the wasabi risotto for a taste to determine whether it needs substitution or not in the Ahi tuna dinner. The food is well-portioned, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. For first-timers, we had a variety of shucked oysters, and the Jumbo Prawns for starters. This is followed by the the Catch of the Day and the Filet Mignon as our main course. We ended with crème brûlée for dessert - made even sweeter with the sparkler to celebrate my friend's birthday. In all it had been a fun and dare I say, delicious evening for the both of us. Would return here and recommend you try it too! read more

Had he Lobster Ravioli for lunch, very good but very rich. Great spot to dine the view is amazing and the menu was broad. Didn't get a 5 star as the service was just OK. Left the full glass of wine I ordered because it was turning and not very nice. The problem was that was not asked about that or my meal. Probably an off day, we all have them. But I shall return as the decor and the charm of FIVE I am sure has a lot to offer. The stars was a 3 1/2 for me. read more

Stopped here for dinner with some friends based on the Yelp reviews and the fact that they were open on a Tuesday on the off-season. So glad we did. I opted for the nightly special which was halibut with mushroom risotto and vegetables. Fish was amazing! Risotto was the best I ever had and the vegetables were great too. We lingered for a while after dinner and didn't feel rushed at all. If I'm back in White Rock again, I'll definitely be stopping by for dinner! read more

The Thai Lemongrass Mussels meat were kinda small and shrank considerably but its sauce was rich and delicious. The popular Fish and Chips were great and of excellent quality. Snapper Fajita is highly recommended. Service is very good. read more

Honestly, I don't think I have ever had better prime rib dinner in my life & the clam chowder was just soooo good & smooth. My brother had the calamari & the New york steak as his meal, which he HIGHLY recommends by the way, my dad had the creole chicken (looks huge and filling) Mum had the Ceasar salad w/ added cajun chicken. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was told that we could wait for a table on the patio, as you may not specify patio when you make reservations. I didn't mind waiting, so I said that it would be fine to wait a little while as I had to wait for my friends anyways. My friends arrived about five minutes later and about ten minutes after that, we were seated on the patio in an ideal spot. The sun was still out and we were pumped to be sitting outside. About thirty seconds after, we were told we'd have to move inside as there had been some confusion and other people were waiting. Ugh. That being said, shit happens -- move on. The server (possibly a manager) said that she'd send over some comped bread (which was delicious, to be fair) right away. She handled the situation with us well; however, I could also hear how she was addressing her fellow staff when hurriedly trying to get a table ready for us. I am not cool with overhearing a condescending or demeaning conversation between staff. Also, in the middle of going over the beer menu for my friend, the server yelled at her friend who was leaving behind us, pausing mid-breath to ignore us. As we were leaving, a group was arriving and our server yelled to the back of the house for someone to come out and help them. She then proceeded to complain that there were six other people working and she was the only one of the floor. With the bill, we each received a complimentary bread appetizer for next time. I appreciate the gesture, but I would have just preferred professional service instead. For the food, the highlight was the bread with balsamic, pesto, cheese, and tomato - a simple, well-done dish. My lobster ravioli tasted great, but had obviously been sitting for a few minutes under lights as it was obvious because of the sheen and thin layer on the cream sauce. The sauce is flavoured with blue cheese and is quite tasty, but there was so much of it that my dish looked more like cream soup than a pasta. Everyone in my group thought his or her food was decent, but no one left raving about it. read more

My girlfriend had the east coast oysters! and the spinach salad with Prawns for dinner!! Everything was fresh, succulent and on time even though the place was absolutely packed! Service was amazing! everyone seemed very attentive to our table yet again! A gentleman out of uniform came to ask us how everything was after we had finished our dinner, he was inviting, genuine and even gave us a free appetizer for our next visit!! Will be back very soon! Came here with 2 friends on a quiet Sunday afternoon in February (actually, Superbowl Sunday) for lunch. We sat by the window with a great view of the water. The service was great - we were greeted promptly, Neil was our server. He was super friendly and very helpful. We split half a dozen oysters, the fish stew, and lobster pasta (which was more like a ravioli). Everything tasted great! The oysters came with a wide variety of hot sauces/vinegars as well as some fish roe, which was a nice extra! I gave 4 stars only because they didn't have my favourite mussels dish. They had 2 mussel dishes, but didn't have the most basic one with garlic white wine broth. Other than that, everything was awesome! read more

Five Doors Down used to be one of the best meals on White Rock beach. Unfortunately, times have changed and "Five" is trying to be something it's not. The setting and the view are lovely. Unfortunately, the food and service do not live up to expectations. Four of us went to Five for dinner and only one of us got an enjoyable meal. The halibut special was excellent. The burger was overcooked and served with frozen fries. The snapper fajitas were dry and lack lustre. There are no vegetarian entrees, so our server suggested that the kitchen could prepare many of their entrees without meat or seafood. I opted for the curry prawns (minus the prawns). What I received was out of the jar curry paste on some steamed vegetables on rice. When the bill came, there was no adjustment on the price of my entree for not including prawns, so I was charged $26. When I mentioned this to my server, he had the manager adjust the bill by $4. Prices here are way over inflated for the quality of food served. We will not be back. read more

Five Seafood Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant in the western part of White Rock. The coastal motif is perfect for this waterside eatery that boasts indoor and outdoor seating. The service was amazing. The kids were exhausted, so they made sure that their entrée came with the first courses and they brought balloons to entertain them later. The owner was there greeting guests as well. He was delightful and warm. I ordered a glass of the Lake Breeze Pinot Gris, which was a fantastic, dry, crisp white wine and I love having a local choice. DHhad a couple of the OK Black Lagers, which were a very good, dark beer. The soup of the day was mushroom and cauliflower, and it was fantastic. It was a puree of cauliflower and mushroom with a little veggie broth that was woodsy and nutty. We also ordered the crab cakes, which were housemade with chunks of sweet crab with chopped red bell peppers and scallions in them as well as cilantro and ginger. The crab cakes were served with a fantastic chipotle aioli. They were small crab cakes, but they were so light and refreshing. The sweet crab and the grassy cilantro with the spicy aioli were a perfect match. The LOs shared pepperoni pizza for dinner, which was a scratch made flatbread pizza with lots of cheese and pepperoni. It was very good. DH had the fish and chips, which were fantastic large hunks of cod that were fried and served with super crispy fries. DM ordered the rack of lamb, which came a perfect medium rare with yam mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed green beans. It was delicious. The meat was incredibly tender, and the mashed sweet potatoes were really sweet. DB's burger was a little disappointing - they kept overcooking it - I would stick with the off the charts fish here. I ordered the special of the day, which was amazing. Filet of sole was stuffed with crab and served on a mélange of green beans and summer squashes (zucchini and yellow squash) with a roasted red pepper cream sauce. Wow! This sweet filling in the moist fish with the creamy sauce and the crisp veggies was perfect. We could not leave without dessert, so we ordered the duet of chocolate and the crème brulee. The duet of chocolate was a scoop of chocolate mousse with a slice of ganache tart, whipped cream and blueberries. This was certainly very chocolatey. It was well prepared and a good choice for any chocolate lover. We also ordered the crème brulee, which was AMAZING! The thin, shallow trough was filled with vanilla bean custard and bruleed for a loose custard with a crunchy top. The accompanying blueberries paired perfectly with the sweet custard. I went there with my dad. Food is good and our server is nice. However, not the lady that seated us. We told her who we would like to wait for the booth that can see through the window since that table had just left. She said give them a couple of minutes and she never returned. After a long wait the other server approached us and we told her we are waiting for the table and she started cleaning the table for us right away. The lady that seated us then let other customers sat on that booth without telling them we were waiting. We had to tell that customers ourselves. Pretty big turndown. The same lady even passed a spoon that had dropped on the floor to a customer. Even the food is good, probably won't come back. At this price range, I can get much better service elsewhere. read more

This has got to be my favourite restaurant in white rock. Oysters are always fresh and the sauces are delicious, the seafood linguine is beyond wonderful, and I would recommend the hot pot to anyone.
