The Cabin Restaurant is my new favourite restaurant, for a nice meal. The setting was comfortable, the food was very good, the staff were particularly nice, the prices were fair, based on the competition. I can't think of anything that wasn't perfect, making our special occasion, special. Also, the wine list, by the bottle, had a nice selection and completed our meal.

The decor of this Crescent Beach restaurant is shabby-chic and the bare floors and walls plus loud music mean it's a little loud. The service was fine - I was a little put off when the server sat down on our bench while we ordered our meals (that's a pet peeve of mine) - but she respected our distance after that. Our food was good, but not anything outstanding, and the portions were healthy...not American over-sized, but more along the lines of what a person should eat. I enjoyed the coconut-infused rice, which had a subtle flavour...but I suspect that part of the seasonal vegetables were frozen (green beans).

They just don't know what they're doing. Food wasn't great and the place was dirty and unorganized. Sorry.

We opted to sit near the window. The room is nicely decorated and the tables all have good lighting and are well spaced apart, so conversation is easy. It is quiet and very relaxing. The food and service were really good. We told our server that we were in no rush and he allowed us time between courses. He was very good explaining all the specials of the day to us. There were only 2 servers but they seemed to handle the full dining room very well. They had a special appetizer, soup and entrée. We shared jumbo prawns in a sundried tomato aioli as an appetizer. It was lovely with 5 jumbo prawns perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce. For entrees my husband had a New York steak with tomato and bone marrow butter and I had wiener schnitzel. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and one of the nicest steaks that we've had. My wiener schnitzel came with spätzle and red cabbage. It was better than the wiener schnitzel that I had recently at a restaurant that specializes in German food. We shared a chocolate lava cake for dessert. It was served hot in a small ramekin and come with vanilla ice cream. It was a good way to end our meal. It was a great night out.

I would have liked the meat to be a little more well done (especially when they ask you for your preference) but overall it was delicious and a generous portion. We also brought our toddler along to the restaurant. I was pleased to discover they had a kids pasta meal (need to ask the waiter for the menu options). We chose the pasta and butter parmesean and added prawns for an additional charge. Our little one loved it and slathered the pasta sauce all over their face as they were eating. Final note: this restaurant doesn't have high chairs available so if you little one still needs some sort of booster seat, you'll need to pack your own.

Knowing it would be a busy day, I made a reservation in advance, which I'm glad I did. This restaurant had fairly good reviews, so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, I was a little surprised. The restaurant was much more casual than I expected, and the ambiance felt a bit dated. We ordered the half dozen fresh oysters, spinach salad, seafood linguine, and the Creole chicken. Unfortunately, the oysters were disappointing. They weren't as plump or flavorful as the fresh oysters I've had in Vancouver, and they were served with tobiko, which I've never seen paired with oysters before. It wasn't a combination I enjoyed. The spinach salad was good, although I thought it was a bit overdressed. The seafood linguine was also enjoyable, with a generous amount of seafood, though I wasn't expecting it to be made with pesto sauce. It was still a tasty dish. The Creole chicken was just okay--the chicken breast was a bit dry, but the sauce helped make up for it. Overall, I felt the prices were a bit high for the quality of the food and the casual atmosphere. It may be a good option by White Rock standards, but if this restaurant were in Vancouver, I don't think it would stand out. That said, the service was excellent. Our server was genuinely friendly, attentive, and provided the best part of our dining experience.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

They sat us promptly at our reservation time, pulling the table for us to sit comfortably. Free complimentary crab puffs were given along with ice water, free baguette slices, and whipped butter. We ordered our martinis, which were delicious vibrant, balanced, and themed to the city. They were delicious and the mixture was mixed perfectly. He had the White Rock and enjoyed it; I had the Green Timbers. Our charcuterie was expertly plated and gorgeous to look at, along with fresh and delicious. The cheese, cured meats, and fruits were fresh, crisp, tangy, and perfectly paired with one another for a solid appetizer. We then had our encores. The steak I had (he had the duck) was the most supple, soft, juicy, and perfectly cooked medium rare I've had in my memory. I swear. If you love steak.. you'll love it. Perfectly seasoned, supple and soft... gorgeous. Along with the pillowy, crispy potatoes and veggies? Classic!
