Rail and River used to be one of our favourite restaurants but after covid there were many changes made and we did not enjoy our meals there like we used to. The menu had changed quite a bit and the food was not as good. I think it was because they had lost their chef. We read very good reviews recently and there was a new chef, so we decided to give it another try. We made reservations for Sunday. At first we were seated at the end of the room with a door that connected to the pub next door. It was a windy day and with the door open it was very chilly where we were seated. We asked to be moved. There were 2 large groups in the room when we were there but fortunately, they were not noisy so we did not have to shout in order to talk to each other. Our server was very good. We shared an order of chili chicken as an appetizer. My husband enjoyed it but I found the chicken dry. The chicken pieces were very small, most were the size of my small fingertip, hence the dryness. I felt that there was almost as much batter as there was chicken. Disappointing. For entrees my husband had prawn pesto linguine that was decent. I had grilled salmon. The salmon was well cooked but it could have used a sauce or seasoning to give it more flavour. The vegetables that were served with it consisted mainly of peppers with a couple of stalks of asparagus. We did order dessert. After 15 minutes our server said it was on it's way. After another 10 minutes we just gave up and asked for our bill. It was overall a very disappointing evening. For what is offered we felt the prices are a bit on the high side. We might return as this used to be one of our favorites. Hopefully it's just going through growing pains with a new chef and new menu. read more

All 3 of us ordered a different pizza. They were all fantastic. The Caesars were tasty but the service was slow. We each only got 1 drink. She never even bring the water we asked for as soon as she seated us outside. She was young and nice...but definitely did not check in with us very often. read more

Super cute little place that offers pizza and martinis! Our server was awesome and very accommodating. We came for martinis to celebrate my friends birthday. The server created martinis for our occasion. One with raspberry vodka and one that was grapefruit! They were classic and very delicious. The pizza smelled amazing but that will have to be something to try next time! read more

Food is absolutely delish and can't wait to go again!! Service was good and our server was very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu!! We sat on the patio and it was really fun...a bit noisy with the trains but all part of the fun and ambiance of Fort Langley! Totally recommend this place!! read more

It is highly inappropriate for a server to add a tip without the customer's consent. I visited the restaurant with my kids for lunch today, and the server, claiming to be super busy, made us wait nearly an hour just for seating, the menu, and serving the food. We ordered burgers, pizza, and lettuce dishes, and while we tried to be understanding, the final moment was frustrating. When it came time to pay, the server quickly added a tip without my consent and handed me the machine before walking away. I've never had such an experience in any Canadian restaurant before. No matter how good the food may be, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Took my parents for a brunch date. Upon arriving we walked in and were asked inside or outside. I said outside! So I took a peek at the "outside" seating (which wasn't really outside - open air) and decided we rather be inside. The host abruptly said oh now you want to sit inside? Mind you it wasn't busy. So unsure why it was a big deal we changed our minds. Ordered coffees/teas - took way longer than should've. Ordered our breakfasts. My dads a chef so he knows what he likes and how items are prepared at most places. He asked "Is your hollandaise made in house or bought in package?" Waiter says it's house made - great! Along with asking if the hash browns were pan fried or deep fried. Waiter said pan fried. When the food came my dad knew right away both were not as stated. Which wasn't a huge deal however had the waiter given proper info we may have changed our options based on that as we don't prefer those. The waiter was young, he may have gotten nervous, or simply didn't know because of lack of training -- so my father said "I'm not upset as it wasn't crucial, however if you aren't 100% certain it's best to be educated on the menu specifications had this been an allergy related situation or what not" Im big on hot sauce so I asked for that with my plate. It never came - oh well. For the small amount of guests the service was rather slow. Food was mediocre. Place was filled with mosquitos. It was quite messy inside in general. read more

I stopped by again during lunch and the menu changed. Only two entree items were under $20. The rest of the menu felt like dinner pricing. Usually for lunch, I expect to spend under $20 for entrees. I ordered the Off the Rails Burger with a sunny side up egg and side salad. The service this time was just as slow as last time. There was only one person making all the food orders. Our server was attentive and stopped by to refill water cups once in awhile. Once my burger arrived, it was presented well and tasted like a great gourmet burger should be. I enjoyed the runny egg, bacon, cheese and mushroom over a beef patty. The lettuce, tomato was bonus. Salad was lightly covered in a vinaigrette dressing. The ambiance is lovely during a sunny afternoon. Especially if you get to sit by the window and people watch. On a weekday, I noticed we were the youngest table of customers. The rest looked like the retired crowd. Maybe the menu is catering to a certain group of customers who would like tomahawk rib chops and steaks for lunch? read more

This place has great service and being set on the river in FT Langley the location is great. We ordered a couple of salads mine a Caesar and my friend's the Beet Salad. I ordered the Caesar primarily because the menu stated it came with fried capers and I have been wanting to try fried capers. When I got my salad I looked for the fried capers and couldn't find any. There was some really yummy bacon crumbles on the salad though. When I asked the waitress she was super quick to grab me some from the kitchen and they were delicious! The beet salad was tiny...delicious ingredients but tiny!! Definitely more of a side salad than even a lunch time meal...my friend ended up ordering a side of fries cause she was still hungry. read more

Waited 2.5 hours for mushroom/crab risotto which I think was cooked in the dishwasher! Inedible! Not made any better by waitress with horrible attitude. On the upside crab cake was excellent. The staff attitude alone is worth staying away.....way better other restaurants in town. read more

My partner devoured their salad proclaiming it one of the best they've had and their burger delicious! We enjoyed the crisp, clean, bright interior. The restaurant is deceptively big inside. Absolutely loved this place. My chicken burger was perfect and my wife's seafood chowder was delicious. The service was great even though it was the waitress' second day on the job. Ugh. No thank you. Never again. We were there for Sunday brunch. We all regretted it. There is not a brunch menu, but rather a "buffet" that has been laid out on fold-out tables. Selection dismal, flavours very underwhelming. We were actually able to order eggs benedict, which was made for us in the kitchen. Not sure what kind of sauce they used but it sure wasn't Hollandaise. (We all felt nauseous afterwards.) I've heard their dinner is great... but sadly, brunch was an epic fail for us. read more

We arrived in a very large group (22 people) and it took a while to get our main course, but the waitress was very attentive, and appologised for the wait. The appitizers were delicious and drinks were brought quickly. When we got our main course it was so delicious. We had one rude guest which took her irritability out on the waitress which was uncalled for but the waitress was professional and dealt with it despite the anger displayed to her. Went there for a late lunch with my hubby, daughter, & little grandson in August. We got seated by the window with the view of the river, & hanging flower baskets outside. Though food is on the pricey side, I will say it's well worth it. The taste of food is well balanced, one can really taste the different herbs & spices used. They only use fresh ingredients and the serving portions are reasonable. Though I'm not a salad person, I ordered the Heirloom beet salad mainly for health reasons but ended up enjoying it. I didn't know salad can be that yummy. Best salad I've ever had. My hubby ordered Off the Rail burger. They used pure beef, big & juicy. Perfectly grilled & served on bun with lettuce & tomato. Served with a bowl of green salad on the side. My daughter ordered the R & R Seafood Chowder, & fries w/Truffle aioli. The chowder was very tasty, nice & thick. They didn't scrimp on the amount of seafood in it either. The fries were perfectly fried but not greasy, sprinkled with parsley, & Truffle aioli that wasn't over powering. That was excellent even without the dip that came with it. This restaurant is a great addition to Fort Langley! The food is delicious, service is fantastic, and the management is so friendly - even popped by our table to tell us of some exciting new items to come! The newly opened patio is amazing as well. If you don't want your night to end after dinner you can pop next door to the Fort Pub for another drink and a lively atmosphere:) We had a perfect evening. Highly recommend it!! read more

The hubby and I went for lunch today and we won't be back any time soon. The service was slow and there was only one person cooking and one person waiting tables in prime lunch time when they knew a table for 8 had prebooked. Both of our orders finally came but were wrong. Hubbys was sent back because he ordered chicken and got beef but I bit the bullet and ate my pasta as it was. By the time his finally came correctly I was done and he had to take it to go. Then we had to wait for the bill which was also incorrect and had to be fixed. All this took well over an hour because the one waitress was overwhelmed by the volume of customers. Overall she had to apologize to us at least 3 separate times. That seems a lot for one meal, and it cost 40$ to boot. Later, when he did try his chicken, it was pieces of leg meat on a sandwich, with the grissle left on. Totally not worth it. read more

My daughter and I were there today and as a health care worker I was shocked by the lack of Covid protocol. We were seated in a booth with a very loud group seated in the booth beside us. There was no plexiglass between the booths and I could literal feel the people laughing beside us. The server was not wearing a mask but a plastic chin type shield that did not go up high enough to cover her nose. People were walking to the bathroom not wearing a mask and because the cooking area is open and you can see the cooks I noticed that the Chef had his mask pulled under his nose. If I had not already ordered and had our drinks we would have left. ( After the laughing group in the booth besides us left another couple was seated and they sat down looked around and then got up and left before they had a chance to order.) The food was below average ( we had crab cakes and artichoke dip and the crab cakes tasted like they came from a box. Was super surprised after reading the reviews. read more

Met friends for dinner last night at this new bistro. Service was friendly and attentive. The menu is as expected. The group really enjoyed the tenderloin and the cod. Two people had the Seafood Garganelli and were quite disappointed. While the pasta and seafood was nicely cooked, this dish overall was bland with a sauce that tasted like it was from a jar. Salt and pepper can only help so much, even fresh Parmesan might have helped, but it wasn't offered. For the price of the entrees, we probably won't be back as there is a lot of competition in the neighbourhood. read more
