It's a good sized place that has a huge amount of taps, it should be packed all the time given its location so close to Hwy #1. Our first experience was less than inspiring, which is too bad, because there are things to like. The service is great, although it wasn't crazy busy. Our server was attentive, aware of our needs, and took care of us very well. The beverages are wide ranging and mostly local which is a wise choice given the political landscape recently. The part that let the entire experience down was the food hands down. My tuna salad was acidic, and too lemon forward. It was cut like steak, which was new to me. The lovely K was also confused by her meal, supposedly a burger. We'd love to give it another try, but will need an invite, we won't go back on our own, far too many other places to explore in this part of the valley. read more

Situated right next to the Langley cineplex and open till 11pm which makes it a good spot to grab food after dinner. Went there on a Tuesday night but the vibes were still fun! They had good music playing and a variety of cocktails. The space is quite big from the inside and can easily accommodate a large party (we were 8 people and did not have to wait to get seating). They indoor and outdoor seating. If you are not a fan of loud music, I would suggest the outdoor seating (it is covered so good during the rain as well). The food was not bad, we got their filthy fries which were advertised as being spicy but there was no spice on it. We ordered the hot sauce on the side which made it better. Their ganjang burger was tasty but really hard to eat! The buns were too small and could not hold the weight on the crispy chicken. The burger was a bit sweet and tangy. It is probably typical of most pubs but I found it extremely loud on Friday night. Maybe we should just avoid pubs on weekend nights. The service was very good. We like wine with our meals and this is not the place to have a glass of wine. They only have wines by the glass. Our server explained that they do not have bottles of wine because the wines they have are served in large containers. The wines a really mediocre. We had a glass of white and a glass of red. Skip the wine. We shared an order of Korean shrimp skewers to start. It is a decent size serving but I thought the shrimp were overcooked. My husband enjoyed the shrimp and he ate most of the appetizer. For entrees my husband had the BBQ Burger and I had the steak frites. The burger was decent but my striploin steak that was supposedly triple A beef was tough and dry. I sent the steak back. As I did not see anything else on the menu that appealed to me I did not order anything else. We asked about dessert but they only have 2 desserts neither of which appealed to us. We went to DQ and had dessert there. When I was talking to another customer in the washroom she asked if it was our first time at the restaurant. She asked what I thought of it and when I mentioned that I did not enjoy my meal she commented that it was her first visit also and she did not enjoy her meal. read more

Had the best gluten free chicken sandwich at the Barley Merchant! They use The Good Flour Co to batter their chicken they use in the fried chicken sandwich. It was packed with flavour and different textures. The filthy fries were really good too - a nice Cajun dusting with some pickled onions, fried onions and mayo - yum! They also had a lot of ciders and gluten free beer on tap! They also had lots of tables inside and on their heated patio. read more

After a movie stop for great food and a drink to wet your whistle. This restaurant has only been open for two weeks but I think it is going to be a hot spot where people go to get away, socialize and enjoy being served great food and choose, one or two of 50 beers available. With so many options for large tap-list venues in the Urban parts of Vancouver, it was good to hear that Langley was getting something going on. The BM has good food options for a group, wine and cocktails for the non-beer crowd. The breweries represented cover a wide geography too, with a special emphasis on areas from Hope to Chiliwack, which makes good sense. read more

Excellent place to grab some local beers and good food! The location and service are both amazing! Covered patio with heat lamps are a big plus! We came here for a friends bday and were able to get in right away! They have tons of beers and have excellent flights (including ciders). They also have only local high balls! We ordered a bunch of appetizers (the best being the Crispy Cauli & Garden Medley - lightly coated and fried cauliflower & seasonal vegetables with mint lime crema & spicy aioli). We also got the beer cheese (a bit too watery and just ok). Tons of food choices including vegan and GF options! We were super surprised the quality of the "bar" food! And the service is exceptional. The service is good- always coming to check if you need water and took away dishes as we ate. The food was also a nice surprise, as they offered a variety of cuisine (Korean, and Mexican specials for Cinci de Mayo). 50 brews on tap plus some good food. What's not to like? My wife loved the Pakoy Vegetable Fritters... crunch! The Loaded Potato Soup was excellent... unlike many restaurant soups, it was not too salty. I had the Curry, medium spice, which was also very good. We will be back! read more

Stopped in here after another long work day We Hadn't eaten all day and we're looking for a quiet place to wind down & have a quick bite When we walked in it really wasn't what we were looking for but they were open late as other places had already closed so in we went even tho the music was louder than we hoped It all worked out great tho as the meal was great for both of us Sometimes the menu in a pub doesn't satisfy both of us but it did here. Our server was great She was working hard and walking fast to keep up. Really impressive tap list loaded with BC craft beer, cider and wine. Food was very innovative and delicious. Lots of options you don't see at all the chain restaurants. Had the wagyu meatballs, prosciutto pear flatbread and the cider house chicken. Everything was amazing. Atmosphere was bumpin and it has a great open beer hall vibe. We came here for a friend's birthday during the week and it was a group of about 15 of us. The first employee that was trying to seat us all was really nice and was trying to get us two tables close to one another. However when the server came around she was very rude. She made it a point to say several times that we needed to hurry up and order as the restaurant was closing in 40 minutes, she was off done her shift at the end of the 40 minutes and did not want to be there longer than her shift. That was the first time she came around and we were all ready to order. It would have been fine if she had nicely said hey folks the restaurant closes in 40 minutes so please let me know what you'd like so I can ensure you get it before we close. However her rude tone and rushed manner right from the get go was really unprofessional and did not make us feel welcome there at all. It's unfortunate that this server was so unprofessional because the Barley Merchant has great selections for food and beers/ciders etc., but this experience is definitely going to make us think twice before coming back. read more

Lovely service. However, the food needs a wee bit of work. I had a bowl of beef barley soup and the Prosciutto Pear flatbread. Meh. The soup was mostly liquid. Where was the cornucopia of veg? Sure, it had beef, but the barley was not in abundance, and the variety of veg was seriously lacking. BORING. Plus, needed salt. The flatbread was VERY greasy. It was also soggy. I had to roll the pieces to eat them. All the toppings kept sliding off. ARGH. The only good food was the iced tea. I don't know if I should give them another chance. Service was excellent. I recently visited the Barley Merchant, although we had great service the food for the most part was lacking. This could be a great place as the have a lot on tap to offer but definitely need to step up their food game. Those that ate their burgers enjoyed them as well as one of their toast selections. I had the beef and barely soup, it was good as far as the meat being tender and had some really nice heirloom veggies which I appreciated but where it lost me was the lack of flavour ie salt. Simple fix and it would be good. Where the place really missed the mark was their chicken wings and seafood bowl. The shrimp in the bowl were super tough and unpleasant consistency. The wings were very over cooked and completely lacking flavour, I ordered hot wings... I could not tell there was actually hot sauce on them. I asked for a side of hot sauce and was presented with an oily sauce. They advised it was fermented in house. Well it was again lacking any flavour or punch of heat.
