Steak with veggies and mashed potatoes
Vivien I.

Wanting to try something different for my birthday dinner, a coupon to The Lodge Steakhouse offered the perfect incentive. Even though my husband and I knew the restaurant was located above the George Preston Rec Centre in Langley, we still had a shared moment of "are we at the right place" when we pulled into the parking lot. It was game day so the parking lot was rather full, but we did find a few spots a ways away. We had to enter through the rec centre main doors and follow the signs upstairs and it was only when we walked into the restaurant portion did it stop feeling like the inside of a rec centre (because it was), and became a hippy steakhouse. There weren't any window seats available when we walked in, so we ended up being seated at a table closest to the main door. I opted for the smallest cut I could find, the Centre Cut Sirloin and I was secretly glad to see a side of veggies and dollop of mashed potatoes included in my dinner. Hubby ordered a steak as well, but chose to substitute his side with the (giant) add-on of Truffle Mac n Cheese. I will admit that I don't have the palette to discern between different steaks at different establishments. I will say the steak was cooked to my liking, tender and juicy and not leaking blood. A very solid steak dinner. We were too full to order dessert, so I never did get to discover if we would get free desert for celebrating my birthday. For the novelty of having a steakhouse above a rec centre in the middle of a residential area? I would go again.

Ribeye steak, mashed potatoes and Caesar salad substitute for seasonal veg. Was really good.

We had heard about this place through a friend and was surprised at the location above a curling rink. We booked our reservations 2 weeks prior and I can see what we had to wait. The place isn't big but it is busy. I little loud, (no music just chatter) ambiance was very cazh. Service was good and food was really good. Nothing to complain about here. Good serving size and a nice night out.

Delicious steaks cooked well, but could maybe have a tad more seat. The butter isn't necessary.

This unassuming restaurant delivers much more than its location and entry experience promise. Situated in the upstairs level of an old community ice arena, you need to enter through institutional double doors, pass the curling rink, and climb a concrete-masonry utilitarian stairwell to get to the front door. They do what they can by adorning the rec centre walls with imagery harkening to the ranchland vibe and steakhouse restaurant that lies ahead. But you don't feel like you're going someplace anywhere near upscale until you finally pass the reception and into the dining room. They did a great job with the old place. The floor to ceiling windows on one side overlook the rec centre parking lot but the lighting, outdoor fireplaces, banquet layout and interior decor all avert your eyes from what might be a little mediocre toward the good parts. The space is much smaller than expected. But they fill it with many tables without it feeling crowded. Everyone gets their own space well enough. The service is very friendly and attentive, and not at all pushy. You feel like you can go at the pace you want. Compared to the other Steakhouse chains nearby, this is a breath of fresh air. The food is quite good. The steaks are definitely high quality. Clearly from a premium source. They were all cooked to our group's liking, the pad ofnherb butter on top was a little much, but I was fine to push it aside so I could enjoy the flavour of the beef more. The sides though, I wish they'd spend a bit more time to make them a bit more special. They have a couple truffle-laden items, and when asked they were honestly transparent that they were made with synthetic truffle oil. They dialed back the amount for me since I find the fake stuff a little offensively overwhelming when applied to heavily. They did a great job dealing with restraint for me, but if the quality was better the truffle would have been much more complementary to the steak, which can be such a heavenly combination when using authentic ingredients. The appetizers are solid. The escargot is standard. The calamari looked anemic, and the batter was maybe a little overly bready, but the calamari itself was amazingly tender, and the sauce, onions and jalapenos delicious additions to the dish. The beverages are a little pedestrian. It was nice that they had a few mocktails at an affordable price. But the cocktails were prohibitively expensive. $18 or $19 for something with middling brand alcohol is just crazy. I stuck with a beer. But the beer selection too is pretty low grade especially for the price. $7.50 for a Shock Top or a Bud? Yikes. But at least it was cheaper than a $19 margarita or caesar. The costs made me have one drink and then just stick to water. All things considered though, The Lodge is a well priced steak joint.

The bread was a bit tough, but may have been over toasted. Really loved the butter with bits of shallot. It was really delish and the service was friendly. Will definitely be back!

There is definitely at least one back room, but the main dining room is a bright, airy space that has access to a patio where may even be some live music playing. The tables are gorgeous - all live edge, which might create a bit of an issue if you have short arms and are used to stealing bites across the table, but they are absolutely beautiful and a nice nod to the area. The wine list is extensive and a bit overwhelming, but the service is happy, friendly, and very knowledgeable. In fact, I love when servers don't know, admit it, and find the answer for you - it's humble and shows they really care at getting you what you want. We got the orange wine, which is a new favorite of mine. It's like a rose for reds. Rose:White::Orange:Red. More savory, still light, and best chilled. We had the beet hummus app, which is definitely best eaten with your hands. It's light and delicious. We had the miso black cod, a personal favorite, and the lasagna for dinner and while both were good, the accoutrements with the cod were the true standout. Amazing and I could probably eat two of them. As the restaurant operates on a seasonal menu, we had a strawberry rhubarb cobbler for dessert. I know there is Sunday Brunch, and I can't wait to try it. It's not the cheapest, but it's one of the nicer restaurants in Whatcom, and is definitely worth your pennies. Everything about it makes for a truly nice experience, and we'll definitely be back.

What can I say about Clove that does this restaurant justice? 5/5 on all accounts - food, staff,…read moreservice, atmosphere. The food here is so good that nothing else matters. Just an A+ experience all around. All I can say is WOW!!! I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine, so I've tried a bunch of Indian restaurants, but this is one of the top! I've never had Indian food this good. The chef knows his stuff. I think the reason why the food is so good is how much heart and soul they put into their cooking. You can taste the passion in every mouthful, and it makes the whole experience even more special. Forget about the ordinary Indian places you've been to; Clove takes things to a whole new level. The flavours here are unlike anything you've ever tasted. Actually talking about it is making me hungry for them again. You can tell there's real thought, real skill, real flavour behind everything. Food of course speaks for itself, nothing I could beat anywhere else! Clove is one of those rare places that gets everything right -- atmosphere, service, mocktails, and food. The ambiance is stunning, and you're immediately greeted by warm, welcoming staff. And if you want the full experience, ask for Simran. She's the star of the show. Perfect recommendations, amazing service, and just genuinely makes you feel welcomed. She deserves all the praise! All the flavours hit the right notes in a perfect symphony. Every dish is packed with flavour, and you can really tell how much thought goes into the ingredients and cooking. The flavours are bold but well balanced, and nothing feels overdone. Each course stands out on its own, and everything tastes consistently excellent. For the main course, we had the butter chicken and wow -- it was incredible. The quality, spice, and flavour were off the charts. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with flavour, easily the best we've had around here. The butter naans, cheese naans and garlic naans were the perfect sides -- soft, warm, and just the right amount of indulgent. And the presentation speaks for itself in the pictures. The food quality is nothing short of exceptional--each dish is a masterpiece, crafted with fresh, high-quality ingredients and presented with an artistic flair. Every dish is a testament to the chef's mastery and passion for Indian cuisine. One bite of the Amritsari Cod Pakora and you'll be hooked! You won't be able to stop eating them! When the mocktails (Lycheenis, Blue Caribbean, Pineapple Mango Margarita) are looking this good, you know they taste even better. The Berry-licious Gajrela was the best fix for my sweet tooth! Every dish was expertly prepared, and the flavours were spot on. The entire team works together seamlessly to create an unforgettable atmosphere. This place is the epitome of customer service. The seamless teamwork between them, coupled with impeccable professionalism, added a personal touch to our visit. What truly sets Clove apart is its unwavering commitment to providing impeccable service. The service is outstanding; the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, ensuring that every detail is perfect and that you feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout your meal. Textures, flavours, spice, presentation - it was all outstanding. We honestly wanted to order every item on the menu...that's how great everything tasted. There's so much love in every dish and you can taste it immediately. I cannot speak highly enough of the service, especially Simran. The only thing better than the delicious food and the beautiful ambience, is the lovely staff that treats everyone like family. Highly recommend if you're craving Indian comfort food done right. I can go on raving about this place but I suggest you find out on your own. So come here for the real deal!

This place should be called Salt-the art of horrible cooking. Some how we managed to find the worst…read moreIndian food in Surry which is a real achievement. A general rule I have is never go to a restaurant that has no one eating in it and when we came here we thought it might be closed because there were so few people only two tables occupied. Despite the place being empty the surly older women who greeted us made us do go to the front desk and do a reservation. We had two mocktails that were huge but bland (a complaint also made by another table), a appitizer that was pretty but rather than bland and that despite being cold and there literally be no other tables at that point it took 25 minutes to get and then we were served after almost an hour two of the most over salted dishes I have ever been served in a restaurant. I don't know if the cook didn't taste the dish or there is something deeply wrong with their palate but after a few bites neither of us could continue to it. We told both our younger server and the surly women that it was inedible and the surly woman just laughed which was nuts and the younger woman offered to have them "fix" it which I don't know how you fix an OVER SALTED dish with remaking it completely. While we aren't Indian, I have lived in Indian and have been adopted by aunties and ammas from both the north and the south and there is no way my Keralian dish nor my spouse's Punjabi dish should have tasted the way it did. Even after sending both dishes back barely eaten they still tried to make us pay for them only giving us 15 percent off a meal where again we could not eat our entrees. To top it off half way through our meal the surly women decided to spray airfresher right behind us which felt extremely rude and smelled disgusting. The other server claimed they had a "water leak" from the roof and the sole other table complained of a smell. I have no idea what these people's issue is but you can't have food that bad and be that rude even if you are in the heart of a large Indian population that will support you no matter how bad you are.
