I dont know what happened to the owner. Last time we visited they no longer had fisherman's platter. No prawns. NO Scallops. No Oysters..Soggy batter. The owner explained everything was to expensive and to much trouble. So we don't want to trouble the Restaurant by ordering just fish you can get at any shop near by. Just, no. Skip this, and go to any number of other fish n' chips spots nearby. We came to Fishboat to get a quick lunch, since the fish n' chips place nearby had a long line, and this one didn't (that should have been a clue). Despite the lack of customers, a simple one piece cod & chips took a good 15-20 minutes to arrive. Meanwhile, we sat down at one of the outdoor tables to wait for it, and were reprimanded by an unfriendly old woman at the counter. Apparently, paying customers are not allowed to sit down. That said, the fish was good. The fries, not so much. Despite being advertised on the sandwich board as "fresh cut", they certainly seemed to be processed frozen fries. Also, we had to request ketchup, tartar sauce, and napkins once the food finally arrived. Never again. read more

Visit the shop on Canada Day and the manager was the only person running the fish and chips and ice cream shop. nevertheless she ran it efficiently and we got our order in good time. Let me preface by saying that I really, *really* hate giving a low-rating review to a family-run restaurant. Like, really, really, really hate. BUT, this is the second time I've been to Fishboat, and absolutely will be the last. (to be fair, the first time was decent enough to warrant a second visit, but it wasn't that great then either, so the honeymoon ends here.) With only three other tables to tend to, there was absolutely no reason the service should have been as slow and sloppy as it was. But it was just that: slow. And sloppy. The waitress (who couldn't have been more than 17 years old), was hardly to be seen, and when the food finally arrived close to half an hour after ordering (let me remind you that this is a fast food fish and chips joint with only 3 other tables to take care of, not a slammed fine dining restaurant that might have more complex dishes to prepare), it came without cutlery. Fish and chips are one thing (maybe they expected us to be a bit more rustic with it?), but how was I going to eat my salad sans fork? Five minutes after asking for utensils, two forks and zero knives arrived at the table. So, the food: normally I'd never make the mistake of ordering a salad in a fish and chips joint, but with and entire section on the menu dedicated to the green stuff, I thought I was in good hands. Wrong. So wrong. A big ass plate filled with unruly chunks of romaine lettuce, sparsely peppered with two measly cherry tomatoes, a few chunks of unripe avocado, and three massive slices of raw onion made for the most pathetic excuse for a $13 salad I've seen in a looong time. And my partner's fish? Undercooked and floppy, the batter didn't have a crisp bit on it. The fries, though far thicker than a classic chip, were decent, I'll give them that. But how can you mess up a deep fried potato?? I really hope this was a one off, and they were just training new staff or something equally as innocent; but something tells me that this is the norm for Fishboat. Went in here on a whim. Service was very slow. We ordered the "big boat" which was two pieces of fish and chips and we paid a 2.95 upcharge for deep fried pickles on the side. My husband ordered the chicken burger for 10.99 and paid an additional 3.00 for it to be served with fries. The chicken burger was a store bought frozen burger, very thin and almost no toppings on the burger The portion of fries were very small for the 3.00 upcharge. My two pieces of fish were small and the tartar sauce was clearly bottled sauce and not nearly enough. They charge almost 3 dollars for a can of pop which is ridiculous. When our food arrived we still had no napkins or cutlery and had to request it twice. I also had to request for more water several times before I received it. The deep fried pickled never arrived so when we mentioned it they showed up halfway through our meal, Two very thin pickle slices and very greasy. For the 2.95 charge it was not worth it at all. Overall the meal was lackluster and overpriced. For poor food and service, we will never be back. read more

The food here was fantastic! The wait staff (or owners??) were fantastic! The location, fantastic! The ONLY reason for the loss of a star was honestly, the cleanliness of the condiments. The salt and pepper shaker/grinder are made of wood and FILTHY DIRTY on the table. The white(ish) vinegar containers also, dirty. When I say dirty, they are BLACK with use. Tip - spend $20 and get some glass or plastic items that can be washed. NOT sanitary in ANY which way! Now, the food - the fish (ling cod in this case) was delish! Very light batter that was well cooked (no squishy oil soaked mush under the golden crust) and not oily in the least. The fries tasted as home cooked as (I assume) are.... no oily taste here!! The coleslaw was meh. It was fresh, but nothing to write home about. Overall, after the second visit in as many years, this is our favorite place to go! read more

Quite a few bad moves - we sat outside, but after no one showed up I walked up to the counter to ask for service, and the lady there said "yeah, I saw you when you came in but then I didn't know if you sat down or you left". Seriously? When the guy who served us showed up, he dropped the menus on the table rather than hand them to us. We ordered a chicken burger, deep-fried pickles and a portion of fries. Fries and the burger showed up, but the pickles they forgot and we had to remind them after we ate our food. Once they showed up they were dripping with oil. Coke and the ginger ale were served in a can and they still charged the same for each can as they do for a portion of fries. I guess having a good location is enough for this restaurateur to stay in business read more

Best fish and chips in White Rock. Service was great, owner even explained some of the decorations history on the walls. Fish was the best I've had in my search for great fish and chips. Fries were obviously hand cut and fresh, cole slaw was fresh and amazing, even the tartar sauce is obviously homemade with care. I'll be back for sure. read more

This small restaurant serves up pretty good fish and chips. Their fish portions are not skimpy. The service provided by the owner is friendly which compliments the cozy place. Took a day trip to White Rock and wanted lunch - there are like four fish and chips places on the waterfront. Fishboat looked quiet... It is a small place - but quiet. I ordered the small boat (one piece plus fries), my husband had the boat sandwich. We both had sodas (with fresh lime slices yum!). The wait for food wasn't too long and the waiter seemed super nice. He even gave up directions to the mall (were were looking for our favorite potato chips to stock up on and bring back to the US). My fish piece was large, the fries were done really well, the way I like them - thicker sliced, salted nicely! The coleslaw portion was really a dollop - but what I had was delicious. It wasn't overly oily, the breading was really light and crispy. The fish tasted really fresh - it flaked nicely - not a rubber fish by any means!! Loved the tartar sauce - it was fully of dill flavor!! My husband's sandwich came on a large bun, with a large piece of cod, tomato, lettuce and mayo. He said the fish was like mine too. For the two of us with tip was close to $30 - which honestly is pretty comparable to fish and chips around our area. We are looking forward to going back again next time we are in BC.. read more

Checked out a few reviews before deciding to give this place a shot. I'm glad I did. I WAS a fan of another popular place close to this place but I wanted to try something different. The other places I felt were...meh. Nothing special. Being a fan of halibut fish and chip I gave it a shot. Fish and chips is so much better with halibut than cod. Completely random that we stumbled into this little place. Irrelevant long story. But it was a delight. Granted it was January so not super busy but I wonder if the poster who complained about the service realized that they have a takeout window as well as the small handful of tables. And in July when he posted the sidewalk down there is a zoo of demanding tourists. Anyway, we thought the service was great. A pleasant couple, very friendly. And the fish was awesome. The batter has a bit of a kick to it and if you live dangerously they serve it with a jalapeño on the side. My friend said the homemade coleslaw was great (I don't like any coleslaw!) Not good. Here's why . $35 for 3 pieces halibut and chips for two. Halibut was thin like a pancake, chips were sparse not many. They left out our tartar sauce even after I asked for it. Hey boasted it's included no extra charge. to be fair I went back and told them they offered a free piece of halibut next visit, wrote on a promissory note and signed it. I usually post reviews for restaurants that I have enjoyed. Not so on this occasion. The food was below par and the service was incredibly slow. We were giong to order fish Tacos but on the reccomendation of the server we had prawn tacos instead. The prawns, heavily battered and greasy were in tiny tacos with just a few mangoes and tomatoes. The tortilla shells were uncooked and the meal was overpriced. Reminded me of that old joke " the food was terrible...and such small portions. There are excellent fish and chips restaurants on East Beach in White Rock. Thought we would give this a try but definitely will not be back. read more

We wandered over to FishBoat on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was serving 1 table of about 6 people. We thought this would lead us to a quick lunch - it did not. We waited over 45 minutes for our food (we ordered a platter), although the food was good (hot, taste was relatively good albeit the same) we were not asked for refills on our drinks. To add to the charm we overheard (which was not difficult given the 10x10 space) an argument between chef and servers in Punjabi (which I speak fluently) about an incorrect order. Little to say it was unprofessional and continued to tarnish what already was a below average visit. We will not be back. 2 for the fish which had no idea it would be served in such a manner. read more

Had the BEST fish & chips ever here today - wonderful service and the food was absolutely perfect!! I never eat all the fries but today was an exception - very crisp and homemade tasting and the fish was ling cod and perfectly battered. The addition of dill to the tartar sauce was wonderful.
