Cozy little spot right off the G train -- we hit Five Leaves before our concert, and it was indeed the move. Dimly lit and vibey and right behind the outdoor vintage clothes set up. Oysters were decent ($18 for 6). One of the better micheladas ($10) I've had. We split the Charred Shishitos ($13), Heirloom Tomato Salad ($16), and Berkshire Pork Chop ($34), and all in all left comfortably full. The shishito peppers were charred and perfectly crispy, and topped with a healthy handful of pink pickled onions. The Berkshire Pork Chop sat on top of some sauce that my friend couldn't get enough of. I've never had grilled apricots before -- they worked well to soften the meat. I stumbled across Five Leaves after trying to find something in the area using yelp. The place was crowded, in a great location, across from a massive park and surrounded by fly thrift shops. The wait for a table for one was extremely short, they added my name to. A list and texted me when my table was ready. My waitress, wasn't really helpful, I'll attribute that to the fact that she seemed to be working the entire restaurant. I ordered the ricotta pancakes, they were light, fluffy but that was about it. I ordered the sautéed mushroom as a side but there was absolutely no flavor, and I had an americano. All in all, for the price point, it wasn't worth it. Such a great spot in Greenpoint for brunch! Outdoor seating has plenty of shade to keep you cool in the summer. Usually about a 30 minute wait on the weekend but it's worth it! Clearly the owners/ management of this establishment have lost total control as the staff and kitchen do not care at all about the quality of the restaurant in any way. We have been frequenting five leaves for 10+ years/ since we have lived in the neighborhood and has gone from TOP SPOT to truly terrible quality food, beyond rude staff, have had a handful of negative experiences there now and have realized that they would not even make my TOP 30 restaurants in the neighborhood anymore, which is sad. I have been coming here since I moved to the neighborhood in 2009. It has massively gone downhill the last 5-6 years and I've still kept giving it another try, but no more. It is crazy ass expensive (and has been for awhile -- even before the pandemic/inflation) and the food has dipped to mediocre on a good day, and the servers are horrible and as rude as can be. The ambiance is okay (music a bit loud) but you also have to be okay with being packed in like sardines -- and that even includes the outside dining. No thanks and no mas, Five Leaves. NOTE: I think it's very telling that on Google and Yelp reviews for most other restaurants of this ilk in this neighborhood that when Five Leaves gets a seriously bad review, they NEVER respond in any way. On most other restaurant review sites of Greenpoint restaurants you will frequently see a manager or even an owner who will respond with some sort of apology if not even a promise to try to make things right on a subsequent visit. You will notice that NEVER happens for poor Five Leaves reviews. They take their customers for granted and just expect that because it's Five Leaves that they'll just get whatever local wealthy/trustfunder clientele to keep showing up and paying whatever madness they charge no matter how bad the food and service is. The American menu is standard fare and exceedingly hackneyed but is likely why this place has stood the test of time and remains a Greenpoint mainstay, sitting right on the intersection between Bedford Ave, Nassau Ave, and Lorimer St. I've lusted after their stack of picture perfect pancakes but have never wanted to wait long enough for a table, but have been told they don't taste as good as they look. Their reputation for having staff that can't be bothered to serve you have been true for me the few times I've visited. Most recently I walked up to their takeout window to order a coffee and the person inside couldn't wait to get me out of their face. The coffee served was serviceable but not great. read more

I ordered the Big Brekkie, granola bowl, and a croissant . 5/5 stars for the granola bowl! A generous assortment of black berries, blue berries, strawberries and raspberries were paired with scoop of Greek yogurt and slices of banana. All of this was on top of the greatest granola. The granola was slightly sweet and mostly toasty sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, pecans and almond slivers! Not one oat in sight. 3/5 big brekkie with a side of beans and thick cut bacon. Beans were under cooked (you know when beans are slightly crunchy? Not creamy. That's what the beans for me were like. Thick cut bacon was difficult to eat. Tough to cut through, cheesy and almost dry. 2/5 croissant. I don't blame them, croissants are hard and this is a breakfast meal type of place, not a bakery. During my recent New York trip I dragged my husband to Brooklyn and I made sure we were there early before the brunch crowd. That was definitely a good idea because I knew this place would get busy, which it did. We got there right before the rush. This is a pretty small place so I think a big group might be a bad idea. I like that they do try and fit as many tables as they can inside even though it was pretty tight to get into our seats. I did notice while we were eating that I think after 10am they bring out the tables for outdoor seating. I ordered the turmeric latte and wow wow wow it was incredible. They make it with I believe fresh ginger and I think that makes a huge difference. The flavor was so good and the best turmeric latte I've ever had. I wish I had ordered more than one. We split the ricotta pancake because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish on my own. It was delicious, the honeycomb butter really makes the whole dish. I was slightly disappointed with it because I was expecting ricotta pancake to be fluffier than they were. I'm not sure if it's always made that way or if it was because they were very backed up in the kitchen because everyone seemed to order the ricotta pancakes. We got seated at the bar and despite seeing a few empty seats inside and a slew of people (and I mean a slew) waiting outside, the restaurant did not rush to have them seated which I can't figure out why. I would see him adding the coffee half way, then ice and water to fill up the remaining cup (ewww) When he asked me how my food was, my friend tried to tell him I wasn't happy with the coffee and his remark was yeah it weak isn't it. You prolly think you ordered tea instead. Like wtffff?? First he said it's the best thing and highly recommended me to order and now he's being sarcastic (thumps down). I've been a loyal customer of five leaves for a few years now but I'm sad to see that the restaurant staff has become hostile and passive aggressive. My wife and I were greeted with a snarky, fake smile, with underhanded comments--she said "have a wonderful day" sarcastically and rudely--basically saying to get the F out of our superior establishment. She told us to wait outside in the windy cold--immediately. There was some space for two people to stand inside in the warmth and wait but instead this person told us to wait outside for 20 to 30 minutes and did not give the option to call us or find a reasonable way to reach us. We were offered zero accommodations and instead given unnecessary attitude by the blond white chick host "Charlie" (not sure if that's her real name because it's possible she gave a fake name--she knew was being disrespectful to us for literally no reason). I love the Brussel Sprouts and the truffle fries, but not enough to entertain the possibility of dealing with a rude, judgmental, passive aggressive host. Her throwing shade at us to make us leave left a bad taste in our mouths. She seems like the kind of person that would spit in your food and say "enjoy your meal" with a smile. I will definitely tell all of my friends who are also loyal customers to stay away and boycott the restaurant because it is very unprofessional and a little bit foul to be treated with such disrespect for literally no reason at all. I thought this place was great! Found it on Yelp and it had great reviews, so tried it out. Located in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn. There was a short wait for a Saturday brunch, but went rather quickly. They have a good selection of food and drink options available and they are delicious! They even have a walk-up window for takeout! How cool! The restaurant is easy to get to if you drive there, Uber or take the subway. Didn't want to bother finding street/parking lot options, so took the subway. Puts you a block from the restaurant. It was a complete miss. Everything lacked Flavor. The only flavorful item on the plate was the toast . ~My friend ordered the Ricotta pancakes and said there was barely any ricotta in there. However they added an unnaturally massive slab of butter on top of the pancakes which we concluded may have had majority of some sort of flavor. In addition to the lack thereof flavor in the food, where I sat was extremely uncomfortable as my chair kept getting SLAMMED into repeatedly and knowingly by the restaurant staff. No one apologized. The food so took FOREVER to come out. At the end of the lack luster meal they were quick to try and clear our plates . Five Leaves, famed as a cafe that Heath Ledger partly owned, has been around for some time. My friend and I came here on a Saturday morning at 11am. They don't take reservations, and it's hugely popular, so the place was full with no spare seats, and a bunch of waiting diners outside. I put my name down, and the staff member informed me that they don't do text notifications, hence why everyone was standing around waiting. We waited about 20 minutes, as stated, and were seated at a table outside. We decided to split a few things to share- the Moroccan Benedict, fries, and the ricotta pancakes. Everything was superb, and flavorsome. The ricotta pancakes were some of the best pancakes I've had in the US. Service was friendly, but they left without taking our order for a long time, which significantly slowed down our time here.
