I used to frequent five guys back home all the time with my best friend. I do not miss the long lines, crowds, and small eating space that would welcome us once we stepped inside. Finding a table and seat was nearly impossible, and sitting next to someone that didn't mind their space being invaded by your elbows was another story. But, I never stopped going to get my greasy burger fix:) The hubs and I stopped in after our flick of skull island. I am loving the west side now even though it's a good 25 minute drive for us. There is an abundance of new restaurants popping up at the new mall that was built. Anywho, it was bustling with patrons placing orders, eating, and picking up food to go once we entered. Within a few minutes we decided upon a regular cheeseburger with large fries for the hubs, and a little bacon cheeseburger with small Cajun fries with a large drink for me. The cashier was sweet and personable. We ended up eating outside since no tables were available indoors. No problem, it was a nice breezy night in kapolei. I was munching on some free peanuts the hubs gave me while he went to wait for the food. Once the food was ready we unwrapped the foil and dug in. My bacon cheeseburger was ok. The only problem I had was that the bun to meat ratio was unbalanced. I only tasted the bacon and cheese for a good portion of the time while I was eating. The one meat patty was quite thin and tasted unseasoned. However, the Cajun fries was pretty darn tasty:) Overall, we might revisit. The hubs enjoyed his burger, and the place brings back good memories for me. The price may not attract many to revisit, however that is the price to pay for bringing goods and services here from the mainland.:) read more

Imagine having a screaming two-year-old in the car and a one-month-old newborn only to find out that your food isn't even started yet. We ordered with Grubhub and they didn't get the order (not their fault), but what sends me over the edge was I opted to trust this restaurant and jump in the line to order, because their manager said they'd through patties on the grill to expedite the order while I stood in line to pay . That would've been great, except they gave away the patties they said they would cook for me can I still had to stand there just like I never had a conversation with them. I have very much enjoyed five guys burgers in the past but this particular location is the worst. I will never go to this chain ever again. The employees were extremely rude and aggressive. The fountain station was putting out yellow colored water. The burger was cold. And they were too lazy to fix their own restroom. read more

Hot damn! These burgers were a hot mess, in the best way possible. I ordered the little cheeseburger all the way with all the condiments and BBQ sauce. I'm drooling just reminiscing of the burger. I loved the fact that I could put as many toppings as my heart desires. My burger had tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, at least 3 different types of condiments, mushrooms, caramelized onions, just to name a few ingredients. All of that was stuffed in between a sesame seed bun. I would've opted for ALL the toppings and go all the way, all the way, but I had dessert before dinner. Needless to say, I love the combination of the condiments. However, I thought the meat patty was slightly dry. So having an abundance of sauce compensates for the dry burger. Bought a bacon cheeseburger last night and it was horrible. Worst burger I've had in years. It's soggy and not freshly made as advertised. It tasted cold and no flavor. It seemed like it was made half hour ago and wrapped it in tin foils. That's why the bread was soggy. They can't compare to "in n out" burger. Where they actually make their burgers fresh per order. I come here regularly after biking 25-35 miles around Ewa. My buddy loves burgers & likes Five Guys best. It also works for us because there are 5 round tables outside where we can sit, eat & watch our bikes. I like Five Guys because their burgers are tasty & juicy! Plus I love grilled onions & grilled mushrooms, both among the options available to you. I also get pickles & mustard. Lately, because I'm eating less wheat/bread, I've asked for a bun-less burger and, even though it's not on the menu, they already have the option in their system as a "lettuce wrap". A bite of university life. I used to check out Five Guys hella often back when I was at university up in Seattle. They may not have THE best burger but they have one of the best burger joint brand experience. The burgers are on point and I often get extra fries so I dig it. I honestly haven't tried anything else because I come here and get straight to the business. From the eye catching red and white walls, open for view food prep station and menu options, this spot encompasses the 1940-1970's era burger joint. A tasty ode to the good times. read more

STICKER SHOCK!! Ok, so I've eaten at 5 Guys in the Seattle area, and I sure don't remember paying $12 for a burger there. . . I do recall it being delicious and being able to order any and all toppings. I also recall those fresh made Cajun fries and snacking on shell on peanuts while waiting for my order. . . . So imagine my excitement when I learned that 5 guys were coming to Hawaii. There's one in Mililani, but last time I was up there, it was brand new and folks were lined up out the door. So while we were at the new Mall on the Westside, I was so darn excited to see a 5 Guys at the food court area. We tentatively approached the entrance . . was it lined up out the door? No! In fact, there were only about 5 people in line. YES!! So, skipping through the door excitedly, we got it in line. Looking up at the menu I see Bacon Cheeseburger - $12!!?? Does it come wit a drink or fries for that price? To my horror, I realized, NO. Just the burger. I realize this is Hawaii, but come on. $12 for a burger? Ok, but this is 5 Guys. We decided to suck it up and go for it. $60 and 20 minutes later (3 bacon burgers, 1 large Cajun fries and 3 drinks) we were finally enjoying our 5 guys!! Will I go back? Maybe. I seriously just have a hard time shelling out that kind of dough for a burger. Its just a burger. The toppings make it "kind of" worth it. Pros: you can watch the food being prepared you can snack on peanuts in the shell while you wait (beware peanut allergy people - there is no way you can escape - open containers of peanuts all over the place - do not even come in) Unlimited toppings Cons: Pricey Busy seating is limited inside, but can go out to the food court and dine For an occasional treat, I'll be back . . but for my everyday burger fix, there are too many options for about 1/2 the price...... read more

Decided to try the online ordering this past weekend. Was very easy and convenient (not sure on price but typically its more to order online so that wasn't a concern). Was very easy to pick up our food and we appreciated that they don't make certain food until you get there (keep that in mind though) if you're on a time crunch. Will be back. read more

FOOD: I've been wanting to come here since people always rave about it. I got a cheese burger with "everything" minus mayo and ketchup. My boyfriend also got a cheeseburger with lettuce, grilled mushrooms and A1 sauce. And of course we had to get fries! I'm not a big fan of thicker fries so when I saw them I was thinking I wasn't going to like them...but they were so good! I didn't think they were going to be crunchy, but they were! I think I went a little crazy with my burger toppings that it was a little overwhelming. The burger patty itself was cooked perfectly but overall I thought the burger was average but not amazing. I think next time I'll try a different spread on it. I tried my boyfriends burger and the A1 sauce on it was really good! The free peanuts was also nice to munch on while we waited on our food. ATMOSPHERE: clean and casual. It's pretty cold in here so bring a jacket! Lol they also have some outside seating. SERVICE: staff was very friendly and explained the different options to us. The first time I tried Five Guys was actually in Philadelphia and I remember thinking, "Now this is a BURGER!" So, I was surprised to learn not only were they opening a location in Hawaii but right here in Kapolei, sweet. I love the 60's diner feel and it's literally one of the first places you see when coming in from the Waikiki end of the mall. The menu does not disappoint but it would be nice if they offered meals or combos. My burger, fries, and shake came out to almost $20.00. To be fair they do give free peanuts, too bad they don't play baseball games on the big screen. I wouldn't mind enjoying my food with a White Sox game. Don't get me wrong the food was good but not $20.00 for one person kind of good. As for the shake, I still think Teddy's make the best ones. Of course whenever it comes to eating the last thing I think about is taking pictures of my food, so here are pictures of the menu and my chocolate shake. read more

Pricey. And I am not sure that you get what you are paying for. The burgers are decent but not worth the $10+ you spend just for the burger. For a burger fries and drink and if u maybe add in a shake you are talking in the area of $20-$25 per meal just to eat at a burger place! Shakes are ok but again for the price it is not better than a shake from Jack in the Box. The food is edible and the burgers do taste good so it is worth 3 stars. I just feel they need to step it up to make the higher price of a simple burger worth it. Another suggestion I would have is to order up as far as how u like it cooked. If u want medium ask for medium well as they tend to undercook, at least that was my experience. read more

It's a 1 star today since they're taking too damn long and for other reasons. First it's been 20 mins and still haven't gotten our burgers. Mind you... there are only 2 other people who ordered before us. STILL WAITING.... People who ordered after us... got they're burgers.... Opening weekend at Ka Makana Alii. The line is crazy long, but the burgers oh so good. The burgers are one price, and all the toppings you can choose from. Hubs got the regular size, but I prefer the little. Burgers are made fresh to order, so be prepared to wait. There is a line just for shakes, so no need to wait in the long line if all you want is a shake. There's a sign on the wall to tell you where your potatoes are from and peanuts to snack on while you wait. I prefer the Cajun fries, they are so yummy. There's the fancy soda machine with tons of options for drinks. If you want a good burger, you gotta try Five Guys. read more

I love a good burger once in a while. I'm not the biggest Burger fan but if I'm gonna eat one I'd like it to be better than McDonalds. I placed an online order after seeing the long lines for a couple days. It was off by five minutes it well worth the wait. The reason I had to wait was they make your fries fresh when you order. When I walked through the door the young man at the pick up counter called my name. When I responded her dropped my fries. I thought he was calling because my food was ready. So tip on online orders. Be prepared to wait an additional five minutes when you walk in to pick up and let them know you are there so they get your fries going. The fries are exactly my flavor of saltiness. If you don't want too much salt let them know. I like salty. There's dry peanuts by the bags in the dining area when you walk in and it's free for all. The shakes are beautiful but I didn't get one this time I ordered a little cheeseburger topped with grilled onions & grilled mushrooms. No ketchup or nothin. It was divine. The Burger was juicy. Onions were perfectly grilled and the mushrooms still had that juicy pop when you nite into them. The bun was nothing extraordinary but nice and soft and that was good enough for me. Sorry to keep going back to the fries, but... when you order fries they package your fries and entire meal in the paper bag then toss in an w tea scoop of fries. See my photo. Eager to check out the recently opened Ka Makana Ali'i mall in Kapolei, my wife and I set out for lunch at Five Guys. We've previously dined at a Five Guys on the mainland a while back but couldn't quite recall what our impressions were (an excellent reason to write about your impressions on Yelp for future reference). As expected, there was a long line of customers waiting to order. The place is relatively compact (code for small with only 7-8 tables for inside seating with one table surrounded by bar stool type chairs). We liked the complimentary peanuts (although we didn't partake) as well as the soda machines providing seemingly unlimited combinations. We also liked the sign indicating where the potatoes came from. Thought that was a cool touch. We ordered a hamburger for my wife and I ordered their cheeseburger with everything (or as they say, All the Way). We also shared regular Cajun fries and a regular drink. As we were hunting for a table, a customer with his construction attire was about to finish his lunch. I asked him if he liked his meal and he said it was OK but expensive...and that pretty much summed up our sentiments as well. While we liked the fresh-cut Cajun fries, the burger lacked flavor and fell well short of our expectations. I also didn't like the fact our hamburger buns were not warm when we got them...despite the fact my wife saw buns being grilled. Having tried burgers from In-N-Out and Shake Shack as well as local burger joints like Teddy's and Kua Aina, we felt those other burgers were better...dare I say, much better. I usually don't give 5 star reviews, but 5 Guys earned it for sure. You pay a base price for a burger, and all toppings are free! All orders are made right in front of you, fresh, and transparent. When the food is ready for order, it's packed neatly in a to go bag (the only way they pack food), temperature is kept with an aluminum foil wrapper. That all being said... let me get into the flavors and food. I usually order the burger or the bacon burger, both excellent, everything from the bun to the burger is fresh. It's a really "soft" burger IMO. It's not a simple 1/2lb hockey puck, they're hand formed 1/4lb patties. And since toppings are free, I usually load up with grilled onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, etc. Lastly, I'm giving this place the full 5 for preservation. If I didn't eat a burger that was a day old and completely enjoy it, I wouldn't have given it to them. But damn. Was that a good burger. It was about 10:30am one day and I saw a line forming outside of Five Guys. I wasn't really craving a hamburger for wanted something sweet. We first encountered Five Guys when we lived in Portland after high school. So when we moved back and they opened in Kapolei we were so happy. The Cajun fries are the bestttt and they don't only fill your cup, but throw extra in the bag too. My bf (big eater) and I are able to share a large and still have left over. He always gets whatever the biggest bacon burger is "all the way" and I always get the veggie with barbecue sauce and jalapeños. I love that it gives you a backyard barbecue burger feel. Not bad!! It was my first time here and I was kinda confused about the sizing ....I assumed since there was no kids menu that the one patty burger would be like a kids size or a small?? Anyway I should have read the other reviews because all I needed was a one patty burger. The cashier tried to answer my questions but he was really young and when I asked him to compare it to something( Teddy's,Kua'Aina, McDonald's) his answer was lost in translation. Oh well .....so I ended up with a dbl patty bacon burger which I got all the way which means with everything(mushroom,onion,ketchup,mustard, pickles) a regular fries which I thought was medium and a salted caramel milkshake. So the fries is a huge serving ....for 2 of us the regular was just too much!! All I needed was small and the burger was enough for adult/child spilt. Because it had so much going on the bun was soggy and it started falling apart immediately but it was good and they provide forks/knives and napkins so no complaints although it's messy!! My favorite part was the milkshake = delicious. So grand total for dbl patty bacon burger - regular fries and 1 salted caramel milkshake $25!!! Nothing comes in combos or kids meals so your looking at full price even for your kiddos!! Luckily my kiddo was willing to share and the burger/fries was enough to share! Five Guys just opened in Ka Makana Ali'i in Kapolei. Their burgers and fries are probably the best on the island but it'll cost you. We had the bacon cheeseburger, 2 little bacon burgers, regular Cajun fries, and 3 regular drinks - $42!! The drinks alone were $3.29 each! Prices were about 50% higher than the mainland. The AYCE peanuts were cool - wish they were boiled. Leaving shells on the floor is allowed but we kama'ainas clean our own rubbish. Still, the burgers were onolicious! For my money, Teddy's gives me a better bang for my buck. read more

This must be the worst burger experience I've ever had ! First impressions is that it's pricey there . But they got a sign that says " the Willy wonka of burgers " - Washington times . So I decided to still get my burger fix there . I order the bacon little which has one patty with all the fixings . And a small fries . They don't give complimentary water so I got a bottle water . My total came out to $22 with tip . While I was waiting for my order I was hearing complaints for one of the staff about how shitty his job is . He was working with what looks like high school kids that is probably their first job and they showed more maturity and respect for the work place then the older employee. I thought he was very loud and destructive for the moral of the young workers . My food came quickly since I was the only one in the store . I started with the fries . Good not great and and looks like Disney land price and portion. My bacon little was a joke . I took three decent sized bites and didn't even reach the patty yet .I know I ordered a bacon little but why have a patty that's about half the size of the bun . I was so focused on my patty that I didn't realize I didn't have any bacon on my sandwich. I calmly asked for my bacon and the employee grabbed and crumbled up bacon for my sandwich while it was in my hand lol . There's a lack of leadership here . I don't know what the hype is about this place. It's a decent burger, but for the price it I would rather go to someplace like Teddy's or something. I guess it kind of just depends on what you like... yes, you can customize your burger with whatever for free, but to me it is kind of gimicky. There was just something missing for me. I was already prepared for the prices after trying the Mililani location a few months ago. Had the cheeseburger, Oreo shake, and regular fries. The burger tasted fresh, juicy, and delicious! Cheese could've been melted a little more, though. The Oreo shake was tasty and the fries were pretty good. I generally prefer crispier fries. Their fries are on the softer side, but not bad. Another excellent meal. My order was correct and I didn't have to repeat it multiple times to the cashier. The staff seems young but they work quickly and well together. My burgers were hot and fresh and even a small order of fries is a lot. Although most people would think it's crazy to pay almost $30 for a bacon cheeseburger, small hamburger, small fries and small drink in a fast food type restaurant, the service and quality of the meal is worth it. read more
