Until one day we grabbed dinner here with another family and I had to eat here, and I was shocked in the best way. I scanned the menu for something I could eat thinking I'm only eating fries, but then I saw the grilled cheese....and then I saw additional toppings are no extra charge?! And they serve mushrooms?! I added on that protein with veggies with ridiculous excitement. While waiting for the food, I really do appreciate that you can see it all being made, so I'm surprised no one talks about it for it's apparent freshness. And comparing the price for what you get, I hope they continue to stick around. The aesthetic of the place just screams old hospital with all the bright lights and white and red, and it kind of hurt my eyes so I'll eat here again, just not stick around. Call me crazy, but I liked the grilled cheese. Everything was smashed well that allowed the bread to melt together and be held by the cheese. I also appreciate the mushrooms being added and everything was good for the price. Why did I take a star off? Just needs a little more work cleaning. When we went, there was no one inthere, so there's no excuse for the kids chair being dirty with soda spilled on it and it was there before we walked in for who knows how long. After a few years of steering clear of Five Guys due to the steep prices, my family finally gave the Kapolei location a try - and I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The burger? Easily 5 stars. Hot, fresh, and loaded with flavor. If you're in the Ka Makana area and craving a solid burger, Five Guys beats nearby options like EARL, hands down! My whole family was happy with their meals, and that says a lot. The service? Also 5 stars. The cashier was super patient and helpful, even with our indecisiveness. Major shoutout there. Now, the fries... Eh, 3 stars at best. While you definitely get a generous portion (they famously overflow into the bag), the flavor just didn't hit. They use peanut oil, but to me, it tasted more like peanut shells... you know, that dry, woody flavor that reminds you why you're not supposed to eat them. At $9 for a large, I expected something special, not just greasy. The oil also soaked through the bottom and sides of the paper bag, so next time, I'll ask for a double bag if taking it to go. My wife and I stopped by for a hamburger this afternoon. We ordered a cheeseburger, a hamburger, medium order of fries and a chocolate shake for my wife. I opted for no drink as I am on a low calorie diet and do not like all the processed ingredients in diet soda. The staff was very nice and responsive, but after getting a few bites into the burger, which was very dry, I needed some water. I went back to the counter and I told the young lady who had taken my order that I needed a cup of water. She told me that they had run out of cups for complementary water, so I asked her what I should do and suggested that restaurants were obligated by law to provide water when requested. ( I subsequently have found out that this is surprisingly not true here in Hawaii) she said she would check with her manager. A young man came back and asked if he could help. I explained I was trying to get a cup of water. He said they do not provide complimentary water so I again suggested my inaccurate legal argument. He said he would get the manager. At this point based on the sales girl's comment I assumed he was the manager, so I was surprised. Now another employee showed up and asked if she could help and I said I am just trying to get a cup of water. She seemed pretty upset that I had used my legal argument on the prior employees. I protested and she said " if you would have simply asked for a cup of water... the law in Hawaii does not require us to provide water. I told her I did ask both prior employees first for a cup of water before I mentioned my legal argument, but she walked away and when I repeated that I had "asked for a cup of water first" and she backed away and said "you are making me uncomfortable!" I responded that as a manager she should be able to discuss an issue with a customer. At this point she said she was going to call security so I said fine and went back to my lunch with my wife. I am 73 years old and have never been refused a cup of water in a restaurant of any type. What deplorable customer service. Which really works for him because he lives close by. So, let's hope he gets some good reviews. This location has A LOT of young adults working here. And I consider my son to be a young adult BUT... in his case, he's actually much older than these "adults" who he manages. So I'm going to say this place is yummy, delicious and awesome! After watching a movie at Olina Consolidated Theater, we walked around for a bit and decided to try Five Guys for a burger and fries. I checked Yelp to see the reviews and I was a little hesitant to try it. However, first hand reviews are the best right? The place is clean and it has a gender free bathroom. You will need to ask for the code to use the restroom. The menu is straightforward and you can have unlimited toppings! I was surprised by that. I ordered a little burger (one patty) with grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise and a side of A-1 sauce to try. My hubby ordered a regular hamburger (2 patties) with everything on top lol. We also ordered a regular size Cajun fries and a drink. The burgers were juicy and flavorful 4/5 stars. I couldn't finish my burger. It was a lot. The Cajun fries were too salty and rubbery ? Not crispy and somewhat undercooked? 2/5 stars. So listen, we almost ate at another restaurant, but they were taking their sweet time like we had nothing better to do (like eat, hello?). So we made a last minute decision to hit up Five Guys... at 8:45pm. They close at 9. And if you've ever worked in food, you know that's basically like walking in during someone's closing prayer. I braced myself for the sighs, the side eyes, the "ugh why are you here so late" energy. BUT NONE OF THAT HAPPENED. The vibe? Immaculate. The staff? A whole vibe. The young lady at the register? Sweet as a strawberry milkshake on a summer day. She smiled, she took her time, she made us feel WELCOME....not rushed. She even threw in a few menu tips like, "Hey, don't sleep on this item" and I was like, "YES, MA'AM, SAY LESS." The boys in the back? Real MVPs. Today was the first time I went to Five Guys. Glad I did. The young girl at the register was very nice and helpful. I was surprised to see how expensive the hamburgers are. I ordered the little burger which consisted of one patty and all the fixings. I also ordered a shake. I was curious to see how thick and Rich the shakes would be. The young girl patiently answered all of my questions and I ended up getting a combo of chocolate malt shake. The hamburger was delicious the meat tasted very fresh and I had all the fixings except the onions and I added some grilled jalapeños. The shake was good, not too sweet, but it got sweeter at the end. I would definitely stop at five guys the next time I see one. Unfortunately I don't think they have any in town. I got the Bacon cheese burger lettuce wrap! It was actually really good! They did forget the Mayo though. The guy was really friendly and provided good customer service. I remember in the past there was this lady (manager) and she was rude, so it's good they probably have better management. Always new workers though, new faces every month. It's a really good place to grab a fresh and delicious burger. It is more on the pricey side as everything is Ala cart. The A/C is nice to get a break from the sun and don't forget your peanuts!!! I got a cheeseburger All the way (Mayo, Lettuce, Pickle, Tomatoes, Grilled Mushroom, Ketchup, Grilled Onion, Mustard) and I added Green Peppers with a medium fry. You know shockingly it's pretty damn good hamburger place I got admit. Kind of like an In-N-Out Burger here in Hawaii. The food is pretty good. I would recommend it anybody else on travel here. You'll probably not find local people eating here but you'll find a lot of happy tourists. read more

Well.... It's been a while since Five Guys first opened up on the islands. There's been a lot of hype about this place and their burgers. I FINALLY had the opportunity to try them! I walked into the Kapolei location. Clean. Very nostalgic looking. It's a good ole' fashioned burger joint! Being that this is my first time here, I opted for two orders of their most popular items, Cheeseburger and fries. It might have taken 10 minutes for my order to come up. Not a very long wait. Especially when you engage in a conversation with the friendly manager! I brought my order back to the office and dug in. Fries are the "soggy" type; not crispy. Skin on. I actually like it! I unwrap my burger and immediately, my mind is trying to get a grasp of how I'm going to eat this monstrosity! Two all beef patties with melted cheddar, lettuce, tomato slices, some sliced pickles, on a bed of grilled onions and mushrooms. The beef patties are quality ground beef. But I was expecting something with seasoning.... I assume beef lovers will appreciate the fact that it doesn't seem to have fillers. Unfortunately, it also doesn't have salt, pepper or anything else for that matter. I think the biggest "WOW" moment was when my order was rung up: $45 for two burgers and fries!? The slices of pickles were just OK. (To date, the best pickles found in a sandwich is Popeye's chicken sandwich. My personal opinion, of course!) Personally, While I don't think it's bad, I believe that the burgers are WAY overpriced. For $14 each, I would have wanted a bit of salt and maybe the aroma of Rosemary in my burger. $14 for a burger! Somebody really has a high opinion about their food! I've only been here a couple of times, but I've never really understood the hype behind it. The biggest flaw is that they don't have salt on their burgers or fries. They were so bland that I needed ketchup to make up for it. It's pretty hard to make a burger and fries without salt. For a meal that costs a little over $20, I expected better quality for the price. Now, I'm not saying that I dislike this place, but I would say it's decent at best. If I'm in the area, I might eat here again because it did fill me up. The reason I'm giving three stars is that I've never had any particular issues with customer service at this location, so that's a plus for me. Also, for $20, I feel like I could get better quality food--maybe even for less than $20, considering inflation. Pretty good value and decently tasting burgers. Great location. Great customer service and greatly appreciated their ability to adjust for dietary restrictions. One suggestion I might make is to switch to Romain lettuce for the bun-less lettuce "wrap" instead of Iceberg as it provides more taste and nutrients...Didn't sample anything else on the menu. They seem to have a good following, but when I visited the establishment wasn't crowded... just two families eating and two ladies waiting for their to go order. Went in to just order fries, the staff was working on orders and waited at the registers to assist me. One worker seen me but didnt acknowledge me or call to someone to ring me up. Waited for a few mins until someone from the back came out. Didn't say hi or sorry. I order my fries. I sat down to wait. When I sat down there were no orders to be made so the staff was talking among themselves. There was one more person waiting for his food as well. I did notice there were fries being cooked so I figured that was mine. Once it was done she scooped it up and put it in a bag for the other customer. And then continued talking to her co-workers. I can see my ticket on her station hanging. One of her co-worker in black notice there was an order which was mine. So she decided to put a basket of fries in the fryer but the co-worker in black pulled it out and told her to scrape the sides of the other fries to season and give that to me. I got a double patty cheeseburger with hot sauce and jalapeños and pretty much "All the Way." It was so so good. Beware of the hot sauce - gets everywhere. We placed a phone order for drive-up pickup and it was easy-peezy. Veggie "sandwich" with cheese all-the-way for the vegetarian teen and this pescatarian. It's in a burger bun, but they refer to it on the menu as a sandwich. Why oh why? Note: there's really no way to eat this sandwich-burger neatly, so not really recommended for the fancy, but please share if you're fancy and figure it out. And although I ordered for drive up, I walked in to pickup and it was pretty busy with diners at every other table inside and tables outside filled, plus a line 4 people deep.
