Now the downside, I do think they could be more organized at controlling the flow of sitting people. We did end up waiting awhile, but seeing people literally yell at the staff was out of pocket. Got into linenaround 4:45 and waited in the sun. They cant really control the weather so the wait was a bit difficult but they tried to move us along as fast as possible. Servers were kind and hard working. I didnt expect it to be super fast as it was the soft opening and likely first time around for everyone, but they were accommodating and kind. I ordered the karaage and signature ramen and was able to try out the takoyaki. All were very delicious and worth the wait. The ramen broth was creamy and the noodles were the best ive had on island. The space was also well decorated and had a nice feel to it. Entering the shop the employees would shout and it added a nice little event to the store. I arrived around 3:40 on Saturday and wasn't part of the first seating. The hostess added us to the wait list when they opened at 4 and we had about an hour wait. I was told the first people start to line up closer to 3 to be part of the first seating. Once seated, service was very quick! Our waitress, Hunter, was quick to bring water and take our orders. Food came out fast too! The noodles, made partially with mochi flour, have a nice chew to it. The broth is rich and creamy; chashu is tender too. It's a little pricey for all of the ramen bowls, but the gourmet broth justifies the cost. There aren't many places outside of town that have this kind of ramen. I'd gladly stop by again even with the wait time. Just don't go too late or you'll find yourself killing 2+ hours of time at the mall. read more

tl;dr: Excellent food and service, but a *very* long waitlist. This isn't anyone's fault; the place is just that popular right now. Until the initial hype settles down, you should get there early or go on a less-busy day. ----------- Dad and I arrived at around 5:10-ish, only to discover that the waitlist was already estimated to be an hour long, with 15+ other groups ahead of us in "line". We were very surprised and a little dismayed, but since it was a new place, we decided to wait it out. As it turned out, it was actually almost two(!) hours before dad and I finally got seated - long enough that some other groups waiting with us eventually gave up and went somewhere else to eat. We probably should have gotten here as soon as they opened in order to get a faster spot (but even then, I think we would've had a wait time). Note that despite what some other reviews have said, I *don't* think this is a service or management problem. It just comes down to the fact that it's a relatively small place that a ton of people are interested in. It seems like the kind of restaurant that would benefit from a building that's double the size of the one they're actually in. (Then again, it's hard to say how much of that interest is because of their relative newness.) (Side-note: our server told us that Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun are their busier days.) ----------- Once dad and I finally got seated, however, the overall experience was... excellent! Great food, great service. The wait-staff all seemed very attentive. I downed half my water glass as soon as our server brought it, and another server swooped in to fill it back up. I also ordered a matcha/strawberry soda and that arrived within five minutes or so. Dad and I ordered ramen, while our neighboring tables got appetizers. The latter arrived very quickly, and dad and I got our ramen shortly after that. All in all, I was very pleased with the service. ----------- The ramen itself was excellent. I ordered the duck matcha ramen, while my dad ordered shrimp G.K.O. bowl. Compared to places like Goma Tei or Ramen Bones, everything felt significantly higher quality. The noodles in particular are probably the best ramen noodles I've had on-island - they've got a perfect chew. The dusk matcha is surprisingly mild thanks to the matcha oil and pistachios. There weren't quite as many veggies as I expected, but there were a lot *more* duck charsiu slices than I first thought. I could see it being a good choice for a noodle newbie (so to speak). Dad's ramen had a lot of shrimp inside, as well as some whole chunks of garlic (on top of the black garlic oil and chili oil). When I tried a quick scoop of his broth, it was extremely flavorful (I actually liked it more than my duck matcha broth!). He seemed extremely satisfied overall. I was coming to Ka Makana Ali'i to meet a friend to go to the poke fest. In the back of my mind, I remembered that the new Mensho opened recently. I used to live in San Francisco and had been to the one there a few times. I am so happy it is here on Oahu, although I do live on the town side. Since I was at Ka Makana Ali'i, after getting off the bus, I headed straight for the new Mensho to check it out, not really having a plan. I noticed a line was starting to form so of course, I jumped in too, not knowing what the line was for exactly. I remembered they started handing out numbered tickets for seating so that people didn't have to wait to be seated in the hot sun. I asked the guy in front of me what time they were giving out tickets. He said 3 o'clock. I looked at my watch, and it said, no kidding, 2:59! What?! Ok, I quickly texted my friend who I was meeting, change of plans, let's go to Mensho! So, I got us two tickets and we were instructed to come back at 3:45 in line to be seated. Ok, totally excited! My friend came and we walked around. We came back in line and stood outside with everyone briefly. It was hot and sunny so good thing, we went inside fairly quickly. People with no numbered tickets were mixed in the line - they were checked in online and would be called in order when their table was available. We had our tickets so we were seated right away. We got seats at the counter - so excited! Hunter was our server (local girl, super friendly, checked on us nicely, great service!). The Shrimp G.K.O. and Clam Butter Shio ramen are the two dishes that are only available here - woo! We wanted to share dishes, so we picked the Clam Butter Shio (I love clams and butter - ooo, don't need to tell me twice!), plus Abura Soba (a dry noodle with this wonderful house-made chashu shoyu sauce) and an order of their famed Enoki (mushrooms) Chips (I remembered this from the San Francisco location, must have!). The Clam Butter Shio ramen is definitely a favorite of our meal, and the crunch of the enoki chips was a great balance. While we were at Mensho, it was started pouring rain outside - I mean, pouring rain where even the locals quickly scattered! Nonetheless, we quickly forgot what was going on outside and enjoyed ourselves! The place has great, inviting energy, and you feel like you stepped into a back alley of Japan where only the best eating places are. I hope Mensho does so well that they open another location closer to town so I can go more often. In the meantime, I'm so happy Mensho is here on Oahu!! E Komo Mai and Mahalo Nui for being here!! And by the way, the rain stopped as we were getting ready to leave - the sun was shining and it was hot again like nothing happened! Beautiful Ramen restaurant! Decor, atmosphere, service was on point! For a place that just opened I was amazed at the service that was provided. Attentive, efficient and professional! Now we arrived about 5:50 signed in and was told to return at 6:45. Not bad of a wait at all. I did notice though the place was less crowded when we left at about 8ish. The food was amazing and brought the feels of Japan :) we ordered Wagyu Ramen, Duck Matcha Ramen, Wagyu Kani Ikura sushi and Chicken Karaage. Karaage crispy and flavorful drizzled with a sweet sauce with slices of eggplant! The sushi was a perfect bite of Wagyu, crab and Ikura. Both ramen broths rich with flavor but the Duck Matcha was delicious. Base is pork broth with Matcha oil. It has just a hint of Matcha flavor but the broth was green. The slivers of duck were tender and tasty. I love Duck! Left satisfied but be aware it could be pricy. For the 2 ramen, Karaage and sushi it totaled to $104 with tip. The restaurant has a great ambiance and the staff were all very friendly. Our server Robson did great with our drinks and food! We ordered a variety of appetizers and finished our meal off with the Signature Ramen. The Fried Enoki Mushrooms were great! There was a nice crunch and it was a great addition to my ramen. Maguro Carpaccio was definitely not good. The sauce is a matcha flavor and I didn't care for that flavor. The maguro was fishy and at room temperature when served. Chicken Karage came out crunchy and hot. The sauce was great, but I would prefer sauce on the side. A5 Wagyu with Uni Nigiri was okay, I felt like my piece was a bit slimy. The Uni on its own was great. A5 Wagyu with Truffle was okay. The Wagyu on its own was okay, but the Truffle definitely elevated this dish. The Corn Wings were great and I definitely recommend. Drinks were great. The Coke is in glass bottles and the draft beer we ordered came out nice and cold. The Signature Ramen was good. The broth is nice and rich. The noodles had a perfect chewiness to it and the dish came out at a nice hot temperature. Definitely recommend trying the Signature Ramen! So excited to finally have Mensho here at Ka Makana Aliʻi! The vibe inside is beautiful, and the food absolutely lives up to the hype.I ordered the clam ramen and the calamari, and I was so impressed. The flavors were fresh and perfectly balanced. My husband got the G.K.O. Ramen and the spicy karaage. Word of warning on the karaage: it is extremely spicy! My boys love ramen so I had to be a team player and join in on the fun at Mensho's soft opening! We were probably the 6th party in line, thank God because the line got long super quick!!!! We ordered the karaage (it was alright), the wagyu and hotate nigiri (perfection!), the signature (the boys loved it), garlic gko (sooo goooood, Oishii desu ne!), and clams (we didn't know this was a ramen dish but so yummy!). Love that the menu has a variety, but I was really surprised by the chicken broth and noodle texture. It was sooooo good, I definitely see the hype!!! The service was top tier, kudos to the server who kept topping off our water! The spot is a perfect size, definitely a good size for the west side, and love the ambiance of a true ramen establishment. We briefly spoke with the owner and he was really nice and humble, so was the lady who showed us the menu, I'm going to assume she's an owner too. We waited in line starting at 5:00 PM for the grand opening on May 2, 2026, and didn't get seated until 8:30 PM. It was quite a wait, but that is to be expected for a grand opening! ​The Food & Ambiance - The food was amazing; the sushi, in particular, was delicious and fresh. The ambiance and music were lovely, giving off a vibe similar to a "ramen version of Doraku." While they did forget our sushi order initially, the staff handled it perfectly. ​The Service - The service was excellent across the board. I'm not just talking about our server; the entire team--from the hosts and food runners to the bussers and managers--was fantastic. Even the younger staff members were incredibly polite, which gave me hope that great customer service isn't dead! ​The Verdict - The food is pricey, and being a bit frugal myself, I'm not entirely sure the cost is justified. I've tried countless ramen places on this island for the past 36 years and this place is truly one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I gave my "signature" ramen bowl that had shredded crab added to it a 9.8/10. The broth was other worldly/ god tier. So robust and filled with rich flavor, broke the entire mouth bangahs. Mo cherry den dis I don't think so. Never mind anybody who gives this place less than 5 stars, their opinion is straight rubbah. Trust me when I say their ramen is a certified pleasure for the senses and Oahu is blessed to have this place just open up. We came at 5:00 PM and got a number from the worker and cruise partied around the shopping center til 7:20 and then it was lights, camera, taste explosion. Entrees came out before appetizers, the ramen was very flavorful. Signature is what I had and I honestly was unique from all the different meat selections, all was great! Wasn't that much a fan of the mochi noodles but it still was good. The karaage chicken basically was orange chicken with a bunch of sauce and eggplants. The calamari was good just basic calamari and nori on top nothing crazy. The enoki was good as well, didn't come with a dipping sauce but came with seasoning which was confusing. The ramen broth is dreamy creamy with flavors galore. The noodles are excellent and a little chewy. The star of the night was the wagyu truffle sushi. I couldn't believe how much shaved truffle were on the Wagyu, but the taste explodes in your mouth. Unbelievable. Randomly stopped by Mensho at the mall after spotting this new spot and I'm so glad we did. We grabbed a number and honestly didn't have to wait long at all. Everything we tried was amazing. My son loved every single thing -- especially the calamari, wagyu bowl, classic ramen, and the matcha pudding. The ramen broth was super creamy and flavorful, and the matcha pudding was easily one of my favorite desserts. The workers were all so great and attentive the entire time, which made the experience even better. Loved the aesthetic and overall vibe too. Food is good and fairly priced (quality of meat and produce are up to par). GKO Ramen broths are thick and rich. It's labeled spicy but it's not very spicy.. It's like level 1 spice (Sriracha is spicier than this). The meat in the soup doesn't show but it's covered underneath the garnishes (rich, tender & right amount of fat). Their carpaccio is amazing if you love zesty yuzu flavor. It's covered in matcha but the yuzu overpowers it.. honestly would come back for the carpaccio. The meat is not too thin & not too thick.. After returning home from Japan where that's where you get the real deal, this place is no different from what we get here locally. With the amount of staff working the joint they will definitely have to lay off people very soon. Like always, any new place in Ewa beach will be popular at first but it never lasts if the food is not outstanding. We arrived around 4:45-4:50 PM and were added to the waitlist at 4:50. We were told the wait would be around 7-8 PM. Not long after we left, we received a text saying our estimated wait time was 5:25-5:40, which made no sense given the original estimate. Because of the confusion, we did go back to check with the waitress, but she said she had no idea what happened and told us to just wait for the final table-ready text. In the end, we didn't actually get seated until around 8 PM. The entire waitlist process felt extremely disorganized and unreliable. The ramen itself was good, but the service completely ruined the experience. After finishing our ramen, we ordered a sushi item and waited 15-20 minutes with nothing coming out. We had to follow up ourselves a couple of times, which is unacceptable. In the end, my husband and I decided to just skip it and ask for the check. At that point, the owner offered to comp the sushi, but by then we were so frustrated that we didn't even want it anymore. I understand that the restaurant may be newly opened, but this level of disorganization clearly reflects a lack of preparation and staff training. Surprisingly very smooth service and amazing food for a restaurant that just opened 7 days ago. The food was amazing and reasonably priced! All the workers were very kind and patient. I loved everything from the food to the decor and even the small things like the water pitchers and spoons make me feel like I'm teleported straight back to Japan. Coming from someone who grew up in Japan during their childhood you should definitely NOT skip out on this restaurant! The food came out in less that 15 minutes probably fast. The ramen noodles were excellent--fresh, with a wonderfully firm and springy texture. The chicken paitan broth was also impressive, rich and full-bodied with a lingering depth of flavor. The takoyaki, however, was undercooked on the inside. The ginger flavor was a bit overpowering, and the batter felt too starchy. The fried enoki mushrooms tasted good, but didn't particularly stand out. That said, the overall experience was affected by the extremely long wait time and disorganized service. We waited three hours to be seated, and then were rushed to order within 30 seconds of sitting down--we didn't even have time to open the menu. We also added an order of sushi, which took far longer than expected to be prepared. The restaurant gave the impression that it wasn't fully ready for service. Still, I want to emphasize: if the wait time were under 30 minutes, the ramen alone would make it worth the visit. Lastly, for a ramen shop known for its rich broth, I really hope rice won't be out of stock next time. We arrived at 3:55 on a Wednesday and were sat by 4:10 without much waiting outside. We were sat at the very end of the bar, right next to a bus tray full of dirty dishes, which was placed on the bar and continued to grow as waiters placed more dirty dishes next to me. No one acknowledged us and no waiter approached us until 4:35, roughly 25 minutes after we had sat down at our seats. This despite them not being busy and there being no line outside. We tried ordering a few drinks, but they were out of many of the options despite no indication of that on the menu. We ordered three small plates, the edamame, spicy chicken karaage, and the enoki chips, and two bowls of ramen, the Signature and the Wagyu with added chili oil. The edamame arrived first, cold and unseasoned with garlic chips clumsily thrown on top. Then, strangely, the Signature ramen arrived--before the other small plates and not alongside the other ramen. My partner's Signature ramen sat on the table 15 minutes before my Wagyu ramen arrived, only after we were able to track down a server and asked her to check on it for us. When it arrived, the waiter haphazardly placed it on the bar, spilling hot broth onto my thigh. The Wagyu ramen was missing the extra chili oil, but we never saw another waiter to ask for it and my partner's Signature ramen was already cold after waiting for my own to arrive. The ramen was fine, but not noteworthy compared to other ramen offerings across the island like Kamitoku, Golden Pork, Ohana, and even JINYA or Gomatei. The chicken karaage was unmemorable, and we've had better across the island. The enoki chips were the highlight, but they don't warrant enduring the subpar experience throughout the rest of the meal. Mensho has now been open for weeks. They had numerous waiters and a plethora of people preparing the food. These problems are not related to opening night jitters or understaffing. They unfortunately point to much more significant problems with restaurants operations. I don't suspect this restaurant will last long without some significant improvements to their quality controls. Got in line around 410 friendly staff came out and informed everyone in line that they were only doing 100 customers today, got a ticket and went strolling around Kamakana to kill some time got back by 450 to go in and start our meal. The atmosphere is great with interesting japenese decor, and the friendly staff all greeting you upon entering. Food was ordered and came back within 10-15 minutes so pretty fast considering how many people lined up to start the evening. The food was amazing the mochi noodles are thicker than your average ramen noodles but so fluffy and light, the broth in the GKO was light but packed full of flavor but will say that the garlic chunks were adding some heft to the taste of the dish. It wasn't as spicy I would've wanted it but it has a little kick. The chicken karaage was a surprisingly tasty dish it had a sweet and sour like sauce that really packed a punch with some fresh veggies to complement it. We waited in the sun for 1 hour and as we approached the door they came and told us they're at capacity. I definitely think this was not done correctly. They should've had people outside counting, and updating people. No one came out to the line and talked to us at all. Very poor management of their soft opening. Arrived for the soft opening on 4/30 and lined by 455pm but didn't get in until 630pm, which is what I expected considering the interest surrounding this restaurant and good ramen places are so hard to find on this side. I wish they had one of the tablets stands so you can place your name and number and still wander around the mall until a table is ready (and the sun was hotttt), but I guess they're still getting settled. After you get through the doors, you're placed in the waiting area prior to being seated and someone will come by to start taking orders as they finalize your table location. Venue is stylish with warm and upscale vibes. The chairs at the bar were comfortable to me and the lighting was dimmed and cozy. At the bar they have these siphon sets that look like they're used to extract dashi from kombu, but none of them were in use so it might just be for decoration. There's also a section by the window to see fresh noodles being made, but it was turned off during my visit. Utensils are nice- chopsticks are not the wooden recycle ones. The side dish plates are pretty and colorful, with some surprising weight. The dishware and decorations all provide a more expensive feel. I was seated at the corner of the bar so I was able to see a lot of the action in the kitchen. A lot of enthusiastic response from the entire crew to greet people being seated and when guests are leaving. Workers look focused and nothing gave off a sense of panic or rushing, just efficient work of getting them ramen bowls filled. It was a quiet kitchen with the exception of greetings and receiving / sending out orders. Soft Opening had a limited menu, so they didn't have the vegan broth, the rice bowls, or the grilled appetizers or draft beer available. I was bummed I wasn't able to get their butter shoyu scallops! Next time.... Drink: Had the Moshi's sparking oolong lychee tea which wasn't too bubbly so it was easy to drink, and not too sweet. Appetizer: Enoki chips First bites were light and crispy! flavorful but not oily, but since I was flying solo I did start feeling the oil after haha. It paired wonderfully with shichimi and lemon but had to ask for more slices. I noticed the presentation is nice :) Entree: Signature Ramen NOODS. The fresh mochi noodles had such a nice chew! bouncy and flavorful. The BROTH is so THICCCC and hella rich. even after finishing my meal I can still taste the broth in my mouth lol it just coats your tongue with flavor. The duck slice was so soft, I wanted more! There's also bits of pork belly and the crispy burdock root provided a nice crunchy texture and visual interest/height for presentation. It's a bit difficult for me to describe the taste. To me, it didn't taste particularly duck-y or pork-y or dashi-y. It was just an intense, creamy and savory chicken paitan flavor on crack. I wish they had more noodles but after letting myself sit, them noodles really expanded and I felt so full after haha! I'll be thinking about that broth for a while. Worth 27 dollars? Considering the amount of work put into it, I can see the cost. I'm definitely going to try the more adventurous ramen offerings next time though! Dessert: Matcha pudding Matcha flavor comes through! a nice hit of matcha with a cute scoop of azuki beans and cream. Super bouncy and spent 3 minutes amusing myseld by just jiggling the pudding, but it was the weakest out of all the interesting things I ate tonight. Service: Everyone is attentive and easy to talk to. They were busy but I appreciated them going outside to offer water and allowing us to see the menu while waiting. Because I was seated the bar closest to where they would all wait for the food, I noted a lot of communication between all the servers and them helping each other out, with only minimal problems that I could hear. My server's name was Chanel and she was nice and personable, providing information about their opening day (free tote bags for the first 100 peeps in the door!) and told me they make their puddings in house everyday. Great Ramen! We tried two of them Shrimp Gko and Wagyu Truffle Shoyu. BOTH were Rich and Tasty!!! Enoki Chips, Corn Wings, Sushi A5 Wagyu Uni Ikura. Many other choice items on their menu! Highly recommend. read more

We've been waiting a very long time for this place to open since our first experience at their SF location. Considering this was a soft opening and they still need to work out a few kinks, I thought everything was delicious and the restaurant decor was nice. Dined here with my partner and child. Food was delicious, just be advised that the portions for the ramen are small. They don't have any kids items which is unfortunate for a restaurant that's at a family friendly mall. Usually when we go to Gomatei for ramen, I can split it with my son in an extra bowl. When I asked for an extra bowl, the server suggested extra noodles so I agreed and I'm glad we got it. However when the food came out, I was surprised at the amount of broth in the bowl. I might as well have ordered him his own. But again, there's not really a kid friendly ramen bowl. The closest thing is the classic and removing the other things yourself. The biggest complaint we have is actually the service. It's to be expected with a brand new opening but we were shocked. Everyone at our table was nice I guess. But it wasn't good service. When we sat there was no opening spiel, no introduction of the server's name, nothing about the menu at all - which is necessary especially for a new restaurant. The first thing our server said was "Did you want anything to drink other than water?" ...we had literally just been sat for 30 seconds and had not had the chance to even open the menu. The rest of the service went on to feel rushed like that, prompted for orders when we hadn't even gotten that far and with little suggestions or comments from the server. What really got me was when we were in the middle of eating and our server asked if we wanted dessert, she said she could bring it out when we are closer to being done. It was still early but we said wanted the pudding. Later when she comes with the dessert, she sets it down and immediately brings out her handheld and asks about settling the bill. We didn't even get to pick up a spoon yet or enjoy eating our pudding. She stood there awkwardly for a few minutes while we are sorting out the payment, still unable to eat the dessert that she put in front of us. The service was enough to bring down our overall experience and will likely not be coming back for a long time. Good food doesn't save bad service, especially for the price point and portion size. We are used to dining out and spend a lot of money on restaurants - we don't mind if the service is great. I hope Mensho better trains their staff moving forward. Better luck going to Ko'olina for a great dining experience. read more

Closing time was 10pm. We came at 9:20 all the way from Kaneohe, but they said they not accepting any people. We came all the way from Kaneohe to experience this restaurant, but town is better nothing on west side that is Japanese ever pans out. read more
