As a party of 3, we decided to pop into sushi Bay for a quick late lunch. It was about 3pm in the afternoon and they were still jamming. They are mostly busy with take out orders but the wait to get a seat inside took about 45min. They have multiple booth tables and some counter space, which is where we were seated. Once we were seated, the waitress was prompt with taking our orders. Our food came out relatively quick! I was impressed with the size of this bowl for the price. I'll definitely be returning and getting the bowl again. Very tasty and definitely worth your money! The parking lot is giant so there's always parking available. Sushi Bay is right next to an ice cream shop so you can pop over there for dessert afterwards as well. Overall a good lunch experience! After paying, I asked for a side of eel sauce and was informed there was a 50-cent charge. Had I known beforehand, I would have simply added it to my order. The issue wasn't the cost--it was how the situation was handled. I explained that I had already paid and didn't have any cash or change on me. I then spoke with two different employees, and both seemed unwilling to help over what amounted to a 50-cent sauce. Eventually, I spoke with the manager, who repeatedly told me, "Next time, next time, make sure," and implied I wouldn't get the sauce otherwise. What disappointed me was the lack of flexibility and customer service. After spending nearly $60 on takeout and leaving a tip, I felt that the staff and management were more focused on collecting 50 cents than taking care of a customer. Now this is a sushi spot! the nigiris were so delicious and big portions was worth the wait. All the nigiris and sushi were delicious and made fresh. What I especially appreciated was that the server noticed that my first serving of shrimp tempura was a bit sad looking and without me having said anything, she brought me a replacement dish. When I say I love Sushi Bay, I truly mean it. I've been coming here since they first opened years ago--back when I was still in high school--and it has stayed one of my all-time favorite sushi spots on the west side. To put it into perspective, there was a flash flood warning during a storm this week and I still drove 40 minutes just to pick up takeout from them. That's how worth it this place is to me. The portions here are insanely generous, especially for the price point. You get so much food, and the quality never feels compromised. The fish is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, which is why I keep coming back year after year. Their service is also incredibly efficient. You can tell this team really knows how to run a tight operation. They stayed open and adapted throughout COVID, and that ability to pivot and keep things running smoothly still shows in how quickly and reliably they handle orders today. I'm a big fan of Genki Sushi and haven't been to Sushi Bay since high school (over 10 years) so I wasn't sure what to expect but after my recent visit I totally get the hype now! I ordered the dynamite roll, unagi nigiri and the fried calamari and everything was so yummy! I really liked how the dynamite roll had avocado in it and I was so impressed with how huge the unagi pieces were for the unagi nigiri. I came here for the hamachi nigiri. I was told there was none. I asked the waitress to please double check and without hesitation she said "we're all out." It's fine if things are out of stock so I ordered other items. However, when people next to us who were seated well after us and ordered well after us got a plate of hamachi nigiri I had to ask our waitress what's up? She said she was mistaken and that they were out of the hamachi Kama (the cooked collar of the fish) and she asked if I wanted hamachi to-go but at that point we'd already ordered and received most of our other food. The waitress also said she'd check if there was miso soup. She never come back with a response. I had to ask the sushi chef about our unagi nigiri. He told us he accidentally gave it alway to the people next to us. When we got our last item the spicy tuna roll, it was mostly rice and there was more cucumber than there was fish (see pic). We also had to flag someone down for water. Service 101. This definitely wasn't worth the hour drive to get here from the windward side in traffic, and the 30 minute wait it took to get seated. This deserved 0% tip, but being in the service industry for many years I never tip less than 20%. I hope they realize I'm happy to tip 30%, 50%, or 100% for good service/ food quality/ atmosphere. We are vacationing nearby and was craving sushi. We had just got done with a hike and needed fuel so decided to come here. At first we had a small wait which was a good sign since the space is small. There's very few true tables and has a bar seating with a conveyor belt. The size of the sushi and size of the fish was immaculate. We arrived at 10:45 AM for the 11 AM opening, put our name on the waitlist, and received a text when our table was ready. Despite the morning rush, we were seated by 11:35, and the service remained impressively swift. Our order included a selection of nigiri and the spicy ahi bowl. The rice had a hint of seasoning, and the spicy ahi delivered a mild kick--but I found myself adding extra wasabi and shoyu to reach the flavor punch I remember from years past. After the movie, hubby decided to drive down for some sushi at Kapolei. We haven't been here like forever because it's far for us. So glad we decided to come down. We ate here last night after being recommended by a friend and coworker of my wife's. This is a pretty normal sushi joint with a carousel that doesn't even move anymore. It does seem to be on the older side from the interior. We came in last minute for dine in as we thought dine in was until closing which we were wrong about. They still graciously accomodated us and the chefs had no complaints. We literally had 5 minutes left to order and took our order nearly immediately after we seated. We like their garlic sushi, soft shell crab, and ribeye. The rest was pretty normal for a sushi place like this. Spicy ahi platter! My husband and I finally had a quick lunch here for the first time since that one pandemic. Those spicy ahi platters at countless parties lured us here. Even though the conveyor belt no longer functions, our sushi lunch was still inexpensive, filling, and tasty. Sushi Bay is really one of those sushi all-stars when legit sushi is far and few between on the Westside as compared to town. It's definitely a step or two above Genki Sushi.
