When staying at the hotels nearby you will often hear about the monkeypod. The menu here looked better to me and I am glad we tried it. We actually were here twice within a week. Ask what the special is for the day since it's not always posted. Each time we were there the place was only about half full which is a shame since service was excellent and staff was so pleasant and attentive. One of my childhood friends came home to da 808, so we decided to do a small get together at 808 Craft House, as the the bar/restaurant was close to the Aulani Hotel (where my friend was staying). The restaurant has an open air, causal atmosphere, with several TV's for sports events. I didn't look at the menu as I was too busy chatting away & catching up, but my friend did the ordering & got several plates of Frrrrrrried Chicken wings, pizzas, & onion rings. Of course at "808 Craft House" they are known for their craft beers, so many glasses of beers were ordered that afternoon. Unfortunately for me, I no longer can partake in alcohol, but those beers sure looked refreshing. I was totally surprised about the parking situation for this strip mall. Why do I say this? Unfortunately at this strip mall, there is NO FREE parking at all (not the restaurant's fault). You have to use your smart phone & scan the QR code to pay for parking if you choose to visit any business on this strip mall property. I ended up paying $16.20 for 3 hours parking. I really wanted to like this place because I am a fan of visiting Ko'olina. I have loved this part of the island since I was a little girl. We visited this spot a little after the start of dinner time, but it felt like the restaurant was ready to close. Our waitress took a while to bring water to the table. We ordered the Mochiko chicken Caesar 's Salad , Steak Frites, wings and two drinks. The beverage I ordered was the 808 Craft Margarita. I am not a fan. I wish I went with a craft beer. However, mochiko chicken salad was delicious and probably my favorite dish. The steak was cooked medium well and exceeded my expectations. Loved the ambiance. There were empty tables and we were asked if we had reservations. We didn't so we were asked to sit at the bar. At first, I was perplexed. This is a sports bar. But, Dave was our bartender and he was amazing. This guy is so cool and funny. I was happy that we sat at the bar afterwards. He said the burgers and wings were good. I ordered the appetizer wings as my meal and ordered half each of the sauces and they were scrumptious! I paired it with a Hawaiian blonde beer and it was perfect. Hubby had the prime rib French dip. In Hawaii for a couple of weeks, the 808 Craft House is within walking distance to our resort. We made reservations for 4 and were seated immediately upon our arrival. Waitress was very attentive and friendly. It was Monday and football was on all the screens and the Eagles had a large number of fans present which added to our entertainment. As with most spots in Ko Olina, my main gripe is the parking--none of the restaurants validate, so you're paying by the half-hour just to eat. That makes it hard to linger and really enjoy. That said, we finally checked out 808 Craft House after passing it many times, thanks to a gift card from a friend. Monday evening was quiet, with the same football game playing on every TV. Service was polite and attentive without being overbearing. We started with a couple of beers and the hummus. It was fine, though I would've preferred more pita bread and fewer veggies on the side--pita would have elevated it. The hummus was quite thin. For my main dish, I had the hulihuli chicken. The glaze was tasty, but the star of the plate was the mango slaw--super flavorful and refreshing. On the flip side, the two scoops of plain white rice didn't add much to the meal. A garnish or light seasoning would have gone a long way. We would've loved to stick around for a few more beers and maybe even dessert but with parking running, it just didn't feel worth it. Great place for happy hour or a beer and some reasonably priced food near the hotels in Ko Olina. Lots of tables in an open-air, covered setting. If it's hot out, the breeze comes through. Service was excellent, from the hostess, to the server (Charity) and maybe a manager who stopped by to check on us. Select draft beers are $7, wines are 20% off, and well drinks are discounted (I can't remember the price). Theres also a discount on select appetizers and pizzas with 2 toppings. This is the happy hour special. They don't have a ton of beers on tap, but they have a lot in cans. I got the porter and my husband got the IPA (not on HH). Hubs loves a good smash burger and there was one on the HH so he tried it. I got the Bavarian pretzel with jalapeño beer cheese and mustard sauce, of which I'm a bit of a connoisseur. The pretzel and cheese were wicked good! The pretzel came out piping hot and was slightly crispy and buttery on the outside, with the perfect amount of salt and soft and chewy on the inside, just like I like it. The cheese was very tasty. The only thing is they never give you enough cheese, so I asked for another. Here's what the hubs said about the smash burger. The burger was overcooked (too crispy and dry) and it should have had 2 Pattie's for the bun-to-meat ratio. He said the bun was good but not for a smash burger. It was too big, not squishy enough. 808 Craft House is one of the newer location of the same people behind Waikiki Brewing Company and Cheeseburger in Paradise. With that in mind, it's a similar vibe and selection of beer and drinks, but the menu is a bit different. It's located in Ko Olina in the marketplace, on the left side when driving in near the train tracks. It used to be a pizza place we enjoyed, the windows/walls have been removed making a fresh air style place with outdoor yet shaded seating against sun and rain. There are other options nearby like Monkeypod, but this one feels a lot more casual for families or people just looking to grab a beer and watch a game. They have a bunch of seating, from bar and high tops, to sit down. They can accommodate groups of larger sizes too. The host staff was welcoming and friendly, as was the wait staff. Management is always great (cheers Nick & Joe). They have a full bar with wine, liquor, etc for cocktails. They primarily have Waikiki Brewing beers on draft but also offer a selection of cans/bottles from other breweries, local and national staples. The food here is excellent. They have pizzas and pupu, easy fun food, but also offer a number of plated meals. We had the benefit of going during a special event that really showcased the quality of what they can do. My sister, brother in law and I ventured out across the street from the resort. It's about a 5-10 minute walk from Aulani, Four Seasons and Marriott near the golf course/train. We checked out Monkeypod before 808 Craft House, but the menu was similar to their sister restaurant Moku, which we went for my sister and nephew's birthday earlier. Plus, their kitchen was closing. So, we walked across to this craft house. Their kitchen didn't close till 10 pm. I like the open air concept. Yes, it has a covered roof, but three sides are open. I also like that they're a farm to table, grain to glass bar. I don't think we have that on the main land. Lol. I could be wrong! There are plenty of TVs to catch the games, though most were featuring University of Hawaii basketball and football games, naturally. Restrooms are a few shops down and around the corner. Bathroom code is listed on the chalkboard at the hostess area. We didn't want to sit at a table, so we sat at the bar. We ordered a few drinks and appetizers. I loved the Ono onion rings. It had good breading that was crispy but was kind of more breading than onion. It came with ketchup. My sister and brother in law had the Korean chicken wings that came with homemade ranch, so I dipped my onion rings in that instead and asked for my own. Tasted better. They liked their wings which was half spicy gochujang and sweet & tangy. It came with 8, and they split the flavors, but you can get a single flavor. Food didn't take that long to come out. We had our drinks - virgin piña colada, Blue Hawaii and mai tai. For birthday shots, my brother in law ordered the B52 that my sister likes. Olivia, our bartender, didn't know how to make it, so they told her what was in it. A guy sitting at the bar that we were chatting with who was decked in Philly Eagles gear looked it up, and she took a screenshot. She was able to make it, so we had that, as well. By the time we were asking for the check, I overheard the bartender tell a different guy if he was sure. Turns out, he paid for all of us who were sitting at the bar. There are 5 big screen TVs. They were all on mute until another server reported to work. Then volume was turned up on all. Talk about white noise. After that no need to carry a conversation. But as we left there was a steady stream of customers. I do have to agree with some of the earlier Yelp reviews. They could do with another server. While we were there there were only two staffers.
