I first heard about 5 Guys when somebody at my work asked me if I heard what "Johnny" did this weekend.... Well I strolled upon it while shopping and decided I needed to do 5 Guys also. The first thing I noticed was that they must really be into peanut oil. Then I ordered a plain burger with fries and a drink. I read some comments saying $8 is too much. I don't know where they eat, but for a burrito (without avocado) and a drink at Chipotle or a Jimmy John's meal and it is the same price. You also pay $8 for a burger at a family restaurant and sometimes I prefer those burger or a homemade bbq's burger than any fastfood/bar burger. It was pretty good. Fries were so-so. Nothing to wow me though. The same goes for In 'n Out. I would rather have eaten at Culver's than most burger places or Busy Burger on Taylor. Plus at Culver's you can get the best soft serve around for dessert. :) But for real, the best burgers are filet mignon burgers, specifically at Luxbar. Being partially from California, my heart belongs to In-N-Out when it comes to burgers. I was open to trying Five Guys based on a friend's review and chose to tell you about it. I would give the place a 3.5 out of 5 stars if I could. The menu is short and sweet, offering only the basic of needs at a place like this: burgers made with any topping you want from the list available, fries and drinks. I did like the free peanuts to eat while you wait. But unless you know about it, you wouldn't see the boxes of peanuts with paper cartons and a scoop b/c they get lost in the red and white decorations all over the place. The burgers are good but I still think In-N-Out has the best by far. Fresh ingredients were great but the burger did seem like it was pulled right from a day old plastic bag off the grocery shelf. At least at In-N-Out they toast your bun. The fries were delicious and possibly have a slight advantage over the West Coast chain. I didn't realize that the smaller, regular size was enough to split between three people! Yikes! Overall, I still stand with my opinion that In-N-Out is the best but Five Guys comes in at a close second. read more

I have loved Five Guys since there opening on Clark street. The service is fast and the burgers are consistent. Make sure you get the cheeseburger all the way! Cajun fries are a most here! Delicious cheeseburgers and some of the best fries I've ever had. It's a no frills burger place that's a little more expensive than the competition however the price disparity is justified since I have yet to ever be disappointed. Seems like everyone that isn't impressed with this place ordered a hot dog or a mini burger. Long story short, this place makes a fresh burger, to order and the fries are really good. The bacon on their burgers is also pretty damn thick and crispy. Also very reasonably priced considering this place gets their potatoes direct from smaller, independent Idaho farmers and the meat is not frozen but fresh. After eating here about 4 times before writing this review I came to the conclusion that these burgers are like thicker, fresher, tastier Wendy's burgers with better ingredients. I like Wendy's for fast food so, that explains why I like these burgers. If Wendy's style isn't your kinda burger, than you wont like these either. Solid four stars, this ain't no Kumas but that's not this place's niche. Good thick, fresh made burgers with a great selection of sauces and toppings, solid french fries... It's a hamburger! If you stray too far from a standard hamburger, you get that California pizza kitchen effect, some things are just meant to be left alone. Beef, cheese, patty, lettuce, etc. I don't want aoli and lump crab meat in my burger to make it all fancy. I love when people get all angry and defensive about In-N-Out, as if it's impossible for different people to have different burger preferences, or for people to appreciate both. In any case, when I travel to California, stopping at In-N-Out is a must. However, Five Guys is still my favorite burger. I go with a pretty basic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, raw onion, ketchup and mayo, and it never gets old. For $10.51, I got a "small bacon cheeseburger,' a bottle of water, and a small fries. The fries were awful - soggy & no salt. They advertise as having the best fries ever. Maybe what they should advertise is that the portion is huge. One small order of fries is probably enough for 3 people. I'd rather have the fries at Bar Louie in a heartbeat, but even McDonalds fries are better, in my opinion. So it's plastered all over the windows, the walls, and even the fountain drink cups, how great their burgers are, so I don't need to rant and rave cause it's true. They are delicious. I'm here to tell you this: 1.) Their price is great for the portions. 2.) You get a truckload of fries, so always order the regular. I promise it'll be more than enough---even if you're sharing. 3.) Yummy Fries, friendly counter people- I had never been in before. They were very chatty, sweet and informative- of course it was early and there wasn't a line present to be annoyed by my list of toppings (all) or questions about the difference between Cajun fries and their house fries. The french fries deserve much praise, not the skinny wimpy fast food standard- these fries are hearty, wholesome, craveably crisp on the surface with chunky sea salt and a bit of earthy potato skin enhancing the natural, soft potato texture and flavor inside. You will be given an overflowing cup and with those first few bites you may wish for more fries (you piglet you!) but exercise a wee bit of restraint. Because unlike the shameful wimpy fast food standard fries, these are pretty hefty portioned and filling... Oh, those fries... they are overflowing, soaking the bulging brown paper bag to transparency with grease. You don't want to ruin your wardrobe taking these to-go! You want sit down, to shell peanuts, feed them to your handsome boyfriend and play with the soda fountain machine options in an attempt to find the tastiest beverage... which for me is the Cherry Vanilla Coke Zero. Yeah, diet soda with this meal? Don't think I don't appreciate the obvious conflicting caloric contrast. It was delicious. The burger is nothing to sneer at, I got a regular (massive) and had to share as my capacity was limited. With all the toppings, it is hard to hold, let alone eat- but messiness is a pleasure and I was perfectly willing to make a mess trying to get my junk food fix! My Boyfriend had caved and couldn't wait. He said the two pieces of pizza he ate prior (at another establishment) would hold him over. Hah. I loved Five Guys. I was super excited that there was one near a shoot I was doing, and I made it a point to swing in there and grab a burger. I looked a little bizarre for a photo shoot I did, but thought that shouldn't matter. After this experience I will never return to this Five Guys. I told them I was ready, they sat there for a couple minutes (no one was in line before me), and then say "what do you want." I must have gotten more eye rolls from this guy than a 15 year old chick who's on Maury. They then start to prepare my food, laughing and staring at me as they did. Finally my food is ready, and the forgot the fries. I ask them nicely to check on the fries and the guy tells me I never ordered any. I told him "yes, I am positive I ordered some." He rolls his eyes and meanly says "so you want some or what?" I say, "yes, I do. That is what I ordered. Thanks." He says something to his coworker, walks in the back room, then comes out to cook my fries. I am SUPER nervous at this point. I have seen way too many comedies to know how this is going. He tossed me my food and I left. I ended up tossing most of it cause all I could think about was him touching something nasty and then touching my fries. These people don't care about their jobs, so they don't care about your food. If you don't want to risk getting a pube or butt smudge on your food, stay away form this place. This place is so disappointing! I hate to write a review like this because the service people are very nice, but the food is so terrible and the price is so high! Look: a hamburg is about $7, a cheese burger is more expensive. My mouth dropped when I walked into the door and saw the menu prices. I was expecting a price more like than of M Burger: around $3 or $4. Then, the real blow came. My hamburg tasted awful. The patties were so dry it hurt my throat to swallow it. Besides, it had no taste. I had to get two little patches of salt to sprinkle over them. The fries were dry too. You only want to eat them when you soak them in ketchup. Good fries don't need ketchup. We ended up throwing all the fries. I walked out of the door, wondering why this place is in business. McDonalds have better fries. It's a little more expensive than McDonald's, but the cajun fries are delicious (the smaller size is MORE than sufficient for 2-3 people), the burgers are always good (you ask for toppings at the counter) and the hot dogs are good too. i've been to 5 guys in Georgetown several times when visiting my sister, who lives in D.C. i've always thought of it as a great hangover solution, cuz nothing makes u feel better after a night of partying then as much grease as u can cram down your throat. so i was excited to hear about this 5 guys location opening up because i already knew it was a good ole greasy mess (just like i like it!). i have to say, reading the previous Yelp reviews was extremely helpful when ordering - knowing that a little cheeseburger and splitting a regular fries is the way to go. i haven't been to 5 guys in a year probably, so i'd forgotten. thanks Yelpers!! btw, those regular fries are ridiculously NOT regular!! they fill up half a normal brown paper bag with those fries. i read mixed reviews about the cajun fries, but i tell u what...those were good and spicy and i enjoyed them very much! me and my friend split and together we didn't even eat half the fries we were given. the little cheeseburger was just the perfect size...if i had had any more to eat i would have been too full! the restaurant is very large, we only had to wait less than 10 mins for our food, and it was very clean and the staff was friendly enough. i probably won't make an effort to come back to 5 guys because there are TONS of great burger spots in the city, but if i'm ever in that area and want a burger, i would surely stop back there. read more

After my Shake Shack experience I have had Burgers on my Brain! I was in a cab on my way to a friend's house and stopped at a light just 1 block away. My tummy growled and grumbled and I looked up to see Five Guys. My instincts quickly took over. I paid the driver and followed my tummy into the new burger shop. Pretty straight forward ordering process with one caveat, the regular size burgers are actually doubles so plan accordingly. I ordered a cheeseburger with no extra charge toppings of grilled onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and ketchup with a side of french fries. The burger was delicious, very juicy and nicely layered with cheese and toppings. The fries were stellar! Maybe it was the malt vinegar I copiously administered to them, but I barely was interested in looking up at the air show going on directly above and around me. The fries had my full attention. I would go back again and order the same thing in a hot fast minute! YUM! read more

There is nothing special about the burgers or the fries. I mean nothing. The meat is just processed hamburger like you get at the supermarket when it already comes in the round patties. Fries were just ok. So many places have better fries that I would never go here just for the fries. They also seem like they buy them in a big frozen bag and just dump them into the oil. Just what I need another great burger place in the neighborhood! I had no idea what to expect upon walking into this place. I had heard polarizing mixed reviews and I was really confused by all of the peanuts everywhere. You get to select exactly what toppings to throw on your burger and they have a plethora of toppings. I also ordered fries which was a good/bad idea. They were amazing, but definitely not the healthiest fries. The burger was juice, flavorful, and most importantly addictive. I'm bummed that I'm on "The Luke Beach Diet" right now because I need to stay away for a while. When I decide to cheat this will be one of the first places I go. read more
