I love the turkey burger. They are hard to find. They have multigrain buns and grilled onions. I got it twice this week.

The seller here: late night kitchen! In terms of quality and taste, I was pleasantly surprised by both the Buffalo Chicken Fries and the Breaded White Fish Sandwich. Usually when I repeat restaurants, I like to order something new but these were good enough that I'd want them again! The Oreo milkshake was good and thick. The fries that weren't topped with buffalo sauce and cheese were meh. The woman who took our order spoke really fast and seemed impatient to my questions, but maybe that fits the vibe of late night eats. the hat gon always get you right for some late night food, and they got MILD SAUCE. Automatic win. They always get you in and out usually no longer wait than actual cook time. Could be said this place is old hat. It certainly looks like an old school Chicago greasy grill, whether that's a good or bad thing who knows. The Hat has burgers, but that's just one of many things. Also has one that's plant based. Falafel is another protein choice available as a burger or a side. A few times and I've had the vegan friendly choices. It's surprising this place has a few. The last time it was the Char Vegan Burger, which has got to be the healthiest item. It's about $8 and it's pretty big. This comes on a whole wheat bun, so you get grains and proteins. Be sure they don't put the cheese and mayonnaise on it. They don't seem to know any better and automatically put it on if you don't say to leave it off. Good place to go to even when it's late. I live in California and visit my son and my daughter-in-law in Chicago once a year. We decided to go to The Hat tonight and we all had the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. Oh my god! It was soooo good. The chicken is pounded flat and marinated. The bun is so soft and delicious. It has mayonnaise, shredded lettuce and diced onion on it. The fries are awesome. We dipped them in ketchup or cheese sauce. I can't say enough so I won't say anything more except TRY IT. read more

I've ordered from here a few times. I do love the garlic fries. Prices aren't crazy, although their online menu pricing has not been updated. Some things are up to $1 off. So treat them as -ish prices. The burgers are good. Greasy. messy. Make sure you have napkins and I wouldn't recommend for on the go. They are a very good size too. I haven't ordered anything other then burgers as those always seem to be made very well. Spotted this place right after clubbing on a Saturday night. Definitely made the right choice because this place definitely hits the spot in terms of after-clubbing food. The food takes a little bit but that's because the chefs/cooks are cooking everything fresh. Appreciate their service a lot! Plus their menu is pretty vast, so whatever you're craving in the moment, they got it (especially the Gyros). I'm originally from California and I had to see if this was the same as The Hat that we have. It isn't. They serve a large variety of griddle food that reminds me of a cafeteria (with better quality!) My husband got the italian beef with spicy peppers; he loooved it. We are not italian beef experts by any means and basically love all italian beef sandwiches. I got the grilled chicken club which came drenched in honey mustard. Messy but delicious. We also had chili cheese fries. Come here if you need your fast food fix! read more

Keep your expectations in line with what this is, a late night greasy spoon, with that said I feel this is solid place and my go-to late night/stoned/coming home from a show spot. I order here at least 1x a m0nth in winter and sprin/summer 2-3x a month (bc I'm more likely to be out late when the weather isn't trying to freeze me to death) my favorites are the Itailian beef and spicy chick picy chicken (a suffienct mild/moderate heat IMO, for heat scale: I'm a spicy lover...like sweating under eyes spicy, but this is a good level of spice, similar to other majr chains level of 'spicy'). I also enjoy the hamburger as well, it's not a gourmet burger but its cooked to order to the doneness you like. This is my new late-night spot. Every neighborhood I live in has to have one. Open until 4AM! I've lived in Wicker for two weeks and have already found my stoned ass here four times. And it's exactly what you expect it to be. Solid Vienna hot dogs, pretty mediocre everything else. The burger was honestly worse than McDonalds, and I couldn't suggest it to anyone, no matter how turnt you may be. Keep it Chi. The Italian Beef was not amazing but did the trick, and the fries are fine. Step inside after midnight and you're sure to find a room full of drink and stoned folks, someone is probably yelling at the employees who are working their butts off. The food comes out quick and reliably. In the times I've gone the staff has been very task-organized and aren't mean, which, for this kind of restaurant, means the service is great. Not in any way a destination hot dog (go to Fatso's or Red Hot). But if you're in the neighborhood and have just finished railing your fifth shot, go check 'em out. read more

Stopped in here for a quick bite while waiting for the bus. Food seems kind of overpriced comparatively to some of the other hot dog beef places in Chicago. I paid $16 for an Italian beef dipped combo which came with fries and a small cup. To me, that seems a little over the ordinary, considering the food was quite mediocre. I thought the chicken sandwich would be good but it was terrible. My chicken was over cooked and my fries tasted ok. But honestly even Wendy's does a better job than this. My chicken was hard on the edges and on the inside. I was charged $15 for everything when this food was worse than Wendys. When I complained about the chicken the manager said my chicken is fresh. I myself know the difference cause I also cook. And could have cooked a better sandwich at home. They did not want to give my refund and were just ignoring me when I complained. The people working there are kind but also seemed like they were having a fun time working. Was in Chicago for my birthday and was very hungry and a lot of places were either closing or closed, not The Hat! I made a pickup order and ended up getting a burger and their chilli cheese Fries and I must say the food was pretty decent and fulfilling. The place was very convenient and easy to access.
