You really can't go wrong with a classic Polish topped with grilled onions and mustard. Simple, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving! This place has a fun, nostalgic vibe that reminds me of neighborhood hot dog stands from the '80s. The vintage photos and décor give it plenty of character, making it feel like an old-school Chicago spot. The fountain drink selection is impressive, with plenty of choices to satisfy just about anyone. The prices are fair, the portions are satisfying, and the restaurant is clean and inviting. My only drawback is the ordering system. While ordering from a touchscreen is quick and efficient, I think it takes away some of the personal interaction between customers and staff. It's not a dealbreaker, but I do miss being greeted by someone behind the counter and placing my order the old-fashioned way. Overall, it's a great place to grab a bite. If you're looking for a tasty Chicago-style Polish in a casual setting, this spot is definitely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back.
Devil Dawgs is a great place to check out if you're downtown and want to try a Chicago dog or any of their other unique hot dogs. I got the vegan Chicago style dog and the spicy chicken sandwich and shared an order of fries with my sibs. Bag of fries is pretty big so I'd recommend grabbing some to share. Surprisingly my favorite item was the spicy chicken sandwich. It was a little big and messy but it had great flavor. The place is kinda small so grab a table as soon as one opens up and then order at the tablet in front. Food was hot and fresh. I didn't get to try a milkshake but I was curious about them as the flavors sounded good, next time.
This location of Devil Dawgs does have some indoor seating available (~20 seats) and ordering is done on the tablets at the front before seating and bussing your own tables. While the portion sizes aren't the biggest for the price, everything comes out fresh and piping hot. Cheese Curds (4.5/5): Super salty, perfectly light crunch on the outside. An absolute hazard to eat and easily the best thing I had here. Onion Rings (1/5): The batter on the onion rings were ridiculously sweet to the point it almost tasted like funnel cake batter. Not sure if it's normally that texture, but definitely a miss. Devil Dawg (4/5): Bun and toppings are pretty much standard issue down the board, but the actual hot dog is a much nicer quality than at other spots around the city with a good snap. Portillo's is definitely a vibe, but I do prefer the Chicago dog here. Nicely balanced across sodium, tangy, sharpness, and even a bit of spice.
Intrigued by the Icelandic Dawg which has similar ingredients to the traditional Danish Red hotdog with everything :-). Had to try it out, kinda pricey at $8.50 but hit the spot and has a kick to it! Only thing missing was really the pickles on top :-) Not a really busy location past dinner time. Service was not the fastest, but made to order :-)
We were in the area and since this spot was in walking distance we decided to dine here for a date night out. I love that I am able to order on their kiosk & as I receive their emails I was able to input a code for free fries. I ordered their Italian beef sandwich, first time as I typically go for their hot dogs. Our order came out quickly with an exception to the milkshake which required a little more time. I will say, the Italian beef could be a little more flavorful, but I feel like that's a Chicagoan thing to say. I ordered mine slightly wet. The fries were good, hand cut in case that's an important distinction to make. We were pleased with our order. I will call out that there is no public restroom which was a slight inconvenience but overall it was a good experience.
This is pound for pound (or oz for oz) one of the best shakes in America. I have yet to find one that is perfect from start to end like this. And they make it so fast! Great vibes.
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it was full of people and upbeat music was playing. I was immediately drawn to their digital menu board. After seeing their vegan options, I was happy to see that they offer vegan hot dogs made two ways but sad that their fries and tater tots are cooked in beef tallow, and surprised that the hot dogs were $7.00 which might be too expensive for some people. After we ordered a vegan Chicago dog with a soda for me and a vegan Chicago dog with a bucket of fries for hubby, our food was quickly prepared and delivered. Although my vegan hot dog was cooked well, I was slightly annoyed at how quickly the dog fell out of the bun and the large amount of neon green relish which minimize the other flavors of the hot dog. Likewise, I was saddened and surprised and that none of their sides (fries and tater tots) are vegan friendly since they cook these items in beef tallow. Overall, while the vegan hot dog was delicious, I feel that $7 is a bit pricey for a vegan hotdog especially when there aren't any vegan sides available.
First time at this place. As soon as you come into the establishment the smell of great food oozes. You self order. And they call your name when your order is ready. I ordered a Chicago Dog with some home fries. Perfect bite of the sausage with the peppers onions. And the fries sizzling hot with the skin. Great little spot.
Pretty pricey for some hot dogs but they're so good. I prefer devil dawgs to portillos and their selection of hot dog dishes is phenomenal. Whenever someone visits, i make sure we go here to get a Chicago dog. Tho im torn between the standard jumbo chicago dog and the green chile dog. Service is quick and great, everything is clean and organized tho the spot is pretty small so it can get crowded in a rush.
I love stopping here. It's the best place to get the cheapest dogs. I'd always recommend getting the two because you'll always want another one. The service was very fast and we were there while they were full. There is seating inside, but not a whole lot so don't plan on staying. We've been a couple of times now when we're visiting and will definitely be back again!
BLUF: Place to come once and say you did. Food (3/5): I'm not even sure what I ate. Pickles on pickles on pickles. The neon leprechaun cum on my dog & pickles was... gross. I couldn't finish mine. The fries were amazing. The other dogs we got were delicious. My stomach did NOT agree with me after, but it was worth it. Service (5/5): Quick & limited interaction. You can order with a human or just use their kiosk. The kiosk was easy, had photos, and made it easy to customize items. Ambiance (5/5): Hole-in-the-wall place. Graffiti on the walls and sticky tables. It's your typical dive-eatery. No parking.
Front desk at our hotel recommended this place and it was closer to try this than Portillo's. Small space with ordering at the counter in the back or a kiosk for self order. Only a few 4 foot person tables and some high top for 2. No bathroom. Closest one is Pete's around the corner at the end of the next block. 5/5 bucket of fries w/cheese. The fries were soft and super flavorful. Not crispy if that's your kind of thing. The nacho cheese was on the side and warm and tasty. They gave us 2 containers for one order which i appreciated. 5/5 it's not a corn dawg with cotija cheese and corn. My fave one. Very flavorful. The hot dog itself was also delicious. 4/5 Chicago dawg - got the small size which was perfect since we sampled so much. 4/5 hot chile cheddar dawg - super cheesy and added onions. My second fav. 4.5/5 Italian beef - wet with hot jardiane (sp). The peppers were spicy but really good. It's a pretty large serving. 5/5 caramel salty pretzel shake - the pretzel bits were a perfect salty mix. Pricing was very reasonable! I'd come back again for the not your corn dawg and shake!
Yum! They have a variety of hotdogs but I got their chicago dog. A little pricey for hotdogs but worth trying for the experience.

Great place for a hot dog! This location is a short walk from the Field Museum. I had the Chicago dog and tots, and it was good! You can't go wrong with a classic. Service is counter only, and you have to order at a kiosk. The interior is what you would expect for this type of establishment. Cool framed photos and memorabilia. I'll definitely return next time I'm in Chicago again. read more
We went to Devil Dawgs after doing the architecture tour because we needed something to put in our stomachs. My husband suggested it, so we went. At first, I was like, "Hey, get me a sandwich." But when we got there, it looked divey, so I said, you know what, let's see! We grabbed a high-top table, but listen: seating is limited, okay? Don't come in there thinking you finna have a whole big, huge party! It is a small space, but we were able to secure our seats, watch the cooks do their thing, and order our food. Everything came out relatively quickly. The whole place has a fun vibe. Pictures on the ceiling, bright colors. Of course, the name Devil Dawgs made me think about the Marine Corps. If you know, you know! I had the Dragonfruit Shake, and oh my goodness. My husband had the Maxwell Street Polish, which I absolutely loved seeing because I grew up eating them. I used to get mine off 95th & Dan Ryan.. so that brought back some memories. And Hubs tore that thing down! Now, my hot dog? Listen, the picture is diabolical, okay? But it was EV-ER-Y-THING! I need to sound it out phonetically because it was literally everything, okay?! It was loaded, messy, and doing exactly what it needed to do. And listen, I am perfectly fine with a messy dog as long as it is good, and it absolutely was! The food came out quick, fast, and in a hurry. You won't be sitting around waiting forever. If you need to catch a plane, train, automobile, or whatever else, you are going to get where you need to go because that food is coming out, okay? If we ever come back to the area, we are definitely hitting up Devil Dawgs again. For sure! read more
You order at a kiosk which it's the way of the world right? Got through it though. Had the Chicago dog, tots and a shake. Pretty good food! Tasted fresh. You can sit and eat there, it's cool decor, hipster style and vibes. The reason I gave it a 3 is because there's no bathroom:( that was insane to us ladies who had to go. Really a bummer:( read more

We had to get our Chicago Dogs while in Chicago, and Devil Dawgs in Printers Row presented itself. (Feb 2026) We were lucky during early afternoon on a Saturday (Feb 2026) to get in before a mid-afternoon rush. We got our orders in at the register, and only had a few minutes wait. The dogs are Official Vienna Beef, of course. They use the longer narrower dogs, not the plumper ones. The toppings are traditional: genuine sport peppers, genuine neon relish, dill pickle spears, chopped onions, fresh tomatoes, celery salt. It's a great bright tart juicy savory combination of crunchy flavors. Note: The buns had no poppy seeds. The fries were hot and tender and added rich flavors. Devil Dawgs has a great divey look. The staff are great. The food is great. This place is a treasure. read more

Fantastic! I thought I was Team Portillo's but I have officially converted to Team Devil Dawgs! Wow!!! Sooooooo good! I had the Big Chicago dog and it was bursting with flavor. The high quality Vienna beef dog had the nice snap I was looking for. All the seasonings and toppings blended together perfectly. Each bite was an explosion of fun! Also, the vibe here is really cool, and feels like a party. The decor is colorful, vibrant, and funny. Good music playing too. I love a place with personality. Lots of amusing hot dog art, and even some art on the ceiling. All of the tables were very clean. Excellent and fast service. I also appreciate that they have easy kiosks to order from. This is a cashless place. A wide variety of menu items. In addition to hot dogs, they have burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, cheese curds, vegan options and more. I gotta try a milkshake next time. I'll definitely be back! read more

Continuing alphabet series representing 2021 is D is for Devil Dawgs. In September 2021, I was on a Chicago vacation. After Chicago architecture boat tour and before seeing the White Sox, I met up with my friend who arrived a day later than I did. We went to an early dinner before White Sox at Devil Dawgs as getting a Chicago hot dog is an iconic thing to do plus eating at White Sox would be a ripoff. Devil Dawgs has a wide variety of hot dogs with various flavors. For me, I generally eat hot dogs plain. I don't like ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, etc. I do like a chili dog with or without cheese. Restaurant was a bit of a dive, but the hot dog was good. I messed up on the order as none of the hot dogs were exactly what I wanted, but I realized I messed up on the order. They didn't refund; so I just bought another hot dog that I had intended on getting. I ate the one I messed up on, but I enjoyed in spite of having to pick off onions or whatever was the case. Staff was cordial but not overly friendly either. Overall, a pretty good hot dog, but I'm content with a plain hot dog. read more

Was getting lunch before heading to the airport. I got there right at 12pm on a Thursday. Ordered/paid on the kiosk. I got my food in about 5min. It wasn't super busy when I walked in but a few mins later it started getting packed while I sat and ate. So maybe go in BEFORE 12:05pm haha. Devil Dawgs hit the spot! I got the regular sized Chicago dawg and fries with a side of cheese sauce. The hotdog was pretty good, I've never had one Chicago style before. The fries were fresh, hand cut, hot and salty! All this plus a fountain drink +tax&tip came out to $18.27. read more
Came during my last visit to Chicago and it was so good! I had a classic Chicago dog and service was great and super fast. I love all of the toppings in a Chicago dog and it was the perfect snack to either eat and enjoy the scenery of downtown or take along to go. read more

My favorite meal of my Chicago trip! Sorry I tried another pizza on my last day in town instead of returning to Devil Dawgs! Very casual place, long and narrow. Not a whole lot of seating but I enjoyed eating in; I even got into a conversation with my neighbors about pickles. Speaking of pickles, you get a nice big spear on the dog, along with all the other Chicago stuff. Fries also were excellent and so was the chocolate-banana-malt shake! I know it's not health food but you gotta try it once in awhile. (Guess I'm lucky I don't live in Chicago or I'd be hitting Devil Dawgs way too often...) read more

Can't come to Chicago and not grab a hot dog- so we stopped in for a quick bite. It's a small location with a handful of tables. Cashless transactions with self serve kiosks for ordering makes it easy if you're looking for a quick in and out meal. No public restrooms - which is kinda odd. We ordered a Chicago dawg, a Polish sausage and cheese fries and we were not disappointed. read more

My friends and I decided that our last bite in Chicago had to be a Chicago-style hot dog. We decided to go to Devil Dawgs because it was within walking distance and a spot none of us had tried. The restaurant has sufficient seating, but it is quite narrow, so I suggest getting takeout if you are not a fan of tight, potentially crowded places. We placed our orders at a kiosk near the entrance, which was easy to use and had plenty of pictures. I can't rate the service since my friend was the one who primarily interacted with the staff, but I will say they were super efficient, and our food came out pretty quickly. FOOD: Big Chicago Dawg (4.55/5) - Opted for this one over a 'regular' Chicago dog because we were interested in the jumbo spicy Vienna sausage. It came with the toppings that are traditionally on a Chicago-style dog: tomatoes, a pickle spear, peppers, mustard, white onions, and neon green relish. Surprisingly, it did not come with a poppy seed bun, which I thought was a characteristic of a Chicago-style hot dog. I did slightly enjoy this one more than the jumbo hot dog I got at Portillo's (probably due to its sausage being better), but this one was considerably pricier. Icelandic Dawg (3.75/5) - Got this because my coworker was raving about the hot dogs he had in Iceland. I have no idea what a hot dog in Iceland entails, but this one had a ton of crispy onions and shallots on top. While I'm not sure what the sauce it had was, it tasted like honey mustard and mayo mixed together. To me, this hot dog was milder in flavor and lacked depth compared to the Big Chicago Dawg... maybe I am just a really big fan of pickles and yellow mustard. Tater Tots (4/5) - Tasted like most tater tots I encountered. Who doesn't like a compact fried potato cylinder? Nicely salted and crispy, but nothing out of the ordinary. Your standard good tater tot. TLDR// Solid place to get a Chicago-style hot dog from my perspective (a tourist). The spot is a little narrow, but that's not a big deal. I would come back for yummy food and a general good time. read more

Milkshake was actually delicious. I got mint strawberry and Oreo!! Very good and much better than I was expecting. This is a giant milkshake. The veggie dog was also pretty good, not dry or off putting at all. Tasked great. The relish however scared me. Neon green relish??? I would prefer not... Seating is sparse but the wait time for food is exceptionally fast! read more
I ordered the Big Coney Cheese Dawg, Maxwell Street Polish, and tots. Adding this to my favorite Chicago hot dog stands. The quality of the sausages, both polish sausage and Vienna spicy all beef dog, was top notch - big, flavorful, and juicy. Buns weren't dry. Good amount of Tots Tots; also crispy and seasoned. I would prefer the shredded cheese on the coney dawg be melted, not just sprinkled as is. No issues with service. Limited seating inside. read more

No fuss hot-dog joint for an authentic Chicago dog experience. We ordered a chicago dog and regular hot dog, and both were great for a quick bite. The hot dog felt less processed than typical hot dog joints which was a huge plus. The inside is small and gets crowded, so Id recommend ordering at a kiosk rather than waiting in line to order with the cashier. Theres outdoor seating that is small but people seem to move quickly after finishing their meal. I would definitely come back here. read more
