We were in the area and since this spot was in walking distance we decided to dine here for a date night out. I love that I am able to order on their kiosk & as I receive their emails I was able to input a code for free fries. I ordered their Italian beef sandwich, first time as I typically go for their hot dogs. Our order came out quickly with an exception to the milkshake which required a little more time. I will say, the Italian beef could be a little more flavorful, but I feel like that's a Chicagoan thing to say. I ordered mine slightly wet. The fries were good, hand cut in case that's an important distinction to make. We were pleased with our order. I will call out that there is no public restroom which was a slight inconvenience but overall it was a good experience.
You really can't go wrong with a classic Polish topped with grilled onions and mustard. Simple, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving! This place has a fun, nostalgic vibe that reminds me of neighborhood hot dog stands from the '80s. The vintage photos and décor give it plenty of character, making it feel like an old-school Chicago spot. The fountain drink selection is impressive, with plenty of choices to satisfy just about anyone. The prices are fair, the portions are satisfying, and the restaurant is clean and inviting. My only drawback is the ordering system. While ordering from a touchscreen is quick and efficient, I think it takes away some of the personal interaction between customers and staff. It's not a dealbreaker, but I do miss being greeted by someone behind the counter and placing my order the old-fashioned way. Overall, it's a great place to grab a bite. If you're looking for a tasty Chicago-style Polish in a casual setting, this spot is definitely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back.
Devil Dawgs is a great place to check out if you're downtown and want to try a Chicago dog or any of their other unique hot dogs. I got the vegan Chicago style dog and the spicy chicken sandwich and shared an order of fries with my sibs. Bag of fries is pretty big so I'd recommend grabbing some to share. Surprisingly my favorite item was the spicy chicken sandwich. It was a little big and messy but it had great flavor. The place is kinda small so grab a table as soon as one opens up and then order at the tablet in front. Food was hot and fresh. I didn't get to try a milkshake but I was curious about them as the flavors sounded good, next time.
This is pound for pound (or oz for oz) one of the best shakes in America. I have yet to find one that is perfect from start to end like this. And they make it so fast! Great vibes.
This location of Devil Dawgs does have some indoor seating available (~20 seats) and ordering is done on the tablets at the front before seating and bussing your own tables. While the portion sizes aren't the biggest for the price, everything comes out fresh and piping hot. Cheese Curds (4.5/5): Super salty, perfectly light crunch on the outside. An absolute hazard to eat and easily the best thing I had here. Onion Rings (1/5): The batter on the onion rings were ridiculously sweet to the point it almost tasted like funnel cake batter. Not sure if it's normally that texture, but definitely a miss. Devil Dawg (4/5): Bun and toppings are pretty much standard issue down the board, but the actual hot dog is a much nicer quality than at other spots around the city with a good snap. Portillo's is definitely a vibe, but I do prefer the Chicago dog here. Nicely balanced across sodium, tangy, sharpness, and even a bit of spice.
Intrigued by the Icelandic Dawg which has similar ingredients to the traditional Danish Red hotdog with everything :-). Had to try it out, kinda pricey at $8.50 but hit the spot and has a kick to it! Only thing missing was really the pickles on top :-) Not a really busy location past dinner time. Service was not the fastest, but made to order :-)
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it was full of people and upbeat music was playing. I was immediately drawn to their digital menu board. After seeing their vegan options, I was happy to see that they offer vegan hot dogs made two ways but sad that their fries and tater tots are cooked in beef tallow, and surprised that the hot dogs were $7.00 which might be too expensive for some people. After we ordered a vegan Chicago dog with a soda for me and a vegan Chicago dog with a bucket of fries for hubby, our food was quickly prepared and delivered. Although my vegan hot dog was cooked well, I was slightly annoyed at how quickly the dog fell out of the bun and the large amount of neon green relish which minimize the other flavors of the hot dog. Likewise, I was saddened and surprised and that none of their sides (fries and tater tots) are vegan friendly since they cook these items in beef tallow. Overall, while the vegan hot dog was delicious, I feel that $7 is a bit pricey for a vegan hotdog especially when there aren't any vegan sides available.
First time at this place. As soon as you come into the establishment the smell of great food oozes. You self order. And they call your name when your order is ready. I ordered a Chicago Dog with some home fries. Perfect bite of the sausage with the peppers onions. And the fries sizzling hot with the skin. Great little spot.
Pretty pricey for some hot dogs but they're so good. I prefer devil dawgs to portillos and their selection of hot dog dishes is phenomenal. Whenever someone visits, i make sure we go here to get a Chicago dog. Tho im torn between the standard jumbo chicago dog and the green chile dog. Service is quick and great, everything is clean and organized tho the spot is pretty small so it can get crowded in a rush.
I love stopping here. It's the best place to get the cheapest dogs. I'd always recommend getting the two because you'll always want another one. The service was very fast and we were there while they were full. There is seating inside, but not a whole lot so don't plan on staying. We've been a couple of times now when we're visiting and will definitely be back again!
BLUF: Place to come once and say you did. Food (3/5): I'm not even sure what I ate. Pickles on pickles on pickles. The neon leprechaun cum on my dog & pickles was... gross. I couldn't finish mine. The fries were amazing. The other dogs we got were delicious. My stomach did NOT agree with me after, but it was worth it. Service (5/5): Quick & limited interaction. You can order with a human or just use their kiosk. The kiosk was easy, had photos, and made it easy to customize items. Ambiance (5/5): Hole-in-the-wall place. Graffiti on the walls and sticky tables. It's your typical dive-eatery. No parking.
Front desk at our hotel recommended this place and it was closer to try this than Portillo's. Small space with ordering at the counter in the back or a kiosk for self order. Only a few 4 foot person tables and some high top for 2. No bathroom. Closest one is Pete's around the corner at the end of the next block. 5/5 bucket of fries w/cheese. The fries were soft and super flavorful. Not crispy if that's your kind of thing. The nacho cheese was on the side and warm and tasty. They gave us 2 containers for one order which i appreciated. 5/5 it's not a corn dawg with cotija cheese and corn. My fave one. Very flavorful. The hot dog itself was also delicious. 4/5 Chicago dawg - got the small size which was perfect since we sampled so much. 4/5 hot chile cheddar dawg - super cheesy and added onions. My second fav. 4.5/5 Italian beef - wet with hot jardiane (sp). The peppers were spicy but really good. It's a pretty large serving. 5/5 caramel salty pretzel shake - the pretzel bits were a perfect salty mix. Pricing was very reasonable! I'd come back again for the not your corn dawg and shake!
Yum! They have a variety of hotdogs but I got their chicago dog. A little pricey for hotdogs but worth trying for the experience.

Great spot in State Street. Bike parking out front. Chicago Dog is great even without a poppyseed bun. The sliders are the real magic here wow!! Cool music inside. Quick service. Friendly. We came and we tried Chicago Style hotdogs and I'm so glad we had this experience at Devil Dawgs. Prices are cheap, 1 hotdog is $5.25, I ordered a Vegan version which was $6.75. These hotdogs hit the spot. Love the tart crunchy pickle spear and the extra green relish, it all went really well together. Everyone was friendly, there was plenty of seating options and tables were kept clean. While we were there, Devil Dawgs was never quiet. It's a great stop for a quick bite to eat. read more

You can't beat Devil Dawgs, I normally go to the one in River North, so I didn't know what to expect when I went to this one and honestly they're both great! I got the Vegan Cheddar Cheese Dog, Vegan Icelandic Dawg, and Cajun Fries. Over here they have a kiosk compared to the other locations where you would order over the counter. They have seating areas here which is nice. The Icelandic dog is one of their best hotdogs. The cheddar cheese one is good. It might be a little too cheesy, but I know a lot of people will love that though! The Cajun fries were good but I'd probably stick with the normal fries next time, the Cajun Fries were very salty. Came in here to eat after flying in. Very convenient location right by our hotel. When you come in you order off a kiosk, which makes it very easy to go through the menu. Very laid back casual spot. Service was very good and quick. We ordered a Chicago dog, NY dog, bacon dog, and kids meal.. Oh and a bucket of fries!! These fries were soooooo good!! Everything was flavorful. Tons of toppings. This was our first meal after landing in Chicago. Got the Chicago and the Elvis slider. loved the neon relish and meaty dawg. The Elvis slider was also very good. The grease and richness from the peanut butter helped balance the healthy veggies from the dawg. Boo Boo was clutching her pearls because we noticed it was a cashless establishment. First thing to do in Chicago... pizza? No. A Chicago dog! This was perfect with the cheese curds which I paired with a really good ranch dressing. Super small place so plan on eating on the go or waiting for a table to clear out. The electronic kiosk ordering is annoying so if the counter is open, it's faster to order there. read more

Chicago is known for their Chicago Dogs, so I had to give this place a try. Note: credit card/cashless only and no public restroom Food Quality: 5/5 My Big Chicago Dawg was snappy like I was hoping for. The green relish is something to see. Also, the onion rings were super fresh and tasted like they hand battered them which is a huge plus in my book. The Devil Sauce, which was a spicy mayo, was not too spicy. I'd definitely eat everything again. Atmosphere: 3/5 The seating is limited in this narrow resturant. The plexiglass near the ordering area gave me COVID flashbacks. I totally walked right past the kiosk near the front of the resturant, otherwise I would have ordered there. Service: 4/5 The guy that took my order was fine and my food was prepared quickly. Nothing over the top but I can't complain. Value: 4/5 $16.20 for a hot dog and onion rings isn't cheap but it felt relatively fair for the quality of the dog. Overall: 4/5 If you need a quick lunch, this is a good option. I'd definitely get it again if in the area. read more

Stopped in for a classic Chicago dog. Ordering was super easy, you just use the tablet at the front, and they call your name when it's ready. I had my food in less than five minutes. The spot is pretty small with limited seating, so definitely more of a grab-and-go or quick bite kind of place. The hotdog was solid. Not my favorite ever, but still hit the spot. It's a bit messy and the toppings make the bun fall apart pretty quick. Overall, quick service, good food, and worth checking out if you're in the mood for a Chicago-style dog without the wait. read more

Was told to come here for a Chicago hot dog experience. Was really good! I just ended up liking the milkshake more than the hotdog. Don't get me wrong. I finished it because I love sauerkraut, but I just felt like it was just a good hotdog. Nothing spectacular. The milkshake on the other hand was phenomenal, caramel, with chunks of blended up pretzel, it was super delicious. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, and there was a handful of tables to sit at to enjoy your food. I would specifically come back for the milkshake, and then the hotdog would be an afterthought. No shade tho. Still a solid place for a meal. read more
Those hot dogs were delicious especially the Icelandic hot dog since the hot dog links taste premium. The Maxwell Street Polish was also delicious. The fries were also delicious and had the right amount of salt and crispiness. There are kiosks to order food from and the store doesn't accept cash payments. Overall, I would go there again to try more stuff on the menu such as a cheeseburger, and it's a good option for people wanting to crave a quick meal. read more

Husband's Chicago dog (left) was ok but my Bulldawg (right) and the onion rings with awesome sauce (BBQ + ranch) were AMAZING! The Bulldawg and onion rings with awesome sauce were worth the trip from Kansas! The dine in space was pretty small with less than 10 tables, but at least it wasn't like many restaurants where there are 10 open tables but all of them are gross. I was exploring the city one night and decided to stop into Devil Dawgs for a quick bite. While there, I ordered a Chicago dog with a cherry wine and it was pretty decent. The hot dog was pretty simply, almost tasted like it was boiled. What really made the hot dog is the toppings. It was LOADED! A dill pickle, tomato, relish, and a few other things. The dog was pretty affordable and definitely worth a try if you're in the area. The perfect snack to eat on the go. read more

Amazing! We had the big Chicago, bulldawg, and bacon cheddar. We wish the cheese was more melty but it was still great.. The standout was definitely the bulldawg, with the crispy batter! It was a pleasant crunchy surprise with so much flavor. We also had a chocolate shake which was thick and yummy. It's a pretty big one, good for sharing. There's a good variety but not as many dog styles as some others. But they do have burgers, chicken and sides which some other places don't. The inside was typical for area hot dog restaurants. There's not a lot of seating but people don't stay too long. Ordering was easy at the front with computers but someone always greets you as you walk in. Chicago, IL - our conference didn't feed us lunch so we needed to find something quick and easy. The vegan Chicago dog was perfect! I was surprised at how meaty it seemed. I added a pumpkin shake (definitely not vegan) with whip cream and sprinkles in top. Soooo tasty! It's a limited time flavor so grab one now. Service counter was quick and efficient. There's not a lot of seating available. The only disconcerting thing was the brilliant green of the relish. Somehow that just did not seem natural to me. Tasted great though so no complaints here. Would definitely return when next in town. In fact, when I showed my handsome husband a photo of my Chicago dog he insisted that next time we are in town we stop here straight away! read more

My friend and I opted for here because it was the shortest line of the late night food options and relatively close to Lollapalooza. We waited around 20 minutes in line and waited only for a few minutes for our food to be ready. We got: Polish dog (3/5) -- the skin on this was super thick and hard to bite through, the flavor of the hot dog didn't do much for me...the peppers and onions carried the dish Chicago dog (3/5) -- it was kind of soggy, cold, and a little too acidic for my liking...the sport peppers were also very potent Bag o' fries (2/5) -- soggy, limp fries that didn't have any seasoning Only when we were waiting for our order did I read that this place is more renowned for its burgers and immediately regretted my decision. Still, I'm not sure how much better the burgers are than their hot dogs and fries. read more
I order a big Chicago dog and it was decent. It was a bit too salty but I enjoyed the toppings. The place was a little crowded and may explain why the floor was dirty with food etc. For a 1st timer, I guess it was ok... I had nothing to compare it to. Next time, I'll prefer to visit another hot dog joint. read more

What's one of the things you do when you come to Chicago? You seek the best Chicago dog, of course! This is a long way around the bun (haha) but Devil Dawgs was the BEST dog we had this weekend! We tried one from an unnamed location, they were out of pickles, so - kinda' doesn't count. We tried another (from another unnamed location - after we ate here, in order to have something to compare this to) and it fell short. Devild Dawgs knows how to make a Chicago Dog right(eously!) The perfect amount of crisp picklem peppery heat, and celery salt - all that yummy goodness that makes a dog a la Chicago - enrobed in a poppy seed bun! Yes, PLEASE!!!! My husband and I (who are not Chicagoans) tried to make these at home, and they are no where near as good as Devil Dawgs! Hands down the best CD I've ever had!!! (and I've tried a lot!) read more
