We were in the area and since this spot was in walking distance we decided to dine here for a date night out. I love that I am able to order on their kiosk & as I receive their emails I was able to input a code for free fries. I ordered their Italian beef sandwich, first time as I typically go for their hot dogs. Our order came out quickly with an exception to the milkshake which required a little more time. I will say, the Italian beef could be a little more flavorful, but I feel like that's a Chicagoan thing to say. I ordered mine slightly wet. The fries were good, hand cut in case that's an important distinction to make. We were pleased with our order. I will call out that there is no public restroom which was a slight inconvenience but overall it was a good experience.
You really can't go wrong with a classic Polish topped with grilled onions and mustard. Simple, flavorful, and exactly what I was craving! This place has a fun, nostalgic vibe that reminds me of neighborhood hot dog stands from the '80s. The vintage photos and décor give it plenty of character, making it feel like an old-school Chicago spot. The fountain drink selection is impressive, with plenty of choices to satisfy just about anyone. The prices are fair, the portions are satisfying, and the restaurant is clean and inviting. My only drawback is the ordering system. While ordering from a touchscreen is quick and efficient, I think it takes away some of the personal interaction between customers and staff. It's not a dealbreaker, but I do miss being greeted by someone behind the counter and placing my order the old-fashioned way. Overall, it's a great place to grab a bite. If you're looking for a tasty Chicago-style Polish in a casual setting, this spot is definitely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back.
Devil Dawgs is a great place to check out if you're downtown and want to try a Chicago dog or any of their other unique hot dogs. I got the vegan Chicago style dog and the spicy chicken sandwich and shared an order of fries with my sibs. Bag of fries is pretty big so I'd recommend grabbing some to share. Surprisingly my favorite item was the spicy chicken sandwich. It was a little big and messy but it had great flavor. The place is kinda small so grab a table as soon as one opens up and then order at the tablet in front. Food was hot and fresh. I didn't get to try a milkshake but I was curious about them as the flavors sounded good, next time.
This is pound for pound (or oz for oz) one of the best shakes in America. I have yet to find one that is perfect from start to end like this. And they make it so fast! Great vibes.
This location of Devil Dawgs does have some indoor seating available (~20 seats) and ordering is done on the tablets at the front before seating and bussing your own tables. While the portion sizes aren't the biggest for the price, everything comes out fresh and piping hot. Cheese Curds (4.5/5): Super salty, perfectly light crunch on the outside. An absolute hazard to eat and easily the best thing I had here. Onion Rings (1/5): The batter on the onion rings were ridiculously sweet to the point it almost tasted like funnel cake batter. Not sure if it's normally that texture, but definitely a miss. Devil Dawg (4/5): Bun and toppings are pretty much standard issue down the board, but the actual hot dog is a much nicer quality than at other spots around the city with a good snap. Portillo's is definitely a vibe, but I do prefer the Chicago dog here. Nicely balanced across sodium, tangy, sharpness, and even a bit of spice.
Intrigued by the Icelandic Dawg which has similar ingredients to the traditional Danish Red hotdog with everything :-). Had to try it out, kinda pricey at $8.50 but hit the spot and has a kick to it! Only thing missing was really the pickles on top :-) Not a really busy location past dinner time. Service was not the fastest, but made to order :-)
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it was full of people and upbeat music was playing. I was immediately drawn to their digital menu board. After seeing their vegan options, I was happy to see that they offer vegan hot dogs made two ways but sad that their fries and tater tots are cooked in beef tallow, and surprised that the hot dogs were $7.00 which might be too expensive for some people. After we ordered a vegan Chicago dog with a soda for me and a vegan Chicago dog with a bucket of fries for hubby, our food was quickly prepared and delivered. Although my vegan hot dog was cooked well, I was slightly annoyed at how quickly the dog fell out of the bun and the large amount of neon green relish which minimize the other flavors of the hot dog. Likewise, I was saddened and surprised and that none of their sides (fries and tater tots) are vegan friendly since they cook these items in beef tallow. Overall, while the vegan hot dog was delicious, I feel that $7 is a bit pricey for a vegan hotdog especially when there aren't any vegan sides available.
First time at this place. As soon as you come into the establishment the smell of great food oozes. You self order. And they call your name when your order is ready. I ordered a Chicago Dog with some home fries. Perfect bite of the sausage with the peppers onions. And the fries sizzling hot with the skin. Great little spot.
Pretty pricey for some hot dogs but they're so good. I prefer devil dawgs to portillos and their selection of hot dog dishes is phenomenal. Whenever someone visits, i make sure we go here to get a Chicago dog. Tho im torn between the standard jumbo chicago dog and the green chile dog. Service is quick and great, everything is clean and organized tho the spot is pretty small so it can get crowded in a rush.
I love stopping here. It's the best place to get the cheapest dogs. I'd always recommend getting the two because you'll always want another one. The service was very fast and we were there while they were full. There is seating inside, but not a whole lot so don't plan on staying. We've been a couple of times now when we're visiting and will definitely be back again!
BLUF: Place to come once and say you did. Food (3/5): I'm not even sure what I ate. Pickles on pickles on pickles. The neon leprechaun cum on my dog & pickles was... gross. I couldn't finish mine. The fries were amazing. The other dogs we got were delicious. My stomach did NOT agree with me after, but it was worth it. Service (5/5): Quick & limited interaction. You can order with a human or just use their kiosk. The kiosk was easy, had photos, and made it easy to customize items. Ambiance (5/5): Hole-in-the-wall place. Graffiti on the walls and sticky tables. It's your typical dive-eatery. No parking.
Front desk at our hotel recommended this place and it was closer to try this than Portillo's. Small space with ordering at the counter in the back or a kiosk for self order. Only a few 4 foot person tables and some high top for 2. No bathroom. Closest one is Pete's around the corner at the end of the next block. 5/5 bucket of fries w/cheese. The fries were soft and super flavorful. Not crispy if that's your kind of thing. The nacho cheese was on the side and warm and tasty. They gave us 2 containers for one order which i appreciated. 5/5 it's not a corn dawg with cotija cheese and corn. My fave one. Very flavorful. The hot dog itself was also delicious. 4/5 Chicago dawg - got the small size which was perfect since we sampled so much. 4/5 hot chile cheddar dawg - super cheesy and added onions. My second fav. 4.5/5 Italian beef - wet with hot jardiane (sp). The peppers were spicy but really good. It's a pretty large serving. 5/5 caramel salty pretzel shake - the pretzel bits were a perfect salty mix. Pricing was very reasonable! I'd come back again for the not your corn dawg and shake!
Yum! They have a variety of hotdogs but I got their chicago dog. A little pricey for hotdogs but worth trying for the experience.

Went here after Lollapalooza for a late night eat as I wanted my husband to try a Chicago dog before we left the city. I thought all the things would make it weird but it was actually quite good! I liked all the pickles. The bag of fries with awesome sauce were so good as well. The line was long but once you put your order in, the food is ready super fast. They were playing the Olympics which was fun to watch too. read more

I don't like soggy Hot Dogs so it was nice that both Hot Dogs we got had some crunch to it, although a different type of crunch. Chicago dog: 3/5 seemed like a normal sausage. Pickle added a nice crunch. Can't beat LA Hot Dogs. Better than a Costco Hot Dog though! Icelandic dawg: 5/5 One of the few Hot Dogs I have ever liked was from Iceland. So when I saw this on the menu I had to. I liked the sausage a lot. Onion was crispy and added good texture. The sauce was bomb too. Would come back just for this. This was a hang loose place. We had 2 Chicago dogs, a slider, and some fries. 3 stars is generous. The fries were soggy to point of limp, the slider and dogs were VERY messy. Maybe that is part of the "charm" of eating the food. The slider was very greasy as well. read more

I really liked the different concoctions they had here with the hot dogs. Unfortunately, some ingredients worked and some were mediocre. The menu has a variety of items, such as your standard hot dogs, burgers, fried chicken, shakes, tater tots, French fries, etc. The bag of onion rings with sauce were tasty. The bulldawg had interesting ingredients when reading the menu but it works. It had a lot of flavor and it was a great size. I usually don't eat too many deep fried items but this one mixed with the chili, cheese, coleslaw, grilled onions, and bbq sauce was amazing. I tried other limited items and some were okay and not great. Good service. Ample seating. Prices were standard for the area. read more

Was looking for a place to get a Chicago Dog and found this place near our hotel! It was tasty and the shakes were great! The fried cheese curds were great! Never had that before and really enjoyed it! read more
After trying several other Chicago dog spots, I have to admit devil dawgs has shown to be better than some others. Service was quick and it was around $5 or so. The bun itself was not soggy which is quite important! Stuffed with all its toppings, the peppers had a nice bite! I definitely recommend and will come back to try some of their other offerings! read more

Ordering was easy and service was quick. Seating area is small with the menu located at the far end of the building. We had a group of 13 and we were all able to find seats to enjoy our meal. 10/10 would try again read more

This was our first Chicago dog we've tried and it was quite a delicious option! We tried two and also some onion rings (the latter being not that great in descending order). Considering we later tried Portillos, I'd say I prefer Devil Dawg's Chicago dog more! Food: - Jumbo Chicago Dog: This cost a little more and honestly it wasnt that big of a hot dog. Which is a shame! I'm probably comparing it too much to Costco hot dogs. Anyway, I thought this Chicago dog was quite more flavorful, loved the moist bun, and their pickle is 2x more crunchier than Portillos. I'm a bit more of a fan of their flavor contrasts and overall quality is fresher. Yum! - Icelandic Dog: This was chosen as a recommendation from a friend and I'm kind of meh about the dog. Mainly because the flavors were not distinctly unique nor did it stand out in any way. I'm a fan of crispy shallots--which were plenty--but the remoulade was a bit lacking. Not a bad dog, but not one I'd try again for the sheer choice of variety. Next! - Onion Rings: Alright so no one recommended this, and I dont blame anyone but us for trying them. They were not very crunchy, not very unique, and was NOT a highlight. Very standard. Honestly, not memorable. Should have tried some other options. Pros: - Delicious and unique options. A solid 4 star choice! - Quick service after ordering. - Fun and casual interior. Definitely gives a "part of the neighborhood" vibe. Cons: - Price is a little higher than I'd like. - Not a fan of some of the food options. - Seating is limited. Not a horrible selection but it's far from ample. Thanks Devil Dawg! I was looking forward to trying Devil Dawgs for their Chicago hot dog and Maxwell Street Polish. This place was such a disappointment. The day before, I had a polish and hot dog from the hotdog stand at Grant Park and the day before that I had a hot dog and polish from Wrigley Field (yes, it's been years since I've been to Chicago and I missed the hot dogs and polish). The food at the hot dog stand and Wrigley Field made Devil Dawgs taste like crap. The polish was extremely tough, the hot dog reminded me of Oscar Meyer, I threw it away, and they didn't even use the poppy seed buns. The restaurant is cashless and uses only kiosks to order. I had no idea, so I stood at the counter for a couple of minutes waiting to be helped, until I finally noticed the sign on printer paper. Not everyone is local and knows to look for the kiosk. read more
Great place for Chicago-style hotdogs, burgers, good home style fries and several other items, including a variety of shakes. Around the corner from. Columbia College, they have a few tables in their narrow space and they're open til 10 most nights. They can be pricey ($7+ for a shake?) but good for fast food. read more
Went to Chicago for the first time. Figured for food we'd try here since it had some kid friendly options for our son. I got the Chicago hotdog, and it was pretty good. I had to take the peppers off because they kept sliding off. My fiance tried the bulldawg. It's got a kick to it, but it tastes really good. This place can get pretty busy, but the service is quick. If you're in Chicago and want to try good hotdogs I definitely would recommend coming here. read more
Best place in The Loop for hot dogs. Devil Dawgs has a few locations and this is the most happening one. It certainly isn't a surprise because there's a lot going on around here and it's full of commuters and tourists. Even if you don't want hot dogs you can still get something else. There's hamburgers, and they have a few vegan friendly styles. I got a vegan hot dog to go. It was lunch and it was busy, and there was no room to dine inside. The menu is mostly hot dogs unsurprisingly. Many styles to choose from. There's of course Chicago style, and many other kinds that are similar. It also has the choice to replace a hot dog sausage with a vegan one. With who knows what's in a hot dog, why wouldn't you? I had a Dah Big Chicago Dawg. It's about $6.50 for most hot dogs. That's kind of a lot. It at least is big. There's also lots of good toppings. It's the basic Chicago style. This has celery salt, mustard, onions, a pickle, relish, sport peppers, and tomatoes. It seems to be the most popular one here. This is a hot dog done right. Check out this location for a hot dog before going anywhere else. It has a few more locations farther north. The seating is pretty limited so most people get takeout. read more

Can't get much better than a traditional Chicago dog! I was surprised that we were able to get in and out in 20 minutes, even downtown. We may have been there at a slower time, but we ordered right away and got our food in only a few minutes. The taste was fantastic, of course. My husband had two wishes for our Chicago trip, deep dish pizza and Chicago dogs, and he got exactly what he was hoping for! read more
I don't like hot dogs, but this place gives you no choice. I'm in Chicago! My friend told me I had to try a hot dog. I looked it up on Yelp and found this place, noticing that they have Southern Slaw Dog. I love coleslaw! But... When we got there, I didn't see it on their menu. And I didn't care because I was already determined to try it specifically. I asked the cashier if they could make Southern Slaw Dog, because it's on Yelp, and he nodded. No problem! My friend took the fries, which were just as good as our hot dogs! I don't usually eat this kind of food because I don't really like it, but this place is definitely worth a stop here. The hot dogs are flavorful and there are vegan options. It's not a corn dog was an interesting mix of flavors, mexican street corn on a street dog. Let's just say it did not disappoint. After walking from downtown CHI, I allowed myself to indulge in a strawberry Oreo milkshake. Please tell me why I have never thought of adding Oreos in my strawberry milkshakes? This milkshake has made it to my top 5. They have a good selection of 'think outside the box' flavors, if you like the salty sweet complement, aim for the caramel pretzel. If you decide to stop by, grab that milkshake. Quick and efficient service. Seat yourself or grab a bite and drink to go and continue on sightseeing. read more
Authentic classic chicago style hotdogs with neon relish and peppers. If thats what your looking for then this is the place they also have cheese fries as well. I tried a single slider and added pickles to the standard sauce and onions. Sliders are juicy and grilled to perfection. Service is fast about 5-6 tables with window bar seats as well. read more
Forget about the deep dish Chicago pizza... I was all about the Chicago hotdogs! Seriously. I could've eaten them every. single. day. It was something about the pickles... and I've never really been into pickles until I discovered this year that they were CUCUMBERS?! I don't know how I went all my life not knowing this. We ordered their Chicago dog and dah big Chicago dawg maybe? All I know is that I enjoyed it. My Chicago dog came with mustard, onion, relish, pickle (WOO), tomato, sport peppers, and celery salt. Honestly surprised I haven't come here sooner. I know chicago is known for Chicago dogs, and this the spot to get a tasty one. It's a bit hole-in the-wall, but that's part of the charm. Devil Dawgs has a surprisingly large menu of creative hotdogs, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. They also have vegetarian options (both hotdogs & burgers) & a lot of different sides to choose from. There is seating at this location ( a few tables) but it looked like a lot of their business is takeout. Definitely check this spot out for a great (and inexpensive) meal. And DON'T forget to order the fries with a side of cheese sauce (amazingly nostalgic) read more

Lawd have mercy. Fly immediately to Chicago and run don't walk to Devil Dawg!! We came out of being tourists at the Hancock Building and right across the street is the famous Devil Dawg. We ordered Dah Big Chicago Dawg. The dog, mustard, onion, relish (which is turquoise and I don't know why and I don't care cause it's so good) a giant pickle, tomato and little peppers Called sport peppers. It was so good. So many flavors and they all go together! We also got the best onion rings I've had in a while. Cooked to order while you wait. They were simply the best. They have a lot of sauces, but the guy suggested their "Awesome sauce". I think it's just ranch and BBQ sauce. It was awesome. read more
Had to Try the Chicago Dog, and what better place to try it then Devil Dawgs. Strawberry Milkshake : 5/5. Holly smokes sooo good! Best milkshake I had in my life. Big Chicago Dog : 5/5. Meat was juicy and the Chicago dog was not as bag as I thought it be it was very delicious. I just thought the Tomtato and large pickles / pepper combo was a bit odd but it works ! Maxwell Polish : 3/5 Everything was still good, but it was missing something for me. I think the carmalize onions was very sweet so need a freshness quality to it, like pickle or Totmao. O" Tot - 5/5 Something so simple can be so good. Crispy but not greasy with perfect cheesy dipping sauce ! I'd highly recommend coming here. It gets pretty busy though :) read more
