We stopped by Devil Dawgs on our way home and had a good overall experience. The customer service was amazing, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself was very clean and well organized. The only downside was the online ordering experience. I never received a notification that my order was ready for pickup, so that could definitely be improved. My hot dogs were also a bit chewy, which I'm guessing may have been because we ordered later in the evening. On the other hand, the fries were absolutely amazing, crispy, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal! When in Rome, right? I was told by a local to not go to a chain restaurant for a Chicago hot dog. Locals support local here and I see why. The Chicago dog was not basic dog at all. It had plenty of toppings, most noticeable was the famous relish. I don't know how to explain it but there was an explosion of flavor in each bite. It's not something that can be easily replicated. Must be portions of the topping to dog. Definitely a must try. Also tried the burger just for a comparison or the experience. It was a pretty good size. This was a nice spot to grab a quick lunch! They were very busy, but seemed to move quickly. The service was good- but not necessarily outstanding, but that could have been due to the large crowd. We know that Chicago is all about their pizza, popcorn and dogs and this was our stop for a good hotdog. The place is super small, but they have outside seating for you to enjoy. It's very crowded because everyone's waiting for their order. The guy at the register was super awesome and helpful and took your time with every single customer. I made it worth it. The food was amazing. You can tell that this establishment definitely paired their food with the right flavors to enhance the experience. My friend was visiting from San Francisco and she wanted to try a Chicago dog so I took her to Devil Dawgs. Devil Dawgs makes the best Chicago dog I've ever had! So fresh and flavorful. She is pescatarian so it was awesome that she was able to get a veggie dog Chicago style. She also had the Icelandic Dawg which she said was very good as well. My Chicago dog came out very fast but her veggie dog took about 10 minutes. I love how the location is close to magnificent mile so it was easy to grab the dogs then go back to shopping. While traveling to Chicago I knew I had to try a hotdog, saw this place and decided to try it, I order a bacon sausage hotdog with mustard, when I first came in the shop was very small and it was packed so I knew it was going to be good, the staff was super nice and told me their most popular items. I stopped the to grab a dog at this unassuming take out restaurant. Pretty divy and simple menu with just the classics. Service was quick and friendly. Hot dog was ready in about 5 minutes. We were walking around after our Mobs and Crime Tour during our most recent visit after a company picnic and saw the interesting sign for Devil Dawgs. We love a good hot dog and needed a quick lunch so this looked promising. I was craving a Chicago dog and this was convenient to our subway stop. This is a pretty cool spot with a massive menu. They had some high top seating along the window but most customers were taking their food to go. The line was short and I was enjoying my food within 5-10 minutes. They had no problem making a plain dog with ketchup for my 3 year old either. The Chicago dog was exactly what I needed and it was delicious. The bun did fall apart pretty fast but that was my only complaint. It was a true authentic and traditional Chicago dog. Just a tourist exploring Chicago dogs... I have actually been here twice and after the 2nd (more positive) experience, I think I can say they do excellent hot dogs here. LOGISTICS A convenient location near Magnificent Mile that is across for the Water Tower Place. Order at the counter and food is cooked to order, otherwise there is an option to order online. No indoor seating as the inside is purely for ordering / waiting for your food order. There is limited seating outdoors but something to keep in mind if the weather is poor. People are really good about eating their food quickly and shuffling, so please be considerate and wait for your food to show up before saving a table. Slight disclaimer... the speed in which your food come out may be hit or miss... I have only been here twice, but during my last visit on Memorial Day, our order took over 45 minutes for 2 Chicago Dogs and fries from when I ordered. Had I reviewed this place back then, I would have given it 3 stars because no hot dog is worth waiting that long. It didn't even look that busy during our visit, as 3 other parties before us were waiting similar times. Fortunately on my 2nd visit in the fall, the food only took about 10-15 minutes for the same order... so it must have been bad luck that Memorial Day. FOOD Chicago Dog: Hits all the marks for a Chicago dog with the pickle and onion - I think it had more finesse than what you get at a Portillo's. Good snap on the hot dog (advertised as locally made) and great pickles! Big Chicago Dog: Honestly the same as above but with a much larger, meatier hot dog. A good option if you want a bigger hot dog in general with the Chicago fixings. Bag "O" Fries: Chicago sure likes it French fries with hot dogs... of the fries I tried during my visits. They're soft with a slightly greasy texture and light seasoning... but they still have a crisp end that makes them addicting. If you've ever been to Seattle, they're reminiscent of Dick's Drive-In fries. For 2 people, one Bag "O" Fries felt like enough. OVERALL Glad my 2nd visit to Devil Dawgs was a lot more positive than my Memorial Day visit. It was a nice option for exploring local eats as a tourist... especially as I explore Chicago dogs. It costs a little more than Portillo's, but the quality is better which you are paying for, and I think they have better French fries than Portillo's. read more

I ordered Devil Dawgs on DoorDash after not eating all day, so I was definitely hungry and excited to try a variety of things! Here's what I got: * Two Devil Dawgs * Two Sliders * Cheese Fries * A side of their signature Devil Sauce For the hot dogs, I tried the It's Not a Corn Dawg, based on a friend's recommendation, and it was my favorite thing I ordered. If you're getting a hot dog, this is a must-try! I also got the Chicago Dog because I wanted to see how theirs stacked up, and it was solid--classic and satisfying. For the sliders, I went with the Bacon and Cheese Single Slider and the Elvis Slider. The Elvis Slider caught my attention because it includes peanut butter, which I had to try. While it was unique, the peanut butter was a bit underwhelming, and it tasted pretty similar to the regular Bacon Slider. Both were good overall, but I'd probably just stick with the Bacon Slider next time and/or try another one they're too similar. The Cheese Fries were great--tons of fries with plenty of cheese. As for the Devil Sauce, be warned: it's spicy! If you like heat, it's a great addition, but keep that in mind if you're sensitive to spice. Overall, I'd say Devil Dawgs is right on par with Portillo's, but it's a nice change of pace if you want specialty hot dogs and some interesting options.
