Flew into Chicago late, wanted a taste of Chicago but didn't want to head back into the city so decided to try Superdawg (on our list for a while). It was almost 11pm (they're open until 2am on Fridays.) and there were at least a dozen other vehicles in their drive-in stalls. Ordered their specialties, a Superdawg and Whoopskidawg with Superfries, Chocolate Super Malt and Black Kows. Service was fast and friendly at 11pm on a Friday. We were eating in our rental car in apx 10 min. It was cool to eat outside on a warm July night in a classic, 1950s style drive-in. The food was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I normally avoid krinkle cut fries because they are usually frozen and mushy or mealy. Not Superfries. These fresh cut fries were practically fried mashed potatoes. We loved them! The drinks were perfect. The Black Kows is basically a root beer float and served with an extra root beer "sidecar." Our only complaints were about errors with the garnishes. We specifically said we wanted all the garnishes on both dawgs and they only gave us the standard grilled onions on the Whoopskidawg and forgot the sport peppers on the Superdawg. Otherwise we loved everything. We might go back next week (before we fly home) because I really want to try their Whoopercheesie Burger and maybe a Supersundae. Superdawg is hands down the best hot dog in Chicago. My two absolute favorites are the classic Superdawg and the Whoopskidawg -- which is basically their version of a Polish and SO good. The Superdawg is iconic for a reason, and the Whoopskidawg has the perfect smoky flavor with all the toppings. Also, people do not talk enough about the sides here. The Super Veggies are honestly one of my favorite sides anywhere, and the onion chips are dangerously addictive. Crispy, salty, and perfect with their sauces. Beyond the food, I love that it still feels old-school Chicago with the drive-in setup and giant hot dog mascots on the roof. Iconic drive-in that feels like a time capsule. I'd heard about this place so many times on travel shows that it was time to stop and I was not disappointed. I had the classic superdawg and a chocolate supermalt. The food takes a little while to come out, so be patient. I enjoyed the Chicago style dog, although mine was missing the sport peppers that I ordered. The malt was a good consistency. The fries were good, but I prefer mine crisper. The uniqueness of the drive in is pretty awesome. Even so I opted to walk up to the ordering window. It was confusing at first but I had a lot of help from the locals who are very sweet and friendly here in Chicago. First, you walk up to order at the first window and receive a ticket. Next, you wait for your number to be called at the second window next to the ordering window and pay when you get your food. Guess it's easier than I made it out to be, haha. I ordered the Superdawg which also came with some crinkle cut fries. The wiener itself was super plump and extremely flavorful. The fries were nice and crispy. Overall a decent experience. You literally cannot miss Superdawg from the road. You'll see the huge hotdog couple with their bright red light up eyes way before you see the rest of the restaurant. The parking lot is moderately sized (probably considered big for the city), and there are many spots to pull in and order from your car window to the little call box in the parking spot. These are set up for both driver and passenger windows to be ordered from. There are also a few tables for outside seating and a walk up window to order from that is enclosed in a little hallway like space with a few inside seats as well. We had three in our group for a mid afternoon late lunch stop after an O'Hare pick up. My dad and sister had never been to the city and I was tasked with a great chicago dog experience. We ordered at the walk up window, three superdawgs with fries and drinks. We waiting only a handful of minutes for our order and it all came in a brown bag, and we walked out to the outside table. It turned out they had only given us two superdawgs, so I went back in to request the third we paid for. They reviewed the receipt and without saying anything just provided the third hot dog and that was that! I love superdawg because the hotdogs come neatly in a little box with the fries smashed in and it's all self contained. Their hotdog with all the toppings is one of my favorites. Service is fast, and it's so nice to not have to get out of your car if you don't want. This is an iconic little joint on the northside with easy parking and delicious food, so I definitely recommend it. I know everyone has an opinion on their favorite Chicago dog in the city, so I certainly won't try to tell anyone they're wrong, but this is definitely a fun spot worth stopping at. I'm not local, but I've heard of Superdawg because of food shows on the Travel Channel back in 2010s. I finally got a chance to go when I was in Chicago and stayed outside of downtown. I ordered inside the restaurant instead of the car hop intercom. The cashier is incredibly nice and helpful. I got the Superdawg, which came neatly packed in a box with a Chicago dog and fries. It had been years since I last had Superdawg, but with one bite, I instantly remembered why this place is always so busy and loved. I've always remembered the iconic Superdawg mascots on the roof from when I was a kid and I love that they're still up there. You can pull up in your car and order right from your window. They'll bring the food out to you so you can enjoy it in your car. If you prefer, you can walk up to the counter and order inside. There's a small indoor seating area and a few benches outside for dining as well. The Superdawg itself is delicious. It's served in their cool packaging box with a green tomato, sport peppers, and packed in the box with warm crinkle cut fries. The Superburger is also really good, with the same neon green relish and onions you find on the Superdawg. It's also served with fresh fries on the side. Superdawg is a true Chicago gem, and it's easy to see why they've been going strong for over 75 years. read more

I had seen Superdawg on a bunch of TV shows, and was excited to try it out. I parked in a stall and actually walked inside to place my order. I went with a Superdawg with everything on it. They package everything super nice in a box. You get your dog with mustard, relish, onion, pickle, little sport peppers and a pickled tomato! They also hook you up with a decent sized serving of crispy crinkle cut fries. I took my box outside to one of their tables and dug in. How was it? Superdawg- As far as the dog goes, this might have been my favorite dog I had in Chicago. It was a plumper, thicker dog than most of the Vienna skinny dogs you get at most places. The bun was incredibly soft, and I liked how they give you a bunch of little sport peppers instead of one or two bigger ones. Easier to eat one in each bite. The fries were super crispy and delicious in their own right. That pickled tomato was a unique twist, too. Tasty! The building is cool! They have the 2 dogs on top of the roof with glowing eyes. This, or 35th Street Red Hots were my 2 favorite hot dog/fry combos of the bunch. Would give the edge of the dog to Superdawg and the fries to 35th Street. I have been going to Superdawg for decades and not much has changed. On a Saturday afternoon it was packed. We did try and order from our car , but the system was not working. We were a little disappointed. Ordering did not change, you go up to the window and the order is written down on paper. The food was as good as always. The burgers are one of my favorites. Me and a few of my co-workers stopped at Superdawg Drive-In while we were in Chicago in July 2024, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. This place is pure nostalgia -- a classic Chicago drive-in that somehow still feels exactly the way it probably did decades ago, only better. The service was fast and friendly, and the food came out piping hot. I had the Superdawg (of course), and it was everything a Chicago-style hot dog should be -- perfectly steamed poppy-seed bun, snappy dog, tangy mustard, crisp pickle, onions, sport peppers, the works. My husband swears by the superdawg, my kiddos love the chicken midgies, and you cannot skip a side order of onion crispies. If we're going late at night (because it's open super late if you have a craving!), the pineapple shake is always a 10/10. It's very sad how much of a decline in product they produce vs when I was a child. The cheese cups are a gritty texture, the fries don't seem fresh at all as if they were just re fried and set to get mushy. And there's no snap when it comes to the hot dog. We placed 2 Superdawgs with SuperVeggies (fried vegetables) and the order arrived in about less than 10 minutes. We parked the car at the drive up and the car hops deliver directly to your car. They no longer serve the food on the tray and are given everything in the paper bag. Overall the food was good but personally it was too salty.
