True blue Chicago Italian beef stand. They recently won the well deserved BEST Italian beef in Chicago in a major real deal contest against the best of the best north to south across the city. Italian beef is my go to there but I soon love their true Chicago hot dogs. I imagine they could run up against any dog in the city. Their Italian beef however is no joke. Thinly sliced, rightly seasoned and stuffed into a real roll (I believe Turano) that holds it all together even after a good dunk into the juice. In a time when so many beef stands are getting skimpy Bob-O's still gives a generous portion of delicious well seasoned Italian Beef on their sammich. They're not skimpy for sure. Gotta get it dipped for the real taste. Even though gardiniera is my go to today I topped it with really good sweet green and red peppers. Scrumptious! Ah alas I missed my gardiniera peppers and hot oil so I second thought myself and ordered a side. Yep, just as I thought, it turned an already scrumptious sammich into an orgy in my mouth! I walked out the right way; with beef juice all over my nice t-shirt. Their fries are a heaping bag full enough for two- tree people. They're cooked just right skin on, slightly dark, lightly salted, and full of flavor. Plenty of crispy slightly burnt edge pieces in the bag for that great crunch to go along with the softer fry. Their staff is friendly and straight forward and know their business. I wouldn't cause trouble in this place on a late night because these guys look like they can handle business. But man do they know their beefs and dogs. They also have a full menu of other great sammiches and sides. Nothing here is bad. The price is right for what you get. I know some folks like to whine about the price but where else ya gonna go get an excellent well sized beef for 8 bucks? Nowhere! Thats where. So quit your whining and recognize the real deal Bob-O's is. Put out 12 bucks and some change for a huge excellent beef and more fries than I should have eaten. Anywhere else would have robbed me. The decor is old school Chicago dog stand with a wrap around stainless steel counter to sit at on a red fixed to the floor swivel chair. Like the kind they had when you were a kid and spun around on the chair. Outside they have a few great picnic tables to enjoy the air while chowing down. If you're in the mood, grab your grub to go and drive a few blocks west to Schiller Woods where there's plenty of outdoor seat. Oh yeah, and they got parking. Which is always a huge plus these days. Try these guys out. Remember they are now the Italian beef kings in Chicago and beyond.

I've tried their other location on N. Milwaukee Ave but I wanted to try the original store. The guy behind the counter was jovial and nice. I ordered the Italian Beef, fries and a soda. As this is a cash only place, I was grateful I had the cash on me. There is an ATM just in case you need it. The dining area is mostly stool sitting, as I'm short I couldn't get comfortable. I hate when my legs dangle with no bar. I received my dipped Italian beef and it had a nice garlic and a little peppery taste. The meat was extremely tender and the peppers had a good heat to them. The fresh cut fries were done perfectly. Nice and fluffy with a little crisp. The sandwich was devoured in no time. I actually wanted another, but didn't want to be greedy.

    Italian beef. Good stuff!

Heard about the reputation and lived up to it. Was a very good Italian beef. I will go back again.

They won Chicago's best Italian beef and it was delicious. We moved from the area so we do t get over there that much and cannot wait until the second location opens up at Devon and Milwaukee . Had a beef wet and a cheese dog! Love the fires

About the best thing I can say about Bob-o's was that it was clean. Otherwise: Not the best Italian beef as they claim Parking was minimal Cash-only Customer service was not good Prices were high for what you get Food was average at best

Outstanding Chicago-style Italian beef. Authentic, original and worthy of the praise and loyalty heaped upon it by locals. Ask for your beef hot wet and sweet if you want some added bell peppers. Or any of the other delicious fare on the menu. Don't forget to get an order of fries for you and perhaps two friends to share. This an absolutely bare bones restaurant with immovable stools dotting a counter around the perimeter of the dining area. There are no bathrooms and a couple of picnic tables in front. This is really a take-out place but the food is great and the staff are responsive.

    Soggy

I was so very disappointed with the food I got. I went there yesterday (Monday) and got a chardog, a soggy, and 2 tamales. Both the chardog and tamales looked and tasted like they were leftover from Saturday because they were so dried out. The soggy was that but had no taste other than being hot (spicy) with way too much oregano. I wish I would have taken a picture of the chardog but I was hungry and with the fries and Pepsi I was able to get it down. The only thing I enjoyed were the fries. I had a little wait so couldn't understand why my food was so cold. Never Again!

Bob-Os has the best ITALIAN BEEF in Chicago. I got it extra wet with mozzarella and hot peppers. It was fantastic.

Best Italian Beef in Chicago. It's worth the drive up Irving Park Rd. It's located in a cool neighborhood with plenty of seating. The staff was very friendly.

Okay it's been a while and I'll post this at the risk of repeating myself. Today I popped in after a morning ride on the Harley. I had a taste for one of Bob O's always tasty cheese burgers. I gotta tell ya , it sure was good but it usually always is :) I don't know where they get the meat from but it's so good. Littered with some grilled onions, lettuce, and tomato it hit the spot Washed it down with a diet soda that also tastes fresh Now I got to hike my leg back over that Harley on a full stomach and ride off into the sunset. All kidding aside , thanks guys for taking care of my cheese burger fix Stay safe All

Awesome value! Large portions of delicious food! Italian beef was fantastic- moist, flavorful beef! Chili and tamales were tasty! The fries were fantastic - crispy and fresh!

Not the best beef at all. Fattier cut of beef than Johnnie's (which is the actual best beef) and had a funky taste. Fries are salted well.

I will always have fond memories of eating a ton of hot dog lunches here. It occurred during my 'serious' working life at Jensen Sound Labs in nearby Schiller Park. Back in the day, Gene & Jude's was a teensey tiny, stand-and-eat-over-a-counter-french-fries-stuffed-into-your-snappy-Vienna-Beef-dog kinda place. It still has a devoted cult following. As it is with all good things, the restaurant has only become bigger and better! Gene & Jude's has such a wonderful location near and around many office buildings that house large companies. And a forest preserve nearby. Today, the same hot dog and fries combo I ate back in the day is still a great value for struggling sound mixers and speaker-based Motorola employees and of course, all the other working class. The snappy Vienna Beef Dog with the only condiments, consisting of yellow mustard, green relish, onions, and sport peppers, then smothered and covered in fries, "Depression style", is currently priced at $4.69! You need to visit this icon if you're ever in the Northwest Chicago area suburbs. You won't regret it.

Johnnie's is an icon, just based on the experience of listening to that guy talk. Ah, but he's long gone, and new ownership abounds. But the beef is still great. One of the best beef sandwiches around, combos that are seasoned just right, and Italian ice That hits the spot on a hot summer day. I think the hot dogs are just a throw in, and the fries are decent. But it's the beef that keeps bringing you back. Not much ambiance, unless you want to stand and watch the cars roll by on North Avenue, but the smell of the sausage cooking is intoxicating. The price of the beef has gone up, and I swear it's a tad smaller, but if you're in the neighborhood, nothing hits the spot quite like a Johnnie's beef sandwich. I can still hear the big guy...."Whaddah need, gimmie a beef, wet, sweet and hot, That'l be nine fiffy two, bag it, next!" I miss him...

When I was here I got the #8 Greek chicken which was nicely seasoned broiled chicken, garlic bread, and rice. It came piping hot and fresh and served with a drink. I loved it! Their fries and onion rings were delicious, too. Pop's totally reminds me of a true Chicagoan spot for some grub - you'll see locals coming in and out while talking with the staff (because they're regulars) about the Bears, work, or construction nearby on I-90 (very Chicagoan). I loved the lowkey and charming feel here. Their pricing is affordable with most combos (including fries and a drink) being under $11. It's better to eat individually or with 1 person if you want to dine-in since they don't have tables inside, just a built-in tabletop against the walls so you're facing the window/wall when you eat. Maybe because it already receives so much positive attention, it hardly needs my two cents. But after this latest visit, I decided to "pile on" with my love for this place. First, I must alert you to pay attention to their hours, because they are closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I kicked myself at least once, when I made the 40 minutes drive from home, just to find that I forgot that they were closed that day. This store is a double threat - offering a great take home Italian deli with a plethora of fresh and frozen items for you to prepare at home. This is also a great spot for lunch, with legendary sub sandwiches, and an array of hot dishes to choose from. I often do both. On this visit, from the deli, I picked up some of their marvelous, thinly sliced breaded eggplant, which I always get when I'm there. I bring some to my ex-wife and daughter who love it as well. Just give it a quick cook in the oven, and it's delicious. I also got some of their marvelous breaded potato salad, which is old-fashioned homemade style. From the hot bar, I got a couple of Italian sausage and some meatballs. I buy these ready to eat, but take them home to use for dinners later. That way I don't have to cook them. Obviously, they offer both meatballs and Italian sausage in fresh or frozen as well, which I get when I'm preparing my mom's spaghetti recipe. This time, I decided to try a quart of their frozen Nottoli homemade marinara, which I hadn't tried before. So delicious! I had pasta and spaghetti with sausage that night, and pasta and meatballs the next. On my various trips here, besides the Italian sausage that they are famous for, as well as the meatballs, I like their olives and other salad items, the sandwiches, brocciole, and many other hot Italian dishes for lunch. The rigatoni w/vodka sauce is a killer. Finally, the people have always been wonderful , which is very important to me. Despite being busy, it is well organized and you're in and out of there in no time (or you can sit at the table inside if you want to eat in). The prices are extremely reasonable, and I'm always pleased about the value I get for such a good price. I apologize for no pictures on this review.
