Went in on Tues eve and ordered polish and fries and a hotdog and fries.. food tasted old and fries sucked... not even hot...... wasn't busy at all!! Place looks run down and old... spent almost $20 on just that crappy food... Would rather go to dukes on central... They have better fries for one and you get what u pay for... won't be back to this dump!!! Needs a renovation and new owner... or just close this place... This is a small space in an older building with no tables. One guy was there by himself serving up orders as quick and efficient as some places with an entire staff. I ordered the Snappy Dog. Fries were piled on top. Ugh, I hate that. I realize it's an old Chicago tradition but it's not my thing. I have to admit it does give the fries some extra flavor in this case. It was on a fresh poppy seed bun with sport peppers, cheese sauce, onions, and their secret sauce (which tasted a lot like barbecue sauce). It was tasty with a bit of zip but very messy. Stopped in because whenever I hit a new area with my side gig, I Google "hot dog places near me" and this was the closest. I asked if there was a two hot dog special and he told me I can get 2 dogs with one fry for $10. I agreed and order a root beer with it. They also have Green River in the bottle and Green River shakes. I will have to go back for one. The hot dog came out quickly, wrapped in paper and the bun was steamed perfectly, maybe a little over steamed but I'm not mad about it. It wasn't a snap dog but it had all the Chicago style staples on it, including a poppyseed bun and celery salt. Great flavor and the peppers were on point as well as the onions. The fries were okay. This place reminded me of an old school hot joint I use to go to as a kid. This is a comfort dog that had me at the first bite. This is old school joint with all the charm. There is a small stand up counter surrounding the front window that you can eat at, 3 or 4 people max! Even though this place isn't a cash only spot, bring some. Snappy Dogs charges extra for card usage. Looking forward to going back and trying the Snappy Stix and Green River shake. I simply love places like this! read more

More stars because they're open late. Worker seems to be the Owner. He answered the phone when I called so I'm happy about that. Place is next door to a bar. His nails could be cleaner but thankfully he's not wearing a pear of disposable gloves doing everything like so many other places. Menu outside the door and inside the store. I've been coming here for years solely for their snappy stix so my review can't attest to the rest of their menu items. This place is your typical hole-in-the- wall joint. The place is very small in size. Their snappy stix is one of their most popular menu items. They are basically fried mozzarella sticks that you can pair with marinara sauce or ranch. From previous years, they were alot fatter and messier. This time around they appeared more slender and neat. Just my observation haha. Now, these are good in moderation. A serving comes with 3 sticks but honestly I'm good after the 2nd one. I get nauseas by the 3rd one cause it's alot of cheese and grease. Overrated. Yell it louder for the folks in the back. For the amount of people who rave about their snappy stix, these were some of the most depressing mozzarella sticks I've ever consumed. I've heard they are pretty massive but upon eating them, they were regular sized and nothing impressive. $5.50 for 3 of them on the menu. However, I was charged $9.50 for them. Late night cheese or drunkie tax possibly? They were cold when I ate them and the cheese inside wasn't even melted. So much for their "well known" mozz sticks they advertise. Cash only. OK, this is a little hotdog joint in Edison Park. Looks like it's been there for 100 years but it's only been 14. They serve Vienna hotdogs which you can't go wrong there. This is take out only although they have one chair. So when you can get a Vienna hotdog and fries for $5 n change it's a winner . read more

My wife wasn't a fan of the polish. All the dogs had stale buns. And the fries were old and lacking salt. Overall disappointing mains. The snappy stix and corn dog were good, but didn't do much to make up for the sad dog/fries combos. I hate to be negative about a small, small business - but unless you're falling out of the pub next door this has to be a disappointment. read more

Snappy Dogs is a place that can easily be missed. My son so happened to spy this place as we were zipping by Downtown Edison Park. We got some takeout for his birthday as he insisted on trying their hotdogs. We ended up getting the Big Chicago, the Bossy CHIX aka chicken sandwich and Snappy STIX, aka mozzarella sticks. The hot dog came with fries and they were all wrapped up in the same wax paper. My Bossy CHIX chicken sandwich were wrapped up with the fries as well. For me, I like the fast food vibe and the fries were slightly soggy, which I actually like. If you're not a fan of that, you may want to ask to have it wrapped up separately. I noticed that upon arriving, they have a dry erase board that touted chicken tenders. Too bad, as I would have loved to try them, as they were not on the online menu. Inside the place, it's somewhat tiny, with standing room only dining, and a soda fountain behind the counter. The person who worked there was super nice and offered a free drink and a coloring book to my son, upon hearing it was his birthday. Really cool. The food was good and I enjoyed the mozzarella sticks too. When we first unwrapped them, my son thought they were egg rolls. The Snappy STIX has gooey and delicious. So nice that they are open and had an Irish band playing across the street in the Emerald Isle parking lot to enjoy them listening to Irish music being played. Felt like tailgating. Poor customer service. I went in because I thought it was local and I'd try it out. The guy at the front didn't speak to me at all. He made the wrong milkshake and when I proceeded to let him know, he kept correcting me and then snatched the drink out of my hand and literally threw it in the garbage. I also got a corndog; something I haven't had in a long time. There was only one guy in there that took my order and this other guys larger order, rang us up (cash preferred but not mandatory), and cooked everything. He was super nice. Food was not fresh on a Thursday around 12:15. I was their only customer at the time, and the kitchen looked like it hadn't been used yet that day. So I was surprised to get my order filled in about five minutes because I assumed that he had to make it from scratch. When the bag came out so fast, I knew that it was bound to be disappointing. The hot dog was cold, bland, and sad, sad, sad. The snappy stix were at least warm, but not hot. The fries were also barely warm. (It's only a 7-minute drive home for me.) I warmed it all up in the oven to make it more edible, but I shouldn't have had to. Three stars rather than two, because the Snappy Stix were quite good despite the extra attention they needed. However, I can get a much better hot dog closer to home. read more

I love when I find these little whole in the wall type places. We found the snappy dog on a quick overnight visit to Chi-town. If you go to to Chicago, you gotta try three things: their deep-dish pizza, their popcorn and their hot dogs. My children hadn't experienced a genuine hot dog so we decided to hunt one down at 11:00 at night lol. Enter:Snappy Dogs. Gotta say everything was delicious. We got Chicago dogs and fries (an amazing deal at $4/each) some mozzarella sticks (can't remember what it was called on the menu though)-those we're good too. Nice and fresh and literally the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and gooey cheese on the inside. Parking was a little challenging, so be aware. And the service was really quick. I think we waited maybe 10-15 minutes. I'll definitely be back the next time we're in Chicagoland area. I wanna try their chili cheese dogs. read more

From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall joint so you expect good things. When you enter it's very underwhelming. The guy who served me clearly did not want to be there. The place was a dump. I did decide to give it a chance. Got the snappy dog and the Irish sandwich for my mom and a Polish and a regular hot dog for me. Wanted the Italian beef but he was out. My mom enjoyed her food. I on the other hand didn't. The Polish didn't have that snap like Polish's I've had from other places. His pictures show what looks like grilled hot dogs and polish. They didn't have a grill so I don't know if he stole photos from other places to make his food look better. The star of the meal to me was the Green River shake. Totally awesome. Definitely not going back. Clean the place up a bit and you'll have a regular customer. read more

This place is decent given no other hot dogs in the area. The fries are always undercooked and they must not believe in using salt at all. The Chicago hotdogs is a piece of art and it always has been. Slapping everything in bun is not the way to go. Rosa J., a.k.a., "the Italian Beef Sandwich Junkie," re-surfaced this afternoon. She went on and explored a little bit of Edison Park with "Chicago" on her mind... (singing in progress) Yeah, I'm leaving...on the CTA to...the Snappy Dog! I was somewhat disappointed that this place had no seating area. If you wanted to dine in, you would have to stand using the table along the window. Well, I was already here. Luckily, the Edison Park Metra station was near within one (1) block west to the Snappy Dog. I took my Snappy Stix, Italian Beef sandwich with hot peppers, and fries (all for $10.25) to the station. The order was processed so fast; within five (5) minutes, I was handed a brown bag with all of my goodies. The Snappy Stix, "Mozzarella sticks with a serious identity crisis," disguised themselves as Chinese egg rolls. They were huge! One (1) order would come with three (3) of these sticks, and they could potentially fill you up if you weren't hungry at all. Now onto the entree, the Italian Beef sandwich hot peppers were made with "home-style taste." The beef wasn't the most tender that I've ever consumed, but they reminded me of how Mom fixed her beef. I felt nostalgic after the first bite. Anyways, it was worth of travel on foot, fighting with the annoying intermittent rain. At the end of my meal, the rain cooperatively stopped.
