Sure, Jimmy's, Nana's, and the venerable Gene and Jude's are both outstanding as well, and they are basically interchangeable for a great dog, so go to the one that you like/are closest to. Here are the things that take RRH to the top of my list: 1. Convenient drive through service. You don't need to exit your vehicle to eat there. 2. They will char your dog on the flat top grill they use for the it grilled onions for the Maxwell St. polish. 3. 4 mini supreme tamales instead of one large tamale. Same amount by weight, a lot easier to eat while on the road! 4. And the thing that really sells it for me-the hand cut fries are cooked in BEEF TALLOW! The next two are either positives or negatives, depending on your POV. I've never used these options, but: 5. They accept credit cards, albeit for a 3% surcharge 6. Ketchup is available BY REQUEST ONLY! I have a feeling you will get shamed if you have the palate of an eight year old and ask for it on you dog, and there are squirt bottles available if you eat on sit and wish to dip your fries, although they are so good plain, "red mustard" as one social media presenter calls ketchup, is not needed. read more

A chocolate cone as a treat, and sometimes a shake. They are always super nice and fast! The food is fresh and made to order. There's lots of seating inside and outside. And, it's always sparkling clean! CharDog-This hotdog is absolutely perfect! I savor every last bite of it. It's a Vienna Beef hotdog. So, it's the real deal. It's not the traditional Chicago dog. So, don't expect that. This hotdog is juicy, smokey, and charred with a bold beef flavor. Loaded with mustard, sports peppers, relish, and onions. On a nice plush bun. The epitome of a Chicago hot dog joint. It's got the old school feels and a simple yet tasty menu. There is inside seating, but it's best experienced on a warm summers night out on the patio. Tuesday nights are when I try to go because they have a little classic car meetup. French fries and muscle cars are an epic pairing. We decided to try them for lunch; I've passed by it for years but never lived as close as I do now. It's an old-style lookin' place, like something you'd have seen in the 50s or 60s with a car hop popping over to take your order. Now it's got a drive through. The menu is small but I just came to get us some hot dogs and fries. They were pretty good, though I think the fries would have been better if I'd eaten them immediately. They don't take offense if you don't order your dog the Chicago way, which is good because although I'll eat a Chicago style dog it's not my preferred set of toppings. A 50's style diner located in Des Plaines that has the greatest frank I've had ever. While there is Gene and Jude's nearby, this place in my opinion tops them when it comes to making the best franks. It's that classic vienna frank with the skin still on it allowing for a snappy bite. Along with that, Rand Red Hots sticks to its atmosphere when dining inside as they only take cash and do not allow free refills. Worth noting there is an ATM inside if you don't have the cash and the fact that the drive thru does take Card but at a small fee if I remember correctly. While the franks are the main attraction here, I can't help but talk about the french fries because they are easily the best fries in Des Plaines. They are all fresh cut and taste homemade, never oversalted in my experience. Needless to say, I'm in love with this place and will continue to eat here as long as I live nearby. read more

I grew up going to bob-o's, sitting in front in the 90s with our teenaged crew all sharing baskets of fries and soggies. It's the same family that owns Rand red hots and let me say they have been solid all these years. Rand red hots always has delicious food AND they don't price gauge like so many other places do. I know I can now take my kids and get a great meal with lots of food and it's cheaper than going to McDonald's. The char dog is my favorite and they give you like 20 lbs of fries with your dog. Coming to Rand Red Hots made me really think...is it easier to get a depression dog than a dog dragged through the garden? Not including how many Portillo's there are. (For those who don't know, a depression dog has mustard, relish, onions, sport peppers and fries on it, while a traditional Chicago dog trades the fries for tomato, pickle, and celery salt) Depression dogs is what the beloved Gene and Jude's serve, but I really liked RRH as well. The menu expands to include Polish sausages and char dogs, and they have a nice outdoor seating area and a drive through. Important to note is that it's cash only, but luckily I had some on hand for our family's late lunch. I got a Polish since I think it's hard to find one in the burbs, and I was happy with what I got. Good snap, a nice size to it, and comes with fries just like the dogs do. Fries were nice and fresh. This is like the Gene and Jude's of Desplaines. The hot dogs had a real snap to it like a real Vienna hot dog should and the fries while were a bit greasy but they were freshly cut. They are known for having excellent fresh cut fries that are always hot and fresh. The place is simple and inexpensive (relatively). Anywhere you can get a good dog and fries for sub $5 is amazing these days. The dog (single or double) is a depression style with only relish onion and mustard (optional hot sport peppers) - a la the famous Gene and Jude's. Good snap, crispy delicious fries. Can't go wrong! But tbh compared to G&J I prefer this place much more. They have a counter with salt, celery salt and regular salt for the fries. None of which are at G&J. G&J is a no ketchup zone too, and I get it - but for fries it should be fair game. Again for sub 5, and sub $9 if you get a medium drink, it's filling and delicious. What more can you ask for? I drove past this place about a month ago and they were having a really cool muscle/classic car show. So I've been looking forward to trying them. The day has come that I get my hot dog fix. Boy did I ever!! A really good snap dog with mustard, onions and relish. I'm an onion snob and after eating I really needed some mints. I'm love the little crispy crunchy runts of french fries. Make sure you ask for sports peppers and celery salt. The large root beer is large enough to swim in. As I happily munched away, I found myself grooving to 50's & 60's classic rock that was playing. This place is cash only, an ATM is provided for you.
