I felt at home here immediately after talking to the Greek guy behind the counter, I believe he was the owner. Nice guy, and I didn't mind the wait for fresh chicken at all thanks to the wonderful aromas. It also gave me time to peruse the menu in more detail too. Gyros, burgers, Chicago dogs, ribs, baklava and more. Yum. The building isn't the newest but everything is clean and tidy. I went with the fried chicken dinner with broasted potatoes. Three giant potato logs with a delicious smoky grilled flavor. A tasty biscuit. A tiny little cup of coleslaw that was better than expected, though there was only about three bites worth. The chicken was good, with that same smoky grill flavor as the taters, but they were also awfully skimpy pieces of chicken. These were skinny chickens. They were on a diet. The wing practically had more breading than meat. So, they get 4.5 stars for service, 5 for atmosphere, 3.5 for the chicken's flavor, 2 for the size of the pieces, and 5 for the taters. What's that come to? I don't know. Let's just round up to a 4 and hope that future visits to explore the menu warrant that high of a score. SECOND VISIT: I ordered a gyro and it was absolutely delicious. The meat is perfect, the tzatziki sauce is perfect. Five stars all the way. The fries were meh: 2.5 stars. This puts them in solid 4 star territory. Also, I've realized that there must be a problem getting decent chicken in the area. Even KFC's chicken is sad looking. THIRD VISIT: The Greek chicken is good but not great. It could use more seasoning. The rice is fantastic, I love the seasoning on it. FOR TWO SALADS? I understand inflation to an extent.. anyway ordered one salad even the drive thru worker agreed it's a little crazy and I told her I don't blame her for the prices but that's a little absurd. I'm oddly craving a burger and want to check it out because I've driven past it a few times. I don't want to use their drive-through; instead, I'd rather dine in and enjoy my food while it's still freshly prepared. I ordered my meal at the counter, and after you pay, the staff will give you a number card to place on the table because they will deliver it to you when your meal is ready. There is plenty of seating, including tables, booths, and a small bar. The surrounding area is clean and well-kept. When my food arrived, I was excited, but my mood shifted after I took a bite of it. The burger's presentation is sloppy; they used too much mustard and relish because it has an acidic aftertaste. One of my pet peeves is that the cheese barely melts on the burger. The fries is lukewarm and lightly salted. The milkshake is horrible, it's like drinking milk with smashed Oreos in it because it's liquidy; no thickness to it. My boyfriend and I moved into the area not too long ago & decided to give this place a try! From the outside this place looks a bit old but the food makes up for it! The lobby wasn't packed whatsoever but if you're in the area please stop by to check it out as it looks like the might be suffering a little due to Covid. The burgers are good from here. They have a good flavor like they just came off the grill. The 1/4 lb is similar to Burger King. The 1/2 lb burger is where it is. They have grilled chicken, which is always a big hit here also. It's a casual good meal is reasonably priced. If you eat there. Everything in this business is nothing short of amazing! The food is always delicious, the service is always spit on, and the people that work here are ALWAYS so very friendly and personable. I popped in here after a long absence, with a help of recent reminder, when this place was featured on a local TV show. Place seems identical to my last visit a few years back, aside from the COVID precautions. Food: I had the gyros platter, which was a bit on the smaller portion size compared to most other places I have visited and relative to the price charged. Menu: Your typical gyro type place with all the expected burgers, kabobs, etc; except this place is also known for its broasted chicken. They had some out under the heat lamp and to be honest, I took a pass. Overall: Worth a visit if you driving by, plenty of parking, drive thru and decent food. Just like it's chicago location, the grilled/smokey flavor is in all of its food. I haven't had anything i didn't like. The burgers, hot dogs, even down to the chicken and pizza puffs. Very much your typical hole in the wall but worth stopping by. Great for a quick bite, also great for lunch or dinner. I'm a fan of their BLT (sounds simple, which it is, but, can be made MEH). I had an appointment in Des Plaines and was surprised to find a Charcoal Delight in Des Plaines on Oakton. I decided to check it out. I was surprised by the huge selection on the menu. I decided to go for the broasted chicken @ $5.99 for 4 pieces of chicken (very reasonable prices). I ordered the chicken & it was ready instantly (usually not a good sign as the chicken had been sitting for some time). As suspected the chicken was very dry and tasteless (I guess you get what you pay for?). The people working there were very helpful, but unfortunately what I ordered wasn't very good. read more

There was nothing tricky about my order. Charcoal Delights seemed to get it just about perfectly wrong. The order was Italian sausage with hot giardiniera and marinara on the side. Well-done fries and a lemon lime soft drink easy ice. The sausage was boiled and shriveled and more like a brat than an Italian sausage. It had nice giardiniera on it - but it was drenched in marinara. The fries - all seven of them - were not even fully cooked - let alone we-ll done. The soft drink was a shot or two of soda poured over a mountain of ice. There is an old saying about always getting screwed at the drive through. Charcoal Delights delivers on that promise. The restaurant is so clean and the ambiance is just so nice and it feels really comfortable inside something like a homey-vibe. The fast food restaurant itself is clean. The menu is so broad and there are a variety of diverse options. The prices are also reasonable and cheaper compared to the other fast food restaurants. The prices really caught my attention, and then I was encouraged to order something. At that time, I was really looking for a spot to eat, and it was lunch, so I found myself in this restaurant. The people inside are all nice and friendly. I was kind of surprised that the portions were somehow generous, even if the prices were a bit cheap. As for the taste, it was good, but it does not have anything that stands out for me. I mean, yes, it was good, but it did not have anything special. I think it is still nice since it has a good portion as well as a good price, and the place is also quite nice too, even the service. I have only visited Charcoal Delights twice. Both times I ordered the Charcoal Broiled Chicken on Pita. Seriously, the charcoal cooking brings the flavor to maximum overdrive! Obviously this is an old school way of cooking and rare to find. The wait time is quick and the food runners bring everything to you. Strange to see I haven't already reviewed this location since the one in Chicago had always been a dear place to me. Charcoal delights had always been a favorite char house for me until they put in place major changes in their food offerings back in 2010. Blame the economy, if it wasn't for these changes all of you that say in exasperation, "what the heck are people loving so much here?!" there was a time when one could say mostly everything. First there was a change with the breasts used in their chicken delight chicken sandwich and then it was the fries! The fries used to be plump alike what Wendy's used to offer (years before their change in 2010) but far better. Due to the economy they changed their fries and went with something thinner and smaller in quantity. Free fries with a hot dog or sandwich sounds good on paper but the quantity of it, blows. Most repeats like some of the following: Italian beef with or w/out cheese. (If you don't know how to order it, "Dip" is necessary with hot giardinera) Gyros (Not a fan personally) Pizza puff (previously a fan) Any char burger the bigger the better. Chicken Delight (Previously a fan) Char chicken sandwich (get it with BBQ sauce, its almost caramelized) Fish sandwich (Fan) Broasted Chicken (this is a must for chicken lovers, but get it fresh. Not the shite sitting under a heat lamp all damn afternoon) I used to be a five star fan of this business for many years but the changes were too great for me. This location is never as busy as the one in North Park. Nicer seating area. Cozy, comfortable atmosphere. More family like. A flat screen television in view for most to catch up on news while dining. Some green plants and well lit. It's also got a drive-thru but once you've made the decision to drive through it, there's no backing out of it. read more
