Parking wasn't the greatest but we took note of the outdoor patio that gave us ideas for future outdoor eating with Puppy! Definitely had an older diner-like vibe. The young kid at the counter rushed us thru our order - not a smile on his face at all - sad. But he provided perfunctory service. We ordered the Maxwell Polish, a 4 piece broasted chicken dinner with broasted potato's - a biscuit (dry but soft) and the tiniest little thing of Cole slaw I ever did see. The chicken? Excellent! The broasted potato's weren't hot but they weren't cold -the coleslaw was -well - adequate- and the Maxwell hit the spot but could have been a tad hotter (same with the chicken too) - the rice pudding definitely hit the spot- Ambience? The restaurant seating area wasn't exactly the cleanest - but the restroom was spotless (always a good sign) - hmm. So would we come back? For the chicken? Yes! The cheese fries aren't cheese fries. They're cold fries that come with a small side of fries that isn't enough to cover the small order. You'll get both cold. The cheese and the fries. Not with the price up charge at all. Tried to complain to the restaurant the lady didn't care at all. She said "we never do that" but the description online and on Uber Eats says that the fries come smothered in cheese. The burger was just okay. I ordered a broasted chicken breast. There was nothing 'delightful' about it. I suspect it was leftover from the previous day and that it was refried or flash heated. I felt at home here immediately after talking to the Greek guy behind the counter, I believe he was the owner. Nice guy, and I didn't mind the wait for fresh chicken at all thanks to the wonderful aromas. It also gave me time to peruse the menu in more detail too. Gyros, burgers, Chicago dogs, ribs, baklava and more. Yum. The building isn't the newest but everything is clean and tidy. I went with the fried chicken dinner with broasted potatoes. Three giant potato logs with a delicious smoky grilled flavor. A tasty biscuit. A tiny little cup of coleslaw that was better than expected, though there was only about three bites worth. The chicken was good, with that same smoky grill flavor as the taters, but they were also awfully skimpy pieces of chicken. These were skinny chickens. They were on a diet. The wing practically had more breading than meat. So, they get 4.5 stars for service, 5 for atmosphere, 3.5 for the chicken's flavor, 2 for the size of the pieces, and 5 for the taters. What's that come to? I don't know. Let's just round up to a 4 and hope that future visits to explore the menu warrant that high of a score. SECOND VISIT: I ordered a gyro and it was absolutely delicious. The meat is perfect, the tzatziki sauce is perfect. Five stars all the way. The fries were meh: 2.5 stars. This puts them in solid 4 star territory. Also, I've realized that there must be a problem getting decent chicken in the area. Even KFC's chicken is sad looking. THIRD VISIT: The Greek chicken is good but not great. It could use more seasoning. The rice is fantastic, I love the seasoning on it. I'm oddly craving a burger and want to check it out because I've driven past it a few times. I don't want to use their drive-through; instead, I'd rather dine in and enjoy my food while it's still freshly prepared. I ordered my meal at the counter, and after you pay, the staff will give you a number card to place on the table because they will deliver it to you when your meal is ready. There is plenty of seating, including tables, booths, and a small bar. The surrounding area is clean and well-kept. When my food arrived, I was excited, but my mood shifted after I took a bite of it. The burger's presentation is sloppy; they used too much mustard and relish because it has an acidic aftertaste. One of my pet peeves is that the cheese barely melts on the burger. The fries is lukewarm and lightly salted. The milkshake is horrible, it's like drinking milk with smashed Oreos in it because it's liquidy; no thickness to it. I order a 4 pct broasted. The breast must've come from a pigeon it was so small. I asked for a small Greek salad I received a regular one. I ordered a beef and sausage combo hot peppers on the side. The peppers were on the sandwich the beef was horrible no taste and grizzly. It makes me sad because they use to have great food. Especially broasted chicken. FOR TWO SALADS? Service was hard to understand, from ordering to receiving food with very foreign workers. But the worst was amount of food and taste. Cheese stake sandwich had cheese on the outside of the bun and only 2 pieces of meat. Enough food for a small child but paid $18 for the sandwich. Worst tasting cheese stake sandwich by far. The lobby wasn't packed whatsoever but if you're in the area please stop by to check it out as it looks like the might be suffering a little due to Covid. We ordered a cheeseburger, a gyro, & a red velvet cheesecake to go! I ordered my cheeseburger well done & it was huge and very flavorful! The gyro itself was very filling as the portion was huge!! The burgers are good from here. They have a good flavor like they just came off the grill. The 1/4 lb is similar to Burger King. The 1/2 lb burger is where it is. They have grilled chicken, which is always a big hit here also. It's a casual good meal is reasonably priced. If you eat there. Everything in this business is nothing short of amazing! The food is always delicious, the service is always spit on, and the people that work here are ALWAYS so very friendly and personable. The owner Gus will treat you like family every time you go there and he's there. Second in charge (lol) Arturo, treats you the same. Place seems identical to my last visit a few years back, aside from the COVID precautions. Food: I had the gyros platter, which was a bit on the smaller portion size compared to most other places I have visited and relative to the price charged. Menu: Your typical gyro type place with all the expected burgers, kabobs, etc; except this place is also known for its broasted chicken. They had some out under the heat lamp and to be honest, I took a pass. Overall: Worth a visit if you driving by, plenty of parking, drive thru and decent food. I went through the drive thru today and ordered 2 hot dogs. We did not want fries. They charged $14 for 2 hot dogs. It is ridiculous that you can not find a way to charge for something without fries. Just like it's chicago location, the grilled/smokey flavor is in all of its food. I haven't had anything i didn't like. The burgers, hot dogs, even down to the chicken and pizza puffs. Very much your typical hole in the wall but worth stopping by. Great for a quick bite, also great for lunch or dinner. I'm a fan of their BLT (sounds simple, which it is, but, can be made MEH). Even got fries with my sandwich order, which was a surprise because I thought you had to upgrade to a plate. Nonetheless the deciding factor is the food, which was just OK. I had an appointment in Des Plaines and was surprised to find a Charcoal Delight in Des Plaines on Oakton. I decided to check it out. I was surprised by the huge selection on the menu. I decided to go for the broasted chicken @ $5.99 for 4 pieces of chicken (very reasonable prices). I ordered the chicken & it was ready instantly (usually not a good sign as the chicken had been sitting for some time). There was nothing tricky about my order. Charcoal Delights seemed to get it just about perfectly wrong. The order was Italian sausage with hot giardiniera and marinara on the side. Well-done fries and a lemon lime soft drink easy ice. The sausage was boiled and shriveled and more like a brat than an Italian sausage. It had nice giardiniera on it - but it was drenched in marinara. The fries - all seven of them - were not even fully cooked - let alone we-ll done. The soft drink was a shot or two of soda poured over a mountain of ice. There is an old saying about always getting screwed at the drive through. Charcoal Delights delivers on that promise. The restaurant is so clean and the ambiance is just so nice and it feels really comfortable inside something like a homey-vibe. They have a wide options on their menu with different foods, however we are not in a mood to eat something heavy which is why we only ordered a burger. Service is fast which we really appreciate. I have only visited Charcoal Delights twice. Both times I ordered the Charcoal Broiled Chicken on Pita. Seriously, the charcoal cooking brings the flavor to maximum overdrive! Obviously this is an old school way of cooking and rare to find. The wait time is quick and the food runners bring everything to you.
