Receipt - crossed out cashier name don't want them to get into trouble - A paper receipt from Charcoal Delights Inc. in Des Plaines, Illinois, displays ordered food items including salad, Greek salad, chicken, chicken breast, and extra breasts, with prices and quantities. The receipt includes business details such as address, phone number, and the date and time of purchase, printed on standard thermal paper and placed on a quilted surface.

I'm not one to normally post reviews so bare with me.. I Came through the drive through wanted to order 2 Greek Salads with Chicken and extra dressing for both total came to $41.. and some change.. FOR TWO SALADS? I understand inflation to an extent.. anyway ordered one salad even the drive thru worker agreed it's a little crazy and I told her I don't blame her for the prices but that's a little absurd. Ended up paying 16.49 (but added extra chicken) so total for one salad with the extra chicken was $21.45.. still a little crazy to me for a salad that comes without fries or a drink has a piece of pita.. and i understand I can make it at home for cheaper but gosh I remember coming here 2 years ago and even in High school and paying A LOT less.

Chicken - The image shows a takeout food container with fried chicken pieces, a biscuit, and a small cup of sauce. The fried chicken has a crispy, golden-brown coating. The biscuit appears soft and flaky. The small cup contains a light-colored sauce, possibly gravy or dipping sauce. The food is arranged in a white foam container, suggesting casual dining or takeout service.

I felt at home here immediately after talking to the Greek guy behind the counter, I believe he was the owner. Nice guy, and I didn't mind the wait for fresh chicken at all thanks to the wonderful aromas. It also gave me time to peruse the menu in more detail too. Gyros, burgers, Chicago dogs, ribs, baklava and more. Yum. The building isn't the newest but everything is clean and tidy. I went with the fried chicken dinner with broasted potatoes. Three giant potato logs with a delicious smoky grilled flavor. A tasty biscuit. A tiny little cup of coleslaw that was better than expected, though there was only about three bites worth. The chicken was good, with that same smoky grill flavor as the taters, but they were also awfully skimpy pieces of chicken. These were skinny chickens. They were on a diet. The wing practically had more breading than meat. So, they get 4.5 stars for service, 5 for atmosphere, 3.5 for the chicken's flavor, 2 for the size of the pieces, and 5 for the taters. What's that come to? I don't know. Let's just round up to a 4 and hope that future visits to explore the menu warrant that high of a score. SECOND VISIT: I ordered a gyro and it was absolutely delicious. The meat is perfect, the tzatziki sauce is perfect. Five stars all the way. The fries were meh: 2.5 stars. This puts them in solid 4 star territory. Also, I've realized that there must be a problem getting decent chicken in the area. Even KFC's chicken is sad looking. THIRD VISIT: The Greek chicken is good but not great. It could use more seasoning. The rice is fantastic, I love the seasoning on it. They remain a solid four star place and I'll continue exploring the menu.

Terrible Cheese-Steak Delight Special Cheese only on the outside of bun and 2 tiny pieces of meat. $20 with tax - A person is seated at a black table, with a foam tray holding a cheesesteak sandwich filled with beef, vegetables, and sauce, and a side of crinkle-cut fries. The person's hands are visible, one reaching toward the sandwich. The background includes a blue seat and a brown paper bag. The setting appears to be a casual dining or takeout environment.

Service was hard to understand, from ordering to receiving food with very foreign workers. But the worst was amount of food and taste. Cheese stake sandwich had cheese on the outside of the bun and only 2 pieces of meat. Enough food for a small child but paid $18 for the sandwich. Worst tasting cheese stake sandwich by far. Disgusting Also had kebabs on sticks and weren't too bad. But the portions were also ridiculously small. Great place to over pay for mediocre to bad food

a hand holding a cheeseburger - A cheeseburger features a toasted bun with lettuce, chopped onions, melted cheese, and a beef patty. The burger is held in a person's hand, with a blue and white checkered paper in the background, suggesting a casual dining or takeout setting.

I'm oddly craving a burger and want to check it out because I've driven past it a few times. I don't want to use their drive-through; instead, I'd rather dine in and enjoy my food while it's still freshly prepared. I ordered my meal at the counter, and after you pay, the staff will give you a number card to place on the table because they will deliver it to you when your meal is ready. There is plenty of seating, including tables, booths, and a small bar. The surrounding area is clean and well-kept. When my food arrived, I was excited, but my mood shifted after I took a bite of it. The burger's presentation is sloppy; they used too much mustard and relish because it has an acidic aftertaste. One of my pet peeves is that the cheese barely melts on the burger. The fries is lukewarm and lightly salted. The milkshake is horrible, it's like drinking milk with smashed Oreos in it because it's liquidy; no thickness to it. When I was about to depart, an elderly woman cleaning the floor wished me a wonderful weekend, which helped to soften the pain. Thank you for the meal.

Gyros Plate With Fries Sandwich - A food tray contains sliced beef, a piece of grilled pita bread, and sliced onions with herbs. A small foam cup with a lid holds a beverage, and in the background, there are crinkle-cut fries and a snack bag. The meal appears to be served in a casual dining setting, with the food arranged on a foam tray.

My boyfriend and I moved into the area not too long ago & decided to give this place a try! From the outside this place looks a bit old but the food makes up for it! The lobby wasn't packed whatsoever but if you're in the area please stop by to check it out as it looks like the might be suffering a little due to Covid. We ordered a cheeseburger, a gyro, & a red velvet cheesecake to go! I ordered my cheeseburger well done & it was huge and very flavorful! The gyro itself was very filling as the portion was huge!! For the price itself you definitely get more than what you pay for! The red velvet cheesecake was the perfect sweetness & very fluffy! Can't wait to come back and try more stuff!

1/4 cheese burger with a small fry - A partially eaten cheeseburger with a beef patty, pickles, and bun is placed on a paper-lined tray, accompanied by a serving of crinkle-cut fries in a paper bag. The tray is on a table at Charcoal Delights, a casual dining spot known for American and Greek-inspired dishes.

The burgers are good from here. They have a good flavor like they just came off the grill. The 1/4 lb is similar to Burger King. The 1/2 lb burger is where it is. They have grilled chicken, which is always a big hit here also. It's a casual good meal is reasonably priced. If you eat there. You order and pay at the counter and then someone brings the food to you and cleans up the table afterwards.

Garbage portion of fries. Rude service. Unseasoned burgers, very expensive. Do not come here, there are many better options around.

The bun was the first signal they knew what they were doing--lightly toasted, just enough structure to hold everything together without stealing attention. Then came the patty: thick, juicy, with that perfect sear that gives you a bit of crisp before it melts into richness. But the real centerpiece? The fried egg. Perfectly cooked--edges slightly crisp, yolk still runny. The moment you bite in, it breaks and seeps into the meat, turning each bite into something borderline indulgent. It doesn't overpower the burger; it elevates it, adding a creamy texture that balances the salt and char of the beef. The toppings were minimal but intentional--fresh lettuce for crunch, a slice of tomato for brightness, and just enough sauce to tie it all together without making a mess. It's the kind of burger that makes you slow down halfway through, not because you're full, but because you realize it deserves your full attention. Messy in the best way, rich without being overwhelming, and anchored by that fried egg that takes it from good to unforgettable.

For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

It's like going to a burger place with a bar inside. I would also have to add with a side of a malt shop thrown in. The lady who took our order was very friendly. Both her and the guy making the shakes seemed competent and efficient. They were both just over worked. There was a rush when we came in so it put them behind. Everything was in good repair. There was no damage to the seats and tables and for the most part they were clean. The things that didn't work for me were the possible understaffing, and the lack of a good onion. I asked for raw onion on my burger. I inspected my burger for it and couldn't find it. So I asked for some more. She was very helpful and handed me a tiny container of minced onions. Apparently that's all they have. I do like a good slice of onion on my burger. If you're looking for a good quick bite to eat or a very tasty shake, this is a great choice! I would come back if the mood struck.
