Amazing! Must try, had the chicken sandwich and loaded fries - both super tasty. Friendly staff, wonderful experience!

It's a small business, and they make orders on the spot instead of making burgers ahead and leaving them in a warming tray, so that's ok to some extent but not a place where I would be able to go very often. The fries weren't good. They weren't at all crispy; they seemed like fries that had been sitting around for a bit. They were that kind of wrinkly that fries get after a few minutes, if you know what I mean, and limp. Disappointing and nearly inedible; I only ate maybe half. They were amongst the worst fries I've ever had, but maybe this is the one bit of their menu they don't make to order and if I'd had them fresh it would be good. Because they make their food to order, it takes a bit for your food to be ready. I think it took about 10 minutes, and if there had been anyone behind me I think they have a couple of spaces in the front of the restaurant to wait.

Saw the cool Star Trek font lettering and had to stop in…read more I was greeted when I walked in. They have an ordering kiosk but the guy behind the counter said he would take my order. I told him, I'm cool with ordering from the kiosk. I ordered a Bumper dog, Bumper burger and the Boosted Bumper Fries that has their fresh cut fries, Bumper sauce, cheese sauce, caramelized onion and diced jalapeño. I received my food and everything came in their branded boxes. They have the most comfy chairs. I started with the Bumper Burger which is a thin smash patty that came with Bumper Sauce (it reminds me of Big Mac sauce), lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It was the on a soft bun. All the flavors were okay, kind of on the small side. The Bumper Dog was a Chicago style hot dog. All the toppings were on the bottom with a split grilled dog. I ended up flipping the pickle on dog to eat it. To me the split dog was kind of lost. The Boosted Bumper Fries were a big hit. They made sure that you got all off the topping until you got to the bottom of the box. I found myself shoveling them in my mouth. It's messy and definitely a 20 napkin meal. Also they have the coolest bathroom.

The burgers are on point, the fries are fresh-cut and legit, and the whole place just has that welcoming energy. The staff? Top-tier--friendly, attentive, and genuinely making sure you enjoy your experience. Definitely a spot I'll be pulling up to again.

If you're looking for a no frills burger joint and just want a good ole burger with fresh cut…read morefries, Sandlot is the place for you. Don't expect fancy dining and instagrammable views. Just expect good food, fast. Their menu is simple: burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, pop, and milkshakes. The burgers come in either a single, double, or triple stack, with cheese. I got the cheeseburger and hubby got the two on two (double stack) and we were satisfied with the burgers. It was simple, juicy, grilled and good. The whole family loved the fries. Service was pretty fast, we got ours in less than 10 minutes. Dining tables are available inside to eat, and also a few tables outside in the parking lot if you prefer the outdoors. If you are familiar with the movie The Sandlot, they have their pictures all over the walls. Not sure if they are directly affiliated with the movie, but it definitely brings back that nostalgia. Overall, great burger joint and I would come back again!

For those who don't know, Small Cheval is the fast casual version of Au Cheval which I've had the opportunity to try in NYC. There's plenty of locations throughout Chicago so definitely make it a stop when you're in town. Now is it as good as Au Cheval? Definitely not but at one-third of the price point, it's hard to complain. The beef patties are well-seasoned with crispy edges and just the right amount of fattiness. My main complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough dijonnaise sauce or pickles, making this pretty dry. The bun was nicely buttered and toasted but almost took away from the contents inside the burger. The Famous Fried Chicken Tenders were also a good try. I could tell the chicken was clean & high quality but there was some flavor I couldn't quite place which made it a bit off-putting; thankfully it wasn't super noticeable especially with the sauces. The Golden Fries were delicious and paired well with the burger & tenders! Even the Cookies & Cream Milkshake was solid! Classic milkshake with a good balance of creaminess, sweetness, and texture from the cookie bits. The interior was also bright, spacious, and comfortable! All in all, really solid try!

It's like going to a burger place with a bar inside. I would also have to add with a side of a malt shop thrown in. The lady who took our order was very friendly. Both her and the guy making the shakes seemed competent and efficient. They were both just over worked. There was a rush when we came in so it put them behind. Everything was in good repair. There was no damage to the seats and tables and for the most part they were clean. The things that didn't work for me were the possible understaffing, and the lack of a good onion. I asked for raw onion on my burger. I inspected my burger for it and couldn't find it. So I asked for some more. She was very helpful and handed me a tiny container of minced onions. Apparently that's all they have. I do like a good slice of onion on my burger. If you're looking for a good quick bite to eat or a very tasty shake, this is a great choice! I would come back if the mood struck.
