Beacon Tap is a great sports bar with a chill vibe and I really liked it. I've needed an excuse to come here after having it on my list for years and the stars aligned for Game 4 of the ongoing White Sox - Cleveland Guardians ALDS. As I refuse to pay extra for sports channel subscriptions over my basic Comcast cable TV package, I didn't have TBS for this particular game or series, and decided to come here hopeful of watching a festive home field series clinching celebration on this night. It was a festive and fun and tense night, and I had a blast until things fell apart in the 6th inning. Beacon Tap has a great reputation as a good and long standing local sports bar and it lived up to it. In fact, I learned that on Bears football Sundays, you need to reserve a spot here as it's so packed, you can't just walk in and watch a game. I sat at the bar and ended up having a couple of delectable Maplewood Son of Juice IPA drafts (at a reasonable $7.25 apiece) and had a blast with fellow fans, two of whom were regulars here. Tim was the fine and attentive bartender and he kept the beers flowing and it was a packed bar and dining room as expected. I left after the 6th inning when the game was decided and the Sox eventually lost 9-5. It would have been so cool to celebrate a major sports win in a sports bar along with the comaraderie, something I've never experienced, but alas, it will probably have to be in another life, ugh. Come to think of it, I have been at a winning major championship game, the Bears' 1985 NFC championship game when they beat the Rams 24-0 at Soldier Field, but being at a rowdy sports bar is indeed another thing. They have a quite nice beer list, and the usual pub food offerings. I learned that their popular 1/2 price pizza night is Tuesdays. They have a big parking lot to handle their big weekend crowds. I'm a big fan of this place, and will look to return again some day for a good time. read more

We went to Beacon Tap on a Saturday evening with friends to watch the Bears and Cubs game. It is a good setting to watch sports because TVs are spread throughout the place and you can see from virtually everywhere. The menu is a variety of sandwiches, apps, salads and pizza. The drink menu is also extensive. I had the Special Sandwich- turkey, gouda and a peach chutney. The portion was huge. Others had steak tacos, salad, and chili All were good . I went in again for their pizza special on Tuesdays, which is half-price pizza. Service at the bar was great. The pizza is very delicious. Slightly overdue as I was back a couple weeks ago hangout with coworkers (love these Summer hours)! So nice to sit out on the patio under an umbrella- very relaxed and didn't feel bad about mostly drinking. The service was good - she gave us our space when she realized we were mostly hanging out but was easily accessible for another round. I must say that this place has the greatest fried pickles ever and makes spears, which is the way I grew up eating them. 5 stars for Beacon Tap. This is a great neighborhood bar with a massive patio with an outdoor bar, TV's, seating and cornhole games available to play (weather pending). Inside has plenty of tables, a bunch of slot machines, another bar, and sometimes bingo/trivia nights. There are daily specials at Beacon something different every day, the pizza and wings are great. During Lent, they have a special seafood menu which is awesome. The beer prices are very reasonable as well. I'd recommend a visit if you're looking for a good neighborhood sports bar. read more

We just visited the Beacon Tap the other night. They have a nice sized parking lot so we were able to find parking right away despite it being packed. As soon as we exited our car, we could here the music. It was so loud. It was reminiscent of Kuma's Corner (Schaumburg) where they play the music super loud inside and outside. We sat inside and across from each other and couldn't hear each other speak. It was a bit much. While they can accommodate large groups, you wouldn't be able to hear anyone, so I wouldn't recommend going their for just that reason alone. Our server came by and took our drink orders, we both got Diet Coke - and they were flat. However, we gave our food order at the same time and didn't see her again for nearly a half hour. So, we drank the Diet Cokes as she didn't bring water. My spouse ordered the trash can nachos and I ordered the Beacon Burger. I asked for no tomato, onions, spicy mayo or the garlic butter on the bun. I received the burger (double patty) with cheese sitting on top of shredded lettuce and pickle slices on a plate. It came with the curly fries and side of ranch, but where was the bun and the spicy Sriracha fried onion strings? I asked the food runner for a bun as I didn't want the garlic butter on the bun, but still wanted the bun and the onion straws. He apologized and said he'd get them. What? You're not taking it pack to put on the bun? Our server finally made her second appearance and replenished our flat Diet Cokes. I asked about the whereabouts of the onion straws and the bun. She looked at me as if not understanding. I said I still wanted the bun, but I just didn't want the garlic butter on it. Lightbulb appears and she'll go get it with the spicy onion straws. Okay, why aren't they taking the burger back to make it look presentable? So they deliver the bun and onion straws and I put my burger together. The onion straws are not spicy at all. There isn't any Sriracha on them whatsoever. They look like they were taken out of a can of French's Fried Onions. The bun was toasted. After all was said and done, the burger was just okay. It should say on the menu that it's two 4oz smash burger patties. Unfortunately, they were kind of flavorless. So was the Merkt's Cheddar. I could taste the pickles and onion straws. The curly fries were good. The trash can nachos came in a metal beach bucket and was full to the top. It's a ton of chips. When delivered to the table, the food runner gently lifted the pail and the chips flow out the bottom of the bucket. It was a cool look. And the chips kept coming out. The cheese is really just on top and don't flow throughout. And they definitely needed more cheese. it also had pico de gallo on it and some extra on the side with some guac. At about 7:30pm, the inside all but emptied out and the outside kept having more and more people enter. It felt like the patio was neverending. And despite there being virtually no one inside, the music was kept loud. They are pretty inexpensive compared to other places like them, as my burger was just $12 and was cheaper than the nachos. Though, our server was never very present and took forever to come to our table. She brought our drinks once, we waited another half hour for her to return with refills and then only refilled my wife's drink. I asked for a refill and she walked away. We had to flag her down to get a refill. Then she was gone until we got our food and I explained the issues and she said she'd take care of it and the food runner then brought me the bun. She appeared again about 20 minutes later with our bill and disappeared again. I think the service could have been way better and if the music wasn't so loud, maybe our server would have heard what I wanted for my burger. The Beacon Tap does itself a disservice by keeping the music at concert level pitch. I worked in Des Plaines for nearly eight years and watched the remodel of the Tap and never had a chance to visit. Their cheesy garlic beef was decent; however, the bread roll lost its firmness after being exposed to beef juice, even though it was toasty. The beef is soft and well-cut, and the portion is generous, but the flavor is lacking. Additionally, I wish more mozzarella had been added. The sandwich could be dipped in the au jus that was served alongside. It doesn't taste or smell strongly of beef. The hot peppers wasn't spicy at all and the tasted dull. My favorite item was their bread pudding for dessert, which had a great, fluffy, warm texture. The surface is nicely crusted, slightly firm, and topped with soft ice cream and drippy caramel. It's a really substantial portion. I'm glad I can enjoy it alone with no company. read more

Cool little place in Des Plaines a bit south of downtown. It sure doesn't look like much from the outside but it's bigger than it looks inside. Beacon Tap has a lot on tap of course. Lots of local beers to choose from. The food has a range from greasy fried stuff to Mexican options such as tacos. A pretty quiet place during the day. It wasn't busy at all when we went so we got seated at the bar and got some of the specials to drink and eat. There's always some going on. It had Goose Island varieties for $5 a pint. The food menu is pretty meaty, but there's the Taco Plate to get some grains and vegetables. It's about $13 for a choice of 3 tacos along with beans and rice. There's the choice of beef, chicken, or vegetables. Basic looking tacos but filling. They came out of the kitchen pretty slow, and these aren't the freshest, but better than expected for a divey looking place in my opinion. Has drinks, food, and also entertainment. Food is good. Presentation of the food is even greater! Try the nachos and watch how it is presented to you! The taste was ok. I saw online that this place had a great cracker crust that was worth a half an hour drive. We called and ordered 10 min before the kitchen closed -- the guy who took my order is everything great about Chicago. With a "I got you, what do you want?", I knew I was in good hands. Fast forward, we pick up the pizza. It smelled so good we dug into it right in the parking lot. This is old school Chicago good pizza - Salty with a little sweet. Perfect cheese. Excellent sausage. She was having a miserable day, and took out on the patrons. We were in your establishment for a grand total of 10 minutes. We weren't the only ones to have in issue with her either. The table next to us ordered drinks, and left as well because of her attitude. It's a shame that it's come down to this because of your rude server.
