Triple smash burger, fries
Alyssa G.

I had been outside of Whiskey Hill for an outdoor workout and with OrangeTheory and wanted to try their trivia night with my usual trivia team. We tried their smash burger special ($5 for a single, $10 for a double, or $14 for a triple) and fountain drinks. Our waitress was so sweet and kept the fountain drinks flowing as we tried our best to keep up with trivia. The trivia host was wonderful! She was easy to understand, explained everything well, and kept us entertained. The burger was good for the value. The fries were a little salty for my palette so I cut that with the sweetness of ketchup. I definitely would go back for their trivia night again!

First time trying Whiskey Hill Brewery. To begin with, the service at the bar was excellent. Very attentive. 5/5. The brewery beer I wasn't too impressed by, but they did have other beers which I tried and enjoyed 3/5. The food overall was pretty good. The smash burger being probably the best thing I tried. I'd nix the lettuce and probably wouldn't get the waffle fries next time. But the burger itself hit the spot. The Thai buffalo shrimp were also good. Extra points for having a unique menu with some items I'll definitely be back to try. 4/5 The space is a bit odd looking when you first enter, but the bar area is comfortable with plenty of TVs. Whiskey Hill isn't perfect but they are doing plenty of things right. 4 stars from me. Give em a try!

Stuffed shells

We stopped in randomly on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised with our visit! Good spirit and beer menu, something for just about everyone. Solid menu, I really enjoyed the stuffed shells. The ricotta and honey was a nice refreshening bite on the patio, paired great with the drinks. What a gem

Baked Meatballs

Came here for some drinks and apps. Both of these items were yummy! Meatballs could've gave some more bread but it was good. Service was okay and place is filled with all ages.

We were looking forward to a brewery in the neighborhood, but Whiskey Hill has missed the opportunity to offer a great experience. First, service was very good, our server was new and was unable to answer some of our questions about their beers, but tried. It is really hard to describe the atmosphere, we walked in and we were unsure if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. There was a curtain that I think the host was standing behind, but we could not see him and he certainly did not greet customers. We sat at a high table near the bar and the ledge of the floor was not totally attached and coming off, odd since they have only been open for a short time. The food choices are a variety of their food and food from Salerno. My son had stuffed shells and they looked as if they were frozen and reheated. They had a variety of beers, none are brewed on site. They have potential to be very good with some tweaking .

So I came back the next day and had the Salernos Special Salad. Loaded with antipasto! Salad dressing was delicious! Huge Salad!

Maybe because they're new, don't know, but we were disappointed with the food. And there seemed to be some confusion with the bill.

Do they have any tables that are not the high top bar type tables?

I think I see some in the photos. Also, when you reserve with Open Table you can choose standard or high top.

It took a while to give the server our food and drink order and were were never told about their Daily Specials or offered any water. We ordered the potatoe skins as an appetizer and I wanted to try their chicken wings since they were on the menu as a Wednesday Special for .99 each Unfortunately our appetizer came out almost at the same time as our entrees. The skins were huge but overcooked. The wings were good in size but I should have gotten the sauce on the side as they were super soggy. It came with ranch dressing which I didn't care for at all. Our server never followed up with us after he brought us our meal as I would have asked for blue cheese dressing instead. If you are going to meet up with friends or watch a game,Draft Picks is an ok Sports Bar but certainly lacking in food quality.

My husband and I ordered the boneless chicken wings and steak tacos because those were the specials on the menu that night. The boneless chicken wings had a really bad flavor to them. The garlic parmesan wings had too strong of a vinegar taste. The barbecue boneless chicken wings were much too peppery and not enough barbecue flavor. I bit right into a big piece of gristle or cartilage in the steak tacos. The cheese, lettuce and tomato added no flavor to the tacos. The last item we tried was the French fries because I thought that they would be safe. I was wrong. There was no flavor to the fries, not even salt. The trivia was fun and our server was nice but I will not be returning to Draft Picks!

Bird's Nest is known for chicken stuff but there's other things you can get. Has a great atmosphere for watching games or having parties. The prices are okay for quality. Better than it looks which actually isn't bad. It's one of those more hip looking wing restaurants that has lots more choices. There's plenty of room inside for big groups. A lot of great drink specials going on so look what they got before coming. It's $3 for Miller products on Tuesdays. As for the food there's more than chicken. It's about $10 for the Veggie Panini. A healthier alternative. This comes with avocado, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, red peppers, and Swiss. I left off the cheese. This comes with a choice of side. For sure it's a great place for casual lunch. It's located on Davis close to the railroad tracks. There's a few things even okay for vegetarians.

Even though that is gone this place remains and has a modern atmosphere. The drinks are better than the food truthfully. A pretty strange location in this suburb away from anything. It's across from the former Arlington Park racetrack which is gone and has nothing on the property. This used to be a hangout before and after events there. At least they have seemed to class it up a bit. The bad thing is higher prices. It's about $15 for a specialty cocktail. The best we had of these was the Cucumber Spritz. This is made with lemonade, soda, and Stoli Cucumber vodka. As for the food it's mostly meaty. It's about $12 for the Pretzel Twist. A big one and it usually comes with cheese. The rest of the menu is meaty. For sure it's great for watching a game. It's located on Northwest Highway. This is also across from the Metra station.

There were seven of us and we all converged from Buffalo Grove and Vernon Hills. Jimmy D's doesn't come up on your normal burger place lists in and around the area, but we saw a post somewhere and knew we had to check this place out, especially if it ended up being across from the future home of the Chicago Bears. We'd probably end up hanging out there and wanted to make sure it was a good enough place to hang and be a part of the action, whilst not paying for said action. Anyhoo, we all pulled up to find a nice parking lot next to/behind the restaurant. It's a cool place with a couple entrances (one in the lot and the other from the street). It's a nicely adorned building and has the requisite sports decor on the inside with plenty of televisions to watch many games at once. There was plenty of seating for our group as it was quite empty on a Monday night and there wasn't any game of note when we were there. We called ahead letting them know our numbers and they accommodated us with a reserved table. They were attentive and constantly refilled out waters and sodas and brought more beer when needed/requested. The service was friendly and attentive. We were there for the burgers of which there are four options: the House burger, the Fried Egg Burger, the Mac Daddy, and a Black Bean burger. However, stipulations for being in our club is that you can only order a red meat-based burger. We did order the buffalo sauced wings as an appetizer to share. They were sauced nicely, not too hot, and quite good. I would definitely recommend getting them if you visit. I also ordered the cream of chicken soup. It was a perfect option for the cold night and I rank it among one of the better cream of chicken soup options in the suburbs. While not a sommelier of cream of chicken soup, I do rank it quite well: I think it matches Jameson's Char House for quality, thickness, and flavor. Mama clearly knows what she's doing with her soup. I opted for the Mac Daddy burger. It's prepared with: black angus beef, boom boom sauce, house mac n' cheese, bacon, fried onions, sliced jalapeños, toasted brioche. I normally don't opt for the special/signature house sauces as I've been burned before by these so-called "recommended" house sauces (I'm looking at you, Lucky Burger, with your terrible "dijonnaise" sauce - ugh, don't get me started on THAT sauce). However, I was told it's a hot sauce for the burger and figured it wouldn't overpower everything else on the burger. The mac n' cheese was a tad creamy, but so what, the bacon, fried onions, jalapenos, and boom boom sauce cut into the creaminess a bit and it worked. And it didn't overpower the flavor of the burger, which I thought it would, but somehow didn't. I really liked this burger, the bun held up, the bacon stayed crispy, and jalapenos and sauce added a nice kick but not overwhelmingly so. I would get this again. The sandwiches come with housemade fries or tots, but I know that if tots are offered, you can (generally) never go wrong with tots (I'd point out Puck's Pub but they closed and did the world a favor in doing so). Everyone generally liked their burgers and would return again. In our 5 point scale, Jimmy D's District got a 4.25. They have a nice brunch menu and drinks to match and I want to try them out someday. Let me know if you're going and I'll meet ya there if available.

I had very good (not great) wings and a tasty grilled chicken sandwich. Not the best versions of either, but still very tasty and really hit the spot. If you're a beer drinker, they have a massive selection on tap (about 90 taps--and no, that's not a typo!). They also have a large patio that looks like a great spot when the weather is nice. Inside, there's a good mix of low-tops, high-tops, banquettes, and booths. All the tabletops feature copper tops with wood trim, and exposure to water and food over time has given each table a unique patina. We arrived right as they were switching over from the brunch menu to dinner, and the staff made us feel very welcome. What We Ordered: Smoked Brisket Reuben Eggrolls: We ordered these special eggrolls for the table. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and since many traditional eggrolls contain shrimp, he was excited to try these. He said they were the best eggrolls he's ever had (though he admitted he doesn't eat them often!). He paired it with a Guinness Zero non-alcoholic draught and was amazed by how close it tasted to the original. Fish Tacos ($19): Recommended by another reviewer, these come with three cornmeal-battered, fried Mahi-Mahi tacos topped with cilantro lime cream and fresh micro cilantro. They were crispy and very tasty. If you're usually sensitive to cilantro, you might still enjoy these--I mostly tasted a bright, lemony freshness rather than heavy cilantro. Sides (Broccoli Rabe & Asparagus): I substituted chips for a vegetable side. Due to a mix-up in the kitchen, I got to try the broccoli rabe first, though it turned out way too spicy for anyone at our table. My actual order was asparagus--my absolute favorite--but it was a bit disappointing, as the bottom half of each stalk was woody and fibrous. Fish & Chips ($21.50): My friend went with this traditional entry. At that price point, he was expecting three fillets, but he couldn't finish the two that were served and took some home. Overall, a solid entrée. Classic Breakfast ($15.50): My husband got this from the brunch menu. He was very pleased with the scrambled eggs, potatoes, thick-sliced bacon, and sausage links. Overall, a solid visit with great variety on the menu!
