It was one of those places were in you have so many choices for beers and you can pour them yourself. Mike's Hot Honey is where it's at! I can't say enough good things about it. I love the subtle heat balanced with the sweetness if the honey paired drizzled over the chicken nuggets. I loved the Detroit style pizza because of the crunchy bits of the edge pieces. While the edges were really crisp, the dough was moist and had a nice chew. The crust really stood out the most while the toppings were secondary. We ordered almost one of each kind of pizza but enjoyed the US Pizza Cup Winner the most. The bacon jam was unique as well as the dollop of Ricotta on top. I liked the creamy texture of the ricotta on top. The other pizza that stood out was the New York Style white Pie. Simple, tasty and thinly crusted. It had a nice light garlicy taste with shredded basil on top of the mozzarella. We were celebrating my birthday and had a large party of 17. We stuck around for the Trivia Night which was a fun activity for the adults. I really liked the atmosphere-- a slew of different flavors of hard ciders, beer, wine to drink, talk with friends, and engage in a collaborative activity. I would definitely want to come back. The staff was friendly. I got to spin the wheel for my birthday and won a free beer. The server gave me a sample of the pickled pear hard cider before committing to a whole glass. Updated review: The last time I was at District Brew Yards I ordered a pizza from their new food vender. You have to order from a kiosk and you are not able to customize or modify anything. When you finished ordering you are hit with a 15% service fee. THERE WAS NO SERVICE PROVIDED!!!!! I ordered on the kiosk. I picked up the food from the counter. I feel that this fee is unjustified! This hurts the workers there because after being gauged with a service fee, you are asked to leave a tip. I have a feeling that the tips will be lower because of the outrageous service fee! The quality of the food has always been top notch. It is unfortunate that others serve the same quality food for a lower price. I also wish that District Brew Yards would add more comfortable seating. The benches that they have are uncomfortable after a long period of time. It makes me feel like I'm in middle school. Okay, so first off, I absolutely love the concept of the bar & it is an amazing large place to be for a get together. The beer selection & technology is 5*. Probably closer to a 3.5 star However, the things that bring it down to a 3* are why I don't think it will do well in the suburbs, even Chicago are. 1) Beer prices equal out to $10 a pint for even the cheapest beer ($0.60/oz). Yeah it is really cool you can choose what you want but unless you just want to get 3oz every 20min with plan to be there for a couple of hours hanging with friends for a party, you're not going to enjoy the bill. I understand the concept of why it would be more expensive but maybe $9 a pint 2) You're also going to hate the bill when you realize you got a 15% service charge on food when you pick it up at the counter. No warning at all on the screen or above the kiosk. Glad I didn't tip. 3) Food prices were on the "Downtown Chicago" level for the portion sizes. Pizzas were expensive. Tasty yes, but steep. 4) they only have one TV in the whole building & was very pixelated. Was more of a projection TV than one massive nice HD tv. Overall the place is great & fun but the prices make it a little hard to be willing to go if it isn't for a party or a long event like a sporting game. I came here for the Packers-Bears game so it was a good place to stay for 3hrs but none of us left thrilled when we realized everything we spent got a 15% service charge until you are emailed your receipt. District Brew Yards has come to the 'burbs! When I lived in Chicago, I was so close to their West Loop location and my friends loved it so much, I was there once every couple weeks. The Wheeling location has the same really cool vibe, helpful staff, a lot of the same breweries on tap even - basically they kept a lot of the integrity of the brand in this new location and I love to see it. They also have a tiny section with a few NA options which is nice! They didn't use to have that 5 years ago at the Chi location! If you haven't ever been to District, it's super cool as you get a card and pay~as~you~go for beer! Yep, you can have a half glass or even just a sip for a quarter, LOL! Whatever amount and variety you want to try, they're ready for you. I was always a huge beer flight fan and loved trying everything. If you're like me, you are going to fall in love with this brewery vibe spot. Some beers will be hits for you, some will be misses. Such is life and our differences in palates. I love sours, but not everyone does! So if you really want to get a beer that your palette will enjoy, check Untappd for the beer rating and full details. Knowledge is power when it comes to picking what you consume. ;) aka....if you don't like the beer you pick when there are 100 options, that's on you homie. It was their first time at District Brew Yards and they really liked it! It's been a year since I've been to district brew yards but my original post raves about the Nashville smoked wings. I was dyyyyinnnggg to order them again and was looking forward to it. However by the time our event came, when I got to the kiosk to place my order the Nashville smoked wings weren't an option anymore I just wanna know why they were removed from the menu because these were amazing!! I substituted and got a hot honey flavor, which was still delicious but man it doesn't compare to those smoked wings District Brew Yards if you're seeing this, please please please reconsider adding the Nashville smoked wings back to the menu! I sadly have to update my review to only 3 stars due to the new food offerings and not so great beers we had. I always spoke DBY's praises as the best pour your own place, but it looks like they have made some changes pretty recently that would sway me from going back. Mostly getting rid of the vast food options (bye bye brisket fries, I'll miss you forever) to replace with a pretty run of the mill food option. New menu features pizza, wings, sandwiches (but..it's just one sandwich + a burger and then a wrap), and salads. Personally, it just doesn't feel like an elevated experience anymore with the new menu - and no shareables anymore which is a huge bummer. The breweries have remained the same, but there was one beer, that was just the absolute worst. It was a little flat tasting so it may have been a weird keg / the end of the keg - but still not an overall great experience. read more

What a cool spot to hangout with friends, enjoy some board games, eat some delicious food, while enjoying a large beer selection! I have driven by this spot many times before but without large signage near the road I hadn't realized that this spot was here until a group of friends had suggested that we meet here. When I arrived, I was quite surprised at how huge the parking lot was, and even more amazed at how spacious the inside is. Unlike standard bar food, the food here is quite nice with good quality meats, flavorful seasoning, nice presentation, and good textures. Items like the brisket fries and pulled pork nachos are large enough to share amongst several people with plenty of meat provided in each dish. The beer selection is quite expansive as well with lots of really cool themed stations where you can self-serve a variety of different options. This place is also mostly self serve for things like water and food (order from a kiosk, pick up at a window). The game selection here is quite expansive as well, though some of the games are in better shape than others (for example the uno cards are well worn) but exploding kittens looked almost new). This is very convenient if you want to gather to play board games without the hassle and mess of hosting at home. The only draw back is that the music can be quite loud so with a larger group of 6-8, it may be difficult to hear one another across the table. District brew yards is a lovely establishment that brews the beer for four different breweries. I love the ability to be able to sample a variety. If you'd like anything, they sell four packs of the various concoctions for the breweries as well. Being able to pour your own and pay by the ounce leads to a lot of exploring and even allows you to do some creative mixing. I love mixing sours with a calmer ale. The space is large with plenty of seating indoors, there is a nice patio space, and plenty of board games. The kitchen serves pizza. read more

Went here last weekend and had a lot of fun with our group. I ate prior because they have no food that is gluten friendly. My friends who did get the food (order on a kiosk) said it was ok. The tap room itself was pretty cool as you use the brewery card that is linked to your debit/credit. My friends thought it was nice to pay by ounce besides you can try a beer before you put your own. They do have a GF cider which was tasty and perfectly cold. Only complaint is the benches were uncomfortable for most of our group and the drinks were on the higher side for craft; we paid 40. I came here for the first time today. Mom + Dad and 3.5 month old. Impressed. It's big, plenty of seating and very kid friendly, don't be pushed away because it's kid friendly. There are all ages, a great spot for beer and food. The beer variety is great, you can try it as you go with a card and fill your own glass. Sample what you want and move along. Order the food from the kiosk and the food was great. We had the wings, burger and garlic rolls. Very good! I will say. There's an older gentleman working the front, PROMOTE HIM. He did the tour, showed everyone around, treated everyone with kindness interacted with our little guy, and genuinely cares. This type of pour your own and pay by the ounce format lends itself really well to sampling many really unique beers, allowing you to explore and cover a lot of ground quickly. My approach was an ounce pour of each, to share with my wife and get a feel for the bouquet and mouth feel of each without spending a fortune. This allows you to find your jam and either pour more or take some product home with you. Our jam this day ended up being the wild turkey barrel stout from Burnt City (One of the better barrel stouts I have had; and I am not usually a barrel beer fan, too sweet for this kid), which we ended up cutting with Around the Bend's Octoberfeista. I remember when this place used to be the Ram restaurant and brewery. We were sad to see it go. One year they had arguably one of the best pumpkin beers I've ever had. The space sat vacant for awhile, so glad to see that it has a new life. They did a great job with the interior and exterior. Inside is big, open and welcoming with snazzy accent lighting. The outside patio is large and features two large gas fireplaces and plenty of places to sit. They even have games to grab to get your game on with your group. My wife and I played connect four and I am here to tell you it was a shut out, I never stood a chance ;) They have order kiosks for food and you put your dirty beer and food ware in conveniently located empty bins that are clearly marked. This is a terrific place to come, hang, and catch up with your group. I can also see it lending itself well to group functions. Kudos to DBY upon learning that they now do the brewing for Twisted Hippo. Long story short, the wife and I stopped into Twisted Hippo's original location for the first time the afternoon before it burnt down. We were horrified to learn of the news the next morning. Two negatives in my opinion that I will call out: 1) The card precharge. Not a fan, never have been. They will charge your card $40 just to play, then they will charge your card for whatever you end up spending. So if you spend $40 while you are there, you are effectively out $80 in your account. The initial $40 charge rolls back to your account whenever your bank gets around to it. Not sure why this is. They do communicate it clearly on a board (see pic) when you check in. Why is this necessary? 2) They have some cool beer merch for sale but think concert merch prices, way too high. They do a good job of having a little something for everyone. So fun! It was my first time here, upon entering they gave a brief explanation of how things work and where everything is in the facility. They have a selection of games and also outdoor seating that has a fire pit. They have beer and wine as well as alternative drinks. They recently added Paulie Gees pizza which we enjoyed. Cool that this place has opened a suburban location. District Brew Yards has the original in the city and this is like the same thing except it's bigger with more selection. It's the same concept though. A few smaller breweries share a building and customers pour their own beers. There's also a full kitchen. A good way to sample a few breweries. It has a few small ones that don't have the resources to have their own building, so they have a place in here. The beers are poured by yourself. Customers get a card at the front. Use this card to activate the taps. Among the breweries is Burnt City. The Frost Dragon Cold IPA was one of their selections on tap. It's about $0.70 an ounce for most beers. Those not wanting beer can also go to the section that has wines on tap. Also food. There's a kitchen. Mostly meaty options but a few vegetarian items like hummus. The Sikil Pak is good for sharing. It's $9 for a lot. This is hummus with cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and radish. Good place to come and sample beers. It has quite a few. This is not a good place for food. Period. The concept for drinks is interesting. When you enter they ask you to purchase a card that you load with a specific amount of money and then you can go to a bunch of drink stations around the interior and try different drinks an ounce at a time. It's 95% beer options of many varieties and a couple wine, a seltzer/cider, and hard soda. There is a place to order food, but it's like ordering food from a high school cafeteria. And the food sucks. It is not good. Go somewhere else first and avoid the food here. They have some games in the back of the room to enjoy while eating at communal tables as if you were in a German Brauhaus. It's an interesting concept, but the food is not good. We stopped by on a quiet Sunday afternoon while we were out in the burbs and really enjoyed ourselves! Same concept as most self-serve bars- You link your card to a brewery card when you walk in, place it in a holder above the tap that has the brew you want, dispense as much or as little as you want, done! It also shows you how much money you're racking up on the card so don't let your friend use it. Also remember to grab it when you're done pouring so you don't pay for someone else's beer! I liked that they had different glass options. Great beer selection including Twisted Hippo and Burnt City, and a few wine, seltzer, cider, and NA options so you can drag your anti-beer friends along. The foooood- we wanted to try it all, but settled for the pulled pork fries and fried pickles. It may be a bit more expensive than a traditional brewery, but the upside is you can try a few ounces , instead of ordering 4 ounces or more. For food there are three food restaurant options. We tried the brisket fries from LIllie's Q, and they were very good! We also had the carne asada tacos from Chicano Taqueria, they were very good. What a cool place! I'd been to this location back when it was The Ram, but hadn't been back in a long time. I went with a group of my work colleagues after hours to celebrate a retirement. District Brew Yards was perfect for the occasion. We really enjoyed sitting on the patio with a couple fires going. Good food, good beer. You don't interact much with the staff, but the little interaction that I had was pleasant. There were groups of all ages and sizes, I even saw some folks playing a board game. We went after work with a group for drinks, so I can't comment about the food. Although they have Lillies Q so im sure its great. First off, it's a great space and an amazing concept. They have walls lined with spigots of different local brews because of the sheer volume they have some very unique offerings. It's all by the ounce so you can try a lot of different beers. The space is like a large open beer hall and the food is counter service. My biggest issue is it's a bit of a drive from our house and I want one closer. They have a large outdoor space that I'm sure will be hopping in the summer, not so much in December when we were there. It's a great place to hang out and discover new favorites. You have 3 different food vendors but they all share one large kitchen, so it feels like just one. Lillie's Q is barbecue, Chicano Taqueria is mexican food, and Salt & Scratch is fried chicken. The food options are small portions and quite pricey. What I really disliked were the lack of non-alcoholic options. If you're sampling lots of different beers, eventually you might want to slow down but still be sipping something. Your options are a free communal water spigot and cans of Coke and Diet Coke for $2.50 a can. You're definitely not going to be happy if you come here and you're not a drinker. Also, DBY is a completely cashless business. Beer is paid with your card that acts like a running tab and you close out upon leaving. Food can purchased with your credit card of choice. Cool concept, fun with a group of friends, but there are elements of this place that I just didn't like. read more

Well I will probably have to give District Yards another chance and I'm going to assume I went in too soon after their opening and they were not a well oiled machine yet. The concept is simple, no wait staff, you order your food from a kiosk, and for beer you get a card when you get in and you will be charged on your way out based on what you poured. What I liked: 1. Good beer choices 2. Big open space, perfect for groups 3. Nice patio The not so good: 1. Line was not purged with a new keg, so I ended up paying for foam. I had to grab a manager who tried to make it right by pouring me a different beer using his manager card. You would hope they would purge the lines before opening the taps to the public. That experience really made me question the whole concept of paying for beer you pour yourself and the price is based on a a flow meter reading. I mean we all have experience watching bar staff struggling with foam pouring a pint... 2. The beer was a bit too warm for my liking 3. The food was not impressive. Prices are a little steep, perhaps justified if they're using high quality ingredients and providing a unique product and experience to the area. HOWEVER there is 15% "hospitality" charged automatically added when you order on the kiosk (which you have to.) This seems unjustified considering no one is serving you. From ordering to picking up your drinks/silverware/napkins, etc., it's all on the customer so an automatic charge is crazy when employees aren't doing any table service. Yes, you can apparently talk to an employee to have the automatic charge taken off, but that's uncomfortable to do, especially when an employee isn't near the kiosk to help. My parents and I came out a few weekends ago to try it on a busy Saturday night. We did our research on the location, hoped we knew what to expect and was unfortunately underwhelmed. With our table saved and 2 charge cards ready (the only way you can try drinks is to load their own charge cards with a credit or debit account to put into the card reader to allow the draft system to work), my parents and I ventured around, looking for drinks to try. My parents were disappointed that most of the beers they wanted to try weren't there between what was on their website and what was actually there (not even in the take out coolers) but eventually found some they liked. Unfortunately, if you're not a beer drinker, there's not much else to drink. The 2 seltzers available were not to my favor, nor did I want the 2 wines available (just red and white), so the only other options I had were water or overpriced Coca-Cola cans (Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite), which can only be ordered at the food kiosk (no one told us this and it's not mentioned on the website). The 1 water spout near the food window was clearly meant for glass containers as the plastic cups stored near the spout (as opposed to glasses for all the beer) cracked when pressed up against the trigger to activate the water flow (I just used my hand on the trigger and aimed the plastic cup with the other). The 1 line for 2 food-ordering kiosks gets long quickly but was needlessly complicated and required a separate debit or credit card than the drink charge cards. One thing I don't get about the ordering system, while helpful about giving texts when your food is available to pick up at their window, it should be available to place orders from your phone as well for in hall ordering, if just for convenience. The Lillie Q's Tri-Tip sandwich was just as good as I remember from getting it at the Blackhawks game or at their actual restaurant in the city. We shared the Salt & Scratch fried chicken and smoked wings and thought they were average, as well as the mac & cheese. My mother had the Pastor and Chorizo tacos from Chicano Taqueria but thought they were bland. This would've been the highlight of the evening if it wasn't for the added $10 "service fee" that was separate from taxes that raised the price closer to $90 for the food alone... What really annoyed us more than anything, was our attempt to get "to go containers" from the 2 staff at the food window when we had leftovers. When my father first walked up to them and asked, he was met with absolute cluelessness on their part, at first telling him "we don't do that." Even after my father reminded them that you can order the food for take out on the website, they just handed him a little paper bag and nothing else as our "to-go container." It was only when my father then went up to the front desk and asked for a manager that someone came to our table with actual clamshell, disposable containers to put our food in. The manager seemed just as confused as we were by the interaction with the staff... This place has a lot going for it. It's an interesting model, it's very clean and we'll definitely get some of the food to go in the future but I doubt we'll step foot inside again in the future. Their selection of drinks is not as varied as you'd hope, you're kind of out of luck if you don't like beer, and it's very expensive for not being a full service restaurant. And while it's made for people to stay for a long time, and there is overhead music and board games to play, there's not a single television to watch any sports, which I would think would be a major factor to keep even those unenthusiastic with the brew hall's model to want to stay. Was brewery hopping with the hubby. Didn't know what to expect! The gentleman at the door gave us the rundown given that it was their grand opening. Basically, it's a serve yourself tap place (a la Tapville) with access to 4 breweries and a food kitchen. Go to the register and they give you a card to link to your credit card and you can pour various brews (and a couple wines!), charged by the ounce. Vibe reminds me of a similar area in Fulton Market, but in the suburbs. There is also an outdoor area deck albeit not much seating, but with some long "fire" pit areas. Trendy and on point. Can see myself hanging out here sometime in the future! Didn't capture many pretty pictures, but should give you an idea of what to expect! read more

We went for the pizza and wow!! Paulie Gee's Detroit style pizza is the best!!! We loooved the US Pizza Cup Winner!! It had such a fantastic mixture of things I wouldn't put even think to put together. We had a Sicilian with the toppings of our choice, and that was delicious also!! :) We will be back soon!! :) read more
