Macushla is one of those that's just focused on the beers and that's a great thing. Location isn't that big but still can fit tons of people in here. The beers are more than just IPAs and other stuff. Basically it's kind of hidden behind a shopping center. It's located next to Hackney's. They will deliver food over here because there's not a kitchen. Inside here there's lots of seating areas. They have the bar area, a few tables, and a patio. A lot of variety in the beers. It's about $7 a pint. Best one of these we had was the Chalk Eater. This is a classic IPA. So many more to choose. There's also lagers. For sure it's one of the best places around here to get beers. It's open daily which is excellent because you can always go. They're located on Lake east of Waukegan. read more

This place was a little hard to find. It wasn't until I read that it was in the hackney parking lot. I had a flight of 4. I would recommend 3 out of the 4. The Shandy, grapefruit ale, and jalapeño ipas. They have a cute outdoor area too. However, there were a lot of kids on the day of my visit which was annoying. read more

We were looking for an outdoor patio spot for our group when there was a chance of a rain! This patio is perfect! It's covered, so protects you from weather. They have events most nights, which makes it a super fun experience. The service was great and friendly and gave great recs for beer. I love that you can bring outside food or order from next door. Well, it was my first time there. We thought it wasn't that bad at all. The nice part is they serve 5 ounce 12 ounce and 16 ounce so if you just want to try before you buy, rather than a taste, I guess, they'll probably give you a taste, but I didn't ask. They have some low ABV, which I appreciate it because I don't want to have too much alcohol when it's too hot out. Definitely will be back to give them another try. 5 stars for BYOFOOD and bc you do not have to order from next door I brought my own food from another suburban patron. I ate with my kids and also saw kids much younger whom were daycare/preK age in the resto. I initially was unsure if i could even bring kids (under 21y.o.). I brought my H.S. Kids in tow while we ate and drank the HoneyBear x3 and the hubster had chaLk Eater + HeadRush. (Kinda floral in taste) Honey Bear is a Belgian Tripel it has a had a headiness but not like St.Bernadus (abt 12/ quadrupel) and just a slight bitter after taste. Nothing bad. Truly I had three on this October night that was chilly but endured the cold for the enjoyment of being out with family and not having to cook and clean at home! Cute brewery with a decent amount of craft beer selections. The place isn't super large; however I was easily able to find a table on a Saturday afternoon. Been to Hackneys a gazillion times. Didn't realize we would be next to it when finding a brewery (because I was just looking for nice reviews not at location.). Ended up at the lovely outdoor space with some dogs, great music and fantastic beer. Czech Pilsner was phenomenal. Had Hackneys for lunch at the table. What a great place. This is a really nice place to spend time whether your family. Yes, it is right - this is a family place even it's a brewery. They have a bike parking, a lot of space and patio outside. I saw there parents with infants. Great list of beers but not sure about the food. I guess, you can order from a place next door. Also they do accept Apple Pay. This is a great brewery. The tasting room is nicely designed, spare and modern. On nice days it opens up to the outdoor garden. Very cool. The beers are all quite tasty. Om my recent visit has and Oktoberfest and a DIPA. Bout really good. You can join their community and for what is a reasonable fee get two crowlers a month. It's a deal! No food here on site but they share a parking lot with Hackney's and you can get to go delivered. I'm not from the North Shore, so all y'all who were born eating at Hackney's I never have. On my recent visit to Macushla we ordered food and Hackney's delivered not in styrofoam contents but on real plates! That was awesome. And the patty melt was delicious. read more

Came here on a Saturday night with some friends, and it was a nice place. They do flights for pretty cheap, which is a nice way to try a few of their offerings before committing. There was a bit of a confusion with my order, I tried to order one of the beers on the board and he told me they were out of it (when I asked him to clarify, he did confirm), but then my friend who got a flight too had that beer on his board. Hmmmm. I'll chalk it up to miscommunication, but it was a bit of a bummer since that was the one I really wanted to try. Atmosphere inside is maybe a little sparse, but not bad. They've got long wooden tables and stools for most seating, so not the most comfortable but it was fine enough. I'd likely give them another try if I was back in the area. read more

Can you say hidden gem. No literally i feel this place is hidden behind walgreens, and the funeral home, i mean Hackneys. The place is small and seems like your at your buddies garage who brews beer, which is part of the charm. Places like Macushla makes me miss the days I used to brew my own batches of beer, and wished to open a place just like this. The beer are all pretty good, loved their Summertime IPA Engels, and Luminator. Besides the great beer, the people who work here are so nice. The patio is perfect for summer. The place is pretty small so in the winter months I'm sure it would be a little tight inside. Only a year old Macushla is going to do big things, I would not be surprised if they get a bigger location, and someday Macushla beer will be seen everywhere. Macushla is a great hidden brewery in the Glenview area along Lake and Waukegan. It is right by Hackneys and serve burgers and appetitzers as well. Had a flight of 5 oz beers for 12 dollars, which is a great deal to try a variety of beers. They brew all their beers from IPAs to Stouts. Was a big fan of Honey Bear, Say Uncle, Blackbird, and Monarch. Service was fast and prompt. Friendly bartender. It has a bar area and an outdoor patio for outdoor seating during the summer. Appetizers and meals are good as expected since they come straight from Hackneys. A lot of parking and really accessible for all people. Definitely a good place to hangout and catch up with friends in the North Shore area! read more

I'm a big fan! Only open since September they seemed to have come ready to bring it with a wide selection of tasty craft beer. I loved their New England IPA and sampled a few other things as well. Mike, the owner, works behind the bar and was a gracious host pouring samples while answering questions. Nice guy who deserves your support! And you'll love the beer! Only drawback is that it's not the easiest place to find. There are no signs outside the entrance (look for the empty kegs) and the shared parking lot can be confusing. Met my brothers here for a beer last night. Great atmosphere and nice crowd. Staff was on top of everything, service was great. Overall a good beer selection. Super Lou is definitely my favorite. It had a nice hop to it, with just the right amount of bitterness. Also tried Monarch, My Uncle and Honey Bee. Ordered the onion brick and a bleu cheeseburger. Great amount of cheese on the burger. Nice flavor on the rye bread as well. Would recommend this combo. Onion brick was ok, batter is average tasting only. read more

Dwarfed by the brightly lit Hackneys on Lake little Macushla is brewing up big flavor. They have a great selection of unique beers that show real care and craftsmanship. San sourcing farmhouse was my favorite followed closely by Smiling Mickey and rooZH. You can order treats from Hackneys if you are feeling peckish. read more

Not sure if it's a BYOF (Bring Your Own Food); or at the very least, you can order a burger or whatnot from Hackney's, but this is the spot to grab that feel-good craft beer no one ever heard of. This place is a really cute small brewery right next to Hackney's. I came here on a Saturday evening and it was quite busy. Later on in the night it did get pretty quiet and it closed by 12 am. Grab an onion appetizer at Hackney's and drink an excellent variety of craft beers here. They have unique flavors such as jalapeño, I haven't heard of those flavors before, and I love breweries. This place also has a lovely private patio by two restaurants. A good place to go and change the routine during the week with trivia, karaoke, and live music. read more

I know it says outdoor seating only, but I think it hasn't been updated as there are socially distanced tables available inside and the large doors are open provide great ventilation. We had beer and ordered food from Flacos Tacos next door (Flacos operates a ghost kitchen out of Hackney's). It was a great night out. New local micro brewery! Been coming for a year or so and each time the beer surprises me. This time I got the rose seltzer to pair with a Potbelly's sandwich outside (you can bring your own carry out food to enjoy with their beer). It's a little hard to find, it's located behind a banquet hall, and I think I parked in the wrong parking lot, but once I found it everything was fine. Has a cool open air design, seating both indoors and out. They have several different serving sizes-5 oz, 10 oz and 16 if I'm not mistaken, which I really like since you're allowed to try more beers easily. I did a 10 oz of the chalk eater, and 5 oz. of the hoppy wheez and louminator, I enjoyed them all. Sadly no beers were available to go, but oh well. All the staff working there seemed cool. I love trying new breweries, so I was excited to hear that there was a new brewery near my job. My friend and I came here after work one evening, and it was pretty quiet. It's not a big place, only a few indoor seats and a nice outdoor patio (that no one uses in the winter obviously). They have around 12 beers to choose from. Some are staples, some are seasonal. I had a flight, which was 4 beers for $10. I tried the Trickle Up, Clothesline, Sans Souci, and Nitro Coffee Mickey. I later tried the Pikey. The Trickle Up was my favorite. They have a nice variety of different types of beer, which is nice. Not all IPAs which is typical for breweries. Looking back, I probably should have just asked for samples (which are free) over getting the flight. They will let you try all of the beers for free...so I don't know why I paid to try some. Oh well. They have pizza slices, chex mix, and pretzels with cheese, as well as a small menu from Hackney's next door that you can order from (mostly burgers). They will bring your food to you which is also nice. My only complaint is that the service was slow (only one bartender and he was busy chatting up the regulars). We would have bought more had he come around more often. Also, the music got weird....we went from awesome classic rock to twangy bluegrass. read more

Cannot say enough about this place... Relaxed, welcoming, comfortable... And the staff is so incredibly friendly and down-to-earth. The beer is always fantastic - great variety, something to please most people. The front patio is the sweetest spot you can imagine - like a piece of heaven. This is a brand new brewery. It just opened two weeks ago. They have different varieties of beer from Irish ale to different IPAs. My favorite was coconut fluff crunch. All of their beer is made on premises and extremely fresh. It is located right next to Hackney's on Lake. I am excited that Glenview got another great brewery bar. read more
