I'm amazed this place doesn't have a higher rating. I suppose maybe not everyone is used to this style of pizza in Illinois. Holt's specializes in New Haven style coal-fired pizza. The results are phenomenal. Excellent crisp to the bottom of the pizza with a slight flop in the middle. The crust is definitely the best part for me. The char on the edges really adds an extra layer of flavor. I prefer just cheese, and it came out perfect. The service at the bar was great as well. Atmosphere was loud, which was ok by me. Very bad experience at Holts, which is a small town restaurant/bar in Park Ridge. While in town visiting grandkids, my daughter & son-in-law & grandkids were enjoying a walk in town, we decided to grab a bite to eat at this restaurant (Holts). Not busy and since we had 2 small kids, we asked to be sitted outside, but were told the 3 empty tables outside were reserved and only could be seated inside. So us 3 adults and 2 children (4 & 6 yrs old) were seated inside, which again was not busy. After being seated, we waited over 10 minutes without anyone stopping at our table to take our order. So, I walked to the to the bar to ask if we can get a server to take our order. The man behind bar (which ended up being a manager) seemed upset I bothered him with my request to get a server to stop at our table. Finally after another 4 min, the server stopped by and apoligized (not for delay in stopping at table, but for the manager's attitude & response towards me). Ordered food, which was decent but very overpriced in my honest opinon. But what ruined overall experience to cause me to write this review was while waiting for the kids dessert, the kids 'walked around our table towards a high top table next to us and were looking out the windows. This same manager walked over from the bar and told the kids to get back to their table. And then came over to our table to tell us my grandkids shouldn't be running around in the restaurant unattended. While I would agree with this statement under normal circumstances, a.) the kids were NOT running around in any shape or form, b.) the restaurant was NOT busy at all besides 3-4 people sitting at the bar and another 2 couples eating at tables besides us and c.) the kids were not screaming or acting out of order like I can see how kids may from time to time, instead, just looking out the window. After paying bill and asking the host to speak to the manager (after my daughter + son-in-law + 2 grandkids were waiting outside, the manager, who appeared to be on his phone or tablet & told the host I would have to wait as he was 'fixing something' (I think music). After waiting 5 minutes, I walked up to this man and told him I asked to speak to him about our experience. His response was: 'Yea, I know. But I am busy as you can see and you will have to wait'. With this, I left the Holts and will NEVER be back while in town , nor will my son or daughter-in-law, who live in Park Ridge. Horrible experiece with average + overpriced food. And lastly, as we left, those 3 outdoor tables were still empty!!! Again, Holts appears NOT a place to bring kids to or a place that treats paying customers well. read more

I had their steak sandwich and a side salad. I enjoyed the meal. My little granddaughter ordered pizza, and from the looks of it, she enjoyed it. My son had tofu something, and his wife had a huge salad. And I believe my grandson had chicken tenders. Holt's has both inside and outside dining. Believe it or not, the temperature in Chicago was about what winter is like in Naples, FL. So we dined inside. On a funny side note, my grandson was looking over the appetizers and spotted one priced at $26.00. He made a statement that the most expensive appetizer he had ever seen. An unlikely mealtime hero. I was with a couple friends in the area and we felt the call of hunger. We just so happened to come across this fine little joint in our endeavors, and it was the just the kind of place we were looking for. Even though it was early evening/ late afternoon, there was already some groups hanging out and enjoying the grub, so we knew we were in for something great. Our server was very friendly and welcoming (I can't remember his name, but he was amazing). It really felt like a place I would to actually hang at, and not just to get a bite. I order a root per usual, and I really really love that its served in a chilled mug. It those extra touches that really make it all worth it. I tried the curds as a starter, and they were certainly interesting to take it. The beer battered take on a classic was most certainly a unique approach. They were phenomenal though. The batter flavor made them a little more savory then the average curd. A risk worth taking, that's for sure! The marina and ranch pairings were also a hit. So many wonderful flavors. Now for the pie! This was my first time getting a taste of a "New Haven Style" pizza. I went with my usual boring but ever-faithful plain cheese. The cook of the homemade crust was well executed and had great taste. It wasn't crazy greasy either, and it filled me up pretty quickly. Absolute banger of a za'. Lively place in the heart of downtown Park Ridge! It was expensive for what it was, but the food was tasty. We had decent service and the place played loud music. They had cute decorations for Christmas, lots of TVs to watch games, and different types of seating including booths. The hot honey pizza was amazing but relatively expensive- a large fed 4 people with other appetizers. The cheese curds were delicious. One of our favorite spots in Park Ridge. The best American pizza hands down. We had the Italian Beef pizza always with a side of ranch and it was delicious. Not greasy, crispy and truly the best. I complained, being a loyal patron since their 2015 opening and never receiving a discount or free drink, despite bringing hockey and baseball teams countless times. I have been banned from ordering alcohol since that night two years ago. Admittedly, I was borderline rude to the bartender, who was not to blame. I later tracked down the owner and genuinely apologized for my actions. Hadn't returned before last weekend. My daughter and I ordered appetizers and a drink. The owner brought out her drink, then told me "no alcohol for you" in front of her and other patrons. There are 30+ Park Ridge families that have sworn off this glorified Steak and Shake. Other than Bart behind the bar, no redeeming qualities and the entire menu is ridiculously over priced. I have held off reviewing until now, not a fan of on-line opinions, but the owner's actions crossed a line. The embarrassment he caused myself and my family will never be forgotten. I think the experienced people of yesterday year, meaning pre-Covid, have all moved on. I had to come check it out. pizza was kinda okay nothing special at all sauce was kinda weak. I wouldn't call that New Haven style. I've been to CT and had pizza. Holts crust and dough falls very short compared to New Haven plus you need the right oven which they don't have. Peace in the city is more closer to CT pizza. Holt's service was really nonexistent. It took forever for a thin crust cheese pizza to come out!(40min) They have bunch of high school kids running around the restaurant running it. We came here for dinner to celebrate my father-in-laws birthday over the weekend. There was ample parking available when we arrived but I imagine it can get very busy here during peak times. The inside was spacious and since we had a reservation, we were seated right away. The menu keeps it straightforward with apps, salads, and pizzas. I like that they offer a build your own option for the people that want to customize it. We ended up ordering the burrata basil and the hot honey pizza sans meat and our group enjoyed them. It was loud and difficult to hear one another at the table, significantly more difficult than at other restaurants. My elderly father couldn't hear us talking at all, despite wearing a hearing aid. We got pizza, beet salad, cheeseburgers, burrata and fried shrimp/calamari. Flavors were spot on. I wish I remembered the name of the cocktail I had, it was refreshing and tasty. I was a little bit on the fence because it was made with bourbon but the flavors worked with the blackberries. I would definitely order that again! My one suggestion would be to get more bar stools with a back. Nice to have that back support when you're sitting for a couple of hours. I had a the house burger (simple and just ok, great pretzel bun), I also had a large Italian beef pizza (New Haven style pizza) and the pizza is half off on Tuesdays for dine in only (the hack is to eat a few pieces and take the rest to go). They have a decent selection of beers and I enjoyed those as they had a couple beers from one of my favorite breweries in the city (hop butcher). You cant get a half pizza specality and half cheese, it was the middle of the day the pizza came out slow, and it was soggy, not to mention, for whatever reason one of the slice was a size a third of the pizza. This restaurant is definitely made for people to sit, relax, and enjoy dinner. We've been here several times Pre-COVID and a few days ago and our experience seems to be pretty consistent. They conveniently have outdoor dining and they have the huge windows that open up to the indoor making it nice and airy. Although their website states reservations for 10 or more, I think right now they are taking reservations for smaller parties too. Food is delicious. I loved their Sloppy Joe. They have some pretty unique dishes including a goat cheese and grape pizza, an elote pizza and so many more. Or you can make your own if you prefer the more classic toppings. They also have an extensive beer list and some pretty good cocktails, I myself am a fan of their "Stranger Things" inspired Eleven cocktail. They even have one called The Fauci! This place can definitely get busy so I recommend reservations ahead of time if possible. Also it's definitely not a quick in and out kind of meal, more of leisurely chill and hangout kind of place. Ambiance was busy, probably a bit louder than anticipated, and the tables for a pizza joint were smaller than we had considered. We asked to move to a larger table that was available and our request was ignored. This could have been at least a 4 star review as the pizza they serve was truly enjoyable, however for an overall experience with the service it was quite disappointing. Tried ordering the cheddar fries but it was not available, had the fried calamari which was situated on a bed of fries that were soggy and cold. Asked for another order, and had the goat cheese pizza with grapes which was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Server came to check on us once, and was then presented with our check before we were finished. Came back a few minutes later to see if our check was ready, which I felt was unprofessional as she didn't ask if we had needed anything else. I felt we were rushed out, making for a bit of an uncomfortable end to our meal. The steak sandwich was fine, the steak was tender, however lacked flavor again, definitely missing something. Maybe if there was a garlic aioli or some sort of flavor on the steak it would have been great. Our waitress was okay, nothing to complain about but nothing to compliment.
