My boyfriend and I were craving mariscos and decided to try La Marina and had a really good experience here. We started with a mango margarita -- I tried it on the rocks and blended -- and both were refreshing without being too sweet & had the right amount of liquor. My boyfriend ordered a michelada and enjoyed it a lot. We had plenty of shots throughout the night as we watched the game and chatted. For appetizers, I got the cold shrimp and octopus cocktail along with half a dozen oysters. The oysters were so fresh that we ended up ordering another half dozen. For our entrée, we shared the Chapuzón, which came with cooked shrimp, octopus, and oysters in a flavorful house sauce that paired really well with everything. The sauce is so addicting, we ordered some rice to enjoy it some more. We finished with a flan that wasn't the typical style you see everywhere, but it tasted really good and was a nice way to end the meal. Danny, the owner, was very welcoming and attentive the entire time. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. Overall, it's a spot I'd definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys mariscos. Ask him about his catering options for the holidays! I went to this restaurant twice on my trip. The first time I ordered the fish taco dinner plate and a margarita. The fish tacos seemed very plain and were nothing sort of special. A good fish taco would consist of lime and a sauce but all it was a plain tempura fish fillets and lettuce nothing else. The margarita was like any other you get. My second visit I ordered the habanero chicken wings and a horchata. The horchata was actually pretty good but the wings were alright. The sauce they were tossed in was flavorful but the wings itself were dry and tough. The service was good but honestly the restaurant was average overall. read more

What a twist to the typical Mexican restaurant. The flavors and style are very different than normal-- pleasant and entertaining to the taste buds. Drinks flowing well, ceviche with a twist, grilled octopus is the BIG attraction. Local guest made the experience awesome...we exchange rounds of shots while also enjoying tostados. Just meh at best. Very slow service for a place that wasn't busy. You'd think being in the United States the menus and waiters would be fluent in English but no. Almost impossible to read the menu and what the dish is. Honestly didn't feel very welcoming unless if your Mexican. We enjoyed an early dinner on Friday during Lent. The place was quiet at 5 pm, the food was delicious! We started with the cerviche, had fish tacos, and fish fillet with a wide choice of sauces. I choose the Nayarit which was FLAVORFUL. Mybeverage, the Henneychata (Hennessey and Horchata) was Yummy. Lots of other fantastic looking cocktails make me want to go back soon. A very nice surprise in the neighborhood. If you are a seafood lover; octopus, shrimp, etc Mexican style, this place has it. It's an understated place with such lovely service. So first and foremost, this is my go to seafood place for a weekly treat. Closest thing to actual marisco cuisine in the Chicago area; authentic enough ( scenic enough) to think you're at Ciudad in Mexico. My go to is the longistinos, Aqua chiles, and the prepped oysters. I'm going to go off on a tangent, and say the Sauces/ sauces MADE IN HOUSE are next level. The flavors you can tell were crafted intricately to complement each dish that is applied to. On another note I'm not sure about the previous review being the lady I seen borderline extorting a family owned and operated business basically critiquing it before she had stepped foot inside, like making her mind up to slander the place , and pay as little as possible for her miserable existence. I'll continue to enjoy the weekly treat here ( saves me a trip to Mexico), and did I mention THEY CATER. Loved it so much I made sure my shop indulged like how I did. My closing statements are as stated. Anyone can lay out a recipe, and call it a meal; what they have here taste like they cut a piece of their home county and built it here. For that I'll always be grateful to be a customer. 10/10 read more

First time coming to this restaurant. Happy Hr. until 7 on a Mon that's great! The food is excellent!!! We ordered Empanadas and a appetizer along with Camarones Monia. WOW homemade Empanadas!! Delicious!! The Ceviche was great!! The environment had good energy. The people working there were very nice. I really support our family owned businesses. You can smell the desperation when you walk in the door. The salsa & ceviche they give you were not good, the salsa had a weird after taste. The margarita came out of a dispenser, it was sweet and gross. I ordered enchiladas and they were cold and had very little sauce. I asked for extra sauce, they charged $4 without informing me. Absolutely awful and will tell everyone I know not to come. We waited over 20 minutes between each plate. Complained to the manager and didn't get any response except for "we'll do better next time". We will never come back. Food was cold and the meat was tough. The fajitas didn't have any meat but all vegetables. The shrimp cocktail was extremely sweet and overall good. Our server was nice but she also dropped one of our waters all over our guest. Not worth the price for the food or experience. If I could give it 0 stars I would.
