Waited tables is a dying art but this establishment gives me hope for the culture of elevated dining. Staff knows the menus, are courteous, and are one of the defining marks of the restaurant ambiance. The sportsball TVs can be a bit annoying at time, especially when trying to have a pleasant evening with the kiddos (there is no winning their attention vs the screens) and do more to break the "dressed down" atmosphere by inserting a bit more "sports bar" than needed. At least they keep it at the bar most nights. One of our favorite date night spots in Arlington Heights!

The evening began with the sort of optimism that has historically led men into bankruptcy, war, and…read moresecond marriages. The hostess appeared wearing a blue-and-white striped sweater hanging off one shoulder like she'd stepped out of an Italian perfume commercial. Around her neck was one of those little cornicello pepper necklaces, dangling just enough to suggest fate had finally decided to throw me a bone. Blue eyes. Not "blue." The kind of blue sailors used to abandon families over. She laughed at one of my jokes. That was all the encouragement my diseased brain required. I immediately conducted a full tactical assessment of the restaurant. The P.O.A. Index... ...was approaching DEFCON 1. Every direction I looked was another devastatingly attractive waitress carrying Aperol Spritzes with effortless confidence. It was like wandering into a government-funded supermodel relocation program. Then... A shadow fell across the table. A man. Our waiter was a man. Christ Almighty. The emotional whiplash nearly snapped my neck. It's like going to the zoo hoping to see lions and discovering the enclosure has been replaced with an accountant named Kevin. There are beautiful women everywhere, and somehow I'm discussing pasta recommendations with a guy who probably knows three different olive oils by taste. Cruel. Absolutely cruel. To his credit, the b@5tard was outstanding. Friendly. Fast. Knew the menu inside and out. Kept the drinks full. Never interrupted. The s.o.b. gave me absolutely nothing to complain about, which only deepened my resentment. The food, meanwhile, was infuriatingly good. The pizzas arrived looking like they'd been blessed by an Italian grandmother carrying unresolved anger from 1947. Thin crust. Fresh mozzarella. Just enough char to remind you that ovens are supposed to flirt with fire, not electricity. The pasta had that unmistakable handmade texture that makes Olive Garden feel like a felony. The cocktails disappeared with alarming speed. By my third Negroni, I was convinced I could hear Dean Martin narrating my life. Walking out, I glanced back toward the hostess one last time. She smiled. For approximately three seconds I considered abandoning my entire life to become a part-time sommelier with absolutely no qualifications. Then reality returned. The male waiter handed me the check. Four stars. The food was phenomenal. The cocktails were dangerous. The hostess should be classified as an Italian national treasure. And our waiter deserves a raise... despite committing the unforgivable crime of existing between me and the waitresses.

This casual yet elevated bar offers delicious drinks and food. I did not have any alcohol but from what I was told the drinks were strong and tasty. The food hit the spot for me. We were provided with a TON of food, to the point where to go boxes were put out since there was plenty to bring home. My favorites were the Buffalo Mac n cheese, cheese curds, and chicken tenders. They also had veggie options which I appreciated since this was a carb heavy event. For dessert there were cookies which was the perfect way to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth.

Unfortunately, not having been in person, there is not much that we can say about the ambiance or staff, though they do accommodate substitutions on takeout, which is an indicator of good service.

Their food menu is basic American and has items like burgers, chicken wings, fried fish with fries, BLT sandwhiches, etc and THE ONLY German food option was.. the bratwurst hot dog. The sausage was fine, served with piping hot home made fries that I liked a lot, and a small cup of hot sauerkraut that was very good too. The beer menu was much better in that respect and offered a handful of German options, a few very exotic ones but majority of it was all American. I had the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei (DAB) Original and enjoyed every drop of it. Totally recommend. Tuesday at 1AM, surprisingly the crowd started to pick up the number of people and it was getting LOUD. I did not expect that. There were 3 tables inside but most people were hanging by the bar. The tavern is a very local hangout.

We were handed very large menus with lots of photos of food BUT NO PRICES. There was a decal on the table to view the menu virtually, but when we tried it, we got a message that the link was disabled due to "hacking," which the waitress didn't seem aware of or interested in. We continued to ask for pricing, and the waitress brought out a takeout brochure. We ordered our meals based on that pricing. The food was just okay: not very tasty. We ordered the ""Cielo Mar Y Terra," basically beef/chicken/shrimp "fajitas." The dishes had the stated ingredients but were not very tasty. Although the price on the brochure we were given listed the dish for $20.99, we were charged $24.99 each in the bill. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress at the cash register, she brought out the manager. The manager was very snotty, and told us we had to pay $24.99 because we had shrimp in our entrees, even though the shrimp were included in the photo of "Cielo Mar Y Terra" listed at $20.99 in the brochure. The manager refused to adjust the price. We told her we would not be back. Based on our experience, we recommend you avoid dining here.

The cod was tasty and came with mixed veggies, coleslaw and a choice of fries, tater tots or red potatoes. I chose the potatoes and really enjoyed them. We arrived at 4:30 and snagged the last table in the very small dining area. The bar was pretty full, too. As we ate, a line began to form at the door for people waiting for tables. We probably would have stayed longer and eaten a little more fish if not for the number of people standing basically right behind us waiting to eat. All-you-can-eat is a great offer, but with only a handful of tables inside, it's probably not the best business strategy. And honestly, the plate had a good amount of food on it, so we didn't *need* more anyway. Kilcoyne's is tiny and has a better menu than I'd expect for what seems like a dive bar. I'd try the fish fry again, or maybe something else from the menu. However, I would not be willing to stand in the crowded doorway waiting for a table.
