Cafe Mistiko has good food at reasonable prices. I ate there once several years ago and enjoyed it, but for some reason, never returned until now. My friend suggested lunch there Nov. 3 because she had a coupon. I had the chicken avocado sandwich with a side of garlic potato salad. Both were delicious, and the potato salad serving was enormous -- enough to share and I still brought some home. My friend enjoyed the salmon sandwich, but preferred my garlic potato salad to her Greek potatoes (instead of roasted, they were actually homemade potato chips with some feta on top). The atmosphere is interesting -- the restaurant area is fairly nice, but our table was in an open area near the bar, so our conversation was frequently punctuated by shouts from patrons watching the Bears game from the bar. There is also decent game area, but no one was in it. So, there's really something for everyone there, but it's all in one big room. Our server was pleasant. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and are likely to return. read more

An alright place to enjoy a Greek meal in the suburbs. As people have noted, this restaurant is a bit of everything as it includes a bar, outdoor seating, video gaming, and lounge. For me, it's a bit confusing since this is really all housed in one large room -- making it an interesting mashup of experiences. The prices are fair, not that cheap but also not that expensive for options that include quite a bit of grilled meat. Service was fairly sparse, often taking long times for the waitress to return to the table and ask about water or additional needs. The food was alright -- somewhat tasty and good portion size, but also not memorable compared to other Greek restaurants nearby, even against fast-casual options. Food temperature could have been a bit better and execution on textures and presentation could have been better. Here are my thoughts on the different items i tried: Fried calamari: Nice large slice of calamari. Batter could have been a bit more crisp and the calamari was a bit too soft. The giardiniera flavor overpowers everything else in the dish. Clam chowder soup: Fairly creamy, but otherwise lacking in flavor. There definitely could be a lot more clam, potatoes, onion, and celery to make the broth much more flavorful. Lamb and pork souvlaki pitas: The meat is grilled nicely and seasoned well. Portion size is pretty good in these pitas where you will definitely not leave hungry. Probably the best items I tried. American burger: Nice presentation, but the beef wasn't really juicy and I didn't really get a char flavor out of it. Lamb burger: Lots of seasoning on the patty, but also not very juicy. Chicken pesto pasta: This was overall really dry, despite the pesto sauce and olive oil.. and the chicken wasn't juicy at all. The noodles were stuck together (even without cheese) which made it difficult to eat. Fries: Semi-soft, semi crisp, wasn't bad but also wasn't great. Potato salad: Quite creamy, but really lacked in flavor. The potatoes were also cut a bit too big where it wasn't quite bite sized. Overall, it's an alright place if you need to lounge around and meet up with others. But not my first choice when it comes to food. read more

My advice is never to walk into this place. They get you on the bill because they think you are drunk. Mind you I only had one drink. The owner is very disrespectful and rude. He fought us about the bill and charged us over $500 for a few people. When we explain to him that the waitress made a mistake and didn't split the bill he was arrogant and didn't care. He looked away, and would not even look at me in the eyes or help. He was extremely disrespectful and I see that now in prior review from other people who have encountered the same experiences with him. My advice is not to walk into this place or waste your time. Went here twice. Rude bartender. I ordered a burger and thought it was suspicious when she didn't ask me for a temperature for the burger. She said to me "oh we don't ask for temps because we're not a burger restaurant" I'm like "you have five different burgers on your menu, and it's like a eighth of the items on here. Cafe Mistiko fits its name as it really had me guessing what to expect. Would it be a bar, a cozy cafe with an outdoor patio, or a Greek diner? It turned out to be a bit of all of the above. Although we did not try any drinks ourselves, there was already a pretty big crowd at the bar, by the time we got here at around 3 p.m. It has a nice outdoor patio which would be great to use during warm weather. They serve Greek cuisine. Everything we tried tasted delicious. My favorite dish was their salmon sandwich with a side of Greek potatoes. The sandwich had an interesting combination of spices and included home made pesto sauce. The owner Spiro a ( a guy with a beard and pony tail ) came up to our table and was utterly rude. Here is a quick brake down: closer to shutdown of the place, at this point we been at cafe for over couple hours got dinner and drinks, so we already spend few hundred dollars. So, one of our friends , she got a massive headache, as were relaxing and talking on the couch she laid back and closed her eyes for a second. I remind you the lounging couch is in the the dark corner, almost no one at cafe and 30 min to closing time. The owner I will keep calling him the guy with a beard and pony tail, came up to us and poked her and proceeded to say in a very rude matter " hey YOU! get up ! no sleeping!!" She was simply sitting down and simply rolled her head back for a sec! We were all dressed up very nicely , so far from looking like bums lol. So, I stepped in and explain to the owner that she simply was resting her head and that she had a headache. The owner took his attention to me and said I don't need your kind here! Kind? Then proceeded to sit next to me and said " I don't need you here, you're nobody?!? I says " where is this coming from ?" I said you could've done things differently and simply came up to her and being nice and asked her if she's " OK" and this is NO WAY to you talk to your clients of many years that were here from beginning when you open the place!!" Matter effect to anyone period! Then the owner asked . What country are you from " what did I do for a living?" I replied " what difference does it make?!?" " but since you asked .. someone that can afford to wear a expensive Rolex on my hand and a $1,200 jacket!!!" . Man, this guy has ignorance level 10! I told him I'm not sure what point he's trying to drive across but he is drunk and this kind of attitude is absolutely rude and uncalled for. I was trying to " educate" him. The only Mystical thing about this place is how it has four stars on Yelp. In just two visits I've already wasted an hour of my life waiting around in this place -so I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this review. I should probably add that waiting for a check is one of my pet peeves. From the reviews here I think perhaps they have vastly different people in the kitchen at lunchtime and at dinnertime. After my first visit, I was fully prepared to let my second Groupon expire and eat the $10.00 cost, just so that I didn't have to go back. On the first visit we experienced frighteningly poor service as described by other reviewers here - no smiles and slow service, poor food, the burger was the most overcooked meteorite I've ever been served - seriously - a half inch of melted cheese couldn't save it. On top of all that, we waited at least 20 minutes for the check, and NOBODY was there. On the inevitable second visit, things started out well and I was actually encouraged as we sat down. We were greeted by 2 (two) smiling people immediately upon entering, one of whom could have been an owner - amazing! Our order was taken promptly and things were looking up. There were small groups at a couple other tables talking in russian. I think I detected a flash of disappointment across the server's face as we ordered plain old water, and things went down from there. After our meal came the server seemed to remember that we had ordered an appetizer, and went back to place that order with the kitchen. I wasn't sure what was on my pasta as I couldn't SEE it, and I'm not joking (other people have noted the dim/lack of lighting) and both the pasta and my girlfriend's sandwich were completely lacking salt - some would say an essential spice in cooking. That would be easily remedied - if any of the tables had salt shakers (no pepper either). When we finished eating, our plates were taken and we sat for literally 35 minutes, watching our flitty waitress dash around serving the other 3 (THREE) tables, before I finally had to ask for a check. 15 mind-numbing techno beat minutes later I had something to sign and could finally escape this "pirate ship lost in the arabian desert." Maybe the eastern european crowd really is thrilled by bland food and complete neglect at dining establishments, but unfortunately for Cafe Mistiko and myself, I'm not one of them. With a little luck, the complete lack of business is a sign that they won't be around that long and something good will have a chance to open in their place. This place is horrible! You first walk in and you are in total darkness, you'd need to get a flashlight out to read the menu. But first you are greeted, or I should write not greeted, by some unfriendly worker. I've been here twice, I don't know why I gave it a second try but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. When we sat down the waitress was nice until we just ordered water, I'm not a drinker and I like water, but apparently the waitress doesn't like it when you order water and she then had a bad mood the rest of the time we were there. We ordered food, we had to wait a long time for our food even though there were only 2 other tables occupied in the place. The food was gross, very very bland & dry. The waitress never checked on us and we waited 30 min for a bill staring at our plates that they never picked up or our empty water glasses as they never gave us more water. When the place is dead it shouldn't take this long to eat here, i spent 2 hours of my life wasted here in the dark. So I guess people just come here to drink (according the the reviews), that's fine...just don't advertise you have food! It's gross and it wasted my time and money being there. He first asked us what do we do for a living then said we're dumb cause that's we're we work. Then I got so offended because he asked if I was gay and I do things with guys. Cafe Mistiko is an unfortunate disappointment. Some places are just bad, but this place has such tremendous potential and is bad. It's a place that I wish were better, since I would love to love this place. I've gone a few times, walking in with high hopes, followed by consistly bad everything. It has the exciting appearance of a unique place with exotic food and a warm atmosphere. Reality is it's a dump. Menu is limited, and food is between bland and discusting. I no longer eat anything here. As far as going to watch a sports game, the TVs are small and not well placed. They do have one projection TV, but the picture is grainy and light. Not the place to go for a game. Service is another consistent disappointment. The heavy-set manager or owner with the short hair is cold with no concept of customer service. The waitresses aren't any better. Service is poor, and waitresses have an attitude. Noone smiles, waitresses run up to take your drink/food order and that's it. The crowd is an unusual mix of foreign-speaking older men who sit outside and smoke up the outdoor seating area. If you are a non-smoker, on a bad day, you choke just getting to the front door. Place would be helped by new management and a complete overhaul. It's a wasteful shame, this place could be very cool. read more

My friends and I stopped by for a few drinks on a Tuesday night. We've been here a few times and each time we go, I am not blown away by this seemingly innocent corner establishment. From outside, it looks like a fancy euro-style attraction that seems to mistify non-frequent visitors. However, once you step inside, something seems to be missing. The inside decor looks like a pirate ship that got lost in the arabian desert. Theres big doors, bars, and red curtains that seem to try too hard to spruce up a boring interior. the furniture is simple, yet the inside is spacious. Its labeled a sports bar, but i find it difficult to watch a game on their tiny 17-inch monitors. Aside from their lacking interior design sense, the food wasnt anything spectacular either. I ordered the Chicken pepporonita(spelling unsure) panini. Chicken was dry, ceasar salad was lacking taste, but the the bread was crispy. I had a mug of the Spaten. Beer made the meal. In conlusion, dont come here for the food or the sports. If you want to chill with your friends on a tuesday night over beer and $4 patron shots on a tuesday night, check it out. I've been going to Cafe Mistiko since it opened. It's a bit of an odd place. The menu- I haven't had a horrible meal there. I'd put their version of a Philly beef sandwich up against any, The lamb chops are beyond tasty, The deli platter is awesome with a nice mix of cheeses and meats with oil and herbs and fresh bread. The dipping platter with 4 dips, hummus, Baba Ghanoush, tahini, and something else...served with toasted bread. The crepes are a wonderful end to any meal although the portions for the crepe are made to be shared. The decor is perky, over sized couches and love seats for lounging and plenty of tables. In good weather there is outdoor seating. The bar is large but usually empty except for the owner and staff tend to lounge there. I never thought of Mistiko as a "sports bar" although the tiny TV's are always on with some sporting event. I find it to be more of a pool-hall. They have several pool tables. If you like backgammon you can ask for a game and play as long as you like. I would expect this place to be packed most weekends but it never is. I've gone at all times of the day and at best it's 1/4 filled, if that. This would be a perfect place to hang out on the weekends if they had live music. They have a techno sound track playing which can drive one to leave sooner than later. As I mentioned, I bet I'm one of their longest consistent customer and they barely acknowledge that I've bee there before, although there is 1 waitress that seems to recognize me. I go there primarily for the modestly priced food and drink; I always know I'll be served quickly because it's never busy. I would recommend Cafe Mistiko but don't expect a warm greeting or any smiles. If you're looking for a friendly greeting from the owner or staff you'll never get it. The place seems to peg itself as being Eastern European, and tends to draw that crowd, but their menu boasts Grecian style food. They serve paninis (Yum), crepes, Grecian salads, Souvlaki, Loukaniko, Greek yogurt and more. Nice seating, pool tables and a bar. I've had their paninis a few times and they make a mean over-priced smoothie. I've been here on a whim to meet some friends at night. It had a nice lounge-feel to it.
