Wanted to love Westo because the ambiance and cocktails were beautiful, but unfortunately the food and service just did not match the concept. We ordered the octopus, patatas bravas, and the steak meal for two. The octopus was extremely overcooked and chewy, and the steak platter itself just felt underwhelming overall. Also... how does a Mexican steakhouse not provide tortillas with a steak platter? That honestly shocked me. The biggest confusion of the night was the patatas bravas situation. Our waitress forgot the dish entirely, then later brought over mashed potatoes and said they were "on the house." I was genuinely confused because I thought maybe this was their version of patatas bravas due to the seasoning on top. When I asked about it, she realized she accidentally brought mashed potatoes instead of the actual dish. She apologized and eventually brought the real patatas bravas, but even those tasted oddly sweet and missed the mark for us. To their credit, the staff did try to make up for it with complimentary shots, and the cocktails were honestly the best part of the experience. The space itself is gorgeous and has a very upscale vibe, but the food lacked cohesion and flavor for the price point. Sadly, not somewhere I'd personally return to. read more

Our first time in the area and to Westsos. We were warmly greeted and seated promptly for our 5p reservation. Sofia was absolutely lovely and the team service well done. We were not at all rushed and took the opportunity to try the interesting guacamole with ribeye chicharrons (kind of like beef jerky pieces) with a deliciously fresh watermelon cocktail while reading the menu and further deciding. The garnish of mango habanero caviar was disappointing in flavor and quantity. No heat or fruit flavor. Fresh blue chips were great but sparse ; fortunately, the table chips and salsa were equally good ( again, no heat) We proceeded to order the pulpo and 16 oz ribeye (which came with patatas bravas (so good !) and small house salad). Assured that chef was excellent at cooking to temperature and that was the case. We shared yet still didn't have to for dessert so plan accordingly if churros, cheesecake or très lèches cake are your things! I especially appreciated being asked if items could be cleared from the table rather than just being grabbed! Decor is black (which extends to the restrooms which were comfortable, clean, warm with average toilet paper and paper towels and coat /purse hooks in the stalls). But I did feel a kind of dungeon-y vibe. Also kind of 1970's which is not bad, just dated. While maybe not a destination spot, definitely worth a trip if you're in the area. read more

I struggled with this review because the meal was good but the prices were quite excessive and the atmosphere that night was cold and dark instead of warm and romantic. We came on a freezing Sunday night out expecting a fine dining experience with pleasant background music or an engaging band based on other reviews. Instead, when we arrived the place was dead and the temperature in the dining room was surprisingly cold and drafty; more like a goth teenager's bedroom than the trendy place their website promotes. My wife kept her coat on for dinner. I got a glass of house red wine which was surprisingly good and she had a refreshing sangria. We shared a remolacha (beet salad) and the carne asada para dos; both tasty but not particularly generous portions. That's all and the bill came to $140 after tax and tip. Service was fine and the waitress thoughtfully had a manager move the baby banging on the glasses at the table next to us (an employee's kid hanging out with Mom for the evening). What could have ruined a somewhat cozy evening was prevented. I'd love to come back to experience their unique drink menu and more substantial entrees, but not for the prices they charge on a night that's like a visit to Elvira's movie macabre instead of the Waldorf Astoria. read more

Let's start with the good. I loved the ambience of the place. Low light perfect date night spot. Our host was friendly and seated us right away. My wife order the Piedra. I couldn't figure out why it was almost twice the price of the other cocktails, but then it came out and the presentation was pretty awesome. Id recommend ordering one if you like mesca and are looking for a cool table tricks. I ordered a whiskey on the rocks and for the price they charge it was a pretty small pour. When our waitress came back she explained that they had a mix up with their delivery, and instead of filet they were offering Waygu for the same price, so I went with that. My wife went with the Pescado à la Talla. Both dishes came out and were plated beautifully. My wife enjoyed the fish. I was a little disappointed in the waygu. It was really tough. Not buttery and savory like waygu I've had in the past. I was rather disappointed. If you're looking for trendy date spot this may be worth checking out. Edison Park's hottest new restaurant just dropped this past May! The interior is sleek & sexy in black & gold. It's a very moody vibe inside & can be great for a date night or a night out with friends. If you go with a group you can sample more of the menu as a lot of their steaks are shareable. I visited 2 times when I was back in town in August. First I stopped by for cocktails & apps sitting at the bar, but enjoyed my experience so much that I returned later in the trip with a larger group of friends to experience the more of the menu. This restaurant took over the old Zia's Trattoria corner spot. A much welcomed edition since the spot was sitting vacant for a while, and this brings a new elevated concept to the area. I enjoyed both my experiences here & love the ambiance & creative food presentation. This restaurant is an elevated Mexican steakhouse so it's different from the more traditional Mexican spots found in Chicagoland. My favorite appetizers were the Pulpo, beef carpaccio, and elote. All the cocktails I tried were fantastic, but my favorites were the remolache & pisco sour Paloma. Weso also had excellent espresso martinis. As a group of 6 we shared the arrachera and carne asada para 2 as well as added on papas bravas & a mashed potato side dish. There was plenty of food just ordering those two entrees for the group. I loved the arrachera & patatas bravas. The skirt steak was perfectly seasoned & very flavorful. The only things I didn't really like were the mashed potato appetizer, and I thought the guacamole could've been seasoned more. Honestly 2 very small things in the grand scheme of an excellent meal. For dessert we ordered the Dulce de leche cheesecake & a Dulce de leche sandwich cookie. The cheesecake was definitely the table favorite. As we were celebrating a birthday we also received a complimentary slice of ube flan. The flan was fantastic & I think they should definitely add that to their menu. Service was top notch. The owner was even present & working the bar on my first visit. It was great speaking to him, and hearing about his dream & goals for the restaurant. Overall our experience here was excellent & I will definitely return to try their brunch menu as well as more of their dinner offerings. Had brunch here on Mother's Day and the service was the absolutely top notch. We had a reservation and was immediately seated. Our server was polite, respectful and knowledgeable without being pushy, and attentive to every detail . We had the bottomless mimosa and if we wanted to we could have switched between bloody mary's and mimosa. We stayed with the mimosa and our glass was never empty. We shared empanadas and I also ordered empanadas as my entree. We tried all the varieties and they were all good. The dough was fried to perfection. I liked the ham and cheese the best. My husband and son had the Chilaquiles. The tortillas were cooked in a salsa verde that was had a zest to it, but was not overpowering. It was topped with eggs and steak. The portion was generous and there were left overs. The highlight was the entertainment., a mariachi band .Their outfits were traditional and colorful and their songs were entertaining. Weso was our top choice for a double date night because of the proximity to the train and the amazing photos of the wagyu and elote ribs! I made a reservation to celebrate a birthday and we had a blast! They have a prefixed menu with lots of yummy options and one of my guests thought it was the best chile relleno she'd ever had. The food and drinks were great and the service was exceptional. We were checked on and our birthday guest loved the cheesecake which we all shared. There was plenty of paid street parking. Belated review for Valentine's day. The food and portion sizes were respectable but the service and the decor was where this place really fell flat. It looked like they just put a layer of black paint on every surface and thought they could charge upscale prices. Our table was wobbly and covered with a cheap vinyl table cloth. It looked like it was taken straight out of the package as it still had creases. The flowers and candles were fake (you can see the dollar store rose petals in my picture). It very sweet that they offered a free Valentine's day dessert but it was grape jello with what I can only assume to be strawberry Yoplait yogurt. Again - good intentions but really poor execution. HAPPY HOUR REVIEW! I had heard about Weso through social media as a new, all black interior mexican steakhouse. The inside was nicely designed and indeed all black from furniture, walls and ceiling painted, light fixtures, down to napkins, plates, bowls also all being black. I come with a group of (4) for Friday Happy Hour (4-6pm) and we were immediately greeted by our kind server. She explained the happy hour menu, highlights of the food and drink offerings, and answered any questions we had. Happy Hour consists of all cocktails 50% off excluding the "Las Tablas" drinks. Additionally, there were beer selections for $3 and wine selections for $8. For food, they had (4) shareable sized offerings at $10 each. Pretty good value from my perspective! We started with a round of drinks and all tried each others. I ordered the Pisco Sour Paloma. It was fruity and not overly tart but the frothy egg white did have a scent that was off-putting to some. The Tamarinda has subtle spice and heat paired with a bright note to balance it out. The Remolacha was my favorite! The beet juice was not overpowering so that the mezcal could shine appropriately. The house specialty is the Weso Margarita which is known for being black in color. It came out being slightly more grey/silver and was a bit tart for my liking. We later also tried the Sabes A Sandia which was strongly watermelon and sweet tasting. For food, we tried 3/4 of the happy hour appetizers. The Guacamole was delicious and we added the Chicharron De Ribeye piece to add some salty crunch flavor. The chips were house made but slightly too crispy in a way. The app came with not enough chips so we did ask for more which our server nicely accommodated. Next was the Costillas De Elotes. These were corn ribs paired with a delicious sauce on the bottom! I believe about (6) corn ribs came with the plate in total. Last was the Steak Sopes. I did not personally try these but the group mentioned it being the best food dish we got. The appeared to be a good mix of fresh tortilla, meat, and toppings. Overall, Weso was a great experience! The Happy Hour showed great value, customer service was excellent and I will certainly be coming back myself as well as recommending to others! read more

YES YES YES!!! Weso is new to the Edison Park area and check marks everything I LOVE in a spot for drankz and foodz. I was here for a Friday double date during happy hour and we did not make a reservation. Thankfully we got there as soon as happy hour started and were seated right away. Weso's happy hour specials consist of deals on drinks and food. HECK YES!! This is an all black themed restaurant and it is gorgeous. It gives off a sophisticated yet ready to have a great time atmosphere. All the of the staff members were extremely kind, friendly and gave off positive energy with great smiles. I wish I would have gotten our servers name, she was so nice and the perfect amount of attentive. I will say - water service was a bit over the top, it felt like everytime someone took a sip their water was replenished. It was fine and appreciated! Just not necessary. For drinks we pretty much tried all of the cocktails deals offered during their happy hour. My favorites were the Wes Margarita, Remolacha and La Tamarinda. All are heavy on the alcohol (or maybe I didn't eat enough prior to this lol), delicious and crafted beautifully. We also tried 3 out of the 4 food deals offered - Elotes, Steak Sopes and Chips n Guac. ALL items were delicious. It's hard to pick which is my favorite between the Elotes and steak Sopes. I recently moved to the neighborhood, and had always gone to Americano's nearby for dinner. They closed at 9, so I saw that there was a Mexican steakhouse called "Wetso" right there. I checked their hours on their website, and they closed at 10. I walked in 17 degree weather and arrived at 9:15pm. The doors were open, the TV's were on, and there was in person sitting at the end of the bar eating his food. He turns and looks at me, and be both just stare at each other. I thought he was the customer. He was the employee. I asked him if they're open and he firmly said, "no." I asked him that if I could get a Michelda, and I would be on my way, and he said that he had already done last call. I don't know when he decided to do "last call," but I've never been to a restaurant that does last call 45 minutes before closing time, that also announces that they are closed for the night, even though the hours on both Yelp and their official website. I asked if he was the manager or the owner and he said that he was. He clearly didn't want my business, nor wanted to give me service. He just wanted to enjoy his meal while watching TV. I gave him some advice and told him to lock the does behind me, so no one would walk in and get the impression that they were open. That was probably one of the worst interactions I've ever had with a member of the service industry. Luckily, Tavern on the Point was open, and I had a much better experience there. I don't care how they portray themselves on their website, because that man was rude and unprofessional. I'll never ever bother to try that place, I'll still to Americano's. read more

I found this place through Yelp and invited my sister to grab happy hour there. It was amazing g. Margaritas... A+. Not that overly sweet crap mix you find in other places. You must order the guacamole with the fried meat pieces, it adds a crunchy salty addition to guacamole that I never knew I always wanted. Steak sope was delish as were fish tacos. Tonight was my first time here. We were greeted by our waiter, Octavio (spelling?) right away. He was super friendly and helpful. We each stared with a drink, I got a sangria and my husband had a red wine. My sangria was perfect! So perfect, I had 2- which I don't often do We had the guac as an appetizer. It was really good. The tortilla chips were a bit different, but good. The guac came out with 6 tortilla chips, however our waiter brought us out a plate with more, even before we asked, so we could finish the guac! They also brought out bread which was ok. I'm not a huge bread fan so it takes a lot to impress me. I ordered the arrachera which was aaaaaammmmmazing! It came with a house salad which I thought was yummy. My husband ordered a ribeye which was good. I just preferred my arrachera. Our waiter recommended some kind of potato. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to. Service was outstanding, the food was mouth watering, and the prices were unbeatable. We started off the meal with the queso fundido with chorizo. It came with four tortillas that tasted homemade. To say it was delicious would be an understatement. The pull on the cheese would rival any seen on TikTok. The chorizo added a salty, spicy kick to the cheese. For our entree, we ordered the carne asada para 2. The meal, which easily fed 2 people, came with grilled short ribs, flank steak, chorizo, grill onion, corn, and 2 chilis. Each piece of meat was better than the last. Additionally, the entree came with two heaping salads that were perfectly dressed. We had seen pictures of the meal online, but it was even more tantalizing in person. We also ordered the papas bravas as a side. Topped with pickled red onions, the mountain of perfectly seasoned and sauced potatoes was so good that I could have eaten just that. Unfortunately, there was no room for dessert, but I'll be sure to try it the next time we go. Westso's address is Chicago, but it's only 5 minutes from Rosemont and 20 minutes from Old Orchard mall. The service was amazing. Very attentive, zero issues. Food was incredible. Short wait too! I had the pescado la talla, best fish I ever ate. The music is good; not too loud, but good atmosphere. Could hear conversations easily over the din and I'm half deaf. It's dim enough to feel fancy, good for a family event or romantic outing, but I had no trouble reading the menu or anything like that.
