Lomo Saltado
Celeste B.

My niece had her christening reception here and it was fabulous! They made custom drink menus for the event and ended up moving our party from the patio to inside due to the heat. We got so much food and it was all delicious! We started out with some yucca fries to snack on and I loved the green salsa that came with it. Then we got some flautas, rice and beans and lomo saltado. All were very excellent! The service was great and they were on top of things. I would definitely come back again and try other items from their seasonal menu!

Shrimp & Grits

It was our first time at Libertad for brunch, and we wanted to order everything. We enjoyed the steak and eggs along with the shrimp and grits. Everything was very well put together, from the presentation to the balance of each ingredient. Their hot sauce is a must. We also enjoyed the coffee. We will definitely go back to try other dishes.

Cute restaurant in the Skokie area. There was free street parking in the front so that was a plus. Pretty empty when we went for lunch on Sunday (didn't really need a reservation, but just in case). Our group ordered a variety of food and they were all pretty good. The drink menu was a bit pricey for the size. The food didn't take a long time. There is an indoor area and then an enclosed outdoor patio which was great, because even though it was a bit chilly, we were not affected by the wind. Would come and eat the food again. Maybe come try out the dinner menu next!

Fresas and G&T. Perfect summer drinks.

Libertad surprised me in the best way! Service was super sweet. I really liked the head of house a lot. She was so personable and gave her opinion on dishes, which I always appreciate. The space is simple and that perfect blend of lightness/airiness while still being intimate. They suggest 3-4 plates between two people, and we went with 3 and had plenty of leftovers. Queso de cabra was fantastic. Flautas were AMAZING. Chuleta, and actually especially the sweet potato purée, was cooked to perfection. All dishes were well balanced. Drinks were STRONG. I got the fresas one and my husband got the G&T, and both were the perfect summer drinks. I'm just so happy with our experience there! It was so perfect. We would return.

Libertad is a gem for its location in Skokie. Latin American small plates delight the senses with imaginative flavors and visuals. We enjoyed the carne asada (and especially the sauce!), the grilled octopus (pulpo), the flautas, and many more dishes. Drinks were well-balanced and kept us coming back for more. Service was attentive, gregarious, and kind.

Breakfast Burrito.

Been here a couple of times over the years but just writing a review now! We've gone during the summer and they have a nice little patio area in the back. Not a huge amount of space but it's well-covered so everything is shaded and comfortable. Better to use if you have a smaller party, probably no more than 4 people. We once went with a party of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids) and it was a little tricky, but the staff was very accommodating and made it work for us. We typically went for their brunch/lunch menu and I usually get their Breakfast Burrito. Very substantial and filling with great flavor! My wife has gotten the chilaqueles and she also enjoyed it. We haven't tried their brunch cocktails yet but their pineapple agua fresca was good (though too sweet for my wife). I'm getting hungry just writing this review so we'll be making our way back again soon!

Yummy yummy in our tummies! This cozy and upscale-ish establishment offers 40-45 seats for indoor dining and also offers outdoor heated dining (back of restaurant). The atmosphere is minimalistic. Wood tables, seats and a long shared bench against the wall. It's a little cramped which can make it hard to hear conversations with people you're with, but for introverts - this is a perfect spot lol. There is also a bar area that seats 5 guests. Their mezcal cocktails (la dragona and la guerra) are definitely top notch and delicious. Smokey, spicy with a hint of fruit and smoothness to it, they are VERY good and I highly recommend them. The food was okay - this is a pretty pricey place so I was expecting a bit more from the food. Still good! Just not 5 stars for me. My favorite was the pescado - full of unique flavors, refreshing and filling. My con of it was it's heavy on the butter/oil side. My fiancé and I also tried the pulpo and crane asada. I was impressed with the service - I only saw 1 waitstaff person and she was fairly quick with getting all the orders in. She timed our meal out very well, as soon as we were finished with a course another 1 was coming out. Plenty of other people bringing food to the tables, refilling waters, etc but only 1 server (Amy). She was really nice and had a smile on her face the entire time. Oh! We also got a fresh plate and fresh utensils for each course. That's a bonus in my book as this gives a clean and fresh palette.

We had excellent dining experience at Libertad. After telling our server, Jenny, which plates we were interested in she curated a perfect meal. The food was not only delicious but the presentation was amazing. The restaurant's kitchen is located in plain sight of the tables so that you can watch the plates being created.

And it's located in Old Orchard so perfect if you want to shop right after Decorated with Christmas lights draping from the ceiling Bar Siena offers a shirk dining experience. And I just have to mention that the service is outstanding and attentive. We decided to go with a plethora of dishes starting with their fried calamari to share. Perfectly tender with a light batter and served with both a house marinara and lemon aioli. Personally I LOVED the lemon aioli but the marinara not so much. I was just expecting more of a robust flavor from it. I chose my main from their 2 course lunch which is a pretty damn good deal. I chose the Baby Gem Salad and their Siena Smashburger and I knew I made a wise decision. The Gem Salad was actually the perfect lunch size and the burger...whoa. I know my burgers and this one was a good smash burger. It wasn't 'glammed' up like some burgers which I appreciated. Just the right amount of sauce and simple condiments. Next menu item...the Prosciutto and Fig Pizza. Ok today I learned that Bar Siena has major Neapolitan pizza game. The marriage of flavors drive me crazy. The difference maker on this pizza was the fact that they used real figs. Not fig preserve or fig jam but the real deal. Everything about this pizza was a home run. The crust, the toppings and even the arugula! I'm not a fan of arugula as I find it to be a little too pungent but I don't know what they did but this was so smooth and that pungent flavor was absent. Man just writing about that pizza and burger makes me excited to eat them again. Glad I have leftovers lol. Yeah def going back whenever I can!

While the bar was shorthanded at the time, the barman on duty did his very best as a one-man show. Can't fault them too much, someone calls out sick last minute, and that's that. For appetizers, we got the sesame rolls, and they were super soft and fresh. I also tried bacon wrapped dates for the first time (so I have nothing to compare these to), and they were alright but I thought the cheese was sort of overpowering. For food, I got the brick chicken and it came with a side of crispy cottage potatoes. The chicken with the garlic thyme jus went well together, and the potatoes were so crispy and delicious. The service was one of the worst, bizarre experiences I've had a restaurant. When we first sat down we had empty glasses of water, which my husband claims is always the first sign that a restaurant isn't on it's game. We asked the waiter for water giving them a chance to redeem themselves, but had to ask again, again and again. Our waiter himself did seem to be off his game. We placed our order for drinks and had a in depth conversation with him where he promised my friend to make her a special drink that she'd love. 10 minutes later he returned and asked to take our drink order and didn't seem to have recollection of our previous conversation. It was a busy Saturday night, but still quite odd. Ordering food didn't go much better and of course we had to keep asking for water. We couldn't figure out why he didn't leave the pitcher. He did tell us that he was having a bad day (fair enough), but seemed very unsteady on his feet and we were concerned he may pass out. Towards the end of the meal someone (i assume the manager) stopped by at the end of our meal to tell us that our waiter had left due to a family emergency. We were introduced to a new very smiley and helpful server. We were a little surprised that the manager didn't offer to comp drinks, bring dessert on the house or anything else to make up which was clearly a subpar experience. However, we were mostly worried that our waiter possibly drove home in the state he was in so asked our new server to check on him later. As for the food it was fine. Apps: peekytoe crab toast (3 stars) and devils on horseback (4 stars) Entree: shared the duck tacos (3 stars) and chop't veggie with salmon (2 stars- bland) We skipped dessert, but the dessert menu did look tasty. I'd try again since i know it takes new restaurants a bit of time to get up to speed, but wasn't overly impressed in comparison to other Ballyhoo establishments.
